Not Quite Cecil
"Ginger”, one of my local “wild” animals. He’s the smaller part of a 3 kitteh family of semi-ferals that live in the bushes here. Along with mom Scowler, and brother Fred. Of course, cats being cats, it turns out that Ginger is a guy, and Fred is a girl. Not quite as big as “Cecil” and a lot younger. He’s a little guy, and probably will never be much bigger than this no matter how much we feed him. And he’s been caging lots of free, high quality kitteh nom noms off of us since before he was weaned.
Right. Anyway, when the mercury hits the high 90s on a September afternoon, with matching humidity, everything turns to putty. And it’s purrrfect time for a nap. Wherever you happen to be at the time.

it had better not snow
Both of us woke up at 4-ish AM. Freezing!! It’s 55°F outside. BRRR. I don’t think it’s been this cold since early June. Yup, pretty sure Summer has simmered, and that Fall is about to start falling.
Meanwhile, WTH are we doing up at 4AM for? Grab a warm drink, equalize fluid levels, and get back under the covers!

Another Day Ended
Exactly. Put me under the covers with a good book, and I’ll manage about 2 pages before I’m out cold. It’s that kind of night.
And I get to play mason for the next couple of days too. Woo. Hoo.

Karmic Bucket List
Bucket List Item #43, Lifetime N.2.01
I want to dance in a meadow to the beat of the season
Gyrate and spin and prance without reason
Whip my hair ‘round me with unbridled pleasure
While it bounces behind in counter time measure
The Wheel of Karma will have to land on an equivalent “Big Money” space for this to happen. Were I to do such a thing in this lifetime, children watching would ask their parents if the old bald guy going crazy in the grass was being attacked by bees.

Obama Built It
We just finished watching the new season of True Detective. What a dark, confused, mumbled, morose mess, dragged along with half a dozen of the worst plot devices and several rancid McGuffins. Come on. The bird head, the exploding Caddy, the giant shootout with the cartel. Occasionally gay biker cop Paul - the possible Black Mountain war criminal and all around ultra-bad gunslinging cat-eyed ninja - survives a 30:1 shootout in the dark tunnels under the city, sensing the bad guys in the dark and blasting them ... runs for miles in the twisted maze of tunnels, finally comes out some exit door at total random and doesn’t see Lt. Burris standing there 3 feet away in broad daylight, who then casually shoots him from behind. Twice. And there were plenty of others. Cheap effects and dead ends. Really poor writing and characters you can’t really like or hardly even care about. And it just got more depressing every episode.
But in the end ... I think the theme was that in the end, nobody wins when the evil criminal conspiracy is the government itself. Makes me think of Obama. Yeah, he built that.
Saving grace? Kelly Reilly as Jordan Semyon, a good woman of a comfortable age married to a not-so-good guy. Smart, tough, realistic. And bless her minimal costume wardrobe, which consisted of 2 little black dresses and a cream cardigan.

beuaty where you find it
Because Allah Loves Wondrous Varieties*
These two women, with strikingly symmetrical faces, are members of the Ethiopian Hamer (Hamar) tribe. Genetically they are a mix of Caucasian, Negroid, and Mongolian types, seeing as they are closely related to the Bushmen that lived in the area before them. Their necklaces proclaim that they are both First Wives, sharing a husband with 2 other lesser wives. There is loads of reading out there about this group, from their unique cultural practices, to theories about their genetic descent, to their distinct mix of Sunni Muslim with Animist beliefs. ~

top 50 at the hill
The Hill, DC’s insider-ish news site, did one of their meaningless annual surveys and came up with a list of The 50 Most Beautiful People In Washington DC.
The nominees all work in or around politics in DC, so I guess that includes politicians, staff, lobbyists, and journalists.
Playing a bit of CYA I think, they put Michelle Obama at #9, and Fox New’s Shannon Bream in at #10. Somewhere in the list of 50 they stop publishing the numbers, perhaps out of excessive political correctness to avoid triggers. ("I’m on The Hill’s Most Beautiful list!” “Yeah, at #39. You cow.") Marco Rubio makes the cut as well. There were no age limits, and the contest was open to anyone, so the list isn’t completely filled with former beauty queens now working as executive assistants (eg Courtney Parella, #42, R, Miss Mississippi College 2013).
And the winner is ...
1. Taylor Weeks
Hometown: Houston
Age: 23
Relationship Status: Dating
Party Affiliation: RepublicanTaylor Weeks has always been a standout, even at the age when everyone was just trying to fit in.
“Middle school is never good for anyone, especially if you have red hair and you’re 7 feet tall!” exclaimed Sen. John Cornyn’s (R-Texas) legislative correspondent, who’s actually 5 feet 10 inches.
But these days, Weeks has her flame-haired “team,” including two redheaded colleagues: “We have some backup.”
The Netflix lover gets fired up talking about her Lone Star State roots. She proudly features a Texas flag and a cactus at her desk.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
- Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
- Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
