Of course, I wouldn’t know a hop crop from a wheat crop.
Philistine!
there is a difference between ale and beer. Right?
Not really, but there is a difference between ale and lager. Ales use top fermenting yeast, lagers use bottom fermenting yeasts.
Kent is world famous for their hops. Named Kentish hops, their very own variety. Hops grows up like a vine, often towering 20 or more feet tall.
Ale uses a top yeast, ferments at a warmer temperature, and sometimes has no hops in it, although it usually contains much more hops than other beers. Lager bottom ferments at a colder temperature for a longer time, and almost always has hops.
Ale almost always has more alcohol in it than beer. That’s about all you can say, because brewing methods can produce a light tasting low alcohol ale, a heavy duty super hoppy boozy lager, and everything in between, so you can’t tell by flavor.
It’s all beer really.
Drew I should I was born in Kent and have worked in an Oast House (The building in the back of the photo) drying hops such as “East Kent Goldings” “Fuggles” “Challenger” and “Northern Brewer”
