Drew .......... You always seem to find appropriate posts, comments, blogs etc.
That was a wow.
So far, altho there are hoops, we haven’t run into too much BUT I have to say the American side of things pretty bad as well. Bureaucracy doesn’t seem to change with borders.
The American embassy gave a link for example, to find an answer to a question.
But it wasn’t there so I found a place that said contact us. Had a phone number and an email address. I decided to try email first especially since OUR embassy collects something like $2 a minute for the privilege and honor of speaking to them on a premium phone line. OK ... so I emailed and got a puter generated reply saying that emails weren’t accepted. This in spite of the fact that I followed all their instructions. I guess at 2 bucks a minute they’d prefer the call. Generally I have to say, the Brits do try and be helpful while my fellow Americans give the impression of not even being interested.
Of course not Peiper - you aren’t the right color or religion and oh, yeah - you are doing the whole thing LEGALLY!
What a crock - but I can tell you everything government sucks right now - both my eye Dr and I called and talked to the ‘insurance’ about an eye surgery (laser no big deal) - Yes, yes we cover that 100% - well I paid 100% and then when I went to do the second eye - We both asked how come that last happened - you said you cover it, but I ended up paying - said I did not have referral - had some Dr from the local MTF (military treatment facility - 1+ hour north of us - we have not used since arrival in OH) who I’d never heard of. So I get a referral - and bingo paid another 100% - we had not met our ‘deductible’ which is humorous - since I’ve had to pay everything this year - of course I haven’t met the deductible - I’ve been paying it all! I am so sick of this - and it isn’t just the government healthcare bs - my dental now is just fudging by barely covering anything (which they did not cover much of anything at all the first year).
I think they are all doing it on purpose to get everyone clamoring for gov healthcare - which is ironic since our healthcare is a gov ‘entitlement’ based deal. As I’ve said in the past - youngest son would not be alive today - if it had been up to our gov healthcare - they said no to all - generous people across America paid for his treatment and I thank each and every one of them. State of the art, cutting edge treatment - wouldn’t even come close to that in the gov.
Heck my hubby hasn’t seen his Doc in over a year - great medical care there (and he is a disabled vet).
I can’t - envision the DMV, IRS, or public education - of a single reason any sane person would want the gov to take over healthcare - believe me - even without considering the massive tax hikes - IT AIN’T FREE.
Wardmom, I had an endoscopy on Dec 24. All clear they said but found a node way back of the throat I think. So they said they had to refer me to ENT surgeon and I’d get a letter to let me know when the appointment was. Well, by Feb. 3rd I began to wonder whats up and so called yesterday. Oh, so sorry. Somehow the papers went astray and ended up in the wrong dept where nobody knew what to do about it. DOH. If I had not called I’d still be wondering, whats up? So I’ll hear in another week when the appointment is.
Peiper - We’ve had the paper work ‘misplaced’ too - it is one reason my daughters Certificate of an American Born Abroad is dated 1 year past her birth - oops, sorry. And in TX when I supposed to be scheduled for surgery - they registered it as a ‘follow-up’ - as you said, if I hadn’t called - and all I get is another oops, sorry.
And OCM, it isn’t our providers - it is the gov insurance - they go for the least and when you are retired, the care even less. My hubby does not like his doctor, is maxed out working and going to school - so he hasn’t bothered - she isn’t treating those things which are bothering him and trying to get him on every new drug going. So to him, it is a waste of time anyway.
My dad - a doctor who bartered for payment - would be ashamed at what healthcare has become and it is the mostly the fault of Insurance, Lawyers and the government. And of course the Illegal Immigrants who are also messing the system up grandly.
