A TEN MILLION DOLLAR CAR FOUND COLLECTING DUST IN A LOCKED GARAGE. OH MAN! WHAT A CAR!
I have never been an auto mechanic or mechanically inclined. But I have always been car crazy. I love the older ones especially. Like the 37 CORD.
I’m gonna stop here because if I start naming all the cars I am mad for, the list might get too long to read.
I once bought two cars at once because I couldn’t make my mind up between two different makes. I see em as mobile sculptures. Some are works of art too.
You may not agree but I think the 62, 63 and 64 T-Birds are classics. I had a 62 and a 64. Not at the same time though. Hey, once upon a distant past I was young, single, not too smart about money and let me tell you, credit was sooooooooo eeeeeasssssssssssssy to get in So. Calif. and especially for cars.
Another time folks.
Would I do that again today if the wife’d let me?
YOU BETCHA! CARS,CAMERAS,COMPUTERS! Oh yeah ... BOOKS! Tons of books.
The eccentric uncle who left a garage in his will… containing a $10 MILLION Bugatti supercar
By Chris Brooke
Last updated at 11:44 PM on 01st January 2009When eccentric doctor and compulsive hoarder Harold Carr died at the age of 89, his relatives faced a daunting task to sort through his possessions.
His home was packed with piles of medical machinery, 1,500 beer steins, thousands of receipts and even a World War Two spy drone.
But all the effort became worth it when they opened the door of his garage - and struck gold.
![]()
Inside they found a 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante, one of only 17 ever made.
The historic automobile with only 26,284 miles on the clock still has 99 per cent of its original parts.
It will be sold in Paris next month and is strongly tipped to surpass the £4.7million world record for a car at auction.
Auctioneers have put a reserve price of £3million on a two-seater described as one of the ‘ultimate road-going sports cars from the golden era of the 1930s’.
And despite the credit crunch it could fetch anything up to £6million.
Fifteen of the 17 Type 57S Atalantes still exist. This particular model was originally owned by Earl Howe, a leading figure in the early days of British motor sport.
It has a 3.3-litre, eightcylinder engine, four- speed manual gearbox, can reach 60mph in ten seconds and has a top speed of 130mph.
Dr Carr, an orthopaedic surgeon who served as an army doctor during World War Two and also became a keen flier, bought the vehicle in 1955 for £895 - the equivalent of £15,500 today.
He drove it for a few years before leaving it in the garage near his home at Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne. The last tax disc expired in December 1960.
He never married and eight relatives are to share the proceeds of his estate.
A nephew, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: ‘We knew he had some cars, but we had no idea what they were.
‘It was a bit of local folklore that he had a Bugatti, but no one knew for sure. It’s worth so much because he hasn’t used it for 50 years. It was one of the original supercars.
‘When it was built it could reach 130mph at a time when other cars could only do 50mph. Of course we are delighted and we’re going to make sure the money is shared out among the family. It’s a wonderful thing to leave.’
He described his uncle as ‘a very eccentric old gent’, adding: ‘I suppose you could call him a mad doctor. People who saw him in the street thought he was a tramp. He would wear two pairs of trousers at the same time.
![]()
(BMEWS, GO TO THE LINK BELOW TO SEE ENLARGEMENT OF THIS FOR EASY READ. FASCINATING STUFF.)
‘All the children would laugh at him in the street when he tinkered with his cars because he wore a piece of rubber tube round his head to stop the oil getting in his hair. But he was always such a generous man.’
In his later years Dr Carr suffered from a form of obsessive compulsive disorder and hoarded everything in the house he refused to leave.
Files were piled 6ft high at his detached home, including even receipts for pencils bought in the 1950s.
‘Since he died, it has taken me 18 months to get where I am today,’ said the nephew. ‘There was an awful lot to sort out with his house.’
![]()
A classic Aston Martin was found in another garage and sold for ‘tens of thousands’, but an E-type Jaguar was in such a poor state that it had to be scrapped.
Over the years Dr Carr resisted many offers to buy the Bugatti.
When his property was cleared dozens of notes from would-be buyers were found inside.
‘People must have known because he got letters from all over the country,’ his nephew said.
‘He got notes pushed through his door. People travelled from all over to try and convince him to sell the car.’
![]()
James Knight, international head of the Bonhams motoring department, said Dr Carr’s Bugatti was ‘one of the last great barn discoveries’.
He added: ‘I have known of this Bugatti for a number of years and, like a select group of others, hadn’t dared divulge its whereabouts to anyone. It offers a truly rewarding project to the new owner - who will join a select list of distinguished owners - to play such an integral part in bringing this wonderful motor car back to life.’
The current auction record of £4.7million was paid in 1987 in London for another Bugatti, a 1931 Royale.

Amazing Fashion
And now, for no reason whatsoever*, is a bit of amazing fashion. So amazing I hid it below the fold.
Herewith is Australian designer Anna Plunkett wearing a chicken. A very colorful, playful, sleepy chicken. With enormous false eyelashes, right over the breasteses area.
Notice the attention to detail - it’s the chrome tassels on her open toed purple high heeled sneakers that really make the outfit.
Ladies, get out your charge cards. I expect this will be THE hot new look for Spring. Whimsy, art, and support for PETA all rolled into one. How can you refuse?
h/t to Go Fug Yourself
* Ok, the reason is that I just can’t bear to post publicly on the head banging idiocy of Obama’s latest staff appointment, so I’ll hide that in the comments.

MY IDEA OF REAL EYE CANDY ….. THERE IS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT HER.
ok friends and neighbors. if you really want to read the short story that goes with this, there’s the link below.
I confess, I don’t care about the story. There’ll be plenty more in the future I am certain.
What I wanna do now is just leer at that gor-jus face and hair.
Letting her hair down: Sarah Palin ditches the up-do and lets her locks hang loose as she looks to the future
By Daily Mail Reporter

Sarah Palin showed off a new hairstyle today. The Alaskan govenor addressed a Republican conference with her groomed, brunette tresses left loose and blow-dryed, rather than her usual up-do or half-up style.
Now that the election is over, perhaps the former vice-presidential nominee decided she can relax a bit and let it all hang out.

“from and about Europe”
This post is about Europe though not from Europe.
This is dedicated to Walt, who left BMEWS after a year and a half
...probably because most of the posts were from and about Europe.
Just another European post...pictures from Oktoberfest 2008 in Munich. (SFW)
Think my wife would let me go next year? Me neither.

Where’s Sarah?
I’ve noticed the MSM playing a game of Where’s Waldo about Sarah Palin. “Why is the GOP hiding her from us?” they ask each other all the time. Gee, I dunno, maybe because of the way you “greeted” her and her family to the national spotlight? Or maybe, as the media darkly suggests, they’ve got her holed away in some library studying up on foreign policy ....

OKOK, I promise I’ll get to the more serious stuff in a minute. But first ….
Oh my ... Ain’t she pretty. That isn’t a question.
Only 16. Wish her well and hope it won’t spoil her as this kind of thing so often does.
It’s great a Brit girl won in the face of all the awful teen news here in the UK about girl crime and girl gangs etc.

Amy Jackson, 16, was crowned in Houston, Texas on Saturday.
She has now returned home to Knowsley, Liverpool to celebrate with friends and family.
She said: “I really thought I had not made the final five, but then I went on to take the title. I was completely shocked and so happy.”
Miss Jackson beat competitors from Korea, Mexico and Russia to win. As part of the entry, she was marked on her stage presence and her answers in an interview.
The teenager received her GCSE results while at the competition in the US, and found out she had achieved nine passes, five of which were As.
She is now considering going to live in Texas for a year to promote the competition. After that, she plans to start her A-levels and then go on to university to study law.
Miss Jackson reached the final in Texas after winning Miss Teen Liverpool and Miss Teen Great Britain competitions.
Her father, BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Alan Jackson said: “The contestants were asked to talk about their home town. She mentioned Liverpool FC, Capital of Culture, the Mersey – there is no shortage of things to say about Liverpool.”
Her 18 prizes include a modelling contract in the US, a wardrobe of clothes, a year’s supply of top cosmetics and shoes and a £10,000 scholarship.

You would have thought she could find a bikini to fit… (she doesn’t fit it, she overflows it)
You would have thought she could find a bikini to fit… designer Stella McCartney’s costume takes the strain By Donna Mcconnell
Last updated at 3:28 PM on 28th August 2008Stella McCartney revealed her wild side on holiday in Mallorca, in a brief leopard print bikini.
The usually well-covered designer, who made her name clothing the rich and famous, showed little of her usual reserve as she stripped off to enjoy the sun while on a family holiday.
But for a designer who made her name as the purveyor of high quality clothing, it seems she failed to get a bikini to adequately contain her.
![]()
Tight fit: Designer Stella McCartney’s bikini offers little coverage and her bust is threatening to spill out as she holidays in MallorcaStella’s teeny triangle bikini strained to contain her chest, and the black bikini bottoms appeared to be distinctly Brazilian in style as they bared plenty of bottom flesh.
And later Stella appeared to be struggling to maintain her dignity after she waded into the water, as her less than ample chest spilled out of the bikini top.
Despite the lack of coverage, the designer who is married to magazine publisher Alasdhair Willis, certainly looked stunning in her bikini, despite giving birth to her third child in January this year.
The couple have three children together, Miller, three, Bailey, 20 months and Beckett, eight months.
Swim queen: The usually reserved Stella wades into the waters in her Brazilian-style bikini which showed off plenty of bottom flesh
Stella and her family are holidaying in Majorca, and have been seen enjoying the sights, and a day out at the local aquarium.
The ardent supporter of animal rights recently showed the courage of her convictions, after threatening legal action when a leading fashion house featured a model wearing lingerie from her collection beneath a mink fur coat.
Stella - who refuses to use fur or leather in her own designs – is said to have hit the roof and threatened legal action after spotting one of her bras in the advert for Hockley, a fur boutique based in Mayfair.
Malfunction: The bikini finally failed to hold the fashion designer as she spilled out of the leopard print number on the beach
The offending ad appears in the latest issue of Vogue and shows a model in a black lace McCartney bra draped in a £6,450 full-length mink black and white ‘Atlas’ coat accessorised with a leather belt.
‘Stella went absolutely ballistic when she saw it,’ a source at her store in Mayfair told The Mail on Sunday.
‘I have never seen her so angry. She hit the roof and said that she planned to sue.’

Strange stuff
Need to buy a gift for someone who has everything? Want a really personal accessory for your home? Got money to burn? Here ya go!

All you need to do is fill out the form and send in a picture of the eyes you want, plus a bunch of money, and in a month or so you get back matching lamps. Awesome. And spooky! The hand blown glass eyeball lamps made by Glassblower Livio Serena in Murano are based on exact clones of your actual eye color. Order them through 5.5 Designers. I have no idea what they cost ... figure expensive. Really expensive.

If you really like this concept, I know a company that makes stereo speakers you might like too ...

EYE CANDY FOR US SENIORS
Yeah I know it isn’t politics or moonbat stuff but when I saw this in the paper I just had to share.
It’s like, really old stuff still has value. Except this is a digital camera and it fits in the palm of your hand. Not sure how easy that is to work.
I LOVE this sort of stuff, but I don’t miss 35mm. I do miss working in a darkroom tho. Anyway, you guys might already have seen this but it’s brand new to me.
The link below has other views. Kinda pricey tho. Heck, for 300 bucks I could get a notebook, or upgrade my dsktop pc, or buy a bigger camera. But I like the idea and the looks.
Not to worry tho. I’ll get back to blood and gore and crime soon. And that’s just politics.

Kylie Minogue, OBE

Given this honour by HRH Queen Elizabeth II on her New Year’s Day Honours List, Ms. Minogue received her medal today from Prince Charles. Hearty congratulations Kylie!
So, how did this come about? Did Kylie invent a time machine, jump back in history, save General Gordon at Khartoum and defeat the Mahdi Army all by herself? Hardly. Perhaps she was awarded this singular honor for raising breast cancer awareness, after having gone through it herself back in 2005 and recovered fully? Nice idea, but no. Ok, was the award for looking this good at 40 and still having the tightest bottom in Europe and the Land Down Under? Possibly, but no one will admit to that reality. Kylie was given this medal of heroes, this award of exceptional service to Crown and Country ... for her contribution to music. But, hey, so was John Lennon, so the rot actually set in years ago. Ms. Minogue is actually from Australia, though this award makes her an honorary Briton.

Lady Godivas ride naked through London (Nero plays while Londenium Burns?)
Hard to follow Drew at any time but this bit of drama is heartening cause it shows that even in these times there are people willing to bear bare all for good works and charity.
Oh hell, come on. Lets be honest. Although I do not mind looking, the truth is that these folks just needed the right excuse to do what they were just dying to do but didn’t have a legtimate excuse to hide behind. (grin) But use the ‘C’ word, which can be Charity or Children and away we go.
Here’s Lookin’ At You Ladies.

Last Updated: 4:00PM BST 19/05/2008Naked women mounted horses to ride through London’s Hyde Park today in a truly unashamed publicity stunt for the film Lady Godiva.
Up to 50 women bared their all, or stripped down to a slim pair of knickers, for a cancer charity supported by the film’s director Vicky Jewson.
For each rider in the saddle, Jewson donated a “Godiva” - cockney slang for £5 - to Maggie’s , a charity that runs information and support centres for people affected by cancer.
Some volunteers sported wigs of cascading curls that evoked the image of the mediaeval lady on her steed - while also going some way to preserving their modesty.
Legend has it that Lady Godiva had long golden hair and portraits have been discovered that may support the theory.
Little is known of her aside from her naked ride through Coventry to obtain remission for the townspeople from the heavy taxes imposed by her husband Leofric, Earl of Mercia.
The British film Lady Godiva is a romantic comedy shot set in modern day Oxford in the vein of Notting Hill and Bridget Jones.
It stars Phoebe Thomas Matthew Chambers and James Wilby and was released in cinemas in January.

Huge Black Hole Kicked Out Of Universe, Hillary Loves The Concept
Since Steamboat McGoo is on a road trip this week and thus unable to blog, I figured I’d try my hand at his style of posting. Hey, this is fun!
A colossal black hole has been spotted exiting its home galaxy, kicked out after a huge cosmic merger took place. The event, seen for the first time, was announced last week. When two colliding galaxies finally merge, it is thought that the black holes at their cores may fuse together too.
Astronomers have theorized that the resulting energy release could propel the new black hole from its parent galaxy out into space, but no one has found such an event.
“We have observed the pre-merger stages of black holes,” said Stefanie Komossa of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, part of the team that made the new discovery. “But we haven’t seen the actual merger event.”
Komossa and her team have now detected the consequences of such a merger: a 100-million-solar mass black hole in the process of leaving its home galaxy.
“The consequence was that the merged black hole, the final product, the new black hole was expelled from the galaxy,” Komossa said.
The team’s results are detailed in the May 10 issue of the journal Astrophysical Journal Letters.
Our own Milky Way contains the debris of the many smaller galaxies it has brushed against and devoured in the past. And it hasn’t stopped munching away at its neighbors: It is currently absorbing the Sagittarius dwarf elliptical galaxy.
The Milky Way isn’t the top predator though, as our giant neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy, is expected to devour the Milky Way in about two billion years. The future resulting elliptical galaxy has already been dubbed “Milkomeda.”
Though colliding galaxies rush towards each other at hundreds of kilometers per hour, the interactions can take hundreds of millions of years to complete.
This game of celestial bumper cars is driven by the gravitational pulls that galaxies exert on one another. Typically the first sign of a collision is a bridge of matter connecting two galaxies as gravity’s first gentle tugs tease out dust and gas. As the outer reaches of the galaxies begin to interact, long streamers of gas and dust, called tidal tails, sweep back to wrap around the galactic cores.
The only thing missing from these articles is some vector info about the runaway black hole. Since they don’t tell which way it’s going, that can only mean that it’s headed straight at us. We’re all gonna die!!!
To make you feel a little better while you ponder your doom, here is some smut.

I wonder why other blogs get so many visitors?
I’ve been watching the stats for the past week or three. Things aren’t going that well here. BMEWS isn’t dieing, but we’ve lost readership. I’ve been doing research, reading up on all those “how to make your blog grow for fun and profit” articles. I even gave RWN’s post yesterday on “Blogging While Female” a good going over, just in case. “Be yourself”, “Be original” they said. Gee, that helps.
Then I took a look around some of the really popular sites on the internet. Wanna know what really draws people in? Pirates. And sexy women. And sexy women dressed as pirates. And sexy women dressed as anything, or better yet, undressed as anything. Face it, most of the people who spend time mousing around the internet are acne-riddled 14 year old boys who are so geeky their own mothers have locked them in the attic. They’ll do anything and go anywhere if there’s the merest hint of something, anything, female at the other end of the mouse click.
What else brings in the people? Hollywood gossip. The greatest blogs out there don’t bring in one tenth the traffic of a good scandal and skanky starlett page. Forget “Playful Primate in the TLLB ecosystem”. These sites are “Mega-Godzilla Stomping Tokyo, Server Melting, Golden Egg Laying Money Generators”.
For the younger audience, it’s dinosaurs, sharks, and Miley Cyrus. Go figure.
Right then, what to do ...
Ah ... one for the kiddies!!

If Tyrannosaurus rex had ever taken a dip in the ocean, this ruler of the land would have met its match - a bus-sized marine reptile with bone-crushing teeth the size of cucumbers.
In the summer of 2006, a team of Norwegian paleontologists and volunteers discovered the 150 million-year-old fossil of a pliosaur on the remote Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard about 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) from the North Pole. A year later, the team, led by vertebrate paleontologist Joern Hurum of the University of Oslo’s Natural History Museum, excavated the nearly complete skeleton.
The newly described pliosaur, dubbed The Monster by team members, boasted a length of about 50 feet (15 meters) and powerful paddles extending 10 feet (3 meters).
“Not only is this specimen significant in that it is one of the largest and relatively complete plesiosaurs ever found, it also demonstrates that these gigantic animals inhabited the northern seas of our planet during the age of dinosaurs” said Patrick Druckenmiller, a plesiosaur specialist at the University of Alaska Museum, and a member of the expedition that found and excavated the fossil.
Ok, that ought to hold the little bastards for a bit. Now, what else can I come up with??
