The Airbus A380 is NOT a novel idea; Boeing considered a double-decker 747 30 years ago when it first came out. Airbus is just taking Boeing’s concept and actually implementing it.
Without a doubt Boeing has backpedaled since 9/11. Three years ago they had the Sonic Cruiser on their drawing boards, then shortly after the attacks, they backed off on that concept and went with the 7E7. Personally I want to get from Point A to Point B faster, not packed in with 554 other passengers like freakin’ CATTLE! MOOOOOOOOOOO!
Oh, and I forgot to mention...the A380 is designed to fly ONLY between major hubs (O’Hare, LAX, JFK); Heathrow in London has to rebuild certain gates in order to accomodate the A380. The 7E7 can work from regional airports too (Sky Harbor, Cincinnati, JAX) and use existing gates.
So there IS a philosophical difference between Airbus and Boeing.
Reading further along in the article, after all the claims, I note that it hasn’t flown yet.
Let’s see what happens then and if the projected claims pan out.
Good luck to ‘em.
Hmm, still getting a file not found error on the “pictures here” link when it doesn’t send me to the comments page.
OOOPS! Try it now. Thanks for telling me.
That was a fast fix! It works very well after I figured out I should reload the page.
