  1. I think I just had an epiphany.Did anyone else here see the ‘Hand of God’ in that second photo? Thats just freaky. Why do I have the urgent need to sing Saving Grace?

  3. Drew,

Ya ever see the totally wooden, single lane bridge in Haworth (Bergen County)?

Granted, it dosn’t cross water. It goes over the West Shore railrod tracks.

When I was a kid in the 1950’s the road bed was wooden planking, but sometime in the 70’s they managed to pave it.

  4. Damn - I thought I was going to see the animal pics - teach me to read what you write beyond the headline.

  5. Wardmama, I added some animals and changed the subtitle, just for you.

  6. Remember the deer in our yard - sort of scraped up - apparently our little herd was infected with something - so last fall it was open season. I found out you can bait them - so I don’t feel so bad about feeding them. So I haven’t seen any this year. This year it’s the small critters - killed a groundhog already, caught a raccoon twice and a opossum. We have fruit but nothing else - the broccoli failed in the heat. Oh well, it’s better than last year.

  7. Check out the bridges in Pittsburgh if you get a chance, Drew, We have bridges constructed in the late 1800s to the early part of the century that are still in daily use.
Like the Washington Crossing Bridge or 40th street bridge for the plebeians, built from 1919 to 1924 and I get to drive across it 2 times a week.

  8. Doc, that’s a nice one. I like the Smithfield Street one better though -

however some of the claims for the Smithfield are wrong: it is not the oldest through truss in the country, not by far. Especially not if you take RR bridges under consideration. It is perhaps the oldest Lenticular, which was always pretty rare anyway.

  9. I’ve been on that one as well. This county is great for bridge and architecture lovers. It’s great for a good weekend just putzing around and rubbernecking.
