  1. Us rich white college educated Republicans all used to have library cards when we were kids. Then we discovered jobs and money. Now we just BUY books instead, and build up our own libraries. And we have the internet too, so paying a visit to the periodicals room is a thing of the past.

Well, I’ll be nice, and include some rich white college educated Democrats in there too. And probably some rich college educated Asians too, of any political stripe.

Actually, I have had a library card ever since I was a little boy. No matter where I’ve lived, I always visit the library sooner or later.

  2. A far more useful poll would have been to find out how many folks of what groups read for pleasure. And then break down reading into a couple categories:

    Actual books
Magazines with more words than pictures
    Newspapers
    Pron

The other useful question would be frequency. How much time do you read for pleasure per week?

The library card question is semi-useless. How often do you visit the library? is a much better question. I haven’t used my library card in 6 months, but I have one. Big whup. But I still chew through at least 1 book per week or more. Ok, less when I’m really busy, but I still spend at least 20 minutes reading before sleep each night.
