  1. I wonder which Large Chemlawn companies pushed for this as a way to get the little guys out. You know there is always someone like that behind laws that restrict commercial activity.Just Sayin.

  3. Interesting that New Jersey should pass such laws.  There are problems with fertilizer runoff, but they aren’t on the Atlantic seaboard and the source isn’t private homes.

    It’s in the Gulf of Mexico and the source of the excess fertilizer are all the farms along the Mississippi river.  Since the soil is virtually worn out, the only way the farms can remain productive is by using chemical fertilizers by the megaton.  Every spring, the runoff from the farms goes down the Mississippi and gets dumped in the Gulf, creating a dead zone that tends to be about 20% of the Gulf of Mexico. 

    It’s not a problem on the East and West Coasts simply because there is no single point drainage like the Mississippi and the oceans are far bigger and have greater turnover than the Gulf which is a relatively small and stagnant body of water.
