  1. Thank you for all the UK men & women who have died in service to their country and just as important for standing by America in it’s time of need - September 11, 2001.

    Never Forget.

  2. I’ll second that thought. God bless them all.

And I’ll add that the only way to reach out to the Taliban is with a MOAB. Darn it, we built the things, let’s use them.

  3. I look at the faces of the men and I can only think of waste.  They put themselves in the line of fire because they believed they were backing a righteous cause.  I believe that they have been betrayed.  They were in the line of fire when there was no chance of winning or even helping hold our position.  I’ve admired the dogged way they Brits have held on and done what they could.  I hope they know much more than I do.

Since Obama set a time table for withdrawal we’ve all seen this coming. It’s turning into a clusterf*ck.

At one point we might have had a chance of making a permanent difference.  Let’s face it, if you’re going to remake a society, you have to control it for a generation, possibly more and you’re going to have to indoctrinate very carefully, sometimes ruthlessly, letting go at the time of your choosing.

I don’t think there’s much point in second guessing now, we’ve already had the conversations about tactics.  I just don’t want guys putting their lives on the line for me, when it’s like this.  I want them where they will be vital to our security, where there will be a good reason for their sacrifice if it must be made.

    KING HENRY
I dare say you love him not so ill to wish him here alone, howsoever you speak this to feel other men’s minds. Methinks I could not die anywhere so contented as in the king’s company, his cause being just and his quarrel honorable.

    WILLIAMS
    That’s more than we know.

    BATES
Ay, or more than we should seek after, for we know enough if we know we are the king’s subjects. If his cause be wrong, our obedience to the king wipes the crime of it out of us.

    WILLIAMS
But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath a heavy reckoning to make, when all those legs and arms and heads, chopped off in a battle, shall join together at the latter day, and cry all, “We died at such a place,” some swearing, some crying for a surgeon, some upon their wives left poor behind them, some upon the debts they owe, some upon their children rawly left. I am afeard there are few die well that die in a battle, for how can they charitably dispose of anything, when blood is their argument? Now, if these men do not die well, it will be a black matter for the king that led them to it, who to disobey were against all proportion of subjection.

  4. Please Dr. Jeff - do NOT ever think of it as waste - these men and women - love themselves, their family and neighbors (yes, even ignorant 3rd century Afghans) and freedom enough to be willing to put their lives on the line. They know full well what they are doing and why. What you think or believe - yes, even how these debacles turn out in the end - is NOT the point, nor ever shall be (hopefully for civilized and free countries) - or We All are doomed.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
