  1. This is an example of what I really hate about activists, no matter what their ‘cause’ - it’s ‘my way or death unto you.’ Imagine threatening to eviscerate someone’s child because of where they work!! How evil is that?

While I do not agree with some ‘animal rights’ issues (testing for makeup for one), I would not be here (nor my 4 spawn) if a cardiac physician somewhere had not cut open a dog and done a ‘test’ run of the surgery that saved my life. There is prime middle ground that does not involve abuse on either end.

There is a word (actually two) compromise and moderation. Neither side needs to go to extremes to either accomplish good, make their point or do their job.

Way too much activism these days. It is not any better than what they are ‘protesting.’

Ironic twist of America is that Child Protective Services rose out of the ASPCA - we actually at one time took concern of our ‘pets’ over our children.

    Sad commentary on America.

  2. I know I’ve linked to Professor Peter Waddington before, so forgive me, but whenever the subject of protesters comes up, I remember his wise words:

“I can’t imagine that the Government would be deflected by a protest of any size. Protest generally is among the least rewarding of political activities. It is a weapon of last resort for powerless interests.

“A quarter of a million people protested against the Conservative government’s closure of the coal mines in 1992, but the mines were closed.

“A quarter of a million people more recently protested against plans to ban hunting with dogs, but the government persists with its plans. Protest is more an act of witness, than an instrument of politics.

“If protesters very rarely win, they much more commonly lose. The prospect of disorder is far more of a threat to the anti-war movement than it is to government, for ‘soft’ opinion is easily alienated by scenes of violence on TV screens.”

    cool hmm

  3. I read this Topic article, and one word kept coming to mind. “idiots”.

To protest against inhumane treatment of animals, yet turn around and make threats of bodily harm is IDIOTIC at best.

    Total loss of objectivity.

  4. I think most of us pro-lifers do support the death penalty, OCM.

Why? Because an unborn child can not be found guilty or convicted by law of any crime, therefore, he/she should not ever be subjected to the death penalty. For example, an unborn child is not guilty of causing his/her own mother’s rape; of causing his/her own deformities; or of endangering his/her own mother’s health, livelihood, or financial status, etc. Yet many thousands are lawfully executed for any number of these reasons (and more) each year.

However, a man who is convicted of a heinous crime (for example, Tookie Williams) in a court of law and is found guilty can and should be sentenced to death for what he has done. Yet only a few are each year.

    How messed up is that?

  6. *deep breath*
Um Guys, I’m against animal testing for non-medical reasons too.
I’m with them in spirit on this one.
I think fur is evil, won’t eat veal(I don’t eat abused babies) and think we should club seal hunters-not baby seals!

I’m a right- leaning libertarian-and unapologetic for my pro-animal views.
    So be it.

  7. OCM & I love our animals, too.

See the next topic, re the student website. What we do here is Free Speech. Oft offensive…

Not!!! Free!!! Speech!!!>>> ”I’M GONNA KILL YOU, YOUR DIRTY JEW” <<<< Not!!! Free!!! Speech!!!

  8. Another news story close to my home. Huntington Labs is only a few miles away, about the same distance to the east as Jayson William’s house is to the west.

I have no sympathy for these ‘animal rights’ protesters. Their behavior is very similar to the cartoon jihadists. Flog them thoroughly and send them off to rot in jail.

There are no animal rights, nor have there ever been any. Even the bible says that man is the master of the beasts of the field. That does not mean that we should treat them with cruel abandon, but every drug, food, and every topical substance designed for human use must be properly tested before being released. And no, we can’t test them on criminals because of “cruel and unusual”.

  9. While I support animal testing for medical research, I don’t for other purposes.

However, I would NEVER threaten or do bodily harm against another human being to get that point across.Other venues of protest besides physical violence, or violence (period) should be actively pursued.

In as far as pro life, yes, I am pro life, ( tho’ I support the victims choice in as far as incest and/or rape) , AND i am also pro death penalty. I strongly believe that the death penalty should be implemented for the *worst of the worst*....and, in this day and age of advanced DNA testing, if there is no reasonable doubt, and supportive DNA evidence exists- the death sentence should be carried out within one month of the trial conclusion and sentencing.

  10. I’m with the Skipper on this one ... but how the hell do you pronounce SCAHABIAA?

Posted by Carguy    United States   03/03/2006  at  01:29 PM

  11. SKU-HAY-BEE-AH. Rhymes with “ARABIA” (where animals are treated with tender loving care - expecially the goats).

    LOL

  13. Jester good point. These dirtbags are terrorists and should be treated as such. In Britain some of these morons dug up the body of the mother of the owner of a guinea pig breeding farm. They still won’t tell the family what they have done with the body. Now that is terrorism and if they ever catch the perps, they should flog them naked through the streets in my view. Then lock them away for many, many years. Doubtless there is unecessary animal testing and I disagree with it. However, if we didn’t have animal research there would be a lot more suffering. Threatening people, sending bombs through the mail, beating people up, vandalising property etc. etc. ad nauseum is the work of terrorists pure and simple.

  14. These folks must not work together (or at all).  It’s the same 4 people at every protest.  “Lucy” is gonna look silly out there all by herself now that the rest of the posse is in the pokey.

  15. Folks - this is a local issue to me.  What the paper also does not remind folks of is that the people being “protested” (my term: Targeted) on the web site are by far and large in Trenton, NJ, and as such cannot legally own firearms to protect themselves.  Say what you will about the ethics of animal testing (and I am personally for LIMITED forms where life and limb are involved, not economic) but if some buttnugget is targeting my kids I’m coming after them with force.
These numbnuts have free speach - but if that free speach includes inciting people to harm me or mine, I have a responsibility and right to protect.  Rights come with RESPONSIBILITIES.

  17. Genesis 9:2-3
    God’s Covenant With Noah
2 The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands.
3 Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

  18. That “Pro Life” tag is a bit of a misnomer. It only applies to theirs!

Posted by Carguy    United States   03/03/2006  at  03:45 PM

  19. Yes, I love animals too - especially between a bun with some condiments.

OCM, you are right on ugly, violent and dumbass protests by Pro-Lifers - I don’t like it at all and think that it is hypocritical, demeaning and contradictory to their message.

I wrote to Code Pink about taking their ‘protest’ away from Walter Reed Hospital (and like maybe moving over to Congress), started when I caught the “Maimed for a Lie” sign and their response (I’ve written several times) is the same as Pro-Lifers when called on their violent protests - ‘It wasn’t one of our people.’

What garbage. Send ‘em packing but don’t let them hang around and then backtrack when you get called on the carpet about it.

I really, really don’t like activism at all - it has taken such a nasty tone here in America.

Had some nice cow smothered in cheese on a bun for dinner, as I said, I love animals.
