Oh, and you’re damn right Americans own half a billion guns. That “65 million Americans own firearms” is an ancient meme that’s probably 25 years out of date. Guns have been selling at about 13-15 million per year for years now. And the vast number of citizens who own guns, own more than just one. One in five gun owners owns a dozen or more firearms. Maybe one in three. Heck, I don’t know anybody who only has one gun. Guns last nearly forever with just the smallest amount of care; those made 120 years ago can still work just fine and you can probably still get ammo for them. And guns are just about the only thing Americans don’t throw away, except for the rare dingdong who goes to one of those statist buy-back events. Run the numbers yourself. Half a billion is probably an huge underestimate. A billion? Two billion? Doesn’t matter: more guns only proves my point further.
For once I have an article that fits like a glove:
There were 192 shootings in Chicago throughout the month of November - a 49 percent increase from a year earlier - according to police records obtained by the Chicago Tribune.
Despite having some of the strictest gun laws in the country, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel plans on restricting gun ownership further by banning individuals with a violent misdemeanor conviction from getting a gun permit for five years. The mayor also hopes to ban convicted felons from ever owning a gun.

Look what I found out about OUR local escapade at the Mall:
Have you wondered why, in such a target rich environment as a suburban shopping mall two weeks before Christmas, the shooter at the Clackamas Town Center only managed to kill two people before dousing his own lights? Part of the reason was a dodgy gun. But as is being reported by kgw.com, part was also due to the fact that, gun-free zone or not, Jacob Roberts was confronted by Nick Meli who was armed and has a concealed carry permit. No, he didn’t fire because he feared hitting an innocent person behind Roberts if he missed. But Roberts knew Meli was there: “I know after he saw me, I think the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself.” David Frum was unavailable for comment.
