Good potential for a hammer and anvil set up. China and India will NOT want the Taliban coming over their borders, so they’ll have to go along whether they like it or not. That leaves Pakistan coming in from the South and us coming in from the West.
Only a few things need to be worked out. Properly coordinating with Pakistan now that Pakistan understands who their friends are and aren’t is the first. Arranging things with China and India so that they can save face in the international community is the other. Technically, we don’t need to work with China or India, but why piss them off when we don’t have to?
Without our involvement, there could be some very good developments anyway. The article makes it sound as if Pakistan is just about releasing the fires of Hell on the Taliban. That still makes China and India anvils, with us being a 3rd anvil in Afghanistan, just “stopping” at the border of Pakistan.
Historically, Moslem countries are merciless when it comes to eliminating threats from secular groups such as the Palestinians or religious freaks like the Taliban. Typically, there seem to be about 20,000+ dead when the operations are finished and the survivors tend to be very respectful. Check out the history of Jordan and the Palestinians for an easy example. You won’t have to look very far to find more. The truly amazing part is that no one in the entire world gives a rat’s ass when Moslems chop up Moslems. Saddam Hussein would still be ruling Saudi Arabia if the West hadn’t been worried about oil supplies.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed. But if I learned anything from watching Bush and the Chicken Little Media wetting their pants over “terrorists rushing in from everywhere”, I learned that that makes for a lovely target rich environment.
He who dares, wins.
Waste them all.
Here Drew, I’ve made a slight revision to the map in question:
