FER ALL A YOU GUN TOTIN’ WILD WEST BUCK-A-ROOS BACK IN THE USA,

Here’s about the shortest post I’ve ever done and sorry no link but it comes from The Telegraph originally.

By that I mean, that’s where I found it.  Ya ready?

AIR RIFLE USED TO CONFRONT TEENAGERS

HA. EXCEPT THE DAMN THING WASN’T LOADED BUT NEVER MIND.  AN ARREST WAS MADE BY THE KEYSTONE KOPS.

A grandfather has been arrested after using an unloaded air rifle to confront a gang of “youths” who had fired rockets at his house.

Alan Parker, 62, said he finally “snapped” when fireworks rained down on his house.

He was given a caution for possessing a fire arm with the intent to cause “FEAR OF VIOLENCE.”

-end-

So, what do ya think people?  Justice served? The youths must be shaking in their boots. From laughter.

This isn’t even funny.  So it’s simply a caution.  It should have been a medal he was given.

Obama and the 2nd Amendment

I’m not going to go into detail about the anti-2nd Amendment votes and policies of B. Hussein Obama. You can read about them at GunBaNObama.com

I’m on the mailing list for the U.S. Concealed Carry Association. I wanted to get their Armed American Report that is emailed every Friday. The problem is the daily spam urging me to join the USCCA. I can’t class it as ‘junk’ for my spam filter as it is from the same sender as what I want. (sigh.)

It’s likely that I will ultimately join the USCCA, but not until after at least getting some training with my new toys. (training was supposed to start this weekend, but I’ve been ORDERED to work tomorrow. . . heavy sigh! They tried to order me in today, but I had an appointment with the local county government to challenge my new property valuation. They couldn’t order me to cancel an appointment with a government agency.)

In this week’s edition of the Armed American Report was the following:

I’m sure you’ve heard of the organization called “Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership”

Err, actually, no I’ve not heard of it.

more commonly known simply as the JPFO. If you know anything about these guys, you’ll know that they pull absolutely ZERO punches with the way they operate, and they take our God-Given right to self defense, and the Second Amendment VERY, VERY seriously- and I have a LOT of respect for what they do.

Well, if I merely respected the JPFO before, I admire and honor them now. Just wait until you see the absolutely beautiful FREE video they have made about the Second Amendment.

It’s called “2A Today for the USA”, and that’s exactly the message that it conveys. It’s only about 20 minutes long, and it’s an absolute MUST watch.

Having now watched it I agree. It is a MUST. Well, they are a must, it’s divided into three segments, which I will include below the fold so as not to slow the page too much . . .

Equal Opportunity Gun Ownership

Oleg Volk is an artist and activist.  His photos on self-protection are deep and striking.  So when a site called “Social Images” published a number of his posters in an attempt to demonize the “gun culture”, the grassroots have come to call a spade a spade.

Wander over and politely toss in your $.02.

Some of the first comments come from the left:image

These are bizarre and terrifying, but I’m not sure how widely spread they are. I’m not sure it is right to attribute them to the “pro-gun lobby.” I’m not sure what the “pro-gun lobby” is in this case. The website these images come from seems to be the project of one individual. Are these images used by the NRA?

I just want to clarify where these come from. It seems relevant. They totally freak me out, don’t get me wrong, but I need a little more information before I make any judgements about the site they come from. Incidentally, they seem to come from this website originally. Not the t-shirt website.

The idea that the only way we think we can make a safer, better society is for everyone to carry a gun is incredibly sad. It’s also individualistic--the answer to racism, rape, and gay bashing is to carry a gun, not have any form of social organizing.

And I doubt that if women started shooting men who attempt to rape them that would be seen as “empowering” in our culture--particularly since most women are raped by people they know. We’re already suspicious of women who say they were raped by someone they were on a date with; what happens when women start shooting them? I’m doubtful this will be accepted as a positive change. image Remember the reaction to Lorena Bobbitt? She didn’t exactly meet with social approval--and she didn’t kill him.

I grew up in rural Oklahoma, surrounded by guns. And I know what it’s like to have one family member using guns as a way to control another. I don’t think that my mom or us kids would have been “empowered"--or safer--if only she’d been willing to use a gun too.

The Holocaust ones are particularly offensive. When the agents of the totalitarian state come for you, they always come in groups. What are you going to do, pull your gun and have three of them shoot you before you can shoot one of them? Either way, you’re just as dead.

A friend of mine was trans-bashed in Baltimore by a gang of six guys. A gun wouldn’t have helped him, and in fact might have gotten him shot with his own gun—you can really only point a handgun at one person at a time.

The solution to reducing crime isn’t more guns, it’s a better-functioning society.

Of course, Oleg got to answer the detractors

As the author of the images, I am curious what makes them terrifying to you. The aim of my effort is to empower others.

What was their collective response?  [cue crickets]

(Drew decided this needed a couple of Volk’s pics so he stuck them in.)

Gunfire at 30,000 feet! Oops!!

Oh BS, he was playing with it while the other guys watched and you know it

Pilot’s gun discharges on US Airways flight 4:15 PM

12:14 PM EDT on Monday, March 24, 2008

By DIANA RUGG / WCNC
E-mail Diana: DRugg@wcnc.com

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- A gun carried by a US Airways pilot accidentally discharged during a flight from Denver to Charlotte Saturday, according to a statement released by the airline.

The statement said the discharge happened on Flight 1536, which left Denver at approximately 6:45 a.m. and arrived in Charlotte at approximately 11:51 a.m.

The Airbus A319 plane landed safely and none of the flight’s 124 passengers or five crew members was injured, according to the statement. It was a full flight. An airline spokeswoman said the plane has been taken out of service to make sure it is safe to return to flight.

WCNC’s Mark Boone talked to a US Airways spokesperson on Monday, who said she did not know if the plane was still grounded. A source told WCNC that the plane remains inside a hanger at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman reached by WCNC Sunday said the pilot is part of TSA’s Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program, which trains pilots to carry guns on flights. Andrea McCauley said the gun discharged in the cockpit, but she could not release how the gun was being transported at the time. She did not release the pilot’s name, but said he was authorized to carry the weapon and was last requalified in the FFDO program last November.

A statement from TSA said the airplane was never in danger, and the TSA and the Federal Air Marshals Service are investigating the incident.

Chiz Whiz on a smoking cracker, who the hell was flying the plane, Jayson Williams? He’s the only guy I’ve ever heard of with a “legally proven” accidental discharge. Every single other time it’s ALWAYS “idiot gets near trigger, does something stupid”, because lack of attention and unsafe behavior can turn any of us into instant idiots. On the 3rd hand, I wonder what kind of gun airline pilots are allowed to carry onboard? This story makes me think it ought to be a double action revolver with a strong trigger pull, a transfer bar, and a bobbed hammer. Awfully hard to set them off by accident.

PS - Jayson Williams’ attorneys are trying to “pull a Fuhrman” on his retrial ... which has been dragging on for 4 years now and still hasn’t gone as far as jury selection.

Why Do You Need A Gun…..at Wendy’s?

Palm Beach Post

Witness: Wendy’s shooter was tall man in business suit

Five people were shot today during lunch time at the Wendy’s on North Military Trail and Cherry Road near West Palm Beach, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Two people are dead, including the gunman, who killed himself, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera. She said a total of five people were shot and three are in critical condition.

The shooting happened at 12:18 p.m.

The Trauma Hawk helicopter has left the scene. Cherry Road is blocked off and victims are being loaded from stretchers onto ambulances. There are dozens of emergency vehicles at the scene.

Witness Jerry Pritcherd, 20, of Fort Myers, said he heard a pop and didn’t realize it was gunshots. He said he was “scared” when he heard about 20 pops and ran out. He said he was 10 feet away from the shooter, who was a tall black man wearing a business suit.

A father and son, Richard and Richard Anon of Miami, were just leaving a John Smith Subs restaurant across Military Trail when they saw customers running out of the Wendy’s. “We thought there was a fight in the parking lot. Everyone was just running out,” said the elder Anon.

They saw two people run outside and collapse in the drive-thru lane. They said police arrived withing two minutes of the shooting and ordered everyone out of the restaurant with their hands up.

Witness Ashley Milton, of Riviera Beach, was just walking into the restaurant when the suspect opened fire. She said the restaurant was starting to get busy and that people started running out.

Asked if she got a good look at the gunman, she said, “No, I was just focused on the gun. I just saw the fire coming from the gun.” She said her ears were still ringing from the gunshots more than an hour after the shooting.

Southbound Military Trail is open, while Northbound Military Trail remains closed in the area between Okeechobee and Belvedere roads.

One man walking around the scene pointed to a tear in his jeans and bottom of a work boot, where a bullet grazed him.

“I was just sitting there eating a burger and the guy started shooting.”

Nearly 700 guns. Mostly military rarities. Includes dozens of machine guns, a few bazookas, a couple mortars and so forth. Also many fine old shotguns.

Absolved

Absolved

by Mike Vanderboegh

Phil Gordon felt old, sick, tired and cranky. Cancer did that to you, but he didn’t have to like it. Still, Phil had one more thing to do before crossing the bar and he prayed to the God of Abraham that he would have the time and the strength to do it. He shifted in his recliner, taking in the photographs on the side wall, a life in brief, partially illuminated by the soft glow of the porch light angling in through the windowpane above the front door.

pissin into the wind

NJ went and passed the bill I wrote about yesterday, with only small modifications. Once again the state chips away at my freedoms. Well, let’s try writing some letters. Yeah, not only will they get read, they’ll make a difference. I’ll get an intelligent response from my Senator, and my words will cause the Governor to toss this bill in the garbage where it belongs. As if.

Dear Governor Corzine

Please do not sign bill S2470/A2602. There are major flaws in this piece of legislation. It is one more mostly useless gun law that will do nothing to deter criminal behavior, while making honest citizens paper criminals.

It is impossible to determine if any given cartridge is designed to be used only in a handgun, as this bill now reads, because almost every cartridge ever made has been chambered in both rifles and handguns.

Unless things have recently changed, the firearms ID card in some towns is very primitive and can easily be forged. New Jersey is a small state and it would be a short trip to PA or NY where anyone could buy as much ammunition as they want with no IDs necessary, or have an out of state friend mail them some. It is beyond simple to get hold of ammunition; this bill will not even slow the criminals down.

The application of this law is not made clearly in the bill as written. Given a criminal in possession of a box of bullets, there is no way to tell if it will applied once or 50 times for that possession.

The definition NJ is using for ammunition includes the component parts. As far as I can tell this bill would criminalize people who collect range brass - fired ammo - for recycling. That’s just wrong.

I support measures to reduce criminal violence, but I feel this bill is no more than showboating. It will do nothing to deter anyone, and will likely be plea-bargained away immediately. Please don’t add one more useless law to the books.

batbat

Dear Senator Lance, 23rd District;

Now that you have voted for Bill S2470/A2602 and it has passed:

How will this bill impact mail order ammunition companies operating in New Jersey? I noticed that New Jersey is using the Federal definition of ammunition, which includes the component parts as well - the primers, brass cases, bullets, and gunpowder. Thus this bill applies both to retailers who sell live ammunition and to those who sell ammunition components. Very few of these retailers have a shooting range right there in their store and rely on mail orders for a large percent of their income. Did you just put all these companies out of business?

Could you explain to me please how law enforcement agents will be able to discern that any given ammunition was “specifically designed to be used only in a handgun” as the final version of this bill requires? There are so many different models of cartridges available, and many of them that are usually thought of as handgun cartridges also have rifles in which they will work just fine. While I could give you dozens of cartridge models as examples, this is a fundamental error in the wording of the bill. Cartridges are designed, period. The market then chambers a variety of firearms for those cartridges and sees what sells. It has been this way for over 130 years. There are very very few cartridges that only exist as rifle chamberings, and just as few that only exist as handgun chamberings.

You might think this bill is going to make it harder for criminals to obtain ammunition. It is not. They can still take a short drive to PA, NY, or any other state and buy as much as they want without the need to show any identification or government permission slips, as this bill demands. Criminals with the smallest bit of imagination can find someone to mail them a box of ammo, and you can’t do a thing about that. It is not a crime to send ammunition through the mail in most other states. At best this bill would make receipt of that package a crime, and you will have a very hard time enforcing that.

The last time I saw a New Jersey Firearms ID card it was a simple small piece of blue cardstock bearing the name and address of the isuee, a printed number, and a signature. Are there now plans in the works to make the ID card as copy proof as the new NJ Driver’s License? Will every township and borough have to use the exact same ID format? I hope so, because the ID card I saw was so simple a small child could easily forge one. How many million dollars will such an improvement effort cost the taxpayer?

Lastly, the application of this bill is unclear to me. Will it be applied on a bullet by bullet basis? If you catch a criminal in possession of 10 live rounds, does that mean 10 violations of this bill or just one? Will attempting to purchase ammunition without the proper papers be a violation of this bill as well, or just possession? Since the definition of ammunition includes the component parts, and the price of metals is at an all time high, have you just made criminals out of people who pick up range brass for recycling? What about the people who have a small hobby business casting lead bullets? Are they now criminals as well?

I think this new bill has good intentions, but really only opens a can of worms and adds to the grey areas of firearms laws. I think passing it was both a mistake and a waste of time. All you have done is added one more minor crime that a criminal can be charged with, and since this bill specifies that it is a crime of the fourth degree I think the likelihood of this charge being plea-bargained away is nearly a guarantee.

Tomorrow I could become a criminal

Tomorrow the New Jersey Senate is going to vote on bill S2470. This is another one of those bills that are supposed to reduce gang violence, but only do so by forcing yet another gun control law on the honest citizenry. It does not work, it has never worked, and it will never work. Criminals, by definition, do not obey the law.

NJ S2470 would make it a crime to purchase or possess ammunition unless you (the NJ resident) meet one or more of the following criteria:

Ok, that sort of looks like it makes sense. Ignoring the cops and the hunters for now, if you legally own a gun in the state then you have papers to prove it and you can buy ammunition. That should keep the crooks, cons, and gang-bangers from loading up their illegal guns. That has to cut down on crime and gun violence, right? ..... Only one little problem: it is entirely legal to own firearms in New Jersey and not have them registered, thus they have no paper trail. Registering your guns is your decision when you move to the state; you can do it, at $15 per gun, or you can decide not to do it. Take a look at the title of the form!

So if you legally owned guns before you moved to New Jersey and you brought them with you when you moved here, and you aren’t a cop or a fed, and you don’t hunt, and you chose not to register those guns as is your current legal right, and you haven’t bought any more guns while living in the state, and you aren’t a gun dealer of any kind, and you have some ammo for your guns, then if this bill passes you have just become a criminal and are subject to a $10,000 fine and up to 18 months in prison.

Think that’s a really big “if” with a whole lot of “and"s? It isn’t. Roughly 1 person in 3 owns a gun in this country, so it’s fair to say that roughly 1 person in 3 moving to NJ owns a gun and brought it with them. Most people are not cops or armed federal agents, and almost nobody is a gun dealer (out of 300 million people in the population, there are only about 65,000 gun dealers - a mere 0.0216%). About 15% of gun owners go hunting. So roughly 85% of 1/3 of the approximately 20,000 people a year who move to the state could become criminals overnight if this bill passes. Going back 10 years, that’s 57,000 people. I am one of them.

batbat

Hey, what about out of state purchasers? Is it now going to become a crime for Pennsylvania and New York citizens to drive over to Joisey for a quick box of bullets? What about NJ based mail order companies that sell ammo? I’m sure there’s at least one, right? Would this bill put them out of business?

This is another dumb-ass bit of gun control legislation brought to you by America’s Most Active East Coast Socialiststm eager to “prevent crime”. But this time, for me, it’s personal.

Gun ownership. Not just a right, it’s a duty

The 2nd Amendment states:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Gun banners like to say that this is a collective right applicable nowadays to members of the National Guard. But… what does the law say?

U.S. Code TITLE 10 > Subtitle A > PART I > CHAPTER 13 > § 311

§ 311. Militia: composition and classes

(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are—
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

Well, the gun banners are counting on you being ignorant of the law. In fact, most gun banners are members of the unorganized militia. So are you and I. Therefore, it is not just a ‘right’ to keep and bear arms, it is a duty. In this day and age we may be called up (drafted) to defend our country at any time. It behooves us to be familiar with firearms, and to hit what we shoot at.

I should point out that my state (Ohio) has the same law on the books. The Governor could call out the ‘unorganized’ militia at any time. Say a ‘natural disaster’. He’s likely to have to do that with much of the Ohio National Guard already deployed overseas. It would be wise to be well-trained and well-armed when called.
