  1. And good riddance.  If this is a “proud American,” then Quisling was a “proud Norwegian.”

    wink

  2. Sure, Turbin Durbin calls the US military, Nazis, and that is just fine.  But Liberals against the war on terrorism wanting mental illness medication at tax payer expense is a new low, go figure.

Hillary and company say that a Karl Rove’s , SORRY, isn’t enough.  The President has to say SORRY too.

President to Laura tonight:  Those Liberals say I should fire Karl Rove.

First Lady:  What does your mother say?

President:  Not yet.  Wait till we have 75 Republican Senators.

  3. I looked at the blog and comments, and I think neither the blogmaster nor his loyal dumbass commenters would understand the truth if it was staring them in the face.  Their blind hatred of Bush and all Conservatives is going to bite them in the ass again, as the American public is beginning to see through their tactics, and finally will see that it’s not the Conservatives that are “mean-spirited”, but the character-assassinating f***ing obstructionist liberals. cheese

  4. Mr. Daou,
Yes, New York was united after 9-11, and I have no doubt that New Yorkers who lost friends and family still hurt today, be they conservative or liberal.  I still feel sorry for their loss, and I still become very angry when I see the pictures from that day.

However it seems to me that once the public mourning was over, the last wreckage carted away, and the money doled out and in some cases fought over, the liberals in the public arena went straight back to their “Bush stole the election, lied etc., etc.” It also seems to me that many of the folks in Congress who voted for the war but didn’t vote for the war have bailed out along with their liberal supporters now that the going is tough and the reality that good people die in wars is sinking in.

As for “101st Fighting Keyboardists” - well, I’m way too old or I would have signed up; but my son flew a helicopter in Iraq; does that count?  And I’ve been shot at and missed about forty years ago, my father and four other family members likewise in WW2, both my grandfathers in WW1, a great-great grandfather in the American Civil War, a great-great-great grandfather in the War of 1812, my fourth and fifth great grandfathers in the American Revolution, and their forefathers in the Indian wars in Maryland and Virginia.  So maybe you have seen more blood and thunder than most, but maybe not.  There are a lot of veterans on these boards.

Rove was talking of liberal politicians who spew hate and sedition, not you as an individual; he spoke of policy, not personal behavior or feelings.  Can you honestly say that that the liberals in Congress have done anything, even one thing, to further the cause of the United States, support our troops in the field, or cooperate with the Bush administration in the pursuit and elimination of terrorists since their initial votes to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq?  Help me out, because I’m having a tough time recalling any.

And stop talking about feelings and talk about facts.  We’ll get more done that way.

  5. I made a few comments over there. Got verbally assualted by some dude named “HUGH” that informed me that I was a reactionary and need to return to my shed. Dunno why, the shed has all the comforts of home minus the old lady. Oh well.....send them to school .... and then they try to eat the teacher. (sigh)

  6. I had a look at the article and the comment thread. I intended to make some comments but the opportunity arose to set straight some of their “facts”. I feel better already. wink

  7. Skipper, I took your advice and put in my two cents.  Here’s the post.

Well Peter, I’m going to answer your challenge. No I don’t think Senator Durbin in his heart of hearts thinks I’m a Nazi. I think Senator Durbin in his heart of hearts thinks he can imply I’m a Nazi for the purpose of rousing the rabble against the President. I don’t think Senator Durbin wants us to lose the war in Iraq, he just wants to gain political capital on the sacrifices of my fellow soldiers, marines, sailors, airmen and coasties. So again, you’re right, his outrage is feigned and his argument is hyperbole. However, this does makes Senator Durbin a whore-and by whore, I mean someone who would sell out what he really believes for personal gain.

I don’t care what Senator Durbin intended. His intentions won’t make the “front page” of al Jazeera like his remarks have. I can’t imagine Karl Rove’s remarks inspiring the terrorists. They DO seem to have put a twist in your knickers though.

What Durbin said was despicable, as was the lack of censure of Durbin by his political colleagues and the “liberals” who are now infuriated with Rove. I actually find the crocodile tears and faux outrage comedic.

With age comes wisdom and I now understand what Mark Twain meant when he said: “ Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.”

So Senator Durbin, like Mark Twain, I believe you are an idiot. It’s not even torture you were speaking about, but coercion. Tying the coercion at Guantanomo Bay with torture by the likes of the GESTAPO, NKVD, KGB et al further confirms your idiocy. Your apology, while appreciated, is overdue and the damage to my fellow service members has been done. Sleep well, Senator, I’m sure your fund-raiser was successful with your play to the Democratic “base.”

As for my bona fides: me-veteran of OIF/OEF and the cold war; my eldest son-veteran of Kosovo and OIF; two uncles-Vietnam (one with Silver Star), my father-veteran of Vietnam, Cold War, Korean War and service as a Merchant Marine sailor in WWII; assorted brothers, sister, grandparents etc-veterans from WWII to the present.

So to most of the commenters to Peter Daou’s post (self-identified liberals, progressives, Marxists, progressives, socialists, etc.), I’m going to exercise my right of free speech and tell you to take your faux support for the troops and stick it in your ears. To those with deeply held convictions against the war who are NOT disparaging this Nation or its President, I say I respect your position but I have to politely disagree. Have a nice weekend folks.
