  1. Don’t forget to research it Peiper. A lot of those ‘free’ applications carry unwanted passengers. Nasty little data miners at best and full blown Trojans as a worse case scenario.
I looked into this program.. Basically, it’s a shortcut to upgrade/install things, best for new Windoze installations or for tech illiterate relatives..
    Seems to be legit.

  2. I know it’s a pain to re-install software after a load and update of the OS, and frankly, I hate doing it.  A utility like this could really ease the pain, so it’s very tempting.

And… if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.  Like Doctor DETH, I see a single point of incursion here that’s setting alarm bells off in my head.

I’ll hang back, keep it in mind, but wait about a year to see if any negative stories pop up in the IT news about this tool.

  3. Gee, truth to tell I didn’t research only because it came from a well established computer magazine I’ve been buying for years. Even tho they’ve raised their price a couple of times and then “improved” what was already good enuff to keep. I know the magazine, Web User, wouldn’t be passing off bad sites but of course anything is possible in the world of cyber.

I didn’t get any warnings when I went to the site.

I’m still undecided but only cos I hate spending money on something that was free. But then, it’s $10 which won’t take bread off the table.  If I get it, I’ll post and let you know if any problems like net nasties etc came with it.

  4. Ha, good one, considering my last downloaded app was one to utterly uninstall any application. That too was a free utility, but free only for a trial period, something like 3 apps fully uninstalled.

Windows is a dirty OS, and many Windows programs are even dirtier. By dirty I mean that they don’t wipe their shoes on the mat before coming in your house; Windows creates a bunch of junk every day, and many applications do not fully uninstall. They leave bits behind in the registry, .dll files, etc. All that wastes disk space and adds to processing overhead.
