  1. Good find, but I’m not sure about the comment regarding McNamara. He was wrong on many, many, many things, but whether expanding the Vietnam War was one of them is highly questionable. From a political standpoint? Perhaps. But remember that a few decades before, Ike and the normally-sound Matt Ridgeway canned any further aid to the French in Indochina after realizing that they would have to commit token forces that men like Westmoreland would have given their RIGHT ARM to be able to get away with, so that is hardly a solid stick for measuring it.

Still, I must say that they are right, and I know the type. But perhaps even WORSE are those who THINK they know something but really don’t. I’ve run across dozens of Economists who act like the entire world can ONLY operate by their beloved models, who ALWAYS seek to maximize their material gains, and thus get completely stumped when confronted by ideological, cultural, and military forces that don’t fit in, prime example: one of these deadweights actually saying how we should have opened trading with Castroite Cuba (a tragically common “suggestion” they make)… DURING THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS!!!!! THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND! These people are so cloistered in their little world that they forget that the world is far more complex and terrifying than the artificial constructs they believe they can break down and find the perfect answer to.

  2. I would guess that it was a PHD that thought that putting an expensive gadget, full of strange metals, that convert CO and unburnt fuel into CO2!! (I will also bet that a PHd was behing that scam too) and as a side effect you have to remove 2/3 of the te lead to keep the damn thing healthy, thus screwing the fuel economy.

  3. Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that the only reasons that Gates has a PhD and is employed at Havard is because he is black?  Can you say AA? I knew you could.
