Yeah, it’s him again.
And as usual for me reading this guy, I’m annoyed. Again.
What the hell is it with foreigners who come to the USA and then decide they know better how we should approach the issue of gun ownership?
He mentions a stat with regard to gun killings here in Britain. Well hell, with a population of 62 million I would hope they wouldn’t have a s high a murder rate as we do in the US. But how convenient he doesn’t mention the daily killing by knives and by beatings. Everyday.
He’s on CNN as many of you may know. But he has a page in a Sunday magazine here.
Fire when ready BMEWS.
Another day, another horrific gun shooting in America.
This time, a white supremacist entered a Sikh temple in Wisconsin and murdered six worshippers, wounding three other people – including a policeman.
Three weeks ago, a young student dressed as the Joker went on the rampage in a Colorado cinema, shooting 70 people in the country’s worst ever gun-related massacre.
In my first month at CNN, in January, 2011, a congresswoman was shot in the head at an outdoor meeting in Arizona but miraculously survived. Six others were killed, 13 more wounded.
To me, the most disturbing aspect linking all these terrible crimes is that each of the gunmen bought his guns perfectly legally – yet, incredibly, very few Americans I know have a problem with this.
The right to bear arms is so deeply ingrained into the culture in the U.S. that all these outrages get explained away as ‘a few crazies doing crazy things’ and no proper debate on new gun control laws ever happens, let alone actual changes to the law.
It all comes down to the precise wording of the Second Amendment to the American Constitution, which reads: ‘A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.’
The pro-gun lobby, one of the most powerful and noisy forces in American society, argues that this amendment authorises every American to own and use guns.
The anti-gun lobby argues that the exact placement of the commas shows that the Founding Fathers intended the ‘right to bear arms’ only to apply to members of a militia – which, in the 18th century meant an army composed of ordinary citizens, not professional soldiers.
Those commas have thus become the most deadly, expensive and controversial punctuation marks in the history of language.
Whatever your view, the idea that what Thomas Jefferson and his cohorts had in mind when they wrote the Constitution was defending the rights of the mentally unstable or violent racists to legally, and easily, buy high-powered assault weapons to murder other Americans is plainly ridiculous.
The big question for America, where there are an average 11,000 gun murders a year (Britain averages 35), is whether, after the Presidential election on November 6, Barack Obama or Mitt Romney will have the guts to stand up, say so, and do something about it.
Don’t hold your breath.
Too bad this jackass didn’t do his research better (where’d he get these talking point, the Brady website?), or we would have heard how Chicago and D.C. have the highest gun related crimes AND the most restrictive gun laws in the U.S.
Fark off! No sane member of the U.S Government is going to state they are for tougher gun laws, it’s a nearly automatic failure for their campaign.
Oh, go read the papers of the founding fathers, d***weed - they clearly state the purpose of the second amendment is two fold - 1. For the People to protect themselves. 2. For the Government to fear the People.
Tired of the journalists who think they can change the constitution with a stroke of their pen - dumbass, do you realize that you got your first amendment right to free speech because the second amendment?
And yet, if you read the background information - these murderers - all had previous contact with LEOs and most with psychiatric ‘professionals’ - who did nothing - and yet it is our lax gun laws to blame?!? Only liberals can ignore the law, bypass the law and then blame a Constitutional RIGHT as the ‘sole cause of the problem’.
To me, the most disturbing aspect linking all these terrible crimes is that each of the gunmen bought his guns perfectly legally – yet,
As pointed out above - those places with the most restrictive gun laws - have the highest gun crime rates. Go figure.
Just another way for liberals to control the masses to obtain all the power for themselves - all based on lies, pure and simple.
Why waste words on a moron,F_CK HIM!!
Obama’s Manchurian army strikes again. Morgan you are a little liberal bitch and you touch things you’re not supposed to touch.
Who is this twat??
Holy crap, is he still going on with the BS “commas” argument? Get a Effin Clue loseroid: the Supremes have made their ruling. And the rest of us have ALWAYS known about the old style of writing with the various clauses in the beginning: all it ever meant was “Here is but one example that shows why the next part is the way it is.” So bugger off.
And YES, the US of A is supposed to be an armed republic. Every citizen, with a firearm, in their damn hands, every hour of every day. Because only then will there be NO crime. No rapes, no murders, no assaults, no robberies, no bullying. Fuck with me and I will shoot you dead: that’s what it’s all about. America. We call that freedom. Freedom from abuse, freedom from being a victim, and freedom from ever even needing the officers of the king to keep the King’s Peace, when we all know how corruptable they really are. And without all that crap, where even the weakest are fully equal and given respect and fair treatment, we can then move on to the good part, what we call The Pursuit of Happiness.
After a couple generations, the knowledge that every citizen has the power to blow your dumb fucking head off in their hands at all times tends to develop a kinder, gentler citizen, with naturally high morals and a friendly manner. Because all the scuzz-buckets are dead already, and thus not breeding any longer.
The only time the guns thing becomes a problem is when the guns get in the hands of people who are citizens by the pure luck of being here, but who have never EARNED freedom for themselves nor their forebears either, nor those who chose to come here to GET that freedom. The ones who have NO RESPECT for our traditions and NO KNOWLEDGE of what begin an American is all about. Those who join gangs, those who are the criminal element, those who prey on the weak ... those who contend that our Constitution is a fundamentally flawed document and say so while running for election. Those are the ilk that is doing the greatest number of “gun crimes”, and unfortunately has the media in their pocket pushing their nebulous lifestyle and all it’s baser aspects as the cool thing for the rest of us to emulate ... put yourself back in the gutter your great grandparents crawled out of and ran away from. Riight. Anyway, once you remove that group’s numbers from the shooting statistics, you find that the rest of America is a darned peaceful place.
PS - it’s a total red flag (and I mean RED flag in every way you can mean it) to give shooting numbers for Brits, when the people have mostly been disarmed. Add in the number of “Knife Crimes” and “Cricket Bat Crimes” or whatever y’all use on each other, and maybe then we can compare apples to apples.
PPS - Wardmama is right as usual: get the crazy people back in the wards where they once were, and almost all of these mass shootings stop happening.
Horry Clap, I forgot my favorite Heinlein quote:
An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.
