SNOFU

Yep. Situation Normal, Obama F*cked UP.

If I ever needed any single proof that Professor Obama is clueless about the real world, this is the proof I would offer. He has no idea of the purpose of insurance.

Did you get it? The ‘Acme’ insurance ‘laughed’ at him for one reason. He, I assume, only bought liability insurance. Maybe they teach something different in Ivy League schools, but reputable financial advisors all say buy only the insurance you need. Beat-up clunker=liability only.

In my case, I carry more than the legal minimum insurance. Why? Despite the fact that I do drive a 15-yr-old clunker, I personally have acquired other assets over the years. I don’t want those assets targeted in case I’m at fault in an accident. Note: this is liability insurance. I don’t carry collision or other. It’s not about getting my old car fixed. That’s why the guy that rear-ends me better have insurance. It’s his liability.

Insurance is sold for one, and only one, reason. It is an attempt to indemnify yourself against catastrophic financial liability. It is NOT sold to fix your beat-up clunker, or your sick child. Insurance can’t do that. It just transfers money to the insured from others who’ve paid into the same insurance pool. It is hoped that your insurance company can recoup such payouts by getting the money back from those responsible for the loss. In the event that the company can’t recoup the losses, your premiums go up.

Most people understand this.

What really pisses me off is that The One thinks that the American people are dumb enough to believe Him.

Sadly, I’m afraid He’s right.

How’s that hopenchange working for you now UK?

Remember a year and a half ago, before Onumbnuts was elected, how the UK was absolutely gaga for him? It wasn’t even their election, yet they were all having shuddering orgasms left and right over Buraq’s utter brilliance, his stupendous intellect, his magnificent ideas, and all that rot.

And as soon as he got into the White House, the dissing started. Priceless bust of Churchill? No, we don’t want that, take it home with you. Hey Queenie, give me five, here’s a hug from my wife, and some special priceless gifts - an iPod full of O’s speeches, and an armload of DVDs from the K-Mart bargain bin that won’t even play on UK machines. Oh, and let me tell the world that Great Britain, our #1 ally for over 100 years, is nothing special. And, oh so sorry, he was just too tired to greet your PM. Yours is just another country, no better than Rhaggedhola or Turdistan. Diss, diss, diss, and a bitch slap. Consider yourselves lucky that he didn’t send Brown out the backdoor with the trash, like he did the Dalai Lama.

Hope folks are waking up over there. Suckas. Hey, here’s another smack upside the head for y’all ...

US refuses to endorse British sovereignty in Falklands oil dispute

Washington refused to endorse British claims to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands yesterday as the diplomatic row over oil drilling in the South Atlantic intensified in London, Buenos Aires and at the UN.

Despite Britain’s close alliance with the US, the Obama Administration is determined not to be drawn into the issue. It has also declined to back Britain’s claim that oil exploration near the islands is sanctioned by international law, saying that the dispute is strictly a bilateral issue.

This is what we call “voting Present”.

Senior US officials insisted that Washington’s position on the Falklands was one of longstanding neutrality. This is in stark contrast to the public backing and vital intelligence offered by President Reagan to Margaret Thatcher once she had made the decision to recover the islands by force in 1982.

“We are aware not only of the current situation but also of the history, but our position remains one of neutrality,” a State Department spokesman told The Times. “The US recognises de facto UK administration of the islands but takes no position on the sovereignty claims of either party.”

“Longstanding neutrality”? Yeah, since about January 20, 2009.

And here’s another funny thing. That little tinpot marxist thug down in coca land, Hugo “blame the joos” Chavez, just shot his mouth off about the Falklands the day before.

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has demanded Britain’s Queen Elizabeth return the Falkland Islands to Argentina.

The president made a direct plea to the UK during his weekly television and radio show ‘Alo Presidente’, in which he encouraged South America to rally behind a campaign to give the islands - a British overseas territory located off the South East Coast of Argentina, called ‘Las Malvinas’ in Spanish - to Argentina.

He said: “Look, England, how long are you going to be in Las Malvinas? Queen of England, I’m talking to you. The times for empires are over, haven’t you noticed? Return the Malvinas to the Argentine people.”

Sovereignty of the Falklands was contested in 1982 when the islands were invaded by Argentine forces, sparking a war against the British, which was resolved by June 1982 when the British reclaimed the islands.

Hugo later added to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “The English are still threatening Argentina. Things have changed. We are no longer in 1982. If conflict breaks out, be sure Argentina will not be alone like it was back then.”

Huh. Imagine that. The POTUS echoing the views of a puffed up little south of the border socialist dictator.  Who would have ever expected that?

Who would have ever expected the POTUS to turn his back on both our #1 and #2 allies?

I expected it. Hate to say “I toldya so”, but ... there it is. And you know what makes it even worse? He’s likely one of your citizens, not ours.

I bet you guys are really thrilled to have all your troops over in Afghanistan, helping America fight her wars, what what?

Europeans resist Obama on Gitmo prisoners.

I’ve done a bit of chopping here at a site of German origin.  Pretty interesting I think.  Europeans been on us (USA) to close Gitmo like it’s their damn business. So ok, bad move I think but Barry says he’ll close. Any takers for the prisoners?  Uh huh.  Right.  Some lip service maybe.

Trans-Atlantic Relations

Europeans still resisting Obama over Guantanamo inmates

European countries on the whole are still reluctant to take in detainees from Guantanamo Bay despite the best persuasive efforts of the United States. While some have grudgingly agreed to help, others still resist.

One of the major obstacles in finally closing the book on the military prison in Cuba is the White House’s struggle to convince foreign governments to accept detainees.

Obama had promised to close the facility during his first year in office but that deadline passed in January. At the time of the deadline passing, 192 detainees remained at the much-criticized camp, with fewer than 50 inmates having left Cuba since Obama took office.

While canvassing for host nations has been worldwide, the Obama administration has specifically concentrated its powers of persuasion on its allies in Europe. However, Obama has yet to charm many in Europe into accepting detainees.

the US says it would be really grateful if the Europeans help, and on the other it says, ‘well, you told us to sort out this mess, now help us to sort it out’. Mostly the Americans are making it very clear that any help will be much appreciated.”

Despite being given the chance to curry favor with Washington, European governments on the whole are reluctant to help, although some have grudgingly pledged to assist. Some of those who have agreed to take in Guantanamo detainees have preferred not to advertise the fact.

Bye Bye Barry

Why wait? Indonesia to tear down Li’l Obama statue before TOTUS visits

A statue of US President Barack Obama as a boy will be removed from a park in the Indonesian capital due to public opposition, officials said Friday, just weeks before Obama visits his old hometown.

The Jakarta governor’s office confirmed that the two-metre (six-foot) bronze would be removed from Menteng Park and placed at the nearby Menteng One primary school where Obama spent part of his childhood in the late 1960s.

image

The decision comes after 56,500 people joined a page on social networking website Facebook calling for the statue to be removed and replaced by a memorial to an Indonesian identity.

Indonesia put the thing up as an attempt to form a cargo cult. Since it didn’t work, and not a single extra dime has come their way since the inauguration, they’ve given up. The statue will be moved to a schoolyard, where specially trained pigeons will roost on it. Yeah, roost. That’s what they’ll do. Fer Shure. LOL

SOTU? STFU!

O - pen thread

In case anyone forced themselves to watch the State of the Union address and feels the need to vent their spleen. Have at it!

image

I didn’t watch it. Instead I caught the premier of the new Caprica series on ScyFy from the other night via the On Demand thingy on my cable TV. It took me most of the first episode to understand what was going on there in future world and it’s virtual reality, but then when daddy zapped his dead daughter’s v-doppleganger to steal her data, I KNEW it was going to go into his company’s RoboCop that is lacking a decent “meta-cerebral processor”. The plot thins ... after 40 minutes. Meta-cerebral processor? “Oh we could while away the hours, conferrin’ with the flowers, consultin’ with the rain. And my head I’d be scratchin’ while my thoughts were busy hatchin’, if I only had a brain.” Yeah, I think we’ve seen this motif once or twice before. wink But I like the “twist”: Christians, or moral monotheists at least, are the rebel underground. This could be interesting.

Michelle Malkin is covering the SOTU, so you can get highlights there. Guarantee that the whole speech is already up on YouTube, and that most online news sites have the transcript available. You know, just in case either you need a good derisive laugh, or your blood pressure is too low.

EU LAW CHIEF SAYS BRITS MUST PAY BENEFITS TO FAMILY AND WIVES OF TERRORISTS.

Betcha many Brits would just love to whack this bleeding heart.  Hell, I’m not a Brit and I’d like to.  I kinda doubt the Brit govt. bad though it is, will go along.  But who knows?  The govt. is one of the left and nothing they do would surprise anyone anymore.
Just another nail in coffin of the UKs sovereignty if they approve this opinion.

Yes I know I keep banging on and repeating myself on the subject but .... Keep ur eyes opened America, and clean ur ears.  There are folks at home who are very happy to give up some American sovereignty in exchange for what they think is world harmony and peace etc.  You won’t find em on the right so that should narrow the field a bit.

Meanwhile txpayers, chew on this excerpt from my embassy newsletter.

New USAID Chief Dr. Rajiv Shah, Sees U.S. Forging Deeper Partnerships Overseas

Shah says the U.S. government now wants to give foreign countries more control over how American aid is spent. But, he also says measures will be in place to make sure that money is used wisely. “As we, and if we, give up control to some extent in order to support country leadership, we should have high standards and we should have strong ability to track outcomes to monitor resources and how they flow and to ensure that we’re generating real results in a sustainable way for American taxpayers,” he said.

USAID currently provides $20 billion in annual aid to development projects around the world. The Obama administration plans to expand that to $50 billion a year by 2012 for healthcare, education and agriculture.

(THAT’S FIFTY FREEKIN BILLION DOLLARS BUT HELL.  WHO’S COUNTING?)

By William Ide
VOA News

The U.S. Agency for International Development has sworn in a new administrator, Dr. Rajiv Shah, at a ceremony January 7 in Washington. In an exclusive interview with Voice of America, Shah talked about the Obama administration’s plans to deepen its partnerships overseas and listen more to the countries the agency serves.

A 36-year-old medical doctor by training, Shah comes to USAID with expertise in agriculture. He previously served as the director of agricultural development with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and later in a top post at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

But, he says, the mission of USAID is his passion.

As a son of Indian immigrants, Shah says that he started visiting India and other parts of the world at a young age and saw firsthand the kind of extreme conditions of poverty and human suffering that exist across the globe. “The opportunity to join an agency that has as its core mission working on that problem, working in a way that it’s respectful of the people who live in those environments and learns from them, is a great, great honor,” he said.

As head of USAID, Shah says he plans to hire several hundred new development experts and individuals with technical expertise to expand the agency’s work capacity.

Very busy next several hours so I’ll leave you with this article I just found in our paper.  Madness! Lunacy! MOONBATS everywhere.

WIVES OF TERRORISTS MUST GET THEIR BENEFITS BACK:  IT’S A HUMAN RIGHT, SAYS EURO LAW CHIEF.

By James Slack
Last updated at 7:02 AM on 15th January 2010

Wives of suspects who Britain says have links to Osama bin Laden have appealed against Treasury restrictions

Europe’s law chief wants Britain to reinstate the payment of tens of thousands of pounds in State handouts to the wives of suspected Al Qaeda and Taliban fanatics.

Ministers have halted benefit payouts made to the families of suspected terrorists to prevent the money falling into the hands of banned groups.

The Treasury says the power is a vital weapon in the war against terrorism. It stems from a crackdown on terrorist financing launched in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

However, the senior advocate of the European Court of Justice, Paolo Mengozzi, yesterday declared the decision to stop the payments was unfair on the grounds of human rights.

His opinion is likely to prove crucial when Europe’s highest court considers three test cases brought by the wives of British-based terror suspects later this year.

In eight out of every ten cases, the court has agreed with the Advocate General - making it highly likely the UK taxpayer will soon begin forking out hundreds of pounds a week to the families.

Whitehall officials have refused to name the families involved in the test cases - but all three of the husbands are foreign nationals on the United Nations list of international terror suspects.

They have been linked by security officials to Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden and the Taliban

The payouts to their wives include income support, child benefit and housing assistance worth ‘several hundred’ pounds a week.

Last night, campaign groups said it would be outrageous for the European courts to once again water down Britain’s anti-terror laws.

Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: ‘It is absurd that this unaccountable European court is trying to dictate to the British Government how we spend our own money. British taxpayers are already sick of bankrolling the lifestyles of people who preach hate against our country, and there is no way that they should be able to fund their activities or their families through milking the welfare system.

‘Whether you agree with the judgment or not, it is a choice that should be made by our country, not these lawyers who are answerable to nobody.’

Under the Treasury’s rules, social security payments cannot be made available ‘directly or indirectly, to, or for the benefit of’ anyone who is on the UN terrorism sanctions list.

This has been applied to the wives of as many as ten terror suspects, who have been hit with licences restricting their access to state funds.

In the case due before the EU court, the three women claim this amounts to a violation of their human right to a family life.

Their first appeal was rejected. But in a second appeal to the House of Lords, Britain’s highest court, judges had concerns about how the law was being applied.

In April 2008, they asked the European Court of Justice to provide a ruling.

Any decision by the European court, which is expected to issue a final judgment in three to six months, will be binding on the House of Lords and on courts throughout the EU.

In advance of this decision, Mr Mengozzi issued a 26-page written opinion in which he argued the phrase ‘directly or indirectly, to, or for the benefit of’ suspected terrorists was very widely drawn.

He acknowledged that the payments made to the wives could benefit their husbands, but disputed whether those benefits could easily be converted into funds to finance terrorism.

Mr Mengozzi advised the European Court of Justice to rule that the extra restrictions were unjustified and violated the right to respect for family life.

Earlier this week, the European Court of Human Rights dealt a separate blow to UK anti-terror policy when it ruled the stopping and searching of suspects without grounds for suspicion was unlawful.

The searches had been a key plank of policing for over a decade.

Obama Does Something Right

White House Ignoring CAIR Bluff. So Far.

image

Myth Of The Anti-Muslim Backlash

By PAUL SPERRY, Investors Business Daily

The Council on American-Islamic Relations warns that making an issue of Islamic terror incites “hate crimes” against innocent Muslims, but federal data disprove that. And commendably, the Obama administration is ignoring the Islamist pressure group’s latest bluff.

The White House has added top CAIR donor Saudi Arabia to a list of 14 mostly Muslim nations whose travelers will undergo extra airport-security screening in the wake of the Christmas Day airliner attack by a Muslim passenger. CAIR slammed the new policy as “across-the-board profiling” and griped “Muslims will pay the price for this one.”

That’s standard post-Islamic-terror bluster by CAIR, which remains under a cloud of terror suspicion itself following its 2007 federal designation as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror finance case in U.S. history. The group is quick to argue that increased security only serves to demonize innocent Muslims and put a bull’s-eye on their backs.

But it’s a red herring, and one that can have the dangerous effect — designed or not — of taking authorities off the scent of radical Muslims.

Not only are anti-Islamic hate crimes way down, but they’re a fraction of overall religious hate crimes. FBI data show the overwhelming majority of such crimes target Jews, something CAIR and other Muslim groups don’t seem all that concerned about.

In 2008, a whopping 67% of religiously motivated attacks were against Jews, while just 7% targeted Muslims — even though the Jewish and Muslim populations are comparable in size. Even Christians, at 9%, account for a higher share of victims.

What’s more, anti-Islamic hate crimes are actually declining. In the most recent year, they totaled 105. While just one anti-Muslim hate crime is one too many, that’s a 9% decrease from 2007, a 33% drop from 2006, and a 78% plunge from 2001.

And again, the number is minuscule compared with the 1,013 offenses against Jews, up 5% from 2007. For every attack on a Muslim in this country, there are 10 against a Jew — attacks such as the recent fatal stabbing of a Jewish professor by a Muslim graduate student at New York’s Binghamton University.

Horry Clap, that’s my alma mater. I must have missed this on the news back in December.

• Sperry, formerly IBD’s Washington bureau chief, is a Hoover Institution media fellow and author of “Infiltration.” His latest book is ”Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America.

A Big Waste Of Carbon

COP15 Climate Conference Generates Nothing But Hot Air

like you thought it would do anything else??

image

Oh sure, the caption says somebody is reaching to shake his hand.

But it sure looks like he just got bitch slapped in Denmark again, don’t it?

Obama Goes 0 for 2 in Copenhagen

or should that be CO for 2?

The UN climate summit reached a weak outline of a global agreement last night in Copenhagen, falling far short of what Britain and many poor countries were seeking and leaving months of tough negotiations to come.

After eight draft texts and all-day talks between 115 world leaders, it was left to Barack Obama and Wen Jiabao, the Chinese premier, to broker a political agreement. The so-called Copenhagen accord “recognises” the scientific case for keeping temperature rises to no more than 2C but did not contain commitments to emissions reductions to achieve that goal.

American officials spun the deal as a “meaningful agreement”, but even Obama said: “This progress is not enough.”

“We have come a long way, but we have much further to go,” he added.

The deal was brokered between China, South Africa, India, Brazil and the US, but late last night it was still unclear whether it would be adopted by all 192 countries in the full plenary session.

The agreement aims to provide $30bn in funding for poor countries to adapt to climate change from next year to 2012, and $100bn a year after 2020.

That translates as “bribes for tyrants”.

But it disappointed African and other vulnerable countries who had been holding out for far deeper emission cuts to hold the global temperature rise to 1.5C this century.

That translates as “the bribes for tyrants were not big enough”.

The agreement also set up a forestry deal which is hoped would significantly reduce deforestation in return for cash.

That translates as “bribes for tyrants who have trees”.

It lacked the kind of independent verification of emission reductions by developing countries that the US and others demanded.

Well no shit. What, you expected them to actually do something with the money, and let you look?

Obama hinted that China was to blame for the lack of a substantial deal.

Why, was Bush in China this week?

And the real big money quote is .... [drum roll please] ...

Lumumba Di-Aping, chief negotiator for the G77 group of 130 developing countries, said the deal had “the lowest level of ambition you can imagine. It’s nothing short of climate change scepticism in action. It locks countries into a cycle of poverty for ever. Obama has eliminated any difference between him and Bush.

Obama is Bush! Oh the irony is just too much. So does this mean that Obama is thus Hitler? No, because at least Hitler came home with the Olympics.

Crap, he isn’t even a palindrome!

Ignore all the gas crap and just look at how the stupid car buyer got taken to the cleaners:

If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you get $4500 off for an apparent “savings” of $1000.

However, you have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th (something that no auto dealer will tell you).  If you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will pay $1350 on that $4500.

So, rather than save $1000, you actually pay an extra $350 to the feds.  In addition, you traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now you have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, that was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now be making.

But wait; it gets even better:  you also got ripped off by the dealer.

For example, every dealer here in LA was selling the Ford Focus with all the goodies, including A/C, auto transmission, power windows, etc for $12,500 the month before the “cash for clunkers” program started.

When “cash for clunkers” came along, they stopped discounting them and instead sold them at the list price of $15,500.  So, you paid $3000 more than you would have the month before… (Honda, Toyota , and Kia played the same list price game that Ford and Chevy did).

So let’s do the final tally here:

You traded in a car worth:  $3500
You got a discount of:  $4500
--------
Net so far:  +$1000
But there are taxes on the $4500: $1350
--------
Net so far:  -$ 350
Amount the price was jacked up that month:  $3000
----------
Actual Real World Net:  -$3350

Oops. And it’s too late now.

We could also add in the additional taxes (sales tax, state tax, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, along with the 5 years of interest on the car loan, but let’s just stop here.

So who actually made out on the deal?  The feds collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 they “gave” you.  The car dealers made an extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks from the manufacturers and the loan companies.  The manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they could not give away the month before.  And the poor, stupid consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot afford.

Obama and his band of merry men convinced Joe consumer that he was getting $4500 in “free” money from the “government” when in fact, Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an additional $3350 for the privilege.

Think this was stupid for those who were crazy enough to swallow this wonderful scheme?

Just wait until we get health care with no additional costs over what most of us now pay for health insurance and the best medical care in the world.

Think that scheme might be designed by the same people who came up with Cash for Clunkers?

This scam alert brought to you by Rancino. Thanks guy!

Stretching The Hypocrisy Envelope

Obama Pitches Jobs Program, Points Finger at GOP for Economic Mess

President Obama used his speech rolling out a stimulus-style jobs program Tuesday to point the finger at Republicans for allegedly facilitating the economic crisis and then foisting it off on his administration to solve.

While praising his own team for pioneering “ambitious” financial reform and “sweeping” economic recovery initiatives, the president took some pointed shots at Republicans who are now blasting the latest package as a spend-crazy “stimulus two” that will drill deeper into the deficit.

“We were forced to take those steps (to jump-start the economy) largely without the help of an opposition party which, unfortunately, after having presided over the decision-making that had led to the crisis, decided to hand it over to others to solve,” Obama said, starting his address with a history lesson on the roots of the recession.

Republicans, however, slammed Obama for dipping into the federal piggy bank once again to finance a jobs program that might or might not work.

“This is stimulus two. They won’t call it a stimulus,” House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said.

“The policy of this administration is if you’ve got it, spend it,” said House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, R-Ind.

Obama said the crisis was caused not just by economic weakness but the “weakness in our political system”—one corroded by the “bitterness of partisanship,” and the “endless campaigns focused on scoring points instead of meeting our common challenges.”

What a cocksucking little douche bunny this guy is. Get him a job in the movie theater because he’s a total projectionist. Get him a job in the Greek orchestra because he’s the greatest lyre playa ever. Get him a job with the EPA doing supersite cleanup on all the toxic waste he spews. Get him a job anywhere doing anything. Just get him out of the White House.

Yes, the Republicans are partly to blame for this mess. So are the Democrats. Home Slice has been in power for a year now. It’s long past time to STFU about Eviiil Boooosh.

No, I’m not putting in the link. It’s on Fox. But it’s SSDD, and let’s spend another $50 billion. Same ol’ same ol’. Why even bother?

Stimulus is another way to spell payback and corruption

SIX MILLION DOLLARS TO SAVE THREE JOBS

Hillary’s PR pals score whopping pile of cash from stimulus

Mark Penn’s two firms got $6 million from stimulus for PR campaign
By Alexander Bolton - 12/09/09 12:00 AM ET

Nearly $6 million in stimulus money was paid to two firms run by Mark Penn, Hillary Clinton’s pollster in 2008.

Federal records show that $5.97 million from the $787 billion stimulus helped preserve three jobs at Burson-Marsteller, the global public-relations and communications firm headed by Penn.

Burson-Marsteller won the contract to work on a public-relations campaign to advertise the national switch from analog to digital television. Nearly $2.8 million of the contract was issued to Penn’s polling firm, Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates, according to federal records.

The article goes on to mention the dickless Republicans, doing too little too late. As usual. But look! Something new!

The GOP senators highlighted the direction of the stimulus funds on the same day Obama outlined a new series of proposals for creating jobs that Republicans view as another stimulus measure. The proposals include tax cuts for small businesses, tax incentives for employers to hire new workers and infrastructure spending.

The need for additional measures has raised questions over the efficacy of the stimulus package passed earlier this year.

Oh, I get it. Now that Fearless Reader and his underling the Wicked Witch have paid off all the unions, all the left wing racketeers like ACORN, provided fat cash to all their pals, given massive paybacks to all of their political contributors, and built an unvetted cabal of communists, anarchists, pedophiles, and raving socialists at the very top of the government, NOW they can step back a little and start putting classical Conservative measures into place that have been proven time and time again to be the only things that actually stimulate the market.

Because taking care of all your pals, and making sure that they’re all nearly drowning in cash is far more important than helping the nation recover. That’s merely an afterthought.

Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) said the three jobs saved at Burson-Marsteller represented a poor value for taxpayers.

“It illustrates a very poor way to create jobs,” Kyl said. Kyl said the appropriateness of Democratic strategists receiving funds “depends on whether they exerted some influence.”

The digital television advertising campaign ranked as No. 3 on the list of 100 projects that GOP senators on Tuesday highlighted as “pure waste” in the billions of stimulus funds spent this year.

Senator Kyl is just as clueless as that other Arizona Senator. He’s drunk the Kool-Aid, and buys into the “jobs saved = jobs created” mantra. Idiot. AND he’s implying that it’s OK for this PR firm to get such a payback IF they had influence? Influence where Kyl baby? With the Hildabeast? Well, no shit. With the effectiveness of their ad campaign? Double idiot! The government never should have spent one red cent on such a campaign to begin with. Getting that analog to digital TV message out was the responsibility of the TV networks. Not the government. And please ... we all knew it was coming years ago, to the point that we all just shook our heads when the switchover was delayed yet again last time. Everybody knew, and was beyond sick of hearing about it. So NO: forking out a truck load of cash to her PR firm to run such a info campaign less than 2 months before the instantiation date was a total waste. That too was a payback.

We are so screwed.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
