The results of the Iowa caucus are on hold right now, “for quality checks”.

Which means Bernie is probably way ahead, and that’s not the result that the DNC wants. So they’ll execute and AlGore-ithm I guess.

You remember the difference from 2000, right?

a coding error in the hastily programmed and secretive app led to an unprecedented breakdown in reporting results — and left Democratic voters waking up Tuesday morning with no idea who had won the pivotal caucuses.

There’s no indication that the snafu was caused by a cyberattack. But the problems with the app, which was created by a little-known company called Shadow, Inc., exemplify the danger of incorporating new and untested technologies into the voting process, experts say.

“What this shows is that internet-based systems can be extremely fragile,” said David Jefferson, a computer scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory who has advised the national Democratic Party about voting technology issues. “You should not deploy a system that hasn’t gone through rigorous and scaled testing, and you should not deploy a system whose architecture and technical details are secret.”

Got that right Davey. Hire these guys at $10/hr to write the thing. Hire some other team at $50/hr to test it. When it passes every kind of software test out there, especially load testing, then pay the developers a half mil and use the thing once for real, but in the background. When it works in the real world, then pay the coders a couple million and release the code to the world as an act of beneficence, and then everybody can use it. Everybody, even you and me. Screw this Secret Squirrel BS. Because it’s just a reporting app. This is really pretty darn simple code, and it is absolutely non-interactive. All it does is add up some numbers, then send the totals to the app interface. It’s not much more involved than an adding machine mated to a text message.

AOC and Bernie Introduce Bill To Ban Fracking Nationwide

What else do you need to know?Commies, out to tear down America. Like that’s news.

An anti-fracking bill crafted by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) aims to end the practice altogether, making it illegal “on all onshore and offshore land in the United States” by Jan. 1, 2025.

The bill, according to the Hill, aims to end fracking altogether, revoking permits for “wells where fracking takes place and that are within 2,500 feet of a home, school or other ‘inhabited structure’” beginning February 1, 2021. It would also “immediately prevent federal agencies from issuing federal permits for expanded fracking, new fracking, new pipelines, new natural gas or oil export terminals and other gas and oil infrastructure.”

It would make the practice, which Ocasio-Cortez has identified as the “leading contributor to our climate emergency,” illegal by January 1, 2025.

“Fracking is a danger to our water supply. It’s a danger to the air we breathe, it has resulted in more earthquakes, and it’s highly explosive,” Sanders said in a statement, according to the Hill. To top it all off, it’s contributing to climate change.”

“If we are serious about clean air and drinking water, if we are serious about combating climate change, the only safe and sane way to move forward is to ban fracking nationwide,” he continued.

Critics of Sanders have defended the practice, warning that its elimination would “spike household energy costs and hurt farmers and manufacturers.”

American Petroleum Institute spokeswoman Bethany Aronhalt told the Hill:

Banning a safe, successful method of developing energy would erase a generation of American energy progress and in the process destroy millions of U.S. jobs, spike household energy costs and hurt farmers and manufacturers.

Pity, because the Indian Point reactor supplies a big chunk of the electricity for NYC, and the whole central-western part of NY sits on the Marcellus Shale, which is a massive deep oil and gas field that only fracking can get to. And as one goes, so goes the next; expect Fauxcahontas and Butt-gig to climb on this bandwagon if they aren’t already aboard. Because they’re all freakin’ idiots.

Although before 2008 the Marcellus Shale was considered to have inconsequential natural gas potential, it is now believed to hold the largest volume of recoverable natural gas in the United States. In 2012, it was estimated to have 141 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable gas by the US Energy Information Administration, and 88 trillion cubic feet by the US Geological Survey. In September 2012, the Marcellus Shale overtook the Haynesville Shale of northwest Louisiana as the leading producer of both shale gas and overall natural gas in the United States. In February 2014, Marcellus gas wells produced 14.0 billion cubic feet per day, a 42 percent increase over the year previous, and comprising 21 percent of all the dry gas produced that month in the United States. By 2018, production had grown further from an average of 19.4 Bcfd and reached more than 21 Bcfd in December 2018.  This increase in production, from the most productive basin in the U.S., has been a major contributor to the significant decline in price for natural gas

Chinese Herpes Monkeys In Florida

Oh great, another invasive introduced species of Asian disease carrier. Where else? You knew it had to be Florida.

There’s a new resident in the Julington Creek neighborhood Jacksonville. Also in St. Johns, St. Augustine, Palatka, Welaka and Elkton.

In all, a dozen confirmed sightings of a feral, invasive monkey species: the rhesus macaque.

Videos and photographs – grainy and shaky, shot by homeowners – track the trail of a species expansion that experts call concerning and possibly dangerous.

“The potential ramifications are really dire,” University of Florida wildlife ecologist Dr. Steve Johnson told First Coat News. “A big male like the one in that video in Jacksonville—that’s an extremely strong, potentially dangerous animal.”

First Coast News obtained two videos and several photographs taken of the monkeys. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials call the reports credible, a likely expansion of the feral monkey population in Central Florida.

Rheseus macaques were first introduced to Silver Springs State Park in the late 1930s when a tour boat operator named Colonel Tooey released six of them on a manmade island as a tourist attraction. He released another six a decade later.

“Guess what?” laughs Johnson. “They can swim. They left the island.”

The monkeys have lived in the state park ever since – alternately mesmerizing and terrifying parkgoers. They’ve also ranged well beyond the park boundaries, with sightings far as Tampa and Apopka.

But this is the first time the monkeys have been reported on the First Coast.

Julington Creek resident Carrie Bennett is admittedly wary of the primates. “That is definitely a concern because I walk the dogs at like 5:30 in the morning and its pitch blackout,” she said. “If they bit me, if they came after and bit you, you don’t know what they have, what they’re carrying.”

In fact, the monkeys carry—and shed—the Herpes B virus, which can be fatal to humans. It’s what Johnson calls a “low risk, high consequence” possibility. The animals are also physically imposing with “strong arms, a very strong bite [and] large canine teeth.”

In the mid-1980s the population spiked to almost 400. Between 1984 and 2010, around 1,000 were trapped and killed in an attempt to control the population.

In the 1970s, a laboratory animal supply company introduced rhesus macaques to the Florida Keys, but they were removed between 1990 and 2000 after they ruined red mangroves, causing a loss of vegetation and eroded the shoreline.

Now, the animals, which can live for over three decades in the wild in groups of between 10 to 80 monkeys, have been spotted in the Julington Creek, St. Johns, St. Augustine, Palatka, Welaka and Elkton areas of northeast Florida, according to First Coast News.

Dr. Steve Johnson, an expert in primates at the University of Florida, told First Coast News, “The potential ramifications are really dire.”

I’d say, hunt them to extinction. At around 15-17lb full grown, they’re the perfect size game for a .22LR. Since they probably travel in packs, you’ll want a repeater with a large magazine and several buddies hunting with you.

OTOH, they could try trapping them and using them as python bait.

1 Dead 5 Wounded In CA Greyhound Bus Shooting

A woman died and five others were injured when another passenger open-fired aboard a Greyhound bus traveling north from Los Angeles to San Francisco early Monday morning, officials said.

Police responded at 1:27 a.m. PT to several 911 calls regarding a shooting on a Greyhound bus traveling northbound on Interstate 5 near the village of Grapevine, about 80 miles north of Los Angeles, said Steve Loftus, communications supervisor for the California Highway Patrol, to Fox News.

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Others were rushed to local hospitals. One of the five wounded was transported to a hospital by helicopter, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Brian Pennings said at a press conference. A male suspect was taken into custody.

The motive remained under investigation. The names of the suspect and victims were not immediately released by authorities.

“The bus driver somehow managed to get the shooter off the bus and left him on the highway shoulder, where he was arrested without incident,” Pennings said. After leaving the gunman behind, the driver continued on to the next exit and pulled into the parking lot of a gas station.

The bus driver pulled over to the right shoulder. The gunman left the bus voluntarily and left the gun behind on the bus. The shooter is now in police custody awaiting questioning.

California Highway Patrol said 43 people were on the bus, including the driver.

Officers said the person who died in the shooting is a 51-year-old woman from Colombia.

Right now, there is no word on a motive behind the attack.

And this is why I drive, and also why I’ll never visit California. 

At least this time the bus killer didn’t eat the victims.

Kate Upton is partnering with Canada Goose to raise awareness on climate change with outerwear that gives back.

The model is the face of the Toronto-based luxury brand’s latest campaign for its Polar Bears International Line, which raises money for protecting the threatened bear species and how it is affected by global warming and greenhouse gas emissions, the company announced Monday.

The PBI collection features five spring styles including rainwear and lightweight down options. Polar bears were listed as a threatened species in the U.S. under the Endangered Species Act in 2008 because the sea ice habitat of the bears is shrinking as a result of climate change. Canada Goose has donated more than $3.5 million to the organization, the company said in a statement.

The winter coat maker, known for its puffer jackets marked with its ubiquitous red, white and blue patch that cost upwards of $1,000, has been sported by the Hollywood crowd in recent weeks. The brand was a sponsor at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where it handed out hundreds of its limited-edition coats to directors and actors in attendance. The exclusive jackets were gray and designed with deep pockets and a Sundance 2020 logo on its sleeve.

Deep pockets ... seems appropriate when you consider how much they charge for one of their coats.

And I’m sure climate change is affecting the poor little polar bears, giving them warming weather so they don’t freeze to death so often, and more food to eat as well. Also, I have serious doubts is most polar bears are impacted by greenhouse gases.

No truth to the rumor that on weekends Kate Upton prefers to partner with Grey Goose instead.

kind of brain fried today

Maybe I can find something post-worthy later. Didn’t watch the stupor bowel, didn’t see the halftime stripper pole show. No point in writing about shampeachment, and the Wuhan virus thing is dull, even as the world continues to panic and the number of cases rise everywhere.

I don’t think I’m getting sick again, but with all the chilly damp weather it’s been hard for me to stay warm the past few days, even with extra clothes on. Beats me.

Sometimes You Bake A Brick

I’m making rescue bread right now. It started out as a regular sourdough dough, with a good dose of “ancient grains” because when I made a batch of pretzels I didn’t have enough spelt left over to make another batch. So that went in, along with some whole wheat, all purpose, some bread flour, 2.7% salt, 75% hydration, and a good splot of starter. Not sure what happened, but the “dough” was really slack, reminiscent of warm pudding.

And it sat there. And sat there. And sat there for hours, doing nothing. Nothing. 7 hours in the proofer, then overnight in the fridge, then another 2 hours on the counter this morning. The recipe started out to be for just one loaf, but it wound up being bigger, so I made two loaves. Baked one this morning, and it’s a brick. Did not rise at all. Crivens.

So I took the other loaf out of the shaping basket, and made up a slurry of instant yeast, a little sugar, water, and a half a cup of flour. I worked that in by hand, and found myself with a sticky wet blob. So back into the mixer, add another half cup or so of AP. Power knead it but good, and eventually I had something that looked like dough. Into the proofer for an hour ... and it just sat there. Grrr!!

Never one to surrender, I worked the dough again, doing some stretch and fold kneads while working a bit more flour into it. Then I jacked up the temperature of the proofer to 91°, and finally it started to rise. Got it up quite a bit, shaped the dough and put it back in the shaping basket. Took the temperature up to 93, and I’m giving it another half hour. At which point, too bad, it’s going in the oven.

Sourdough doesn’t always come out right. But with some effort you can usually rescue things enough. And that’s what this is. Rescue bread.

So I saved it. And it came out pretty good. It’s not a recipe I’d make again, but it was good enough, and there was fresh bread for everyone. The pretzels were a big hit, as always.

More Unhinged Leftists

An Oregon teacher was arrested after police say she hurled “various expletives” at a sexual assault victim after approaching the woman in a restaurant last week.

Trisha Ebbs, 50, was arrested for disorderly conduct after police were called to a “Hops N Drops” on Keizer Station Boulevard Friday over reports that the high school teacher verbally attacked the victim of a 2017 sexual assault.

Keizer Police were dispatched to the restaurant around 9:35 p.m. after Ebbs approached a table where the 20-year-old girl, her father and a third individual were sitting. Ebbs had been having dinner with the parents of the male suspect in that case and recognized the victim.

No, the male is NOT a suspect. He is the convicted perpetrator of this sexual assault and another one.

According to police, Ebbs “walked to where the woman was seated and began screaming at her, calling her various expletives attributable to Trisha Ebbs’ belief about the circumstances of the 2017 crime.”

The girl’s father pushed Ebbs and was then shoved by “a group of males” with her.

Witnesses told police that Ebbs was “on top of them.” The altercation ended when employees separated the group.

The relationship between Ebbs and the male suspect’s parents was not immediately known. According to police, the suspect, now 21, was charged and subsequently convicted as an adult for sexual assault against this woman and a second minor female in 2017.

Ebbs has been placed on administrative leave.



And, AS ALWAYS, let’s get the actual details of an American news story from the British press. Or at least the CCTV video and some frames from it. To which I added some identifying captions:

In the video at the link you can see Ebbs and the rapist’s mom coming back to their table, probably from a visit to the loo. She sees the victims at their table and charges right over and starts her rant, right in their faces. The victims father gets up and pushes her away, at which point the four males at Ebbs’ table mob the guy while Ebbs continues her tirade. Eventually the rapist’s mom comes over and shoos one of the guys away, presumably her husband. Then she picks up all their stuff, ready to beat a hasty exit.

I don’t have any details of the rape cases. Perhaps they were violent assaults, perhaps they were statutory offenses with eager willing “victim” participants.

NYC Subway Uprising: Antifa Ready To Destroy To Get More Fascism

Police in New York are increasing their presence in subways Friday after members of the far-left Antifa movement called for a mass protest against law enforcement and transit fares.

The Police Benevolent Association of New York City issued a strong warning ahead of Friday’s Antifa demonstration, urging New Yorkers to “pay close attention.”

“This is [the] true endgame of the anti-police movement, an end of all policing & destruction of public order,” the group said in a tweet. “Our members have spent their careers—and in some cases given their lives—to bring public safety back to NYC. We can’t go backwards.”

Days earlier, an Antifa-backed social media account shared a video of three masked individuals accompanied by a tweet that read: “The streets are ours. The trains our ours. The walls are ours. This moment is ours.”

The minute-long video showing individuals vandalizing public property and jumping subway turnstiles, calls for supporters of the group to “meet up” and rally against law enforcement and transit fares.

“We encourage you to link up with your friends, your family, and think of the ways you can move in affinity to build and f--- s--- up on J31 all day long,” an unidentified individual said, referencing Friday’s date.

Claiming racism, these fools want the subway to be free and unguarded, with the platforms open to any and all unlicensed vendors and street musicians. Result: instant filth, depravity, and violence. And if the subway is “free”, then the taxpayers will have to foot the bill. And that means an even larger level of government control. If that is even possible, seeing that the feds, the state, the city, and the private government called the MTA already have stringent oversight. Regulated to death and beyond. But that’s the built in hypocrisy of antifa: they claim to be against fascism, which is a form of oppressive heavy duty government, but what they really want is even more government. Violent nanny-staters. Petulant spoiled children crying for more mommy while pitching tantrums and hiding behind masks.

“The mood for J31 is simple: f--- your $2.75. No cops on the MTA, free transit, no harassment period and full accessibility… F--- the police.”

A Facebook group run by the same account shared an event that argued that the addition of 500 more MTA police officers is “a declaration of war against our communities.”

“That money should not be invested in the harassing and brutalizing of Black and brown folks. It should go toward making the MTA free, well maintained, and accessible to all.”

The group continued that it would use a “diversity of tactics” to have their demands met. These demands include eliminating police presence from the subways, free transit, ending the harassment of “vendors and performers” and “full accessibility for people of varying abilities.”

A spokesperson with the NYPD told Fox News in an email Friday morning that it “is aware of the demonstration and will have an adequate police presence in place.”

You know that they are “justified” in this protest; those poor “Black and brown folks” (brown folks don’t deserve a capital B I guess) are so harassed and brutalized; they already comprise about 85% of all fare jumpers. Pinko Mayor “Bill DeBlasio” (not his real name) has already decriminalized fare jumping.

Naturally, Democratic Socialist and anarcho-Marxist AOC supports them fully.

Is this uprising even happening, or is Fox News trying to push people’s panic button by raising a few Tweets from a bunch of jackwad teenagers to national news? Are they purposefully trying to make this happen by giving it front page press?

Irish Parents Convicted Of Female Genital Mutilation

Well, when I say Irish I really mean transplanted Somali jihadists, but let’s not let actual facts get in the way.

An African couple in Dublin has been convicted of having female genital mutilation (FGM) performed on their 21-month-old daughter, in the first such case in the Republic of Ireland.

A man and wife of African origin have been jailed after they “aided and abetted, counselled or procured” someone to perform female genital mutilation upon their 21-month-old daughter. The man has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years and his wife will serve a term of four years and nine months.

The couple, who will remain unnamed to protect the identity of the child, pleaded not guilty to procuring FGM, claiming in the trial that their daughter had suffered the injury as a result of falling onto a toy while not wearing a diaper, according to RTE.

Their version of events was disputed health professionals in the trial who argued that it was clearly a case of female genital mutilation. Sri Paran, the paediatric surgeon who performed surgery on the girl to stop the bleeding, said that the injury was not accidental.

Sentencing the African couple, Judge Elma Sheahan said that the child suffered an “appalling act of cruelty” in the “most egregious breach of trust by those presumed to be the protectors of their infant child”.

In October, Breitbart London reported that as many as 6,000 women and girls have had their genitals mutilated in Ireland, with another 3,000 currently at risk of having the gruesome procedure inflicted upon them.

You were allowed to stay here because you claimed your life was at risk there. If it’s safe enough for you to go back to set up an appointment with the village witch, then you no longer need asylum. Buh bye!!

If You’re This Unlearned You Shouldn’t Write The Rules

Pro-Second Amendment groups fighting gun control efforts in Virginia have seized on a video showing the author of a sweeping ban fumbling over defining the “assault weapons” he wants to outlaw.

In the video, Democratic Virginia Del. Mark Levine said the biggest difference between hunting rifles and “assault weapons” is “how you hold the gun.”

Speaking at a public meeting, the author of legislation to ban AR-style guns and large, bullet-holding magazines used in semi-automatic weapons also said shooters could use several fingers to pull the trigger and that deer know the sound of a bullet shot through a “silencer” better than humans.

As audience members were heard chuckling in the background, Levine said: “In terms of the differences of the guns, the heart of the difference is how you hold the gun. It makes it a semi-automatic.” He showed his trigger finger moving, and added, “Meaning you can shoot with each finger, not like a bolt-action” rifle typically used in hunting.

Maybe this was another “parody” in the Adam Schiff school of stand-up mode. What an idiot. BTW, this guy was one of the authors of the latest gun control bill working it’s way through the Virginia legislature.

“He knows nothing about what he’s trying to ban,” said Erich Pratt, senior vice president of Gun Owners of America. “Obviously, he’s watched too many movies,” he said, noting that semi-automatic rifles and bolt-action rifles are held the same way.

Phil Van Cleave, who heads the Virginia Citizens Defense League, said, “It’s clear that he’s way out of league, and he’s the one trying to make law.”

Levine did not respond to a request for comment.

Both VCDL and GOA organized this month’s massive pro-gun rally at the Virginia Capitol in Richmond.

While the new Democratic majority has pushed through several gun control measures, efforts to OK a ban on semi-automatic rifles have not moved forward.

Well, at least Levine didn’t mention the infamous and frightening “front part that goes up”.

And I have no idea why a Virginia town hall would be displaying “flags of all nations” but not the American flag nor the Virginia flag. Probably a bunch of anti-American One Worlder commies.

U.S. authorities discovered the longest smuggling tunnel ever found along the southwest border.

The tunnel originates in Tijuana, Mexico, near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry and extends a total of 4,309 feet long—more than three-quarters of a mile. The next longest tunnel in the U.S., discovered in San Diego in 2014, was 2,966 feet long.

“While subterranean tunnels are not a new occurrence along the California-Mexico border, the sophistication and length of this particular tunnel demonstrates the time-consuming efforts transnational criminal organizations will undertake to facilitate cross-border smuggling,” Cardell Morant, acting special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) San Diego, said in a press release. The investigation that led to the discovery spanned many years and involved various agencies.
A tunnel entry team agent stands by for security at a tunnel spur that went off into a different direction.

The tunnel features a complex cart and rail system, forced air ventilation, high-voltage electrical cables and panels, an elevator at the tunnel entrance and a complex drainage system, according to U.S. Border Patrol.

The tunnel is approximately 5 and a half feet tall, 2 feet wide and has an average depth of 70 feet from the surface. An offshoot of the main tunnel was discovered at around 3,500 feet into the U.S. It traveled several feet and came to an end without breaching the surface. It led agents back to the main tunnel where they discovered several hundred sandbags blocking the suspected former exit of the tunnel.

I don’t know what kind of soil this thing is in, but it’s entirely unbraced: no supports at all anywhere. And there is groundwater present.

Maybe they used children to haul their dope; I know that hole is too narrow and low for me. We’ll never know. Gah, you’d figure by now the DEA would have subterranean sensors all over the place down there. How did they never know this was being built or used?

Will It Actually Happen Tomorrow, Finally?

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage delivered his last-ever speech in Brussels as his Brexit Party MEPs waved their Union Jack flags in defiance of EU rules.

The Brexit Party leader launched a brutal attack on the bloc just days before the UK is due to leave on Friday, January 31.

He said: “This is it, the final chapter, the end of the road, a 47-year political experiment that the British have never been happy with.”

Mr Farage said the UK “is never coming back” as he gave his final speech at the European Parliament.

He added: “I’m not particularly happy with the agreement we’re being asked to vote on tonight but Boris has been remarkably bold in the last few months and, Ms von der Leyen, he’s promised us there will be no level playing field.

“What happens at 11pm this Friday, January 31 2020, marks the point of no return, once we’ve left we are never coming back and the rest, frankly, is detail.”

Earlier Mr Farage told reporters that he believes Brexit is the “beginning of the end” for the EU.

He said: “That’s because we made such a Horlicks of leaving.

“I think many of the Eurosceptic groups around Europe began to shake their heads and say ‘Oh, perhaps it is not possible to leave’.

“Now it’s actually happening, if we chart a clear path - and provided that Boris Johnson sticks to the very clear promises that he made in his manifesto - then I think all of that will change a couple of years down the line.”

So this is a kind of sorta-kinda situation? They’ll be out, free, but still have to negotiate a bunch of stuff for the next bunch of years? Whatever. Purge your nation, control your borders, and get your economy moving again. Best of luck!

I’m not the only one overreacting to the Wuhan thing

The whole damn world is going into lockdown, one small step at a time.

Air flights canceled. Borders closed. North Korea bans all foreigners from entering. Sporting events in Germany and Florida canceled. Schools shut down in China. Evacuees from China being sent to Isolation Island in Australia. Oil prices impacted.

Others say this is much ado about almost nothing; right wing tinfoil hat folks know this is a world-wide commie plot; a deliberate release of an engineered, weaponized, virus to ruin the global economy to take down Trump.
