I’m sure this is raycis too

Melanin Rich Fungi Eat Radiation At Chernobyl

A type of black fungi that eats radiation was discovered inside the Chernobyl nuclear reactor.

In 1991, the strange fungi was found growing up the walls of the reactor, which baffled scientists due to the extreme, radiation-heavy environment.

Researchers eventually realized that not only was the fungi impervious to the deadly radiation, it seemed to be attracted to it.

A decade later, researchers tested some of the fungi and determined that it had a large amount of the pigment melanin—which is also found, among other places, in the skin of humans.

People with darker skin tones tend to have much more melanin, which is known to absorb light and dissipate ultraviolet radiation in skin.

However in fungi, it reportedly absorbed radiation and converted it into some type of chemical energy for growth.

It’s a good bet that this kind of fungus is one of the earliest multi-cell lifeforms on earth, back from the early days when there wasn’t much atmosphere and the planet was a hot radioactive mess. And billions of years later they’re still here.

I wonder just how much radiation they can eat. Could they be used to clean up radioactive waste?

Ferals In The Subway: Lazy Racist Chicago Cops

11 “teens” Rob And Beat Elderly Man On Chicago Subway

I’m really peeved about this story. I’ll try not to go all “raycis” but no promises. Not only is this totally out of control, it’s totally common. “Dog bites man” is hardly even news, but this time it was a whole pack of dogs.

•  68 yo white man falls asleep on Chicago subway

•  feral teen girl tries to pick his pocket but he wakes up, tells her to buzz off

•  she comes back with 10 more ferals and they take turns beating him to a pulp

•  entire incident captured on CCTV

•  dozens of witnesses, but only one came forward

•  Chicago cops say they can’t prosecute

•  witness’s name released, but refused to give interview to news

CHICAGO—The brutal beating of a 68-year-old man by 11 teens on a passenger train here Monday was captured in a disturbing, graphic video obtained by Fox News.

The Chicago Police Department told Fox News the beating is under investigation, but no one is in custody because the victim “was unable to identify his attacker(s) due to his injuries.”

A police source told Fox that the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office “wouldn’t touch” the case if the victim can’t identify those accused or is unable to cooperate.

When reached about prosecuting the case, state’s attorney’s office responded: “We are unable to comment.”

The footage shows one of the female teens first trying to pickpocket the victim while he’s asleep. The man awakens, tries to fend off the teens, but the woman drags and beats the man.

She then appears to run to another car, and returns with a group of teens including five men and two women. They surround the man seated on the train.

One man pummels the victim, even lifting himself up on the train’s bars to repeatedly kick him in the upper body and face. The video also appears to show many bystanders failing to intervene.

...

A single witness is listed on the police report. Fox News has reached out to the witness and has not received comment.

Let’s see: 11 assailants but 5 of them are male and 3 of them are female including the pickpocket. I guess the other 3 were transgendered? Whatever.

And the beaten man, hospitalized, can’t ID the perps, so the cops won’t do a thing. Even though the entire thing is on CCTV. So what’s the point of having CCTV? And what about murders - the victim can’t identify the killers, so the cops can’t prosecute? That explains the insanely low arrest and conviction rate for murder in the Windy City.

The law has obviously failed. I think it’s Charles Bronson time.

built in weather report

Got up this morning and my knees were killing me. Arthritis they tell me, and it’s about time to get another round of those hylauronic acid shots, which really did the trick for about 6 months.

Anyway, they really bother me when it gets super cold, but they bother me more when it’s chilly, very moist, and the barometric pressure is dropping. All of which is what happens before a winter rain. It’s been rather damp here for several days, and now it’s pouring out. Funny thing, my knees feel better now that it’s raining. And I’m glad that it’s raining ... in February. This could have been a serious snow fall if it was colder, but we’re having a pretty mild winter here. Almost all the moisture that has fallen from the sky since the middle of December has been rain.

Ruh roh, the lights just blinked and dimmed. Better post this before the power blips off.

A Belated Thank You

I’d like to give a shout out and a big THANK YOU to reader Chris H, who made a donation to BMEWS back on New Year’s Day.

Thank you Chris, thank you very much.

I rarely use or check my Paypal account, and they don’t notify me when transactions occur. So please don’t feel that I’m a heartless so-and-so because I don’t get back to you right away. I know some people have been annoyed this way in the past, but that is not my intention.

All that being said, BMEWS is pretty well funded, and while I am accepting support, I am not asking for it. This is kind of a hobby blog, which is why I don’t usually have ads. That, and no advertisers contact me any more. So it’s kind of moot.

Anyway, our late blogger Peiper set this blog up financially for a number of years, so we’re pretty good. And your donation helps enlarge the funded timeline. So, thank you once again.

I may be inept, but I couldn’t find you in the membership database here based on the information that PayPal provided. ‘m more than happy to add you to the rolls if you aren’t in them already. And that means I’ll have to access the blog email account to find any contact you may have made. Which is something else that I rarely do. That account is a royal pain, usually filled with thousands of junk mails. But for you, I’ll look.

And A Plague On Both Your Houses

Africa Sucks

Good Weather Caused Giant Locust Swarm Devastating East Africa

Even when they win, they lose

Tearing across East Africa right now is a plague of biblical proportions: Hundreds of billions of locusts in swarms the size of major cities are laying waste to the crops in their path.
It’s the worst outbreak in 25 years in Ethiopia. In Kenya, make that the worst in seven decades.

Fueling the locusts’ destruction is a bounty of vegetation following unusually heavy rains. All that food means the landscape can support a huge number of rapidly breeding insects. And the problem is about to get a lot worse—the insect population could boom by a factor of 500 by June. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN is calling the situation in the Horn of Africa “extremely alarming,” and estimates that a swarm covering one square kilometer can eat as much food in a day as 35,000 humans. Farmers throughout East Africa now face food shortages, as the plague consumes both crops in the field and in storage.

Desert locusts only lay eggs in moist soil, to keep them from drying out. When heavy rains come in to saturate the desert, locusts—ever the opportunists—breed like mad and fill the soil with their eggs, perhaps 1,000 per square meter of soil. When those eggs hatch, they’ll have plenty of vegetation to eat, until things dry up once again.

As soon as things start getting crowded, desert locusts become gregarious and migrate away in search of more food.
...
These swarming grasshoppers love grains, a staple of the human diet. This is particularly threatening to farmers with depleted soils, because overgrazed lands tend to harbor more carbohydrate-rich species—grasses in particular are sapped of their protein as nitrogen washes out of overworked soil. It all but guarantees a swarm is going to make itself at home on somebody’s farm.
...
Water, another critical factor of locust biology, also helps explain why things are so bad in Africa right now. In 2018, the heavy rains that locusts crave came with two cyclones, in May and October, that made landfall in nearly the same place in the southern Arabian Peninsula. The May storm alone dumped enough water for desert vegetation to grow for six months, which is long enough for two generations of locusts to appear and explode their populations—fast.
...
Then the October cyclone added several more months’ breeding time.

Five Little Airplanes To Save Three Nations

As locusts by the billions — yes, billions — descend on parts of Kenya in the worst outbreak in 70 years, small planes are flying low over affected areas to spray pesticides in what experts call the only effective control.
...
Just five planes are currently spraying as Kenyan and other authorities try to stop the locusts from spreading to neighboring Uganda and South Sudan. The United Nations has said $76 million is needed immediately to widen such efforts across East Africa.

A fast response is crucial. Experts warn that if left unchecked, the number of locusts could grow by 500 times by June, when drier weather will help bring the outbreak under control.
...
n swarms the size of major cities, the locusts also have affected parts of Sudan, Djibouti and Eritrea, whose agriculture ministry says both the military and general public have been deployed to combat them.

Kenya’s agriculture minister has acknowledged that authorities weren’t prepared for the scope of the infestation this year. That’s not surprising, considering it’s been decades since the country’s last comparable outbreak, U.N. officials say.

The locusts also are heading toward the breadbasket of Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous country, in that nation’s worst outbreak in 25 years. On Thursday, startled residents of Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, started reported sightings of the insects.

I wonder what they’re spraying with. I bet DDT would work wonders.

Clean Warm Balls Are The Best

A bowling experiment, phase 1

image

Rejuvenation On The Cheap, And Getting Baked At Home

[ TLDR: this machine is NOT for plastic, rubber, or old school urethane balls. They do not absorb oil. Just wipe them down with alcohol, Windex, or your favorite ball cleaner ]

Bowling balls, plastic foam, and alley oil
Today’s crop of high performance bowling balls use a surface material commonly called reactive resin. This is a kind of open cell plastic foam. Similar to a Cheeto™ but much harder and finer. Similar to pumice or tufa, but much softer. The air pockets in the reactive resin are so small that you can’t see or feel them.

The idea of bowling a hook, which is what these balls are all about, is to skid-roll the ball down the front part of the lane where all the oil is, then get it to get traction in the dry part of the lane, where friction and the off center weighting of the ball will cause it to turn in and hit the pins at a sharper angle. That angle of contact is where strikes come from. Generally, the more traction the ball can get, the more it will hook, and the greater the contact angle the higher your chance of getting a strike.

The thing is, the open cell foam nature of these balls means that they absorb oil. Lots of it. There are all kinds of cleaners, but even used to obsessive excess all they can do is get the dirt and oil out of the first few layers of foam bubbles, perhaps a millimeter deep on the surface of the ball. The oil can be absorbed all the way through the coverstock, which is the bowling term for whatever the outside of the ball is made of.

Bowl enough with one of these balls and it dies; it becomes saturated with oil and hooks a whole lot less. You have to get the oil out somehow. But how? Heat. Getting the ball toasty warm opens up the foam cells, and all the oil rises to the surface where you can wipe it off. This is commonly referred to as baking your ball.  People who want to sell you a product or a service call it rejuvenation or revitalization.

Paying somebody else vs buying your own vs DIY methods
Every bowling alley has a ball guy working there. He’s the mechanic of the pro shop, who fits and drills your ball for you, and helps you maintain the thing. Most alleys have a “rejuvenator” machine in the back, which is a very expensive gizmo that will do the job, but you’ll pay for it. The thing is an industrial strength combination of hair dryer, wiping pads, and a 3 axis turntable. They cost $1700. No matter how much you wipe down your ball, if you bowl in leagues you’re going to pay them $25 at least 3 times a year to have your ball treated. That’s just how it is.

There are a nearly infinite number of posts online for DIY designs and methods. Some are simple, like putting your ball out in the summer sun, or leaving it in your closed car on a hot day. Or soaking the ball in a big bucket of hot soapy water. Or sticking it in the oven. Some of these work to an extent, some are weather dependent, and others (oven method) are very risky. Designs for heating machines run from “use a hair dryer and heat and wipe one small area at a time” to complex sous vide methods inside a modified picnic cooler.

There are also a fair number of personal ball reviver units for sale. These are generally of the bucket design, using a lid that has a hot air blower on it, and a container beneath it where the ball sits. They work pretty well, and cost somewhere between $190 and $250. So they pay for themselves in about 10 uses, compared to paying the pro shop. But most of them have shortcomings other than the expense. Some have no temperature controls. Some have no timer. Some don’t even have an ON/OFF switch. None of them lets you see the process in action, and few make it easy to get the ball out. Trust me, trying to lift a hot greasy bowling ball out of a deep narrow bucket is a challenge. You can buy a steam cleaning machine for $699.

The other downside to these devices is that they may run too hot. If you heat soak a bowling ball it will crack in half like an egg. The material in the middle of the ball expands thermally at a different rate than the stuff on the outside of the ball. Expose the ball to too much heat for too long, and it shatters. Period. Been there, done that. Some of these devices run at 135°F, which is a very effective temperature for oil removal, even though all the ball manufacturers warn you to never get the ball hotter than 125°F. Paint stripping guns and steam are much hotter than that. So you have to be very careful.

Bored yet? No? Good! On to the good part!
The ball reviver devices you can buy are all based on food dehydraters. Seriously, they’re the same device, except perhaps for the bucket part. Except the thing sold as a ball cleaner costs many times as much.

So I went and found a food dehydrator that is big enough to hold a bowling ball, has a timer, a temperature control, an ON/OFF switch, lets me see the ball, and is easy to get the ball in and out. It cost me $78. And it works like a charm.

image

I took out all the drying trays, put a dinner plate in the bottom to catch any drips, put the ball on a spray can cap and had a go. I put the probe to my precision grilling thermometer inside just to check, and found their temperature settings were accurate enough. At 112° the oil started coming up, so I wiped it down after 15 minutes. At 122°F the oil really came up, so I wiped it down, gave the ball a rubdown with alcohol, let that dry, then used a spritz of my favorite ball cleaner. Wiped that dry and gave it another go in the unit. After about 50 minutes total, not much more oil was coming up, so I called it done and gave the ball a good buff with a microfiber towel. And it’s now clean.

One thing I did notice, that while overall the ball’s coverstock was fairly evenly heated, the side that faced the hot air fan was a little hotter. Duh, right? So I’m going to pick up a little heavy duty powered turntable and put that in, so the ball will get perfectly even exposure on all sides to the heat. That will be Phase 2 of the experiment, as there are a couple of different powered turntables on the market, and while a small tall one might bring the ball up to just the right height in front of the fan and leave lots of room for air circulation, a larger lower turntable might be more stable and durable in the heated environment. Plus I have to build some kind of stand for the ball that’s sturdy enough to take the weight in the heat, open enough to allow the hot air to get to every inch of the ball, and small enough to not get in the way. Best price would be free, with zero work. I’m thinking an upside down “pizza table” might do the job, or 3 short vertical dowels mounted to a thin disc of wood. I have some take-out chopsticks around here somewhere. Phase 3 might be figuring out how to mount the turntable inside permanently, with some kind of IEC power socket or one of those snap together zip cord grommets.

Bottom line: I think I can put together off the shelf parts and make my own ball rejuvenation oven for about half the price of the ones sold, which will do a better job and have none of the shortcomings. That’s a win in my book.

Minor update: At a risk of a fate worse than death, I ran her ball through the process. After taking off quite a bit of oil at the 112° and 122° levels, each 30 minutes long, I did a 45 minute cycle at 131°, turning the ball every 15 minutes. And 2 or 3 tablespoons more oil came out, some dripping right off the ball. That’s an incredible amount, given that dressing an entire bowling lane only uses about a shotglass full of oil. She had an entire lane’s worth hiding deep down. And I probably could have taken more, but I got nervous. If I split her ball in half the day before league, I’d never hear the end of it. PS - I didn’t know that lane oil was purple. Huh.

image

Phase 2: Positive Rotation

image

I got the Homend 10” powered lazy susan turntable from Amazon. It fits inside the New House Kitchen 9 Tray Dehydrator Machine just fine. The power cord is fairly flat, and fits under the door well enough so that I don’t think I’m going to bother to modify the NHK machine in any way to run the cord through the wall. According the the Homend papers, the turntable should not be used in situations warmer that 45°C - 113°F - but I ran it for 2 hours last night at 131°F without any problems at all. [ perhaps the dinner plate provides some shielding, or the table’s low height keeps it under the air flow ] It rotates the ball about once every 45 seconds, so the ball gets very evenly heated. I set the cycle time to 30 minutes, and gave the ball a quarter turn clockwise every 10 minutes, just in case it was much hotter at the top of the chamber. It isn’t really, but I’m playing it safe. The dinner plate catches any oil that might drip, and the spray can cap works so perfectly that I don’t think I’m going to build an open 3 post support out of dowels. There’s no point.

I want to point out that the additional expense of a powered turntable only adds a moderate amount of effectiveness and hardly any additional ease of use. In other words, if you reach in the cabinet every 15 minutes and give the ball a little spin clockwise and a third of a turn horizontally, then there is no need to spend the extra money on the turntable. If you go that route, I would suggest making a taller ball support than just the spray can cap on a plate. Getting the ball vertically centered in the air stream seems like a smart move. Maybe you can find a short bit of 3” PVC pipe lying around, or make a stand with some 1/2” dowels and a bit of board. Go this minor DIY route and you can save $110 compared to the least expensive machine on Amazon. Just make sure to give your stand a large base plate (use a $2 nylon tiny cutting board perhaps) because the drip tray that comes with the dehydrator is not built to carry a heavy load in a small area. Spread the weight out and it’s stable and secure.

With this latest set up, the ball is almost perfectly centered in front of the heating fan in the back of the cabinet. Overall this combination works beautifully, and I was able to extract a good bit more oil from my ball. Since oil will quickly come up even at the lowest heat settings, and I’ve now deep cleaned both our strike balls, my plan is to use this thing for 15-30 minutes at the 113° or 121° setting after every league night. A quick wipe down with paper towels and alcohol, into the machine for a quickie, go over it with a fluffy microfiber towel, and another wipe with alcohol. And the ball should stay really clean. Which means it should hook at its full potential.

Final Bottom Line: No DIY work needed at all. I put together 2 existing inexpensive products with no modification. Added a dinner plate and a spray can cap. The result works as well or better than any machine you can buy, is easy to use and fully adjustable, and I still saved $75 compared to the least expensive rejuvenator on the market. Win. Done. Buh bye!

More Evidence That Trump Is A Racist

OrangeManBad because he’s sooo raycis!! He’s always going on about how all those undocumented international visitors are criminals!! Bad bad bad! Raycis!!

From the local NJ news -

Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the arrests of more than 100 foreign nationals in New Jersey, many of them with criminal records, in a nearly week-long sweep of the state.

From Jan. 27 to Feb. 1, ICE arrested 115 people from 23 countries.

Of those arrested, 84% had prior criminal convictions and/or pending criminal charges, and three of them were previously deported, according to ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in a written statement.

A person who illegally re-enters the United States after being deported can face up to 20 years in federal prison, according to ICE officials.

At least three of the people arrested had been accused or convicted of murder in their native country, also according to ICE.

ICE provided some details on the arrests:
— A 53-year-old Brazilian national, wanted on a warrant for homicide in Brazil, was arrested in Newark.
— A 28-year-old Salvadoran national, who has a pending homicide case in El Salvador, was arrested in Elizabeth.
— A 60-year-old previously deported Mexican national, previously convicted of homicide, was arrested in Glassboro.
— A 31-year-old previously deported Guatemalan national, previously convicted of domestic violence and DUI, was arrested in Plainfield.
— A 46-year-old previously deported Mexican national, convicted of criminal sexual contact involving a minor, was arrested in West Milford.

Those arrested by ICE agents in New Jersey were from the following countries:
— 32 people from Mexico
— 16 people from Guatemala
— 12 people from El Salvador
— 9 people from Dominican Republic
— 9 people from Ecuador
— 9 people from Honduras
— 4 people from Brazil
— 3 people from Colombia
— 2 people each from Costa Rica, Cuba, India, Jamaica, Peru, Poland and Spain
— 1 person each from Argentina, Bolivia, Ghana, Nigeria, Panama, Philippines, United Kingdom and Venezuela

Convictions and pending charges of those arrested include homicide, sexual assault on a minor, child abuse, drug possession or distribution, domestic violence, theft, robbery, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, assault by auto, receiving stolen property, shoplifting, burglary and illegal reentry.

YUGE news

TRUMP NOT GUILTY

image

The Senate overwhelmingly acquitted President Trump on both articles of impeachment against him Wednesday afternoon following a brief trial, in a historic rejection of Democrats’ claims that the president’s Ukraine dealings and handling of congressional subpoenas merited his immediate removal from office.

All Democratic senators supported convicting the president of abuse of power and obstruction of justice, including swing-vote moderate Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., and Doug Jones, D-Ala.

The only party defection was on the abuse of power charge from Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, who declared hours before the final vote that Trump had engaged in as “destructive an attack on the oath of office and our Constitution as I can imagine.” Romney voted not guilty on the obstruction charge.

By a final vote of 52-48 against conviction on the abuse of power charge and 53-47 on the obstruction charge, the Senate fell far short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict and remove the president. Swing-vote Republican senators—including Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, and Lamar Alexander of Tennessee—voted to acquit on both counts.

Also ahead of the vote, Republican and Democratic leaders addressed the Senate. McConnell warned of “truly dangerous” Democratic partisans, saying they insist on taking down institutions that do not produce the outcomes they desire.

“This partisan impeachment will end today,” McConnell said. “But, I fear the threat to our institutions may not. Normally, when a party loses an election, it accepts defeat. ... But not this time.”

Instead, McConnell went on, top Democrats—including Hillary Clinton and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.—have already preemptively challenged the validity of the 2020 presidential election, and blamed their loss on unsubstantiated claims that the president’s campaign colluded with Russians.

Minutes earlier, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., slammed the Senate trial as a “kangaroo court” and a “sham.”

Romney is a McCain level douchebag. Hope he gets primaried out ASAP. He’s an intractable Democrat, just like the rest of them. Vote them all the Hell out of office.

And don’t think for a minute this is the end of their temper tantrum. Oh Hella No.

Is it reprisal time yet?

Turkish Plane Smashed After Landing In Rain And Not Stopping
21 injured, small fire, no fatalities

image

And OF COURSE it’s a Boeing 737-800.

A plane has split wide open after crashing and bursting into flames.

The incident has injured 21 people after the Boeing 737-800 skidded off the runway at Sabiha Gokcen airport in Istanbul, according to Turkish officials.

It landed in wet weather, and was carrying 177 passengers and six crew members.

There have been no fatalities reported so far, Turkish Transport Minister Cahit Turhan said.

The condition of those injured is not known at this stage.

Shocking footage shows passengers evacuating the Pegasus Airlines plane through cracks in the fuselage.
...
It was a domestic flight within Turkey.

and the Dems go nuts last night and the morning after

It just goes on and on. The incoherent rabid hatred of our President from the lunatic Left never ends.

Several unhinged Dems “stormed” out of the speech last night, including Rancid tLabia because Trump’s message of unity, exceptionalism, economic prosperity, national security, hope for the future, etc was just “so fake”. Seriously.

AOC couldn’t even bring herself to go, boycotting the event but apparently watching every second of it. She’s having a tizzy over Rush getting the Medal of Freedom, saying how that cheapens this high honor. Granted, President Trump could have bestowed it at a separate ceremony, but doing it during the SOTU forced every media outlet to show it, instead of burying on page 87 and pretending it didn’t happen. But regarding cheapening the thing, how convenient that she seems to have forgotten that Obama awarded one to Joe Biden for ... being Joe Biden. Worse, Obama gave him the award “with distinction” which is an even higher level of honor.  Creepy Uncle Joe was so overcome with emotion at the time that the truth came out by accident, as he repeatedly said he didn’t deserve the medal.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., slammed Rush Limbaugh, who was recently was diagnosed with cancer, as a “racist” on social media late Tuesday, saying he “cheapens” the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

AOC didn’t attend President Trump’s State of the Union address, claiming it would have legitimized what she saw as lawless conduct under his administration. But she offered her thoughts on Limbaugh receiving the honor to her 4.2 million Instagram followers with a streaming video.

“First of all, the Presidential Medal of Freedom is an extraordinarily sacred award. We’re talking about putting someone on the same level as Rosa Parks, for example, in terms of their contributions to American progress,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Rush Limbaugh is a violent racist.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Rush Limbaugh “is a violent racist” and “cheapens” the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Rush Limbaugh “is a violent racist” and “cheapens” the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“To do it in the middle of a State of the Union, and not even dignify it with its own ceremony, as it has, there is all sorts of norms that are being violated,” she said. “Not just for people’s humanity but also, it truly just cheapens the value of it.”

Meathead and other Hollywood idiots are shooting their moronic mouths off today too. They aren’t worth quoting or linking to.

And a large part of normal America is utterly aghast at Speaker Pelosi’s petulant act of tearing up her copy of the speech, which could have been the one delivered to her as tradition demands for the Congressional Record. Contemptuous bitch.

Not that she was alone in her classless disruptive behavior last night. Fred Guttenberg, anti-2A zealot got himself tossed from the event, and the Witches In White tried to start up something at one point, each waving 3 raised fingers, but the President talked right over them and they quickly shut down. I gather this was in support of “the Elijah Cummings Bill” HR3, which is supposed to address the high cost of prescription drugs in the country ... drugs perhaps covered by ObamaCare, or President Bush’s prescription drug plan? Or perhaps falling under President Trump’s mention of his push for lower drug costs? Seems like a meaningless disruptive act to me, when the President is already behind the idea.

When President Donald Trump called on Congress during his State of the Union speech to send him legislation to lower prescription drug prices, House Democrats had a ready response.

The President was highlighting his work taking on “big pharmaceutical companies.” He said his administration approved a record number of affordable generic drugs and the FDA was approving new medicines faster than ever before. Trump also said the cost of prescription drugs decreased for the first time in 51 years.

It was when Trump asked for bipartisan support for lowering drug prices that the Democrats stood up in protest.

“I am calling for bipartisan legislation that achieves the goal of dramatically lowering prescription drug prices, Trump said. “Get a bill to my desk, and I will sign it into law without delay.”

Democrats got on their feet, raised three fingers and chanted “H.R. 3! H.R. 3!” referring to the late Rep. Elijah Cummings bill on drug pricing. Many democrats also yelled “You lie!” The bill was passed by the House in December on a largely party-line vote, but has remained untouched in the Republican-controlled Senate.

So the President, acting in a bipartisan way in support of the American people, calls on the Republican controlled Senate to urge this bill on, yet the Democrats felt the need to protest that, yelling out that he was a liar for supporting their own bill. You can’t win with these idiots.
Granted, having the federal government “negotiate” with Big Pharma [ “nice corporation you’ve got here, would be a shame if anything happened to it” ] strikes of fascism, being antithetical to the whole concept of free market captialism ... another thing the Left is against.

SOTU Homerun

President Trump delivered the greatest State Of The Union address tonight that I’ve even seen. Out of the ballpark grand slam, while Nazi Pelousy sat behind him sucking lemons, dramatically ripping her copy of the speech in half at the end.

“You attack our citizens, you forfeit your life. “ Oh F//// Yeah!!!

And the bitter partisan Dems, sitting there in their idiotic Handmaiden white suits, wouldn’t applaud a single pro-American statement. Not even for the little black girl from Philly who Trump found a scholarship for so she wouldn’t lose out because the fools in PA did education cutbacks and she got wait-listed. They wouldn’t even clap for God. They suck.

And of course, Melania looked perfect.

Iowa head shaker

Booty gig and the old commie are way out in front. Fauxcahontas a distant 3rd. Creepy Joe way way way behind in 4th, a few points ahead of Klobuchar?

Yang is first amongst the losers with an awesome 1.1%. Big fat ZERO for Bloomberg and the rest.

It will probably take days to finalize everything and actually award delegates.

alternate reality

I love how country music so often speaks to real life. The life you get, not necessarily the one you dreamed of

just weathering things

Boy this is some awful winter we’re having. Um, no, not really. It’s been pretty mild since before Christmas. Today, in the dead of winter, it might as well be spring.

It’s the 4th of February, it’s 58° out, and I’ve got the heat off and the windows open, getting some fresh air in here.

I know it won’t last, but gosh. Thank you, I’ll take it.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
