Journal News map-listed guns, permits stolen from New City home
Two handguns and two pistol permits were stolen from the New City home of a man whose name and address are listed on the website of a local newspaper as possessing gun permits, police said.
The thieves ransacked the house Wednesday night, breaking into two safes on the home’s third floor and stealing a third safe. The guns were in the stolen safe, police said.
Clarkstown police said they had no evidence the burglary was connected to the controversial map.
“The burglary is still under investigation, and there are no facts to support this correlation at this time,” Clarkstown Sgt. Joanne Fratianni said in a statement. “If the investigation develops further information, it will be released accordingly.”
Family members at the burglarized home refused to speak publicly Thursday, and police are keeping reporters off the property on the quiet suburban street.
“At this early point in the investigation, we believe it is a random crime and the home was not targeted,” Clarkstown Det. Lt. Charles Delo told News12.
The burglary comes less than a week after a White Plains homeowner—who also was listed on the Journal News website as having gun permits—arrived home to find his home burglarized, with jewelry missing and an attempted break-in of his gun safe. The thieves were not successful, and no guns were stolen.
White Plains Police Commissioner David Chong said Monday that it was “premature” to connect that burglary to the website listing but said it was part of the police investigation.
The guns that were stolen in New City included a .45-caliber Colt revolver and a .22-caliber Iver Johnson. Cash, U.S. savings bonds and jewelry were also stolen.
The homeowner’s stolen pistol permits were for Rockland and Orange counties.
There is something a little odd here; a Rockland County permit is perfectly valid for Orange County: one gun owner does not need both. Perhaps there was more than one permit holder living at that address, and perhaps the Journal-News’ map was only capable of showing one person per address. Perhaps the owner had moved to Rockland County and had re-registered his pistols, but hadn’t yet got around to sending the old one back to Orange County.
Orange County is the next county to the north of Rockland County, and Rockland County is the first county across the Hudson River from New York City. Actually, directly across the Hudson from New York City is New Jersey, and Rockland County sits on the state border.
However, that’s all beside the point. The point is that his house got burgled, and not his neighbors. Funny that. Coincidence? I really doubt it. Like I said the other day: lawsuit time. Multi-million dollar lawsuit time. Sue the paper, sue the state.
The Journal-News does not even have the decency to take that page down, now that they’ve proved their point (whatever it was). Thus they knowingly continue to put law abiding citizens at risk. Sue them naked.
Aw Shucks, they was just playin around Drew, they didn’t mean nuthin by postin them maps.
In other News; Our New Mayor got PWND by a local talk radio jock during a public forum about what else,Guns.Lars Larson attended the event and made our new mayor look like the american marxist metrosexual fool that he is, by proving that every point he was trying to make was WRONG. I laughed heartily,it was fun to hear.
And in other happy news locally, our county sheriff, not one to mince words, came out and said he would not support ANY federal actions related to Gun control that included confiscation,Period,End of story.
It was a good day.

It saddens me that enough people would vote for such a tool to elect him, and he’s signed on with MAIG into the bargain. My brother lives in Beaverton, so he votes for his own fools. What we need is some way to deflate this “common sense” nonsense they keep peddling. I’ve been thinking on it, hopefully someone will come up with something soon; that term just grates on my nerves.
Not only sue, but hold them criminally liable / responsible [ha!]. Seriously, perhaps if we held criminals responsible for their actions - and jailed them, quite UNcomfortably - then perhaps crime stats would drop. I know. Wrong of me to even think it. And probably racist, too. Make jail and prison be a threat. Cots with a thin mattress and a blanket. Maybe a pillow - maybe. Never mind - if you want a pillow, YOU pay for it! Enough calories in the meals so that the prisoners - ALL OF THEM - can do a full day of labor on the roads with pick-axes. Or something. No cable t.v. No educational classes - they are already offered, it’s call public school. Make inmates responsible for their own health-care costs [no more free sex change operations!]. And set examples.
Unfortunately “we” don’t have the guts to do this. Set examples. Our court system is a joke [one I worked in for over twenty years, so I state this as a fact, not an opinion]. The ACLU would NEVER allow my plan. After all, the criminals have rights.
You make an example of the Journal owners, publishers, editors, and the NYT would never divulge secrets again… Just a thought.
