More On (MORON) Blather

What Some Pundits Are Saying About Dan Blather and C-B.S.

The Babe in the Bunker takes Dan Blather behind the bunker and spanks him.

Mark Steyn excoriates Blather.

And best of all.....a must read from Lowell Ponte that takes apart Dan Blather’s career and exposes him for the deceiving, biased fuckwad he is.  I am printing this one so I can re-read it several times and become well versed on this asshole’s shenanigans.

Read it.  You won’t regret doing so.  If you are as old or older than I am you may feel a bit uncomfortable at reading about and remembering what this assclown foisted on us.  Worse still is the feeling you’ll get if you recently came to the conclusion that you believed what you saw back then.  What Blather has perpetrated on the American public is nothing less than malicious, intentional deception.  He should go to jail.

Can It Be That Finally We Will Get An Admission of Guilt?

The New York Times reports (but, hey, what with Jayson Blair can we really trust anything THEY say?) CBS may (or may not) declare today that their story about the memos regarding President Bush’s National Guard service were false.

Will they admit they are in the backpockets of the Democratic Party?  Not on your life!  But that they are.  image

Yet CBS still says that even if they were false they were accurate.  WHAT BALLS!!  WHAT DISINGENUOUSNESS!!  That’s like saying if a team loses the world series 4 games to 3 that they actually won because they scored more runs.  Hell, for that matter, the logic at CBS helps to explain why many still feel Al Gore won the election because he got more individual votes even though President Bush won the electoral college.  Or as Jay Leno points out: “ They’re like breasts in California. “Fake but accurate.”

I have a really hard time understanding people who cling to falsehoods in the hope that by repeating them someone will actually believe they turn out to be true.  ASSHOLES!

Funny how as you read through this article you will see that almost everyone involved on the C-BS side refuses to comment.

While we’re on the subject, you may want to subscribe to RatherBiased.Com’s newsletter.  They’ll email it to you whenever new stuff comes out about Dan Blather.

You can go here to read the latest in news about this sociopath liar and distorter of truths.  Below find their latest offering, “Twenty Things CBS Won’t Apologize For”

1. Failing to use the best document experts it could find,
2. Hiring a signature expert to look at a copied document when he himself said earlier that doing such a thing was foolish,
3. Ignoring and lying about the testimony of those it did hire,
4. Failing to interview Marian Knox as well as the others listed above,
5. Not interviewing anyone directly connected with Lt. Col Killian,
6. Not informing viewers that Staudt had retired a year-and-a-half before the time he was supposedly trying to help “sugarcoat” Bush’s record,
7. Failing to inform viewers that not a single verified document signed by Killian or his fellow officers during the time period used the typographical techniques used in the CBS Memos,
8. Not mentioning Ben Barnes’s partisan background enough,
9. Not disclosing the 30-year friendship of the two Texas Democrats Barnes and Rather,
10. Failing to even know who producer Mary Mapes’s document source was before the broadcast,
11. Dishonestly impugning the motives of critics,
12. Using its news broadcasts to defend a bad report instead of examining how it could be wrong,
13. Never once featuring a single document expert on the air who doubted CBS’s claims,
14. Putting total non-experts on the air to spin the preferred “authentic” line even though CBS would not allow them to see its documents,
15. Not mentioning that Killian never kept notes and hated to type,
16. Failing to provide the public with copies of the documents as close as possible to the ones CBS obtained,
17. Not finding out if the office in which Killian worked even had a typewriter capable of duplicating most of the complex formatting used in the CBS documents (it did not),
18. Using the testimony of a vehemently anti-Bush author to prove its case and simply referring to him as an author who “wrote two books on the subject,”
19. Failing to inform viewers that its document source was someone who hated George Bush,
20. Not telling viewers that one of its key (if not the key) sources was a man known to be mentally unstable and one who has lodged false accusations against Bush for years.

Dan Rather: Insurance Salesman?

Time for Dan Rather to start selling insurance? In his 1994 book, The Camera Never Blinks Twice, Rather maintained that “a serious journalist can’t run with a story without confirmation” from at least two sources. Writing that was how he “made it through Watergate,” Rather predicted that “if I’d gone off half-cocked, if I’d gotten my facts scrambled, if I’d run with unconfirmed leads, I’d be selling insurance right now.” But maybe it depends on how he defines a story as honest. In defending Bill Clinton as an “honest man,” in 2001 Rather insisted: “I think you can be an honest person and lie about any number of things.”

Just like the memos! They are simultaneously fake and accurate.

Hmmmmm .... which one of the three below would YOU trust? Personally, I go with the gecko. He has an honest face, eh? The duck is kinda strange and the fellow on the end .... fuggedaboutit!

Late Night Humor

Leno:

“A lot of new shows premiering this week. CBS has a new news magazine coming out .. it’s called “Dan Rather’s Believe It or Not.”

“You all know CBS, which stands for ‘Can’t Believe Story.’”

“You know what’s interesting - while President Bush was speaking to the National Guard about Iraq, I think he got a little confused. Like at one point he ordered the carpet bombing of the Aladdin Hotel.”

“You know who’s in Vegas tomorrow to talk to the National Guard, John Kerry. Imagine Bush and Kerry in Vegas at the same time. Imagine Bush and Kerry at the black jack table? One can’t decide if he wants another card, the other can’t count to 21.”

“John Kerry campaigned in Wisconsin today. It was reported he had a huge cheese head on. Turns out that was his actual head.”

“As you know, we’ve been having some wild weather, and that could affect the vote on Election Day. For example: if there’s a hurricane in Texas, Kerry could win. If there’s a rainstorm in Massachusetts, Bush could win. And if it “snows in hell”, Ralph Nader will win.”

“Governor Schwarzenegger has passed a new law - it is now illegal in California to have sex with a corpse. There goes Tipper Gore’s weekend.”

Letterman:

Top Ten Things Dan Rather Would Never Say On The CBS Evening News ....

10. I’m Dan Rather, your love anchor.
9. Connie, mind if I borrow your mascara?
8. Wanna buy a fake Rolex?
7. And now a report from our White House correspondent, Howie Mandel.
6. Maybe Letterman ought to spend some of that big-time TV money on better wigs.
5. That’s the news, I’m Oprah Winfrey.
4. Hey, let’s bomb Alaska!
3. Honey, I’ll be home soon--have the tequila ready.
2. Good evening. I’m Dan Rather and I’m not wearing pants.
1. I made that last story up.

It’s Beginning!!!!!!

Could it be my wish for C-BS to go bankrupt is coming true?  We can only hope!

To have Blather come in behind ALL news shows and RE-RUNS!  That’s just dandy as far as I am concerned.

Still, though, C-BS continues to stand behind this asshole who’s had a long history of questionable reporting with comments from top C-BS sources like:

“I do not think is fair to Dan, who is a fine journalist”

Fair has nothing to do with it, you FUCKWADS!  It has to do with honesty and credibility.  Something you lack and a fact that millions of Americans are finally waking up to.

We would do well to vote with our wallets when it comes to this kind of crap by not watching anything CBS produces.  Sooner or later the advertisers will realize and my dream of their bankruptcy can finally come true.

A Follow-Up on Dan Blather and SEE-BS

I almost blew past this story thinking it would not really hold my interest nor reveal much we didn’t already know.  But any opinion I had about the means and ways of SEE-BS and Dan Blather when it comes to reporting and sourcing was further reinforced towards the tail end of the piece.

See for yourself:

Yesterday I posted something about Dan Blather and mentioned how he’d done a TV Special wherein he never really checked his sources and ended up hoodwinked by a bunch of psychologically unstable characters purporting to be that which they were not.

When reading the Washington Post story at first you will slog through a bunch of detail dealing with Kinko’s and a guy named Burkette, who many feel is the source of the documents.  Plus, he lives 21 miles from the Kinko’s---the only one in the area.

Towards the end you will see this:

“(Burkette)… has been involved in a bitter dispute with the Guard over medical benefits after suffering from a tropical disease following a military assignment in Panama. He has told reporters that he had a nervous breakdown and was hospitalized for depression after he left the Guard.”

What is it with Dan Blather and SEE-BS that they seem to interview only nut-bags?  And they believe everything these nutbags tell them, to boot?!?!?!?!

More telling and almost a slam dunk this buttwad is guilty as sin came when his lawyer said this about his client:

“(Burkette)… no longer trusts any possible outcome of speaking to the press on any issue regarding George W. Bush and does not choose to dignify recent spurious attacks upon his character with any comment.” (Emphasis mine.)

I guess the lawyer also knows the gig is up and that his asshole client is a lying sack of shit.  Hopefully the lawyer has some integrity and will run away in order NOT to tarnish his name.  Unless he comes from the John Edwards camp of trial lawyers.

So there you have it.  Can anyone say, “AGENDA?” because that’s exactly what it is looking like CBS has with President Bush and the Republican party---an agenda.  They will stoop to any level to dig up or make up dirt in the hopes no one will catch them out.

But the blogoshere has your number you shitbirds and it won’t be long before your news “reporting” is ignored by most Americans.  I look forward to witnessing your bankruptcy and slide into insignificance.

ASSHOLES!!!

CBS FORGERY ACTION REQUEST PETITION! SIGN IT!

Now is your turn to stand up America. If you want to do something about the “RatherGate” or “MemoGate” as it is called you have a chance to let your voice be heard.

I have created and posted online at PetitionsOnline.Com a petition. Click here to view the petition and add your signature if you agree.

Here is the full text of the petition ....

To:  US Attorney General John Ashcroft

We, the undersigned are concerned about the recent documents used by CBS News in its newscast on September 9, 2004 which purported to show that President Bush was guilty of dereliction of duty while in the National Guard in the early 1970’s. Our concern is not with the content of the documents but whether or not they are genuine. Several experts in handwriting and typesetting have examined copies of the documents and have directly and forcefully questioned their validity. CBS News has reportedly conducted its own internal investigation and CBS News anchor Dan Rather has repeatedly denied that the documents are forged. CBS News executives and Mr. Rather have also refused to reveal any information regarding the source of the documents or how they were obtained. We believe that if the documents are forgeries, then a crime has been committed against the American people and the felony of intentional fraud should be punished. Furthermore, we believe that CBS News’ refusal to reveal the source of the documents and how they were obtained places the veracity of the documents in grave doubt.

Therefore we, the undersigned call upon US Attorney General John Ashcroft to either (a) order the FBI to investigate the documents and determine their veracity or (b) appoint an independent investigator to perform the same task. We ask Attorney General Ashcroft to subpoena any individual at CBS who has knowledge of these documents and to take sworn testimony before a Federal Grand Jury to determine the extent of this possible fraudulent attempt to influence the American election. If the documents are found to be forgeries by an investigation, we ask the Attorney General to prosecute the individuals responsible to the fullest extent mandated by law.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

MEMOGATE UPDATE!!

NEWS FLASH! CBS News is suddenly struggling to cover it’s butt. Without much success, I might add. Stay tuned. The MEMOGATE story is fast developing into major news ....

No word yet from Dan Rather who has been holed up in his office since yesterday shredding documents ....

Update I: The Communist News Network (CNN) finally decides to cover the story. The headline reads “Bush Guard flight logs released”, and in much smaller type below that “Authenticity of Bush Guard memos questioned”. Buried in the story about Bush’s last days in the Guard flying trainers is minor coverage of the forgery at CBS.

Update II: MSNBC is finally heard from: ”Authenticity of Bush memos questioned - Typographical, formatting questions emerge”.

Update III: Wheeeeee-doggies! Now we’re having fun! According to USAToday, the White House just issued the following statement ....

“You absolutely are seeing a coordinated attack by John Kerry and his surrogates,” White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters. “The polls show Sen. Kerry falling behind, and it’s the same old recycled attacks that we’ve seen every time the president has been up for election.”

The Kerry campaign immediately fired back with ....

Joe Lockhart, a spokesman for the Kerry campaign, said McClellan was “hurling nonsensical, inaccurate and baseless charges.” The Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, issued a news release calling Bush “a liar” who owes Americans a fuller explanation of his military record.

Update IV: Google shows 1,530 online articles covering CBS’s forgery. That’s rather interesting.

Update V: John Edwards apparently doesn’t get it. Now he’s calling for Bush to respond to the accusations made in the forged documents. Hello, John! They were F-A-K-E! Even a lawyer should be able to grasp that. Get a grip, dude!

Update VI: Dan Rather was just interviewed on CNN and he defended the documents he used and fired back at those who are questioning their authenticity ....

Rather: I know that this story is true. I believe that the witnesses and the documents are authentic. We wouldn’t have gone to air if they would not have been. There isn’t going to be—there’s no—what you’re saying apology?

Question: Apology or any kind of retraction or--

Rather: Not even discussed, nor should it be. I want to make clear to you, I want to make clear to you if I have not made clear to you, that this story is true, and that more important questions than how we got the story, which is where those who don’t like the story like to put the emphasis, the more important question is what are the answers to the questions raised in the story, which I just gave you earlier.

Excuse me but wasn’t it Dan Rather who accused Richard Nixon in 1973 of “stonewalling” and hiding the truth? Why won’t CBS reveal the source of the memos? What are they trying to hide? The people deserve to know the truth. They needed to know the truth about who broke into the Watergate Hotel in 1972 and they need to know the truth today about who foisted these forged documents off on us.

CBS FORGERY!! MEMOGATE!!

Someone stick a fork in Dan Rather. He’s done.

image

After being largely confined to the internet and talk radio yesterday, coverage of CBS’s apparent usage of forged documents has exploded into more traditional media outlets with several reports from the Associated Press, multiple stories by ABC News, The New York Times, Fox News Channel, a front-page story in the Washington Post and more.

CBS News hasn’t been so pilloried in the press since Dan Rather’s 2001 keynote speech at a fund-raiser for Texas Democrats. And it is justly being scrutinized today. Against the advice of many of his colleagues, Rather almost single-handedly put a story on the air that had relied on at least two forged documents.

Typographical experts, legacy office equipment collectors, and even the family of the man who supposedly wrote the documents have all called into question CBS’s “scoop.” The fact that a bunch of people working independently on the internet could so readily debunk an obvious forgery tells a very disturbing story about the journalistic practices of a news organization that has allowed one man’s grudge against the Bush family to set its remaining shreds of credibility aflame.

The fiasco is getting so bad that it is tearing up CBS News. Whether news division president Andrew Heyward has the courage to make the changes needed to ensure that his organization is sufficiently ideologically diverse to prevent such an event from happening again is open to question. He has long been known as a toady to Rather and may not have the guts to do what’s right.

One thing is certain, however. Microsoft needs to fix its Auto Correct feature to properly spell CBS’s star anchor’s name without superscripting the “th” in his last name.

To its credit, CBS has included some critical remarks from Gary Killian--the son of Jerry Killian, the deceased man at the center of the controversy--on its Web site.

Unfortunately, though, the Rather-run Evening News decided not to mention the questions surrounding the alleged memos. We also couldn’t help but notice that the CBSNews.com’s Opinion section (which is currently featuring a number of anti-Republican articles and no anti-Democrat ones) has not reprinted any of the media criticism its online partners National Review, and The Weekly Standard, something it was not averse to doing when one of its liberal magazine partners accused the media of being biased against John Kerry.

“In a telephone interview from her Texas home, Killian’s widow, Marjorie Connell, described the records as ‘a farce,’ saying she was with her husband until the day he died in 1984 and he did not ‘keep files.’ She said her husband considered Bush ‘an excellent pilot.’

“‘I don’t think there were any documents. He was not a paper person,’ she said, adding that she was ‘livid’ at CBS. A CBS reporter contacted her briefly before Wednesday night’s broadcasts, she said, but did not ask her to authenticate the records.”

More:

A senior CBS official, who asked not to be named because CBS managers did not want to go beyond their official statement, named one of the network’s sources as retired Maj. Gen. Bobby W. Hodges, the immediate superior of the documents’ alleged author, Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian. He said a CBS reporter read the documents to Hodges over the phone and Hodges replied that ‘these are the things that Killian had expressed to me at the time.’

‘These documents represent what Killian not only was putting in memoranda, but was telling other people,’ the CBS News official said. ‘Journalistically, we’ve gone several extra miles.’

The official said the network regarded Hodges’s comments as ‘the trump card’ on the question of authenticity, as he is a Republican who acknowledged that he did not want to hurt Bush. Hodges, who declined to grant an on-camera interview to CBS, did not respond to messages left on his home answering machine in Texas.

Marjorie Connell, who was married to Jerry Killian, the deceased Texas Air National officer who allegedly wrote CBS’s controversial Bush memos appeared on Thursday’s Nightline, blasting the network for promoting “untruths” about her husband.

Some excerpts:

“What aggravated me so much, was that he can not be here to say and yet they can drag his name onto television, making bad accusations about our president and a man that he respected and I know for a fact that he thought this young man as a second lieutenant or first lieutenant was an excellent aviator, an excellent person to be in the guard and was very happy to have him become a member of the 111th F.L.S.”

“Number one, he would not have typed because he did not type. Number two, the wording in these documents is very suspect to me. I just don’t believe that, it looks like some things may have been picked up out of a document and then other things just made fictitiously to fill in things, to make them flow. I just can’t believe that this is his words, my late husband’s words.”

“Not a typist, definitely not a typist. We had no computers at home but he wasn’t a typist, and what is remarkable to me is that he was a person who did not take or make copious notes. he carried everything in his mind and he didn’t have time to make notes.”

“He would just write little notes on the back of anything. unfortunately or fortunately as the case may be, if he needed to jot something down he would jot it on any paper that he could find, on a card, like a calling card that you would have, or just little bits of paper. He always knew where everything was, and if he needed to pull it out of his wallet on a little note or something, but he just didn’t take many notes.”

In an interview with the Washington Post, Connell said she was “livid” at CBS.

In related news, the Houston Chronicle talked more with Jerry Killian’s son, Gary, who expressed further doubts about the CBS documents’ authenticity.

Confirming his mother’s assertion that his father was no typist and that he had no “secret file” where controversial documents would be stored.

“It would have been against his own self-interest to keep a memo like that on file,” Killian told the paper. “It was just not in his nature to do that.”

Killian also said he never saw his father sign documents using his first name and that he believes they are fakes.

Update: Now the daughter of Ben Barnes says he lied to CBS ....

A woman purporting to be Amy Barnes, daughter of former Texas Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes, said Thursday that her father had fabricated claims that he used his influence to get President Bush into the Texas Air National Guard 36 years ago.

In a phone call to WBAP’s Mark Davis radio show in Dallas, Texas, Ms. Barnes told guest host Monica Crowley that her father was an “opportunist” who had lied about Bush’s Guard record during a “60 Minutes II” broadcast Tuesday night.

Jobs? What Jobs? I Don’t See No Jobs. La-la-la-la-la ….

The unemployment rate fell again last month. However, the liberal media somehow managed to make it sound bad. Incredible, simply incredible ....

The unemployment rate fell a tenth to 5.4 percent in August as 144,000 jobs were created during the month and the job creation number for July was revised upward by more than double, from 32,000 to 73,000 new jobs, but all the networks on Friday night managed to turn the Labor Department numbers, released that morning, into a negative. Neither ABC or CNN even mentioned the lower unemployment rate or upward revision for July as CBS also skipped the upward revision. ABC’s Peter Jennings emphasized how the 144,000 new jobs “fell short of the 200,000 jobs per month that most economists consider the minimum for strong employment growth.”

CBS’s John Roberts ran a soundbite of President Bush touting the 5.4 percent rate, but then he undermined the good news: “What the President didn’t say was that the employment numbers in August again fell short of expectations, and it is now certain he will end his first term as the first President since the Great Depression to lose jobs on his watch.” Roberts grew even more dire as he stressed how “the situation is worse than it seems. While the President touts the results of his economic recovery plan, job creation hasn’t kept up with population growth.”

ABC, CBS and NBC: “Hear no jobs, see no jobs, speak no jobs.”

Picture three monkeys with their paws covering various parts of their heads. Now you’ve got the picture of news reporting in this country. Sad, but true.

Media Slut

Dan Rather is at it again. The Democratic Party’s favorite attack dog (jackal? hyena? weasel?) is all set tonight to fire off the next salvo in his unending war against the Bush family. Yes, Rather has a long history of hating the Bush family, starting with the former President, George H. W. Bush and continuing with an ongoing war aginst George W. Bush. Tonight, Rather is going to press the issue that the Bush family pulled strings to get George into the National Guard thirty years ago. If any of you ever thought CBS was unbiased, you better open your eyes. Rather is a dedicated slut in the Democratic Party’s army of media whores.

The George Bush reelection team is bracing itself tonight as it prepares for another primetime assault by CBS News.

Five months after Dan Rather denounced the just-formed Swift Boat Veterans for Truth as “an experienced and successful Republican operation made up of veterans attacking Vietnam war hero John Kerry,” the 72-year-old anchor and avowed Democrat is set to unveil an extensive interview with Ben Barnes, a former Texas Democratic politician who claims he helped a young Bush avoid service in the Vietnam War by getting him into the Texas National Guard in 1968.

Tonight’s Bush attack marks the latest broadside that Rather and his CBS colleagues have launched against the Bush family. Beginning with his infamous ambush of George H. W. Bush during the Republican primaries in 1988 (which CBS beforehand promised would be softball “candidate profile” interview), Dan Rather and his colleagues have had it in for the Bushes.

Later in the same year, on the eve of the Republicans’ convention, Rather was the sole network anchor to report on a lone man who accused the then-veep of lying about his service in World War II.

Despite such efforts, Bush was elected but Rather and his colleagues continued to dog the president whose staff swore he would “never” allow the Texas Democrat to interview him. CBS, meanwhile, repeatedly rejected the administration’s offers to allow other network correspondents to interview the president, insisting “only Dan Rather interviews the president.”

After some time, CBS relented and sent Morning News anchors Harry Smith and Paula Zahn to the White House. Unbeknownst to the White House, however, Evening News producer Susan Zirinsky had tagged along.

Bush’s press secretary at the time, Marlin Fitzwater recounted what followed in his memoirs:

“As the show was about to end, I discovered Susan Zirinsky, Rather’s producer, crouched behind some Rose Garden hedges, shouting into her two-way radio: ‘Ask him about Iran-Contra. Iran-Contra!’ That confirmed everyone’s feelings about the depth of Dan Rather’s hatred for the president.”

And how does CBS and Dan Rather cover the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth?

Given CBS’s patently obvious record of liberal and Democratic bias (which even News Division president Andrew Heyward has acknowledged) and Dan Rather’s personal grudge against the Bush family, we are not holding out much hope that tonight’s 60 Minutes episode questioning President Bush’s Vietnam record will be a fair program or that 60 will even bother mentioning the allegations of hundreds of men who doubt the wartime honesty of Bush’s opponent John Kerry, especially considering that it has not shown any interest in interviewing them during primetime.

“CBS has never contacted any of our members for an interview.” Swift Boat Veterans for Truth spokesman John O’Neill tells RatherBiased.com. “There’s not a chance of it.”

It’s nasty enough to gag a buzzard.

I agree. Rather is just a two-bit whore at the Democratic Party’s beck and call.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
