South Of The (Drug) Border

I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I have a feeling it’s going to create more problems than it solves. Now the Mexicans streaming across our borders will be stoned as well as illegal. To praphrase Ross Perot, “that great sucking sound you hear will be all the blow going up someone’s nose as they wade the Rio Grande” ...

Mexico Proposes Decriminalizing Pot And Cocaine
Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:49pm ET17

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Owning marijuana, cocaine and even heroin will no longer be a crime in Mexico if the drugs are carried in small amounts for personal use, under legislation passed by the Congress. Police will not penalize people for possessing up to 5 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of opium, 25 milligrams of heroin or 500 milligrams of cocaine, under a bill passed by senators late on Thursday and earlier approved by the lower house.

People caught with larger quantities of drugs will be treated as narcotics dealers and face increased jail terms under the plan. The government says the measure allows police to focus on major drug dealers, and President Fox is expected to sign it into law. “This law provides more judicial tools for authorities to fight crime,” presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar said on Friday.

Hundreds of people including several police officers have been killed in the past year as drug cartels battle authorities and compete with each other for control of lucrative cocaine, marijuana and heroin smuggling routes from Mexico into the United States. The violence has raged mostly in northern Mexico but in recent months has spread south to cities like vacation resort Acapulco.

Under current law, it is up to local judges and police to decide on a case-by-case basis whether people should be prosecuted for possessing small quantities of drugs, a source at the Senate’s health commission told Reuters. “The object of this law is to not put consumers in jail, but rather those who sell and poison,” said Sen. Jorge Zermeno of the ruling National Action Party. Fifty-three senators voted for the bill with 26 votes against it.

Crime & Punishment

I just got a hot tip from John over at StopTheACLU.com about the lunatic professor at Northern Kentucky University who was recently fired for destroying an anti-abortion display with help from her students. I turns out she is probably going to do a little jail time and pay a fine along with the students involved. Do you think this fascist beeyatch will learn a lesson about freedom of speech? Nah. Leftists never learn anything. Too stoopid ...

imageimageA professor and six students at Northern Kentucky University were charged Wednesday with misdemeanors related to the April 12 destruction of an anti-abortion display on campus.

Sally Jacobsen of the literature and language department, has been charged with criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking and criminal solicitation. The third charge relates to evidence that she encouraged students to participate in the destruction, County Attorney Justin Verst said.

The six students, who range in age from 21 to 27, were charged with criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking. The theft charge is a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $500 fine. The criminal mischief and solicitation charges are class B misdemeanors punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $250 fine.

Verst said additional students might be charged as their identities become known. Four hundred crosses representing aborted fetuses were pulled from the ground and thrown in trash cans around campus. A sign explaining the temporary display, which had been approved by university officials as an expression of free speech, was also removed.

Jacobsen told reporters that she had “invited” students in her graduate-level British literature course to exercise free-speech by destroying the display. She said she was offended by the simulated cemetery, which she considered intimidating and harmful to women who might be considering abortions. NKU’s campus newspaper, the Northerner, published photos of Jacobsen dismantling part of the display.

Since the incident became public, NKU’s president has received hundreds of e-mails from throughout the country condemning the professor’s actions. She was placed on leave last week, and substitutes were assigned to her classes for the rest of the semester…

Bad Dogg

And you wonder why Europeans think Americans are arrogant and pushy? It’s incidents like this that give all of us a bad name. Gangsta rappers are enough of a pain in the ass here at home. Why do they have to take their miserable attitude overseas?

Snoop Dogg In Airport Fracas
Thursday, April 27, 2006 - 6:41 a.m. EDT (10:41 GMT)

LONDON, England (CNN)—American rapper Snoop Dogg was in police custody on Thursday after being arrested with five other men following a violent disturbance at London’s Heathrow airport. The star was held by police when a row broke out after his 30-strong entourage was refused entry to the British Airways first-class lounge.

His party then moved to a duty-free shop where it is alleged they threw bottles of whisky to the floor and argued with staff. Police were called and were escorting the group away from the scene when a further disturbance broke out, Scotland Yard said. Seven officers received minor injuries—mainly cuts and bruises—and one suffered a fracture to the hand.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “Police were called at 6 p.m. last night to reports of a disturbance involving 30 people in a business lounge at Terminal 1. “The party was told that they would not be permitted to board their flight and officers then attempted to direct the group to baggage reclaim.

“A number of the group became abusive and pushed officers.” Six men aged in their 30s, including Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, 34, were arrested on charges of violent disorder and affray. The spokesman added: “The men, who are all U.S. citizens, are in custody at two West London police stations.”

Is Our Kids Learning, Part XLV

This young lady is apparently in a race with Deborah LaFavre for “Oversexed Female Teacher Of The Year”. Pamela just won’t let the kid go. Arrested, tried, convicted, served time, violated probation, splashed herself all over MySpace.com, and now back in jail again. Whazzup wid dat?

McMINNVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—A former teacher who served time in jail after being accused of having sex with a 13-year-old boy was arrested for the second time in two weeks, with prosecutors saying she contacted the victim again and sent him sexually explicit videos of herself.

A judge on Wednesday ordered Pamela Rogers, 28, who had been free on bond after an April 11 arrest on a probation violation charge, to remain in jail until a July hearing.

Prosecutor Dale Potter had said he would seek to revoke Rogers’ probation and send her to prison for seven years. Potter didn’t immediately return calls Wednesday seeking comment.

Rogers’ attorney, Peter Strianse, said he would have to question his client’s mental competency if prosecutors substantiate the new charges.

“If they’re able to prove this, it would show an incredible lack of judgment,” Strianse told the Southern Standard newspaper after Wednesday’s hearing.

The latest charges contend that Rogers, who was arrested Monday, reached the now-14-year-old student by cell phone just hours after her April 12 court appearance. Authorities said she previously contacted with the boy and his teenage sister by text messages and via the Internet.

Rogers pleaded no contest last year to having sexual intercourse and oral sex with the student, who attended the elementary school where she formerly taught.

In a deal with prosecutors, she was sentenced to a six-month jail term and long probation under the condition that she not contact the victim or his family or use the Internet.

The Race Card Is A Joker

The right reverend Jackson is at it again. I am always amazed that people never call his hand on these blatant racist accusations and demagoguery. I don’t know all the facts of this case except what I’ve heard on the news and what I read but it seems to me there is plenty of room for doubt that the stripper is telling the truth. DNA tests have confirmed the players’ contention that nothing happened.

The court will have to decide eventually. In the meantime, Jackson and crew have already decided to step into this mess and stand behind this woman even if she turns out to be lying (his own words). How does Jackson get away with this kind of racist behavior ... ?

imageimageJackson: Rainbow/Push To Pay Woman’s Tuition At N.C. Central
Sunday, April 16, 2006

DURHAM, N.C. (AP)—The Rev. Jesse Jackson said yesterday that his Rainbow/Push Coalition will pay the college tuition of a black woman who told police she was raped by white members of Duke University’s men’s lacrosse team - no matter the outcome of the case.

“I can’t wait ... to talk with her and have prayer with her, because our organization is committed, when she’s physically and emotionally able ... to provide for her the scholarship money to finish school so she will never ... again have to stoop that low to survive,” he said from Chicago in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

When asked, Jackson also said that his group will pay for the woman’s tuition even if her story proves false. Attorneys for the lacrosse players have strongly denied that any sexual assault took place at the March 13 party, citing DNA tests performed on all 46 of the team’s white members that failed to match any samples taken from the woman.

Defense attorneys have said that they expect the case to go to a grand jury Monday. Jackson said that there is plenty of circumstantial evidence indicating that something happened to the woman, a 27-year-old divorced mother of two who is a student across town from Duke at historically black N.C. Central University. A doctor and forensic nurse who examined the woman found evidence consistent with rape, according to court documents.

Flying High

It looks like our buddy in Venezuela, El Presidente Hugo “Pez-Head” Chavez has some ‘splaining to do ....

Mexico Army Finds Tons of Cocaine on Plane
Apr 12, 1:33 AM (ET)

MEXICO CITY (AP)

Mexican soldiers seized 5 1/2 tons of cocaine worth more than $100 million from a commercial plane arriving from Venezuela, Mexico’s Defense Department announced Tuesday. The army was waiting for the plane on Monday at the airport of Cuidad de Carmen, 550 miles east of Mexico City, after receiving information from Venezuelan and U.S. authorities, Gen. Carlos Gaytan told a news conference.

The cocaine was stacked in 128 black suitcases marked private. Soldiers arrested Colombian Miguel Vazquez, 47, who was the plane’s co-pilot, but the pilot escaped, Gaytan said. There were no passengers. The soldiers also arrested two Mexicans who were waiting at the airport with another plane.

Gaytan said airport officials initially stopped soldiers from approaching the plane, claiming there was an oil leak and that it might explode. The officials are being investigated to see if they were in league with the traffickers, said Mexico’s top drug prosecutor, Jose Luis Santiago Vasconcelos.

U.S. and Mexican officials say that cocaine and heroin is increasingly passing from Colombia through Venezuela to Mexico where it is smuggled into the United States. While drug traffickers used planes to smuggle large quantities of drugs in the 1990s, most Mexican traffickers now use land and sea routes.

A U.S. State Department report released in March said that Venezuela has become a key transit point for drugs because of “rampant corruption at the highest levels of law enforcement and a weak judicial system.”

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez suspended cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in August, accusing its agents of spying.

Weekend Weirdness

April 7, 2006, 9:18 PM EDT

MENOMONIE, Wis. (AP)

A 25-year-old man convicted of stealing hundreds of pairs of underwear was sentenced on Friday to one year in jail for his second conviction of stealing panties. Anthony Allen Scholfield was also sentenced to 10 years probation on Friday in Dunn County Circuit Court, following his guilty plea to a felony burglary charge in February. He had faced more than 18 years in prison.

“It sure could have been a lot worse. It’s a difficult crime,” said Scholfield’s attorney, Peter Morin. Scholfield had been accused of stealing three pair of thong underwear from a woman last summer. He allegedly broke into the woman’s home while she was out of town and stole what the woman described as “very distinctive-looking” underwear.

Scholfield was arrested a short time later after police found the underwear at his residence. Scholfield was convicted of a similar felony burglary in 2003. Police had linked him to the theft of 854 panties. His probation had ended days before the burglary last summer. Scholfield will have to register as a sex offender because of his crimes, said Dunn County District Attorney Kris Cusick. He must also undergo sex offender treatment and pay a $2,500 fine.

Having A Bad Hair Day

Mike LesterRome (GA) News-Tribune

- AP: “McKinney Case Goes to Federal Prosecutor”

- WSB-TV: “McKinney Admits Misusing Taxpayer Money”

WASHINGTON (CNN)—As U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Georgia, faces possible criminal charges for a Wednesday altercation with a Capitol Police officer, one of her lawyers said Friday that the real issues were “sex, race and Ms. McKinney’s progressiveness.”

In a news conference featuring actor Danny Glover and singer Harry Belafonte, McKinney said she would be exonerated and that “this whole incident was instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female, black congresswoman.”

McKinney issued a statement of regret for the incident but no apology. She and her lawyers have repeatedly declared that she was a victim of inappropriate touching and racism and said they were considering pursuing civil action against the officer.

She had little else to say, citing the ongoing investigation into her allegedly striking a police officer after he failed to recognize her at a security checkpoint and tried to stop her from passing.

“Cynthia McKinney is a disgrace to her race ... the human race, that is.”

Airport Security Thiefs

It’s bad enough we have to endure politically correct security checks at our nation’s airports with embaressing disrobing, poking and prodding by minimally intelligent goobers but now we find out they’ve been robbing us blind to boot.

This is the price we pay for letting the Democrats force DHS into making screeners federal employees instead of using private firms. I say we just get rid of the screeners and give every passenger a .45 automatic when they board. Fly the friendly skies fer sure ....

imageimageTSA Screeners Plead Guilty to Theft
March 31, 2006, 12:47 AM EST

HONOLULU (AP)

Two security screeners at the Honolulu International Airport pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of yen from the luggage of Japanese tourists.

Christopher J. Cadorna, 25, and Benny S. Arcano, 27, admitted being among a group of Transportation Security Administration screeners who stole at least $20,000 from international travelers, prosecutors said.

The yen was exchanged for dollars and divvied up by the screeners, prosecutors said. Both men have agreed to cooperate with the government’s investigation into thefts by other screeners. Each faces a maximum 10 years in prison when they are sentenced July 17.

“This has given us a black eye, but it is not indicative of what we have,” said TSA Honolulu director Sidney Hayakawa in defending his 600 screeners. The TSA plans to install cameras to monitor the screeners, he said.

Separately, TSA officer Michael Gomes, 32, was charged Wednesday with stealing $16,000 from a bag he screened at Molokai Airport. He admitted the theft and surrendered $13,500 to police, officials said.

Execute Pedophiles?

You’re damn right! This is one piece of legislation that I hope goes through and stands up under appeal. I doubt that it will however because the Liberals in this country will never allow it. Personally, I feel that the first time a pedophile rapes a child under 11, they should be fried. Waiting until they do it a second time is absurd.

South Carolina Approves Seeking Death for Pedophiles
March 28, 2006, 9:50 PM EST

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP)

The state Senate on Tuesday endorsed making repeat child rapists eligible for the death penalty, setting aside arguments the move might be unconstitutional. “What we’ve got to do today is vote our conviction,” said Republican Sen. Larry Martin.

The proposal allows prosecutors to seek the death penalty for sex offenders who are convicted twice of raping a child younger than 11. Currently in South Carolina, murder is the only crime eligible for the death penalty.

The proposal was approved as part of a larger bill that sets minimum sentences and lifetime electronic monitoring for some sex offenders. The bill requires a third reading before moving to the House. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 1977 Georgia case involving an adult victim that sentencing someone to death for rape was unconstitutional.

A Louisiana law lets prosecutors seek the death penalty for rapists of children younger than 12, and the Louisiana Supreme Court found it constitutional because the U.S. Supreme Court ruling did not address the rape of a child. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the statute.

Dragnet

Sgt. Friday: “8:24pm, Saturday, June 24. Officer Gannon and I were driving down West LaJolla when we spotted a suspicios looking car with dark hosiery dangling down on the ground from the driver’s side door. After checking with dispatch, suspect was pulled over regarding a heist at a gas station in this vicinity an hour ago.”

DUM-DA-DUMMMMM, DUM-DA-DUM-DA-DUMMMMM .... (C’mon! You all know the theme to Dragnet - hum along!)

Fishnet Hosiery Does in Robbery Suspect
March 21, 2006, 4:50 PM EST

MONTEREY, Calif. (AP)

A man’s pantyhose led to his arrest, authorities said. An unshaven man wearing a black evening gown, fishnet stockings, calf-high boots and a black wig robbed a USA Gas station Monday morning, authorities alleged. The armed man stuffed $290 in cash into an ensemble-matching black purse.

“I’ve been with the department for 22 years, and this is the first time I’ve heard of this happening anywhere here,” police Lt. Phil Penko said. About 35 minutes after the robbery, police Officer Chad Ventimiglia spotted a black Saab with fishnet pantyhose hanging from the front driver’s side door, dragging on the ground, investigators said.

The car was pulled over and Michael Leslie Clouse, 26, was arrested and booked for investigation of armed robbery. A plastic replica handgun allegedly was found inside his purse, Penko said.

Get it? Dragnet? DRAG - NET? Oh, forget it! Too many pearls and not enough swine!

Wise Guys

Today’s Special Crime Moment is brought to you by The Sopranos, Serpico and Daffy Duck. The bad guys this time are ... cops. And not too bright cops, it seems. It all takes place in New York (where else?), where the mob is still in business and dirty cops can still be found. Every time I read one of these stories, I’m reminded of a classic exchange between Rick and the German Major Strasser in ”Casablanca” ....

Major Strasser: Are you one of those people who cannot imagine the Germans in their beloved Paris?

Rick: It’s not particularly my beloved Paris.

Heinz: Can you imagine us in London?

Rick: When you get there, ask me!

Captain Renault: Hmmh! Diplomatist!

Major Strasser: How about New York?

Rick: Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn’t advise you to try to invade.

imageimageSHOCKING PIX OF ‘WRONG’ HIT
March 14, 2006

(NEW YORK POST)

Chilling photos of one of the worst botched mob hits in history surfaced for the first time yesterday as the explosive trial of two alleged cops-turned-Mafia-hit men kicked off in Brooklyn federal court.

The most shocking never-seen-before photo featured the bullet-riddled body of tragic phone-company worker Nicholas Guido, 26, slumped over the wheel of his new, red Nissan Maxima in his family’s driveway in Brooklyn on Christmas Day, 1986.

Prosecutors say dirty Detectives Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa thought they were giving Luchese crime-family boss Anthony “Gaspipe” Casso the address of the Nicholas Guido who had tried to assassinate Casso. But the cops gave Casso’s hit men the wrong address, that of an innocent Nicholas Guido, who was three years younger than the intended target, the feds said.

Prosecutors revealed the eerie photos as they tried to paint Eppolito and Caracappa as cold-blooded cops who morphed into Mafia hit men for the moolah, using their gold badges to lure squealers to their deaths for ruthless mob bosses. The cops’ payoff? Up to $65,000 a hit, the feds said.  In one of the most outrageous cases of police corruption in history, Casso repeatedly used the cops as his personal “crystal ball” to help track down informants and then murder them, the feds said.

The highly decorated veteran cops were “not traditional mobsters. They were better. They were two men who could get away with murder,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitra Hormozi told rapt jurors. “Why? Because they were New York City police detectives.

“The defendants went into business together, and the business was crime. Even worse, the defendants committed many of these crimes while sworn to protect the very people they preyed upon.” But the defendants’ lawyers scoffed that the feds’ main witnesses were a bunch of cowardly, killer canaries who only rolled over to the feds after being tossed in the pen for their own crimes.

“They called each other tough guys, goodfellas - until the jail door shut,” flamboyant mob lawyer Bruce Cutler sniped of the turncoats. “Then they wet their pants and called Mommy - the government.”

imageimageHistory Now Will Be Milosevic’s Judge
March 11, 2006

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP)

One of history’s most important trials has ended abruptly with the death of former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic. After four years, hundreds of witnesses, tens of thousands of documents and tens of millions of dollars, Milosevic can never be pronounced guilty or innocent.

The trial’s premature conclusion also raises questions about the conduct of tribunal judges who made key decisions that led to an exhausting, expensive five-year process. “That’s $200 million down the drain” said Michael Scharf, a former State Department attorney and an expert in international criminal law.

As in previous cases with the death of a defendant, the indictment was to be withdrawn. “The proceedings will be terminated,” tribunal spokeswoman Alexandra Milenov said. Milosevic, 64, who was extradited to The Hague in June 2001, was found lifeless in his bed early Saturday at the U.N. detention center. He had been defending himself against 66 counts of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide in Croatia, Bosnia and
Kosovo during the 1990s.

“It’s a huge setback for justice,” said Richard Dicker, legal adviser of Human Rights Watch. “Most of all, it’s a setback for the victims.” Chief U.N. war crimes prosecutor Carla Del Ponte said she regretted Milosevic’s death because she believed she would have won his conviction. According to the schedule dictated by the court, he had only a few weeks to go before winding up his defense and handing over the massive case to the three judges to begin their deliberations.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia was created in 1993 to try those responsible for atrocities during the Balkan wars then raging. It was the first experiment in international war crimes jurisprudence since World War II, and was the model for the creation of more tribunals. But the success of the court was being weighed by the happenings in Courtroom I, where the defiant, combative Serb leader sparred with witnesses and judges alike.

His victims and former enemies lamented their lost chance to hear the verdict of impartial judges. “Justice was late,” said Hashim Thaci, the leader of ethnic Albanian armed insurgency against Milosevic’s forces in 1998-99 in Kosovo’s capital Pristina. “God took him.” The possibility of his death before the trial’s conclusion was the trial judges’ nightmare. With his history of chronic heart problems, frequent flu attacks, late nights preparing his defense and the stress of the courtroom, Milosevic was always at high risk.

An Eye For An Eye

The NY Times buried this story on page 18 even as they ran a massive three-part series with a glowing portrait of the imam of a Brooklyn mosque (while glossing over his sympathies for the terrorist group Hamas). I can’t think of a better reason to post it here in living color.

Yes, Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar is a fruitcake. The problem is he’s an Iranian fruitcake (there does seem to be an awful lot of that species). So he rents a big SUV and tries to kill as many “American infidels” as possible. After he was allowed to come to the US and get an education in one of our top universities. He is being held on $5.5 million bond. Cue up the ACLU to make sure his rights are protected and make sure the Liberals know where to protest his sentence at his execution.

Oh ... did I forget to mention that his countrymen back home are trying to build a nuclear bomb ... ?

imageimageDefendant Offers Details of Jeep Attack at University
March 8, 2006

(NEW YORK TIMES)

The man charged with nine counts of attempted murder for driving a Jeep through a crowd at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last Friday told the police that he deliberately rented a four-wheel-drive vehicle so he could “run over things and keep going,” according to court papers released yesterday by investigators.

Details in the search warrant for the Carrboro, N.C., apartment of the defendant, Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, suggest that he had planned his actions for months and was disappointed the attack had not done more damage. None of the nine people who were struck by the Jeep Grand Cherokee as they were standing in a campus commons area known as the Pit were seriously injured.

According to statements taken by the police, Mr. Taheri-azar, 22, an Iranian-born graduate of the university, felt that the United States government had been “killing his people across the sea” and that his actions reflected “an eye for an eye.”

He also told investigators he had been thinking about taking some kind of retaliatory action for two years and had been planning last Friday’s attack for two months, the warrant said. He said he was disappointed that more people were not in the commons around noon, when the area is typically crowded, and he told a detective, Matthew Dodson, that he rented the four-wheel-drive vehicle so he could inflict as much damage as possible.
