OK -when you read the story - it is indeed a family heirloom and I’m with you.
I retire mine (and have a nice little pile, I keep forgetting to take them in). But as a parent (who sent/carried) a number of ‘good luck’ charms, symbols and such - when a child of yours is in harms way - you can see hope, protection and peace in the simplest of things.
I also have a red, white & blue wreath on the door - which has morphed into two (we have a long bare wall - where the previous owner hung a huge wreath) plus other r,w,b decorations - I just hang the yellow ribbon and a name plate when one of the family is deployed.
This is America - to each his own - and isn’t that what Freedom is about?
