Wrong is Right - insane making nonsense. Good luck surviving over there.
Yup,
The great Socialist countries of Britain and Ireland have this ingrained cultural thing about “remorse” being the end all for releasing violent criminals.
In Ireland, if you’ve beaten someone senseless and get caught (unlikely) they can’t release your name until you’re formally charged. AND, you’re generally released on bail (as little as $100) until the trial comes up. Most of these criminal types ask for and RECEIVE free legal services because they’re on the dole.
At the trial the defendant, coached by his solicitor regurgitates the same mantra that thousands of other criminals have done in the past:
1) “I show genuine remorse”
2) “I will pay the victim’s medical costs” (although with a public health system there are usually very few costs)
3) Me fadder was a heroin addict and me mudder was a whore. They beat and starved me.
4) Solicitor speaks: “My defendant has a troubled childhood, had a heroin habit and abused alchol. He really was off the rails on drugs and alcohol and doesn’t remember beating, stomping and raping that 89 year old widow after he broke into her council house.”
Now that has been said the State is loath to give jail sentences because that cost the State money. And the paramount thing is NOT spending money.
So, the judge usually says: You are sentenced to 5-years but I’ll SUSPEND the jail sentence if you promise to be of good behaviour. And you must pay €200 into the poor box. (or the Garda [police] benevolent fund)
So, the little old lady is black and blue all over, traumatised and probably will die within 6-months The 18-year old turd begins his laughing directly after he leaves the court-house, a cigarette hanging from his lips, on his way to the local pub to brag to his “mates2 how, for the 67th time, he’s “beat the system”.
The court appointed solicitor (lawyer) collects a huge fee from the government (taxpayer’s money) and.................
THAT’S ALL FOLKS.
Well said. And Yankee, did you happen to see the story about sweets left on the pillows of young offenders for their first night in jail?
I couldn’t make that up.
I may post that.
No peiper, I haven’t seen that. But nothing surprises me.
Maybe the staff were leaving the sweets to get the “young offenders” into the correct position......(HEH)
If this were to happen to my daughter or granddaughter, I would have to display patience in this matter. Patience to wait a few years when these scum are older and will turn around one day and see me with a Louisville Slugger in hand.
