Oops, wrong fence

News from up North ...

Indians arrested on Russian-Finnish border

Russian police this week arrested four Indian citizens suspected of having planned to illegally cross the Russian-Finnish border.
The Indians were arrested by FSB officials in Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, on Tuesday this week, Regnum reports with reference to the regional FSB press service.

All the four individuals now face trial on charges of attempted trespassing. The maximum penalty for the offence is five years.

Russia has a border fence with Finland. Guys from INDIA try to sneak over. INDIA??? How the EFF did they get there in the first place? Problem is, this is what they found on the other side of that fence:

SEND US YOUR NEEDY AND GREEDY: IMMIGRANTS GUIDE TO FLEECING ‘SOFT’ BRITAIN.

NO, THE BRIT ON THE STREET DOESN’T LIKE IT. YEAH, PPL COMPLAIN BUT ARE ANSWERED IN PLATITUDES AS THE RIP OFF CONTINUES. AND NOT JUST THE POLES BY ANY MEANS.

Polish immigrants’ guide to fleecing ‘soft’ Britain
A guide to exploiting “soft” British laws has been published for Poles emigrating to the UK.

By Richard Edwards, Crime Correspondent
Last Updated: 5:07PM BST 21 Aug 2008

It shows how to avoid electricity bills and tax, rent flats for free and con insurance companies.

The scams, published in Polish magazine Przeglad, are revealed by Polish workers already living in Britain.

One man, quoted as a Polish criminal expert, said that cheating the system had became a way of life under decades of Communist rule.

“Once you’ve cheated the Communist government and the Iron Curtain and the Soviet states, running rings around British Gas is child’s play,” he explained.

A worker called Tomek suggested opening electricity and gas accounts with bogus personal details. He said: “How can I pay bills that aren’t addressed to me? The accounting system in England is based on trust, that’s why you can phone and give them data plucked out of thin air.”

Another man recommends renting a house in a made-up name, then immediately stopping rent payments because tenancy laws mean it will be months before they are evicted. In the meantime the property is sublet to dozens of others.

Expensive mobile phones are insured and then reported “stolen”. Once the insurers pay out, the cheats pocket the cash and sell the “stolen” phone back home in Poland for a £100 profit.

Another man tells how he never pays for a television licence, electricity or gas bills - but boasts that he has never been cut off.

“In Poland it would be unheard of - they would have cut everything off long ago,” he said. “And you’d have to be an idiot to register the TV.”

IMMIGRATION ANYONE?

with h/t to barb for sending me this and Drew who told me where the embed was.  Missed it cause it looked greyed out. Anyway, some of you folks may have seen this already.  For those who haven’t, watch it ....  and boy oh boy do the Brits know about this sort of thing.

The quality isn’t perfect but the sound is all ya need.

The following comment is from Drew

A local hospital has forced itself into bankruptcy because they were bleeding money from all the illegals using the place. They might re-open as a private special treatment center, but as a hospital they’re gone. They will also open a non-emergency emergency room, ie a clinic, for all the pore, starvin, and illegals.

Woman jailed for smuggling baby, UK so willing to help. But this time a gremlin got caught.

And her name is Peace?  What kinda silly sounding name is that. But then, these folks have a record of odd names.
Anyway, at least this one time the con didn’t work.  What’s scary is how many that have.
And pity the taxpayer.  You don’t think they’ll send the kid back where it belongs do ya?

By June Kelly
Home affairs correspondent, BBC News

Peace Sandberg had said she gave birth to the child
A Nigerian woman has been jailed for 26 months for bringing a child illegally into the UK. Peace Sandberg, who was living in the UK, went to Nigeria and bought a baby to become eligible for a council flat, Isleworth Court Court heard.

She was convicted last month of bringing a child illegally into the UK.

She was reported to police after she initially told council staff she had given birth to the boy, then changed her story to say he was adopted.

Sandberg had a daughter who was living with her in council accommodation in the borough of Ealing in west London.

With dual nationality - Nigerian and Swedish - she knew that as a European citizen working in the UK she would be eligible for a council flat because she had a child.

(ah yes. the old child ploy. something I mentioned in a post yesterday. Y’all come in, the ratepayer of the UK will take care of ya. Do Brits have an equivalent
for Y’all? )

But her daughter left the UK and moved to Sweden to live with her father, Sandberg’s ex-husband.

With her daughter’s departure Sandberg saw her hopes of a new home slipping away - which is when she hatched her plan to get a child.

At the end of 2006 she flew back to Nigeria.

She had already sent £150 which the police believe was payment for the baby boy.

She needed a visa to take him into the UK.

During the trial Andrea Charles, a visa officer at the British High Commission in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, described to the jury how a distraught Sandberg turned up with the baby.

There is a possibility this child will never know his true identity

She claimed she had given birth to him in Nigeria because she wanted him to qualify for a Nigerian passport.

Ms Charles said she had no reason to doubt her story and issued the visa.

When Sandberg arrived back at Heathrow airport she immediately went to the housing department.

Councillor Ian Green of Ealing Council says: “She told staff that the child was hers. But they had seen her only a few months before and knew that the child couldn’t be hers as she wasn’t pregnant at the time.

“She then changed her story and said she had adopted the child.

“Council officers were still not satisfied and alerted the police and the other authorities because they were of the opinion that she was using this child to gain council accommodation.”

A criminal investigation was launched by the Metropolitan Police’s Paladin Team, specialists in child trafficking.

Isolated case?

Det Insp Gordon Valentine, who heads Paladin, said: “This was clearly a case of trafficking.

“Peace Sandberg is a heartless woman. She brought the baby from his home environment for the purpose of her own ends without any regard for the future of that child.”

Child protection campaigners believe this is not an isolated case.

(duh ... be really blind, deaf and stupid if they did.)

Christine Beddoe, director of the children’s charity ECPAT UK, said: “We get information brought to us about suspicions of child trafficking particularly for housing benefit fraud from social services and from children’s organisations.

“They don’t seem to be reported to the police. But we do believe it is much more widespread than people think.”

Social services have been unable to find the child’s real family in Nigeria.

He is now in foster care and looks set to be adopted and grow up in the UK.

(oh bloody great. The UK really needs another one. but then, this is a rich country. Right? And what’s yours rate payer, well it’s theirs as well. )

Det Insp Valentine says: “There is a possibility this child will never know his true identity.”

Jobs Americans Won’t Do

I like to be in America!
O.K. by me in America!
Ev’rything free in America
For a small fee in America!

Well, the rain has gone away and it’s one of the eight perfect Spring days we’re allocated here in New Jersey. Which means the siding crew is back to work again. We’ve got at least two dozen guy out here working on this building and the one next to it. Not one of them speaks a word of English, other than “hi!” and “no English!”. Immigrants have completely taken over the construction trades around here, along with all the rennovation and landscaping work. Good luck finding a painter who you can communicate with, other than the foreman. Are they legal? Who knows. The game is Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

This is not a small project. This is a $5,000,000 contract to reside all 33 buildings with their 438 units. Funny how no Americans want to do this kind of work anymore. And it’s not like these guys are out there breaking their asses. They’re working, sure, but not hard enough to break a sweat. Just like Americans.

I like the shores of America!
Comfort is yours in America!
Knobs on the doors in America,
Wall-to-wall floors in America!

NCCC flip flops

Not much of a news story, but it’s One Small Step for North Carolina Community College, One Giant Leap for America. Oh, I hope so.

No More Illegal Aliens at NC Community Colleges

North Carolina’s community colleges will no longer admit illegal immigrants, returning to more restrictive policy on the advice of the state Attorney General’s Office.

Last year, the system said it would enroll illegal immigrants who are 18 years old and high school graduates at all of its 58 campuses. The policy provoked heavy criticism, especially from the leading candidates for governor.

The system later asked North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper for guidance on whether the admissions policy was legal under federal law. Last week, Cooper’s office suggested the system drop the admissions policy.

On Tuesday, the community colleges said it would follow the advice from Cooper’s office.

Expect the protest rallies to being tomorrow. Quick, somebody make up some “usted no puede” banners, ASAP!

Another Chicken Shit Raid By ICE

Hundreds arrested in immigration raids at poultry plants

{a note for non-American readers: Chicken Shit is a crass American term for something unimportant yet annoying, mired in excessive detail and rules. It’s the government in action, giving you a lecture about using lead-free paint on your house while it burns to the ground.}

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas (AP)—Federal agents say their case for a series of workplace raids in five states was strengthened by identity theft victims who recounted stories of plummeting credit scores and medical benefits denied.

Federal authorities carried out the sweeps Wednesday, arresting hundreds of workers at Pilgrim’s Pride chicken plants on charges of identity theft, document fraud and immigration violations.

Can I paraphrase Ronnie here? “There they go again.” Another raid by ICE against another chicken processing plant. Do these guys work for the Cattlemen’s Association or something? What is there beef with chickens? Of COURSE the chicken processing plants are staffed chock full of illegals. Chicken processing sucks! It’s an awful job, hard, gross, low paying, and somewhat dangerous. ICE could go into each and every plant in the country, every day, and come out with a trainload of illegals from each one. But this time ICE was there because of identity theft. Hey, wait a second, didn’t some lefty judge rule last month that using a stolen ID to get a job was OK? I guess there was more to it than that this time.

Authorities also arrested dozens of workers at a doughnut factory in Houston, and the operators of a chain of Mexican restaurants in upstate New York.  Authorities said agents investigating a scheme to provide documents for illegal immigrant workers had tracked down several of the identity theft victims.
...
Pittsburg, Texas-based Pilgrim’s Pride worked with ICE agents ahead of the operation, company spokesman Ray Atkinson said. It also reported suspicion of identity theft at an Arkansas plant.

So the whole company is packed with illegals using false IDs, and they’re connected to other groups of illegals using false IDs. Gee, color me surprised.

More than 100 people were arrested on immigration violations in Chattanooga, Tenn., and they could face criminal charges related to identity theft, the agency said. Another 100 were arrested on immigration charges in Moorefield, W.Va.

More than 25 people face immigration violation charges in Live Oak, Fla. They will also face identity theft or document fraud charges, ICE said. More than 20 were arrested in Batesville, Ark., on federal warrants for alleged document fraud or identity theft.

Yep, “we’re all connected”. Raids in Texas, New York, Tennessee, West Virginia, Florida, Arkansas. So what will it be this time ICE? Another Catch ‘n Release, as if you’re out flyfishing for trout? Or are you actually going to charge these people this time, then let them out on really low bail so that they skip town? Hey, maybe they’ll just get drunk first and drive away. I hear there’s a school bus or two down thataway ...

It isn’t even an “open secret” that the poultry plants run on illegal labor. It’s blatant. And what does the government do? Nada thing. These are BS raids. Sure, the charges are real, but they won’t go anywhere, because 1) the perps are using false names, duh, and will skip on bail, and 2) ICE is just going through the motions. They’ve done their “good deed” for the quarter, and now they’ll slink back to their little cubicles again. If any of these illegals actually do get deported, it’s almost a guarantee that they’ll be dropped off at the special Revolving Door Border Crossing and they’ll all be right back working at the same chicken plants inside a month, using a different false/stolen ID.

The only thing newsy in this story isn’t even in the story: which politician is going to try and claim credit for it?

Downgrade and Delay - the border fence will never be built

‘Virtual Fence’ Along Ariz.-Mexico Border Delayed Three Years

PHOENIX — Homeland Security officials have told federal lawmakers that the “virtual fence” along the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona doesn’t meet contract requirements for detecting border intrusions and some of its technology will have to replaced by this summer.

Agency officials, testifying Wednesday before the oversight panel of the House Homeland Security Committee in Washington, D.C., said plans to expand the system to the Yuma, Ariz., and El Paso, Texas, areas will be pushed back three years to 2011 because of technological deficiencies.

The 28-mile virtual fence will use radars and surveillance cameras to try to catch people entering the country illegally.

The Sasabe network, called Project 28, was intended as a cornerstone of the government’s multibillion-dollar border strategy.

Critics say contractor Boeing Corp. never consulted border agents before engineering the system.

A Boeing executive testified that the company spent more than double the value of the $20 million contract to set things right and is now refining the network.

The Department of Homeland Security awarded Boeing a $64 million contract to improve the network in December, two months before the government accepted the Sasabe work.

Amy Kudwa, a Homeland Security spokeswoman, said that the virtual fence is not in full operation and that the agency continues to test the system.

Aw crap. This is so typical. We just have to have the most high-tech, gizmo laden, expensive “solution” possible. And surprise!! It doesn’t work. The Virtual Fence is a BAD IDEA. It does not stop people coming over. It can only alert the already overworked border security people, who have to come from miles away, that tresspassers are present. And when they do get the dumb ass thing in place, watch it trip over every roadrunner, raccoon, and coyote in the neighborhood. And what happens when 5000 people rush the border at the same time??

What does work? Glad you asked:

a new week, a new crop of idiots. First contender

Illegal Aliens Rear End Homeland Security Vehicle

January 29th, 2008 @ 4:22pm
by Jayme West/KTAR Newsroom; Photo by Doug Murphy/Ahwatukee Foothills News

Normally, a non-injury rear-end collision wouldn’t warrant a news story. But in an ironic twist, this crash involved a van full of illegal immigrants which slammed into an SUV owned by the Department of Homeland Security.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the Chrysler van was heading west Tuesday morning when it was involved in a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash near the Elliot Road off-ramp. Harold Sanders with DPS said, “the 11 illegal immigrants inside the van were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”

There were no reports of any injuries, despite the fact that the van was overloaded.

The passengers inside could have been moving targets for other vehicular danger. “The van was not designed to hold 11 people,” Sanders said. “That’s based on the amount of seat positions. I believe there were only two or three passenger seats.”

How much you wanna bet they didn’t have any insurance either?

A Picket Fence Instead

The 2006 Secure Fence Act specifically called for “two layers of reinforced fencing” and listed five specific sections of border where it should be installed.  When congress passed their spending bill last night, how do you think it came out?

Spending bill shrinks border fence

Congress last night passed a giant new spending bill that undermines current plans for a U.S.-Mexico border fence, allowing the Homeland Security Department to build a single-tier barrier rather than the two-tier version that has worked in California.

The spending bill, written by Democrats and passed 253-154 with mostly their votes, surrenders to President Bush’s budget demands, meeting his spending limit with a $515 billion bill to fund most of the federal government and setting up votes to pay for the Iraq war. But Democrats reached his goal in part by slashing his defense and foreign-aid priorities to pay for added domestic spending.

I don’t mind slashing some foreign aid, but defense cuts and domestic spending increases?  Good grief, if we don’t secure the border, there won’t be anything domestic to spend it on.

Shamnesty Rears Its Ugly Head Again

Michelle, of course, is on top of it.

Here’s the latest. Numbers USA says the Senate “will resume consideration of H.R. 1585, the Defense Department authorization bill for fiscal year 2008, at 10:30 a.m” today…

The floor vote on the amendment containing the DREAM Act amnesty — new number: SA 2919 — may occur tomorrow. It will take 41 NO votes to kill this amnesty. Currently, only 20 Senators are telling their constituents that they will vote NO on the amnesty.
The Senate switchboard number again is 202-224-3121.

Grassfire.org reports a tsunami of faxes flooding the Capitol in opposition to the DREAM Act.

John Hawkins gathers intel from a Hill source.

Call and write.  Let’s stop this thing......again.

Moral Conundrum

A couple of weeks ago, our church did an outreach to the local area.  For three days we partnered with a local contractor and did some work on local homes that were in dire need of repair.  Then in the evenings, in the local park, we conducted a “kid’s camp” for any and all kids that were there.  Kind of like a Vacation Bible School, but at the park.

One lady who had her kids there was a Hispanic woman with two boys: age 10 and 2.  They had a great time and in the course of the week, we found out she really wanted to learn English so she could get a job.  She had been watching kids in her home, but since they were all Spanish speakers, it was no problem.

So my wife and I and another lady from the church have been meeting her and her kids in the park twice a week now to let our kids play together while we help her with English.  She is a quick study and very smart.  I’m confident that she will be conversational within a month of twice-a-week lessons.

I have not asked directly yet, but my suspicion is that she is probably here illegally.  From what I’ve gathered, her and her husband came from Mexico about 10 years ago to California.  They recently moved to the east coast to be closer to family.

Now, you’ve seen my posts on illegal immigration and know that I’m staunchly against it.  I firmly believe it is an affront to those who stood in line and followed the process.
But now there’s a name and a face and a family to go with that opinion.

I would not turn them in at this point, mainly because I’m not sure they are illegal (I can speak a good bit of Spanish, but do not consider myself fluent) as well as my feeling that it would not accomplish anything meaningful.  Here are a couple of pretty productive, smart and resourceful individuals (who also have two American sons).  I doubt they would get sent anywhere at this point.

So here’s the conundrum:  Do I continue to help her learn English in hopes that she can progress a little in society and be more productive?  Or do I drop the lessons, claiming the moral high ground because of my stance on illegal immigration?

Mediations on Immigration Reform

LawDog is one of my daily stops.  This one nails it.

In 1986 the Congress of the United States of America passed a comprehensive immigration law, otherwise known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act.

In 1986, the Senators of these United States and the Representatives of these United States stood in front of the people of the United States and declared that this new law was guaranteed to control our borders.

In 1986, these Congress-critters stood in front of the citizens of the United States who had put them in office, and whom they were sworn to serve, and they solemnly promised that this new law would stop employers from hiring undocumented—illegal—immigrants.

The cost of this, they murmured piously, was that the United States would have to grant amnesty to the estimated three million illegal immigrants who were “hiding in the shadows” at the time.

Do this one thing, they promised us, and we will control the borders. Amnesty for no more than three million, and we will stop employers from hiring new illegal immigrants.

They lied.

Don’t bother with protestations—the Congress lied to the American People.

Oh, not about what would come to be called “la amnestia”—no, on that the Congress of the United States went above and beyond their call of duty.

No, Congress lied about controlling our borders. And Congress lied about preventing employers from hiring new illegal aliens.

Now, twenty-one years after the deed, the Senate of the United States, in their colossal arrogance, believed that the American people had forgotten that they had been lied to in the past about “immigration reform”—or believed that those of us who did remember would happily forgive Congress for lying to us about “immigration reform” in the past.
