Firstly, allow me to cover my ass. I draw service-connected compensation and get excellent healthcare from the VA Med Center. (’service-connected’ & ‘compensation’ are redundant but I put them in to clarify things for you scuzzy civilians)
There are limits to how much the US owes its veterans. High limits, but still limits. The problem is, our congress and executive branch have been full of men who avoided military service. Ergo, they lack the balls to set limits. It’s an embarassing subject to these men, so the easier course is to vote “yes” on any veteran benefit and change the subject.
The VA wants a huge budget, us vets want all we can get (who doesn’t?), but who is in charge of the cash register?
Yea, yea, there are examples of outrageous neglect. Fix them! But I’m talking about the budget, the balance sheet.
One thing to keep in mind is that any changes Bush has proposed to the VA budget do not affect disabled veterans.
