  1. I do not know if your hot water heater is gas or electric, but you are getting a shock because you have a floating ground issue in your home. IE, a short circuit. When you touch the water or the faucet YOU become the ground.

Do not touch any faucet in the house without wearing rubber souled shoes and rubber gloves!
The toilet ought to be safe as long as it is dry on the outside.

Almost all homes use the water pipe as a ground for the electricity.

Likely causes of this are some appliance that has a short in it but is still running, or a bit of bare grounding wire somewhere in the home.

Lucky you that it isn’t the hot wire that’s shorted. With the 220 you have in the UK, touching the water could be fatal.

Don’t just call the electrician, scream for him.

  2. http://www.contractortalk.com/f5/shocked-when-touching-bath-faucet-43988/

Read this, especially “Magnettica“‘s long post of 8/30 in the middle of page 1. The ground short may not even be in your house. It could be in the house next door, where they’ve be doing all sorts of work.

    Call the power company ASAP.

  3. SJP’s problem is not ground related. Hers is due to wearing a very small outfit that is made from way too much elastic. Stretch one end and it pulls away from the other. Next time wear something with straps, or find a stickier brand of boob tape.

To my surprise, she actually looks pretty hot in these pics. So often she looks like a battle weary horse. Guess it’s all in the lighting and the camera angle.

  4. Drew’s right it needs checking urgently. Drew an immersion heater is an electric element that fits into a large copper tank for hot water. They are expensive to run as they (are if memory serves 7Kw) and the voltage btw is 240V in the UK or it should be. Continental Europe runs 220V. Most new homes have what’s called a “consumer unit” in place of the old fashioned fuse boxes. Consumer units have earth leakage circuit breakers fitted. If you had one of these it would have shut your power off, but I suspect in an old house like yours it has a bunch of old style wire fuses. You need I’m afraid to get a good electrician. Since your getting on in years I would either speak to citizens advice bureau or age concern and get them to recommend someone. That way you wont get some fly by night doing the job who will rip you off. Bear in mind JayD if you plan on selling it the prospective buyer will want an inspection and upgrading the electrics is money well spent.

  5. Damn scary stuff guys and thanks.

Well, its past 7 and I called earlier to find out where this “engineer” is. Doh .. messages not passed and so will get a call tomorrow morning.

Will pass on this info .

Lyndon ... we have coverage thru So. Water and thru them ... Homeserve.  Have had no problems with em in the last three or so years but they dropped the ball today for sure.
Anyway ... am going to bed. Been an overlong day.  I have three PC magazines to keep me company.

BTW ... how can something they’re doing next door affect us?

I think their wiring may have now been installed, theirs is underground btw. Ours of course is above.  That new house is the very latest upmarket updated whatever, whatever.  Guy is a dentist. They’re a month behind sched I think, due a lot to weather.

Can’t think offhand of anything in the house re. loose wire (cept maybe me). How would ya know. Everything seems to work.

Drew ... FINALLY made it into town today and did the post office thing. Small envelope but packed with a lot as I had run out of 8x10s.  Much dated but possible interest anyway.

    cheers .. I’m gone.

  6. Now I know next to nothing about ‘engineering’ but a similar thing happened to me some years ago.  All my taps are ‘earthed’ and somehow the earth had dislodged (maybe cleaning round it or whatever).

Careful they don’t overcharge though MB, tell them your aunty’s Scottish. smile

  8. Rich ... how cruel. But funny.  More likely dress a size under.
Drew and I see eye to eye re. SJP.  I never thought her attractive either. But these shots do look good to my tired old eyes.

Scottish Aunt ... I think we have coverage and so there shouldn’t be any charge. We hope.

  9. SJP’s problem is that she’s trying to do-it-herself. She needs a hand or two. Mine are available. cool smile

  10. Shit, it would have been even funnier if her tits had fallen out while she was adjusting herself!
