  4. On her behalf, thank you all very much. Passing the exam was good for an immediate $2/hr raise. Right on the congratulatory text message from her doctor. Plus they had a party for her the next day [ they know she’s looking for a better job, so they’re trying to make her want to stay ]. And she’s already been on an great interview, to do the same job in a bigger practice for more money. And it’s only been 24 hours.

    Maybe I should look into this profession. It has it’s own Ick Factor, but it’s sure better than cleaning out clogged drains. Or washing windows out in the cold or in the baking sun. And I’ve picked up a lot of the terms and stuff just by osmosis. No, the pay will never be up there with working in the corporate world. So what?

    Also, I think the health professions are fairly impervious to recession, and they can’t be off-shored or outsourced. You don’t even need a college degree to do this job, and there’s no heavy lifting or production line stress, and it’s all inside in a nice quiet office.
