It’s a Gift

Yaakov Kirschen, the author of the the Dry Bones cartoons I paste up here once in a while, has made a digital reprint of a short book he wrote 18 years ago and is giving to the world on this Friday, ahead of next Tuesday.

It’s a comic book, which means you can go through the 192 pages in about half an hour.

It’s a lovely little book that tells a very old story. You’ll laugh, and you’ll cry more than once.

This book is dedicated to the generation that tried to sing its song to us ...
and to the generation to which we now attempt to sing.

Well done Yaakov.

And now I even understand why he named his cartoon and his blog what he did.

imageSchuldig will be back in a new Dry Bones cartoon on April 21st. In the meantime, Kirschen tells the back story to how he came to write this little gem, a graphic novel that some have called a prophecy.

Your Foreign Aid Dollars At Work

Hey, this is actually good news for once! And at the core, we have Ronald Reagan to thank for it. It took 20 years of R&D, but it looks like the system works just fine even in small scale.

Iron Dome defeats Grad yet again

image

Happy Snap™ picture of the day

What’s with the picture? It’s a photograph taken of Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system at work, intercepting a hamas launched Grad missile. Star Wars SDI, on the battlefield scale. It’s similar technology to the now combat proven tank defense system I wrote about a couple weeks ago. About half the funding for the Israeli R&D came from the USA, along with close working relationships with Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.  Iron Dome is a C-RAM system, an acronym that stands for Counter Rocket Artillery and Mortar. What it does is shoot down incoming threats, but it does it intelligently - high speed computers analyze the flight path of the threat, and only respond if it’s going to hit something important. Naturally, the Iron Dome system is also hooked into a counter battery network, which can accurately shoot back at the source long before their shells or missiles have hit. Pretty damn good. And not insanely expensive for once either.

Iron Dome does it again; Gaza rocket intercepted

Assault on southern Israel continues; anti-rocket system intercepts missile fired at Ashkelon

Tova Dadon Published: 04.09.11, 18:20 / Israel News

South under relentless fire: The Iron Dome anti-rocket system intercepted yet another incoming missile Saturday afternoon, this one targeting Ashkelon, as Palestinian terrorist in Gaza continued to target southern Israel.

Iron Dome’s latest successful interception, at around 5:40 pm Saturday, marks the eighth time the highly advanced system shoots down an incoming rocket over the weekend. Another rocket exploded near a kibbutz in the Shaar Hanegev regional council. The council’s security chief, Yoav Peled, told Ynet Saturday that terror groups have been directing barrages into the same areas in recent days.

Yesterday:

Iron Dome intercepts first rocket

Residents in Ashkelon reported Thursday seeing Israel’s new Iron Dome defense system intercept a Grad rocket fired towards the southern city from the Gaza Strip. IDF officials called the interception a “historical moment”, saying it was the first of its kind in the world. Two intercepting missiles were fired at the rocket, but the first succeeded in hitting it, an army official said.

Eyewitnesses told Ynet they saw the rocket explode in midair and realized that the system had intercepted its first rocket. Moshe Ben Hemo, a resident of Ashkelon, said, “I was in the street and I heard a strange sound, like someone pushing the gas pedal of a car. Then I saw the rocket fly through the air and explode. Immediately I realized that it was Iron Dome, that’s what has been said here.” He added that the rocket alert had not been set off. “The rocket was apparently supposed to explode in Ashkelon. In any case I’m glad the system works,” he said.

After hitting a student bus traveling through Shaar Hanegev Regional Council Thursday, critically wounding a 16-year old boy and lightly injuring the driver, terrorists in Gaza fired some 45 rockets and mortar shells at Israel. No further injuries were reported.

The Multi Mission Radar (MMR) operating in the area detected the launch of rockets fired from Gaza toward Ashkelon and triggered ‘code Red’ alert sending the city to the shelters. Simultaneously, ‘Iron Dome’ went into action, Assessing the projected impact point of some of the rockets to be within the protected area, the battery launched its interceptors to defeat the specific rockets posing a potential risk, scoring direct hits. Identifying the Palestinian rockets’ launch point, the IAF conducted an air attack targeting the location. The conflict between Israel and the Palestinians has escalated in recent weeks, as Palestinians fired rockets at the city of Beer Sheva.

Earlier this week Israel’s Defense Minister Ehud Barak requested the Israeli Government to allocate funding for the acquisition of five additional Iron Dome batteries. Funding for seven batteries was apporved last year by the U.S. Congress but the actual funding was not allocated yet.

Today, the Palestinians further increased the level of fishes, firing an AT-15 Kornet anti-tank missile at an Israeli school bus transporting children back from school, wounding the driver and one passenger on board, a 15 year schoolboy. The attack was followed by intensive Qasam (improvised rockets) and mortar fire throughout the region. By introducing such precision weapon against a civilian target, the attack triggering an escalated Israeli response by firing artillery and direct fire by helicopter gunships.

image While the Iron Dome launcher looks somewhat like the Grad launch system - both have racks of tube mounted missiles - the Russian Grad launchers are mere tube artillery - unguided rockets. The Iron Dome system uses small, very high speed guided missiles. What makes this thing so darn boss is that it uses radar and computer power to find, track, and analyze very small flying threats in real time. A 122mm artillery shell is maybe 2 feet long at the most, and they come at you at bullet speeds - Mach 2 in airplane terms. Given enough launchers, Iron Dome could easily knock falling bombs out of the air. Why not, since those are much bigger and slower than artillery shells?

My favorite feature on the Iron Dome system is also shared with the IDF’s Trophy vehicle defense system, and that’s the ability to analyze the incoming threat. Read the speed and the trajectory, plot the impact point, hit the map database and see if anything in that spot is valuable, and if so, defend against it. Why waste money intercepting Kassam rockets that are only going to blow up in a farm field? Why shoot at the RPG fired against your tank if it’s going to miss? And this is all done in real time, which means they’ve got some really good computers running these things.

Now I wonder if Iron Dome is good enough to stop guided missiles that change course? And whether the interceptor missiles can take a booster stage for some extended range? Because if they can, it looks like this thing will make a dandy defense against cruise missiles AND be a decent SAM system against enemy jets. Let’s hope they have a waterproof version too, that can be ship mounted to defend against those super high speed Iranian and Chinese anti-ship missiles we keep hearing about.

Source for the “how it works” graphic, with small article
Meanwhile, given the situation in the rest of the Middle East and across North Africa, Time wonders if this “escalation” isn’t two steps forward on another March To War.

And of course, over in Jew hating England, the Telegraph runs the story that only emphasizes the collateral damage done by the IDF’s counter battery, where the pali’s known use of human shields is merely reported as an “Israeli accusation”. D-bags. Yeah, and Glen Beck is the anti-Semite. Right.

Halfway Around The World From Japan

This has been going around the blogosphere, but has seen only very limited coverage in the western MSM. Same old, same old. Yawn. It’s another “disaster narrowly avoided” story, just like the Fukushima reactor story that ought to be the lead in the MSM but isn’t. Instead they are indulging in an obscene orgy of fear mongering, but that’s another post.

IDF Interdicts Massive Weapons Shipment

... and the “no-fly news”

Hey, can you remember back as far as 4 weeks ago? Remember when it was a news item that Iran was sending a navy ship through the Suez Canal? Guess where they went, and guess what was in the holds of that ship? Yup, you got it in one.

image

(March 16) The Israel Navy intercepted an estimated 50 tons of weapons from Iran yesterday aboard a cargo ship bound for the Gaza Strip, including sophisticated land-to-sea missiles that could have enabled Palestinian militants to hit ships at Ashdod Port or at sea, or other Israeli targets like a crude oil depot or a gas drilling rig, the navy said.

The weapons were aboard the Liberian-flagged Victoria, which naval commandos took over in the Mediterranean Sea. The shipment is estimated to be as large as that captured by Israel in 2002 aboard the Karine A, which was also headed for the Palestinians.

The Chinese-made C-704 missiles were “undoubtedly strategic weapons” that could have posed a significant threat to Israel’s coastal and marine infrastructure, said the navy’s deputy commander, Brig. Gen. Rani Ben-Yehuda.

He said Iran is known to possess these weapons. The shipment also included instruction manuals in Farsi, and there were other clues that explicitly showed Iranian involvement, said Ben-Yehuda.

The military released a photo of a booklet with the words “technical missile identification document” written in Farsi on the cover. It identified the system as a C-704 Nasr missile, and provided a serial number and date of issue in the Persian calendar.

“This isn’t just smuggling, but a state-supported undertaking whose central goal is to arm the terror organizations around us,” Ben-Yehuda said.

And that isn’t all. Iran is trying to arm up Gaza by any means - land, sea, and air.

On March 13, Egypt’s military shelled seven vehicles carrying arms, likely Iranian-supplied, from Sudan over the border into Egypt. Several vehicles were destroyed and the weapons – intended for Hamas in Gaza – were seized.

On March 15, Israeli naval commandos seized a German-registered cargo ship, Victoria, in the Mediterranean, 320km off the Israeli coast. The Victoria, with 50 tons of Iranian weapons hidden aboard, had set out from the Syrian port of Latakia, stopped in Turkey, and was headed for Alexandria, Egypt. From there, the weapons were to be smuggled to Hamas in Gaza. According to Israeli officials, Turkey was not involved; the stop at a Turkish port is seen as an Iranian diversionary tactic. Among the weapons were a number of sophisticated radar-guided “C-704” anti-ship missiles made in Iran, based on a Chinese design. ...

On March 16, Turkey forced an Iranian cargo plane en route from Tehran to Syria to land at a Turkish airfield on suspicion it was carrying illicit nuclear material. According to Turkey’s Anatolia news agency, the anti-nuclear, biological and chemical unit of the country’s civil defence department took part in the inspection of the plane, lasting several hours. Following the search, Turkish officials said that no “material contrary to international standards,” had been found and allowed the plane to leave. While Turkey’s foreign ministry downplayed the affair, the assumption is that Turkey, which has recently been drawing closer to Iran in some other respects, would not force an Iranian plane to land unless it had solid intelligence that highly sensitive materiel was aboard.
...
While much of the Middle East, from North Africa to the Gulf Arab states, is undergoing upheavals, it appears that Iran is determined to exploit the situation and exacerbate the instability to its advantage. ... we have every reason to believe Iran will only escalate its efforts to funnel weapons into the hands of its extremist regional partners, including Hamas and Hezbollah, and may possibly be involved in aiding Syria’s undeclared nuclear program.

Good thing that the US has such a staunch president in charge who recognizes our real allies and our real enemies and does not hesitate to make fast and strong decisions and to take action when required in the ongoing fight against fundamentalist islam and terrorism. Hey, I heard that the US voted “present” on the Libya no-fly UN resolution that didn’t even come up for a vote until Gadhaffi had the rebels surrounded and on the ropes in the last city they hold. Yeah, that’s what I call world leadership from our president. Well, when he isn’t playing golf I mean.

Oops, my bad. It was Germany, Russia, China, Brazil, and India that “voted present” by abstaining on the UN Security Council vote. It’s merely that the US has no plan for it’s role in enforcing that no-fly thingy. Or was that the day before yesterday? Now the Hildabeast, our SoS (how appropriate is that acronym?) is talking tough, while France, UK, Canada et al ready planes, ships, and helicopters to go there and actually do something. Crivens, this administration has so many waffles they ought to open their own IHOP.

PS - Sarah Palin called for a no-fly zone WEEKS ago, long before the Arab League did. It’s such a shame that’s she’s so inexperienced and unqualified, isn’t it?

PPS - Secretary of State Clinton’s support of the Libyan rebels and the whole North African situation has left her quite frustrated in light of White House dithering. And to Obama, all she is is a punchline. Seriously.

Clinton is said to be especially peeved with the president’s waffling over how to encourage the kinds of Arab uprisings that have recently toppled regimes in Egypt and Tunisia, and in particular his refusal to back a no-fly zone over Libya.

In the past week, former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton’s former top adviser Anne-Marie Slaughter lashed out at Obama for the same reason. The tension has even spilled over into her dealings with European diplomats, with whom she met early this week.  When French president Nicolas Sarkozy urged her to press the White House to take more aggressive action in Libya, Clinton repeatedly replied only, “There are difficulties,” according to Foreign Policy magazine.

“Frankly we are just completely puzzled,” one of the diplomats told Foreign Policy magazine. “We are wondering if this is a priority for the United States.”

Or as the insider described Obama’s foreign policy shop: “It’s amateur night.”

Obama himself made light of her strong feelings for supporting the opposition in a speech last week at the Gridiron Club Dinner, an annual gathering that traditionally features a stand-up comedy act by the president.

“I’ve dispatched Hillary to the Middle East to talk about how these countries can transition to new leaders — though, I’ve got to be honest, she’s gotten a little passionate about the subject,” Obama said to laughter from the audience, “These past few weeks it’s been tough falling asleep with Hillary out there on Pennsylvania Avenue shouting, throwing rocks at the window.”

AWESOME FIND guys. WOW!

Love it!

Wonder in Israel as ancient Roman statue buried for centuries is uncovered by powerful winter storm

By Daily Mail Reporter

A long-lost Roman statue buried for thousands of years has been unearthed by massive winter storms that have lashed the coast of Israel this week.
The mysterious white-marble figure of a woman in toga and ‘beautifully detailed’ sandals was found in the remains of a cliff that crumbled under the force of 60mph winds and enormous 40ft waves.

image image

The statue, which lacks a head and arms, is about 4ft tall and weighs 440lbs. It was found at the ancient port of Ashkelon, around 20 miles south of Tel Aviv.
It dates back to the Roman occupation of what was western Judea, between 1,800 and 2,000 years ago.
The incredible find, which was discovered by a passer-by, will now be put on display in a museum.

‘The sea gave us this amazing statue’, researcher Yigal Israeli said. ‘The statue fell into the sea when the ancient maritime cliff collapsed’.
But the find has been tinged with heartbreak for researchers after the storms destroyed the breakers protecting the Roman-era port of Caesarea, threatening to wash away one of the world’s most important historic sites.

image

Israeli archaeologists have now declared a ‘national disaster’ and warned the popular tourist attraction was in danger of suffering irreversible damage.

The Mediterranean port, near Israel’s third largest city Haifa, was built by Herod the Great shortly before the birth of Christ and served as the seat of government for Pontius Pilate.

Zeev Margalit, a spokesman for the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, said his agency had warned the government several times in recent months of the danger to the port.

Yeah well. It isn’t the job or nature of governments to listen. It’s to collect taxes and tell people what to think.

Israel proposes compensation for Gaza flotilla victims ..

Yes I know it’s dumb to believe too much in anything anymore. But I really did believe the folks in Israel were a bit tougher minded then this story shows.
Why would they cave in? They’re a sovereign state, or so I thought.

Those life forms on that boat armed themselves long before their ship was raided by the Israelis.  They knew before hand they would be in dangerous waters. The Israelis told em as much.  But no.  It’s gotta be Israel that says sorry yet again.

I also have serious reservations over reports (in conservative papers) with regard to Israel’s extremist right religious groups who are calling the shots these days.
That is not good news either.

Israel proposes compensation for Gaza flotilla victims

Israel proposed paying compensation to relatives of those killed during a raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla, in exchange for Turkey’s help in protecting the Israeli navy against lawsuits

By Adrian Blomfield, Middle East Correspondent

The draft, offered at the weekend in Geneva, some $100,000 (£63,000) to each family of the nine pro-Palestinian activists who were shot dead trying to breach Israel’s Gaza blockade in May. They were shot by Israeli marines who boarded the aid-carrying flotilla the Mavi Marmara.

It also offered an Israeli expression of “regret” over the incident, according to Israeli diplomatic sources, but stopped short of Turkey’s demand Israel formally “apologise” for the deaths.

Turkey has thus far refused to resume full diplomatic relations with Israel until it receives an apology for the raid, which remains the subject of investigation by the UN and Israel.

Why oh why can’t the Israelis just say FUK WU to the Turks and anyone else who wants to play armchair admiral. Vas You Der Sharlie? Screw the critics.
Making payments is to my way of thinking, like admitting guilt.  Either they were in the right and defending themselves or wrong from the beginning.
Frankly, I’m tired of the whole issue I think.  It’s been going on my entire life and I don’t see anything positive happening there in my lifetime. Or what’s left of it.  And the religious right won’t give way so what’s that tell you?  Add to that, the recent forest fires in Israel and the refusal to accept help in fighting fires if the help came from Christians, was stupid, bizarre, wrong headed and did nothing to further Israel’s cause or name.  Most don’t agree with the religious right idiots who are as much a part of medieval thinking as islamic fundamentalists.  But unfortunately they seem to have power and are in many ways, in the drivers seat. Well they’re headed for a crash if the fools keep driving in that direction.  For a lot of different reasons, many Christians support Israel and have an honest and sincere regard for the state. Being Christian should not exclude someone from the ranks of friends and anyway, Jews should know better then that, having themselves been excluded for their faith.  This isn’t to say those are in the absolute majority. Yet.  I say yet because like muslims, they have a high birth rate, and they vote. The less religious minded tend not to have large families.

Part of the cost

image

from the comments, this gem:

The same gang of leftists also demonstrate against their OWN western countries, not just against Israel. And they root for the other side to win in wars (Iraq, Vietnam, El Salvador, you name it). Being a leftist is often just self-hate.

That is why they love Islam, the ultimate enemy of—themselves.

Since Israel is the ultimate example of the Judeo-Christian world view that the Left despises and since Israel has to do battle with the Moslem enemy the Left adores, it is natural for the Left to hate Israel and act accordingly.

Bulls-eye.

Yep. More proof that the ‘religion of peace’ isn’t. Not that we need any more proof. Islam has warred with the West since Mohammed was first seized by demons.

BTW, it appears that the Muzzies are trying to get this video removed. You might have to login to YouTube and prove you’re adult enough to watch it.

Oopsie

Accidentally On Purpose

US airline loses Netanyahu’s bodyguard’s guns

A bag belonging to agents travelling with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was mistakenly put on a flight from New York to Los Angeles, not to Washington.

Alarmingly the bag contained four 9mm Glock handguns, which are now missing.

A Shin Bet spokesman told the AP news agency that it is not known whether the guns went missing before or after the luggage was put on the wrong flight.

The Israeli officers were accompanying Mr Netanyahu to Washington for White House talks with President Barack Obama.

NBC News reported that the handguns had, in accordance with security procedures at New York’s John F Kennedy airport, been placed inside checked luggage.

The luggage was then supposed to be put on a connecting flight to Washington however, American Airlines workers at the airport instead sent it right across the country to LAX in Los Angeles.

By the time the luggage was located and recovered, the guns had disappeared, and are presumed to have been stolen.

Port Authority police in New York are currently investigating whether the weapons went missing before or after the suitcase was transferred to LAX, NBC News has reported.

One source told NBC that the suitcase was inspected and cleared for shipment by Transportation Security Administration screeners who put a seal over the bag at Kennedy Airport.

First off, why aren’t the bodyguards of a leading world political figure allowed to carry arms on an airplane?

Secondly, why is Netanyahu on a public flight? If El Al couldn’t fly from Tel Aviv to DC direct, wouldn’t it be smarter to put this guy on a) a private government flight, or b) have his people charter a plane at random? They couldn’t have hired a limo, or schlepped a ride from somebody on the East Side? This doesn’t make sense.

Third, WTF is going on with TSA? What, did they put a big label on the bag that said “GUN!! STEAL ME!!” or something? Wouldn’t the old diplomatic pouch have been a better choice?

Fourth, who wants to bet that these guns a) are never found, or b) the investigation (ha!) will turn up nothing, ever?

Fifth, with the billions and billions that have been spent on airport security in the past decade, it is unconscionable that anything is stolen from any luggage ever. There are a zillion video cameras all over every airport. Heads should roll. I call for a full investigation with total disclosure and multiple arrests all the way to the top. Sure, once in a while a bag goes on the wrong flight, though with computer driven everything that should never happen. Baggage handling systems are so amazing these days they get their own Modern Marvels episodes on TV. Every piece of checked luggage should be tape sealed and signed off on upon opening, just like chain of evidence is handled by the police.

Lastly, I think this is no accident. This is Obama and his minions laying another dis on our allies. Our halfrican muslim leader’s enemies, the joooos.

Agent Provocateur

This is what happens when we put a weak, anti-semitic, pro-muslim pretender in the White House. And this is just the beginning.

Red Crescent Next In Line To Test Israel

Pledges To Send 2 Aid Ships To Break Gaza Blockade

Iranian Navy To Escort The Ships?

The Iranian Red Crescent has decided to send two aid ships to Gaza this week in the latest bid to break the blockade imposed on the Palestinian territory by Iran?s regional archfoe Israel.

Red Crescent director for international affairs Abdolrauf Adibzadeh told the state IRNA news agency late on Sunday that the decision to send the ships was taken after a meeting with the foreign ministry.

‘One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers. The ships will be sent to Gaza by end of this week,’ Adibzadeh said. He said the Red Crescent has called for Iranian volunteers to act as relief workers and accompany the vessels.

‘Volunteers who want to go to Gaza and help the oppressed people of occupied Palestine can refer to the Red Crescent website and register,’ Adibzadeh said. He said the initial plan was to send the ships through an intermediary country, but ‘based on a decision by the society, they will be sent directly.’ He added that the aid would consist of foodstuffs and medicines.

The Iranian Red Crescent had previously sent an aid ship carrying food and medicines to Gaza in December 2008 but it was prevented from reaching the territory by the Israeli navy.

If aid ships want to try breaking Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza again, they’ll have the full force and military escort of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard to do it, a spokesman for the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said today. “Iran’s Revolutionary Guards naval forces are fully prepared to escort the peace and freedom convoys to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities,” said the rep.

“If the Supreme Leader issues an order for this then the Revolutionary Guard naval forces will do their best to secure the ships,” the spokesman continued. “It is Iran’s duty to defend the innocent people of Gaza.”

This is an outright provocation for war.

Not that a land war between Israel and Iran would be easy, with those other countries in between them. But an air war and a sea war could happen.

Israel has a legal sea blockade around Gaza, even though Egypt has now capitulated and opened it’s borders. Israel will allow aid ships to dock in it’s ports, and the cargoes can then be transshipped if they meet Israel’s list of allowable items. So there is no real point in “breaking the blockade” other than world theater.

If ships cross into the blockaded zone the Israelis will stop them. If the Iranian Navy escorts those aid ships and a) gives them fire support and/or b) crosses the blockade line, then this is a deliberate act of war.

The ayatollahs would never had dared such a move when Bush was president. Like Osama bin Laden, they understand the “strong horse, weak horse” argument, but right now our horse is a jackass who can at best bray in the wrong direction.

Hey, I know! Maybe he can bow to all parties involved, and have them all over for a beer!

Nice Try Suckas

I’ve heard from the nice guy that runs The Muqata blog, and since he is in the process of becoming a new member here, I will send you guys over to his place to read his latest post.

Post about what Drew?

A post about what kind of “humanitarian aide” came off those interdicted ships the other day.

Stuff like bulletproof vests, rifle scopes, night vision equipment, weapons, and a whole pile of worthless, expired medicine. Read all about it, with a video and a link to an interview with the IDF, Right Here.

I’m having one of those days when I have to mess with my PC. And that is taking hours. No viruses or anything bad, it just needed some TLC. I’ve had this machine for 11 years now, upgraded from Win 98 to XP, and I need it to run another 3 years at least. So it needs a bit of tweaking now and again, because I can’t afford to drop $2K on a new and improved machine just yet.

“Match Generated Bearings And Shoot!”

On a Slow Boat to Gaza

MV Rachel Corrie putts along, coming days late to the party

The 15 lunatics aboard vow a reprise of Teh Incident

Activists on ‘Rachel Corrie’ undeterred by Israeli action

The delayed Free Gaza Movement’s cargo ship Rachel Corrie yesterday assumed a holding position in the eastern Mediterranean, poised to make a fresh attempt to reach Israeli-blockaded Gaza. Organiser Greta Berlin said the ship was waiting for Challenger II , a small passenger boat which suffered failure of its steering gear while preparing for the passage. The two vessels, their crews and passengers are undeterred by the Israeli commando operation against the flotilla which cost the lives of nine passengers and climaxed in the detention of the other 679 on board.

The Rachel Corrie , which began its voyage in Ireland, was named after a young US woman killed by an Israeli bulldozer demolishing Palestinian homes in Gaza. Among those on board are Nobel Prize laureate Mairead Maguire and former UN assistant secretary general Denis Halliday.

Ms Berlin said the ships would be picking up other human rights activists and journalists before attempting the passage which Israel has vowed to stop.
“Israel can haul the Rachel Corrie into Ashdod as it did the other boats or show goodwill to the world by allowing her to proceed to Gaza,” she stated.

Gosh, wouldn’t hauling the ship into Ashdod instead of putting 3 torpedoes into the hull be a gesture of goodwill? Not according to this ding-dongs. Read the article if you must, but the slant gets worse from there, right down to invoking the Crusades-like “wading in seas of blood” bit. Major crap festival.

Meanwhile, over at Atlas Shrugs:

On the Good Ship, St. Pancake

U.N. Human Rights Council voting now on Flotilla resolution

...

How hungry the world is to aid and abet the murderous jihadists of Hamas, whose charter calls for the destruction of Israel.

The latest warship in the trussed-up jihad convoy affectionately named the freedom flotilla ("Arbeit macht frei"), Rachel Corrie, named for the Jew-hating genius, is en route to terror statelet Gaza.

...

The MV Rachel Corrie—thought to be carrying 15 people including a Nobel Prize winner and a former senior United Nations official—is in the Mediterranean en route to Gaza, where it could arrive next Monday.

But the Irish government and activists want urgent assurances from Israel that it will be allowed to dock safely, as 682 people from 42 nations detained Monday in a bloody raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla were deported.

“I again repeat my urgent call to the Israeli government to allow safe passage of the Irish owned vessel, the MV Rachel Corrie, which is still sailing towards Gaza to deliver its consignment of humanitarian aid,” said Irish foreign minister Micheal Martin.

“It is imperative that there should be no further confrontation or bloodshed arising from what has been all along a purely humanitarian mission by those involved in the Gaza flotilla.

...

Islamofascists and their Neo-Nazi allies are reporting that the terror ship “Rachel Corrie” is on its way, and this time the repugnant President of Ireland has invoked Irish sovereignty over the vessel.  Now NATO is joining the IHH sheep chorus.  All they need do is read the Flotilla commentary on the Ayatoilet’s “Press TV” to understand that this incident in an act of aggression paid for by the terrorist government of Iran.  Eight large cargo ships CANNOT be paid for and operated from proceeds of bake sales, etc.  The Ayatoilets wanted an issue that would unite Muslim Brotherhood terrorists with their Hizbollah puppets.  And they got it.  Euro media barely even mention the IHH.  Media has settled on a fiction:  Israel v “human rights” activists.  That is BS.

What, did you actually entertain the thought that these idiots would learn from their mistakes? Oh hell to the no!

Dear IDF: if not torpedoes, then magnetic mines. Surely you guys own a submarine? Send out a few frogmen, attach about a dozen of the limpets to the bottom of the 225 foot ship, then swim away. Make sure you have lots of video rolling that shows your ships are miles and miles away, and that there isn’t a plane in the sky. Then when the St. Pancake crosses your blockade line, after many well-publicized attempts to contact the ship and tell them to turn back or face dire consequences, hit the button. Fa-boom. Straight to the bottom in under 2 minutes. See if you can get the Free Gaza folks to put Cynthia McKinney on board first, m’kay?

LetsFreeGaza — May 31, 2010 — See how we attacked them as soon as they landed on deck!!!! Look closely, we decked one of them with a crowbar!!!

IDF naval personnel encountered severe violence, including use of weaponry prepared in advance in order to attack and to harm them. The forces operated in adherence with operational commands and took all necessary actions in order to avoid violence, but to no avail.

Early this morning, IDF Naval Forces boarded six ships attempting to break the maritime closure of the Gaza Strip. This happened after numerous warnings from Israel and the Israeli Navy that were issued prior to the action. The Israel Navy requested the ships to redirect toward Ashdod where they would be able to unload their aid supplies which would then be transferred over land after undergoing security inspections.
During the boarding of the ships, the demonstrators onboard attacked the IDF Naval personnel with live fire and light weaponry including knives and clubs. Additionally one of the weapons used was grabbed from an IDF soldier. The demonstrators had clearly prepared their weapons in advance for this specific purpose.
As a result of this life-threatening and violent activity, naval forces employed riot dispersal means, as well as live fire.
According to initial reports, these events resulted in the deaths of nine demonstrators and seven naval personnel were injured, some from gunfire and some from various other weapons. Two of the soldiers are moderately wounded and the remainder sustained light injuries. All of the injured, Israelis and foreigners have been evacuated by helicopter to hospitals in Israel.

This was not a humanitarian sail, but a violent provocation directed against us,” said Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Avi Benayahu. “We were attacked with clubs and long knives.”

Yep, that’s how I look at it. As others have said, it was a “whale wars” moment. But, hey, stupid: mess with the Navy, you’re going to get yours.

Short video clips broadcast on television stations showed demonstrators clubbing the navy personnel with metal bars and showed at least one Israeli commando firing.

Israeli military officials said demonstrators attacked the navy personnel with knives and live fire and seized at least one of the soldiers’ weapons.

Did Israel step in it? You betcha, because the entire game was rigged that way in advance. No matter what they had done they were going to be portrayed as the aggressors by most of the world’s media. Guilty until proven guiltier. So, IMO, it’s a damn shame they didn’t kill more of them.

Listen up you dirty hippies: The bit of land called “Gaza” is part of the nation of Israel, and it’s their right to say what gets in or out. Break those rules and they have every right to kill you on the spot.

I am out of patient with this bullshit, and it’s time to strike back. Hard, harder, hardest. 5000 protesters try to break the blockade and drown at sea? Tough shit. Not a tear’s worth of sympathy for a single one, and I hope they all die screaming. This bunch? Gosh, well maybe if the Turkish ferry wasn’t full of Turkish members of the Muslim Brotherhood, with whom IHH (International Humanitaire Hilfsorganization; the CIA has known they are a terrorist front group since 1996 or earlier), the Turkish sponsor of the ship, is closely associated ... terrorists in other words ... maybe if they hadn’t brought weapons with them and attacked the IDF when boarded, then this wouldn’t have happened.

As far as I am concerned, the “free Gaza” protest movement is a front for a terrorist group. They proved that today. Willing dupes at the least. So please, go buy some more cheap boats and try it again. Next time I hope the IDF uses the big guns. Why be stupid and put your soldiers at risk, armed primarily with paint guns? Use torpedoes, missiles, and large caliber artillery instead. Smart bombs from 30,000 feet. There’s a war going on out there, and thank G_d Israel has the nads to actually fight it.

UPDATE: via Theo’s, from Double Tapper, from The Muqata, who got it from IDFSpokesperson: some of the weapons taken away from the “peaceful” protesters on board the ferry Mavi Marmara:

image

Not shown: fire bombs, smoke grenades, gas masks, slingshots, bags bottles and piles of rocks, dozens of metal pipes, etc. This was a deliberately precipitated incident and the people on board the ferry were prepared for, expecting, and looking forward to killing the IDF. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Please visit The Muqata for a superb minute-by-minute recap of these event, with videos, pics, and links galore. One of my favorites from there:

10:15 PM One last Flotilla terror boat reported on the way after being delayed. Could be the “Rachel Corrie”. Maybe the IDF will flatten it like a pancake.

a not so favorite quote, from PMW, but one that shows the reality ... that you won’t see from the MSM:

The following is the transcript from Al-Jazeera TV:
Reporter: “Despite the Israeli threats and several unexpected delays, the arrival of the ships at the meeting point before sailing to the Gaza Strip inflamed the emotions and the enthusiasm of the participants.”
Visuals from Gaza flotilla ship of young Muslims shouting Islamic battle chant invoking the killing and defeat of Jews in battle:
“[Remember] Khaibar, Khaibar, oh Jews! The army of Muhammad will return!”
[Khaibar is the name of last Jewish village defeated by Muhammad’s army and it marked the end of Jewish presence in Arabia in 628.]
Reporter: “While singing songs reminiscent of the Palestinian Intifada (Palestinian terror war against Israel, 2000 - 2005), participants expressed their longing to reach Gaza.”
A participant: “Right now we face one of two happy endings: either Martyrdom or reaching Gaza.” [Based on Islamic call before battle: “Either victory or Martyrdom”.]
[Al-Jazeera TV, May 29, 2010]

Hamas’s Al-Aqsa TV chose to glorify flotilla participants who shouted the Islamic battle cry by broadcasting an interview with a university lecturer who referred to them as “those with faith and will.”

...

Al-Jazeera also reports that before the confrontation, flotilla participants announced that they would use “resistance” against Israel.  Mukawama (resistance) is the Arabic term used by Palestinians to refer to all violence against Israel, including suicide terror.

“The flotilla includes hundreds of Arab and foreign solidarity activists from more than 40 countries ... They have announced their determination to use resistance to any attempt at piracy by the Israeli occupation.”
[Al-Jazeera website, May 29, 2010]

So no, MSNBC et al, this wasn’t an “Israeli Raid against peaceful protesters”. This was a defensive action against a known radical group bent on violence. Pizzas all around for the IDF ... and next time sink them all and leave them for shark bait.

All The World’s A Stage …

And All The Player’s Must Play Their Parts ...

“Break The Siege” “Aide” flotilla closes on Gaza as Israeli Navy steams out to intercept.

The Audacity of the Free Gaza Flotilla
Breaking the Israeli Siege of Gaza May Lead to an Attack at Sea, Detention Camps and Deportation

by Ann Wright

By the time you read this, we will be on the high seas of the Mediterranean (we hope the seas will not be too high).

Our two U.S. flagged Free Gaza boats, will join two other passenger ships, a 600 passenger ship from Turkey sponsored by the Turkish humanitarian organization, Insani Yardim Vakfi (IHH) and a 50 passenger ship from Athens sponsored by the European Campaign Against the Siege and the Greek/Swedish Ships to Gaza campaign, to sail to the shores of Gaza to break the Israeli naval blockade of the 1.5 million citizens in Gaza.

Four cargo ships from Ireland, Greece, Algeria and Turkey, will carry a total of 10,000 tons or 2 million pounds of construction materials for the housing of 50,000 made homeless during the 22 day Israeli attack on Gaza that killed 1440 Palestinians and wounded 5,000.

Many of us would like to see our boat renamed “The Audacity of Hope” as that is what we want to see from the Obama administration-- courage to challenge the Israeli government on the siege of Gaza.  It would be a really brave, bold move as every U.S. presidential administration since the formation of the State of Israeli in 1948 has blindly given free-rein to Israel in whatever actions it wishes to undertake no matter if the actions are a violation of international law.  The carte blanche given to Israel by the United States has been dangerous for Israel’s national security as well as for the national security of the United States.

Probable reaction of Israeli Navy Ships-Bow shots, ramming or boarding

In less than 48 hours, the Israeli Navy will probably fire U.S. made ammunition and rockets in international waters over the bows of two U.S. flagged boats and one Greek boat with U.S. citizens aboard as well as citizens from 13 other countries and over the bows of the Turkish 600 passenger ship.

Sorry, didn’t mean to make you gag with the above jizz-fest. Oooh, look at us, boldly sailing into harm’s way for peace! We’re the Freedom Flotilla Coalition even! Oooh, it could get nasty, but we’re so brave! Oooh, the dramas, the glory! Look how righteous we are, won’t this make a great story to tell next semester back at the all-organic vegetarian non-discriminating food co-op at college? Ooh, we’re such totally cool radical activists!!! Plus, we’ve even got Noam Chomsky on board!!

It’s a total crock of crap. So is this, albeit a little bit less so:

Israeli gunships head to sea to block flotilla

HAIFA, Israel – Israeli gunships headed out to sea Friday to stop a flotilla of pro-Palestinian activists from reaching the Gaza Strip, the military said, setting the stage for what could become a dramatic showdown on the high seas.

Israel’s foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, said the country was prepared to stop the flotilla “at any cost.” He called the aid mission a provocation and urged the international community to show understanding for the tough response.

“We really have all determination and political will to prevent this provocation against us,” he said. “I think that we’re ready at any cost ... to prevent this provocation.”

Military officials said an initial group of gunships went out to sea Friday to prepare for the flotilla’s arrival. But plans to dispatch additional gunships were put on hold late Friday after reports that the flotilla had encountered mechanical problems, military officials said.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity under military guidelines, said the gunships would remain in port until the flotilla got closer.

The military says it will intercept the ships, escort the vessels to shore and give the activists the choice of deportation or going to jail. Israel says that after a security check, it will transfer the cargo to Gaza through the United Nations.

Officials say they hope the situation will be resolved peacefully, but they are prepared to use force if necessary. Masked naval commandos have been trained for the mission, and Israel has built a large makeshift detention center in a southern port to process the activists.

Guess which ship is the big cargo hauler on this grand flotilla? Why, it’s none other than the freshly painted MV Rachel Corrie, that I wrote about 5 weeks back! And what was the plan then, if not agreed upon by both parties but certainly public knowledge?

the ship would be forced to dock in Ashdod, where the cargo would be unloaded and searched, and if found to be of a humanitarian nature, sent to Gaza via land crossings.

... and that is exactly what is going to happen. But first all the players have to take the stage, play their little roles, and hope for some attention from the press. Well, they got some. A little. At first they had to make their own press releases ...

[Istanbul, Turkey – 22 May, 2010] Amid cheers and waving of Turkish and Palestinian flags, the second ship to join the Freedom Flotilla left Istanbul this afternoon. Sponsored by the Turkish humanitarian organization, Insani Yardim Vakfi (IHH), the ship will carry 600 passengers to Gaza as part of the ‘blockade busting’ flotilla. It joins eight other boats coming from three other countries carrying 10,000 tons of supplies to the Palestinian people, supplies that have been denied to them by Israel.

Boats will meet in the Mediterranean, then turn toward Gaza to arrive at its beseiged slice of beachfront by the end of May. Free Gaza Movement’s MV Rachel Corrie is already on her way from Ireland and is presently off the coast of Portugal loaded with cement, paper and supplies for school children and medical equipment.

But eventually the world press, or at least the busy pens in the UK, having nothing better to do this weekend, gave them a few column inches ...

Gaza aid flotilla to set sail for confrontation with Israel

Israelis promise to stop eight ships carrying 10,000 tonnes of aid, 800 activists and politicians from more than 40 countries

A flotilla of eight boats carrying thousands of tonnes of construction materials, medical equipment and other aid is preparing to sail to Gaza in the next few days, setting the scene for a confrontation with Israel which has vowed to prevent the ships breaking the blockade on the Palestinian territory.

Three cargo ships and five passenger vessels plan to meet up in international waters between Cyprus and Gaza Strip before heading towards Gaza City. The Israeli military is expected to stop the flotilla and divert it to the Israeli port of Ashdod.
...
Mark Regev, the Israeli prime minister’s spokesman, said: “It is strange that human rights activists are acting as apologists for a regime that is brutally repressing human rights. Hamas oppresses women, gays and Christians, has crushed independent media and destroyed all political opposition.” He added that 15,000 tonnes of aid was allowed into Gaza every week.

Dozens of boats manned by Israeli citizens took the water at the weekend in protest at the aid flotilla.

Gaza hopes to welcome blockade-busting flotilla

Preparations are under way in Gaza to receive a convoy of ships that is trying to break Israel’s economic blockade of the Palestinian territory. The ships, carrying up to 10,000 tonnes of aid and human rights activists from around the world, will try to reach Gaza on Sunday. Israel is adamant it will not allow them into Gaza.
...
Israel has called the flotilla “a cheap political stunt” and the government’s press officers have been working hard all week to brief journalists that it is unnecessary. Israel says it allows 15,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid into Gaza every week.

While the Israeli authorities have indicated they want to minimise the risk of violence, Israeli media reported yesterday that they are prepared to take over the vessels by force if they ignore warnings not to cross from international waters into a 20 mile exclusion zone enforced by Israel along Gaza’s coast.

Mark Regev, a spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, accused the participants of mounting a “cheap publicity stunt” and said that if they had been “really interested in the well-being of the people of Gaza they would have accepted the offers of Egypt or Israel to transfer humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, along with the other 15,000 tons sent every week.”

Israel has previously said that if the flotilla agreed to head for the port of Ashdod it would send the aid supplies on to Gaza. Ordinarily, supplies to the Gaza strip are subject to a strict blockade that excludes most commercial goods, although those conditions would not necessarily apply to the flotilla.

What’s in the cargo? Well part of it is 180 motorized wheelchairs. For all the poor disabled children. Except that Gaza has no paved roads or electricity. My guess is those wheelchair motors and battery packs will be turned into robotic bomb delivery systems inside a couple days. Fire extinguishers fill another pallet in the hold; their steel cases make perfect bomb shrapnel. And crutches - all made from metal tubing, not wood. Quite a lot of “dual use” stuff, if you look at the manifest that way. I don’t expect them to make it past the security search in Ashdod.

So we have our little bit of theater, but like yet another Die Hard movie, everyone knows the entire plot, script, and ending before they even go to the show. Kinda silly, isn’t it? Aengus links to a bunch of Flickr pics.

Aye, they’re taking Aengus too laddie!
