A singular and sad day for Brit military literally stabbed in the back. Is it time to go?

  1. It is such a struggle for me to not paint these folks with a broad brush. Surely the whole of Arab culture isn’t a wash. Surely some of them can be trusted to keep their word and allegiances. They are human beings, after all, we have that much in common with them, don’t we? But every time I see stories like this I am reminded of the arguments that we shouldn’t even be trying to free these people as they are incapable of handling it. I know that imposing freedom isn’t the way to go - if you don’t fight for something you don’t value it as much. But giving them breathing room to get freedom up and running… I thought that was a noble and not wasted endeavor. Any more I wonder if I need to rethink my position.

  2. Nicole I gave up on that struggle a long time ago. Though to be fair, the Afghans would be deeply insulted if you called them arabs. Same with many Iranians who consider themselves Persian and therefore better than arabs. I worked years ago with a chap who had done his national service in the army. He had been based in Palestine after WW2. He didn’t have a very high opinion of “arab” culture. At the root of it all is a death cult they subscribe to called islam and unless there is some kind of root and branch overhaul or they convert to Christianity/Hinduism/Buddhism etc. I don’t see things changing anytime soon.

  3. I realize they aren’t all Arabs, but I didn’t want to assume they were all Islamic either. I guess either assumption is broad brushstrokes, hm? But I think you are unfortunately correct. Their religion will not let them get past the 12th century - it hasn’t changed or evolved at all. Anyone who might want to expand tolerance a bit are met by the violent fundamentalists and put right back down. In a world where the system is set up so that the weak have no rights beyond what they can take by force, change isn’t gonna come any time soon or without a lot of blood.

  4. Bit rich suggesting the Americans challenge Europe to a war when the British Army has been beside your country’s military for years now and have sustained the second heaviest losses of life.

We’re still losing young men day by day because our Prime Minister is waiting for your President to give him his instructions as to how the troops progress.

Personally they should be withdrawn as quickly as possible.  Why we’re playing second fiddle to the US like this defeats me.  We finished paying the bill a couple of years ago for the eventual help we received with WW2.

  5. Bit rich suggesting the Americans challenge Europe to a war

    Subrosa,
I think you took my comment in a way I didn’t intend. Wasn’t a challenge to Britain, which in my mind has always been separate from Europe.

In impotent frustration I admit, I was suggesting we simply carpet bomb everything and as the old expression goes, let god sort em all out.  I’m saying really that if we did that and Europe started weeping and hand wringing and getting snarky with us, we should flip em the bird and ask em what they’re gonna do about it. Just anger and deep frustration over things we can’t do a damn thing about really.  I don’t think wars are fought by rules only one side recognizes. We need to hit em hard and fast and just pile up the corpses.
And we need to do the same with the fifth column in both our countries. And if not yours, then for certain mine.  Sadly, that ain’t gonna happen either.

  6. It’s not the countries which need carpet bombed peiper, it’s our politicians.  The world is being run by men who have no morals and their only aim is power and money.

There are so few fifth columnists in Scotland they would all fit in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh.  Mainly labour politicians I may add.

No I agree, sadly it isn’t going to happen.  We’re stuck with our leaders’ type of democracy not what we grew up to know a democracy.  When did it all slip away?  I’m angry because I never even noticed it until recently.

  7. subrosa,
I think you touched on something there. Reading about the recent expenses scandal, it’s soooooooo clear that these ppl have not gone into politics to better their country but rather to feather their own nests.  They’re even complaining about their pay!  Like someone has forced them against their free will to run for political office. Gee, the poor innocent kids.

One of the columnists in the last day or two, writing in the MAIL, has even used the word Treason.
5th column.  Scotland is lucky in your example.  Ask any American and we can reel off the ppl and organizations that are now and have for a long time, undermined our country & brought it to where it is now.

“When did it all slip away?”
Is a really sad question and one many will understand.

  9. Thanks for the link DD. It was sent to me recently and it’s not the first report stating such action.  Unfortunately it will not be given even the time of day by those who consider the suggestion makes mercenaries from our troops instead of combat and peacekeepers.
