Vigilante Justice

District Attorney Mike Nifong is being set up to take the fall for his unethical handling of the “Duke Lacrosse” rape case. There are however more than one guilty party in this sorry mess, including the media, the cops and most importantly ... the Duke professors who publicly vilified the lacrosse players long before they ever went to trial. These tenured leftist bigots pushed Nifong and convicted the boys more than a year ago. Now they refuse to back down even after their hasty assumptions and actions have proven to be false. For further enlightenment I suggest you read ”Dukes Tenured Vigilantes” by Charlotte Allen in the current issue of the WEEKLY STANDARD. Here is an excerpt ...

Mike Nifong’s handling of the case was clearly outrageous. But he would probably not have gone so far, indeed would not have dared to go so far, had he not been egged on by two other groups that rushed just as quickly to judge the three accused young men guilty of gross and racially motivated carnal violence. Despite the repeated attempts by the three to clear themselves, a substantial and vocal percentage--about one-fifth--of the Duke University arts and sciences faculty and nearly all of the mainstream print media in America quickly organized themselves into a hanging party. Throughout the spring of 2006 and indeed well into the late summer, Nifong had the nearly unanimous backing of this country’s (and especially Duke’s) intellectual elite as he explored his lurid theories of sexual predation and racist stonewalling.

“They fed off each other,” said Steven Baldwin, a Duke chemistry professor who finally broke his faculty colleagues’ own wall of silence on October 24, publishing a letter in the Duke student newspaper, the Chronicle, denouncing his fellow professors for what he called their “shameful” treatment of Seligmann and Finnerty and rebuking the Duke administration for having “disowned its lacrosse-playing student athletes.” In April, Duke president and English professor Richard Brodhead had abruptly suspended not only Seligmann and Finnerty but also the remainder of the Duke lacrosse season, plus a third player, Ryan McFadyen (also recently reinstated), who had nothing to do with the alleged assault but had made the mistake of sending an email to his teammates on the early morning of March 14 describing a plan to “kill” and “skin” some “strippers” in his dorm room (like the “cotton shirt” remark, this was another tasteless joke, parodying Bret Easton Ellis’s novel American Psycho). That same day, April 5, Brodhead told the lacrosse team’s coach, Michael Pressler, that he had until the end of the day to leave campus for good.

There was a fascinating irony in this. Postmodern theorists pride themselves in discerning what they call “metanarratives.” They argue that such concepts as, say, Christianity or patriotism or the American legal system are no more than socially constructed tall tales that the postmodernists can then “deconstruct” to unmask the real purpose behind them, which is (say the postmodernists) to prop up societal structures of--yes, you guessed it--race, gender, class, and white male privilege. Nonetheless, in the Duke lacrosse case the theorists manufactured a metanarrative of their own, based upon the fact that Durham, North Carolina, is in the South, and the alleged assailants happened to be white males from families wealthy enough to afford Duke’s tuition, while their alleged victim was an impoverished black woman who, as she told the Raleigh News and Observer in a credulous profile of her published on March 25, was stripping only to support her two children and to pay her tuition as a student at North Carolina Central University, a historically black state college in Durham that is considerably less prestigious than Duke. All the symbolic elements of a juicy race/gender/class/white-male-privilege yarn were present. The theorists went to town.

The metanarrative they came up with was three parts Mandingo and one part Josephine Baker: rich white plantation owners and their scions lusting after tawny-skinned beauties and concocting fantasies of their outsize sexual appetites so as to rape, abuse, and prostitute them with impunity. It mattered little that all three accused lacrosse players hailed from the Northeast, or that there have been few, if any, actual incidents of gang rapes of black women by wealthy white men during the last 40 years. Karla Holloway’s online essay was replete with imagery derived from this lurid antebellum template. She described the accuser and her fellow stripper as “kneeling” in “service to” white male “presumption of privilege,” and as “bodies available for taunt and tirade, whim and whisper” in “the subaltern spaces of university life and culture.” On April 13, Wahneema Lubiano, a Duke literature professor, wrote in another online article, “I understand the impulse of those outraged and who see the alleged offenders as the exemplars of the upper end of the class hierarchy, the politically dominant race and ethnicity, the dominant gender, the dominant sexuality, and the dominant social group on campus.”

Nifong Faces Additional Charges
N.C. State Bar augments ethics complaint against Duke lacrosse prosecutor
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - January 24, 2007, 3:28 PM EST

The state bar lodged new and more serious ethics charges Wednesday against the district attorney in the Duke lacrosse case, accusing him of withholding evidence from the defense and lying to both to the court and bar investigators.

Mike Nifong—who withdrew from the case earlier this month—could be disbarred if convicted by a disciplinary board. The bar previously charged Nifong with making misleading and prejudicial comments about the athletes under suspicion.

The new charges are tied to Nifong’s decision to use a private lab for DNA testing as his office investigated allegations three men raped a 28-year-old stripper at a team party last March.

Those tests uncovered genetic material from several men on the woman’s underwear and body, but none from any lacrosse player. The bar complaint alleges that those results were not released to the defense and that Nifong repeatedly said in court he had turned over all evidence that could benefit the defense.

The new charges “have significantly increased the chances for a serious sanction, possibly including suspension or disbarment,” said Thomas Metzloff, a Duke law professor and member of the bar’s ethics committee, which is not involved in prosecuting the case against Nifong.

Nifong’s trial on the ethics charges is set for May, though bar officials said Wednesday they expect it to be delayed until June. He declined to comment Wednesday.

“I’d say any time any charges are filed with the state bar, they’re all serious, and we want to make sure we handle them all properly,” said his attorney David Freedman.

Democrats on Campus

Twenty-six years ago I first encountered the problem of Democrats on campus. Back then, though, they weren’t professors.

Churchill Fired

I only want to post this because Vilmar said it wouldn’t happen. And in fact, it hasn’t happened until the fat lady sings… or the appeals run out.

BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado announced Monday that it will dismiss controversial professor Ward Churchill.

“Today, I issued to Professor Churchill a notice of intent to dismiss him from his faculty position at the University of Colorado Boulder,” CU Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano said Monday afternoon.

Churchill has 10 days to appeal which entails making a request to have the university president or chancellor forward the recommendation to the faculty senate Committee on Privilege and Tenure. A special panel will then conduct hearings on the matter and make a recommendation to the president on whether grounds for dismissal are supported.

Another committee found Churchill guilty of research misconduct and another panel recommended that he be fired because of “repeated and deliberate” infractions of scholarship rules.

Having reread this before posting, Vilmar may yet be vindicated.

Leftist Loon

Noam Chomsky is the poster child for the Looney Left. In fact, he is probably their “prophet” having taken an anti-American position on just about every issue in his books and teachings. He just concluded a trip to Lebanon where he sucked up to Hezbollah and made all kind of wild accusations about the US, Israel and the Hezbollah “freedom fighters”.

All he has accomplished is to further inflame the region and encourage Hezbollah to continue its forty year terrorist war against Israel. As usual, the facts get twisted beyond belief. Chomsky conveniently forgets that the reason Israel invaded Lebanon was because Hezbollah was sitting on the border lobbing missiles and bombs into Israel. Israel finally had enough but Chomsky totally ignores that aspect of the conflict - just as he ignores anything but his own dyspeptic agenda.

Chomsky Hails Hezbollah On TV
Leftist American professor says U.S. leading terrorist state
May 17, 2006 1:00 a.m. Eastern

Hosted by Hezbollah, leftist professor Noam Chomsky ended his visit to Lebanon with a tour of Al-Khiam Prison where he declared the terrorist group’s success in removing Israel from the south was “a victory for all the peoples that fight injustice and oppression.”

In a broadcast by Hezbollah’s Al Manar television Sunday, translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute, Chomsky was shown embracing Hezbollah leader Nabil Qauq at Al-Khiam, where Israel kept prisoners during its occupation of southern Lebanon. Hezbollah was credited with liberating the area after Israel withdrew in 2000.

The U.S. State Department lists Hezbollah as a “terrorist organization.” Hezbollah Sec.-Gen. Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah frequently calls for destruction of the U.S. In a February speech aired on Al Manar, he led a crowd in chants, “America, America you are the Great Satan … America, America, the enemy of the Muslims … Those who have come at night, like bats, will hear Lebanon saying: Death to America.”

On Saturday, Al Manar quoted Chomsky responding to Hezbollah’s designation by the U.S. as a terrorist state. The professor said that “if the U.S. was to stick to the clear and precise definition of terrorism in its code of laws, it would be the leading terrorist state.”

A reporter asked Chomsky how the U.S. views his visit. “I don’t know what their response will be, and I don’t care,” he said.

- Read the rest at WorldNet Daily...

That last really says it all, doesn’t it? Chomsky doesn’t care what the US thinks of his actions. What he fails to realize is the American people, not just the government, are taking a real dim view of his anti-American hatred. Maybe if he had his citizenship revoked he could stay over in Lebanon, Syria or Iran where I’m sure his views are more properly appreciated and admired.

Professor Speak With Forked Tongue

When we last checked up on Chief Babbling Bulls**t he was travelling around the country stirring up trouble at every leftist organization he could find and defending his public contention that the people killed in the World Trade Center on 9/11 were “little Eichmanns” (Wikipedia: “Adolph Eichmann") and deserved to die.

His teaching schedule at the University Of Colorado had been cut back to only one class while an investigation was underway into charges of plagiarism and misconduct. The investigative committee finally reached a verdict. Guilty. So long, Ward. Enjoy your retirement. Sue if you want. You lawyer will probably speak with a forked tongue also. Those 3,000 innocent souls who perished on 9/11 are at peace. You sir, still have a lot to answer for ...

imageimageColorado Professor Cited for Misconduct
May 16, 2006, 3:14 PM EDT

BOULDER, Colo. (AP)—An investigation of a professor who likened some of the Sept. 11 victims to a Nazi found serious cases of misconduct in his academic research, including plagiarism and fabrications, a University of Colorado spokesman said Tuesday.

One member of the five-person investigative committee recommended that ethnic studies professor Ward Churchill be fired, and four recommended he be suspended, university spokesman Barrie Hartman said.

Churchill, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, declined immediate comment Tuesday.

The professor touched off a firestorm with an essay relating the 2001 terrorist attacks to U.S. abuses abroad. The essay referred to some World Trade Center victims as “little Eichmanns,” a reference to Adolf Eichmann, who carried out Adolf Hitler’s plan to exterminate European Jews during World War II.

University officials had earlier determined Churchill could not be fired for his comments about the terrorist attacks, but they launched an inquiry into allegations about his research.

The committee’s 125-page report said Churchill falsified, fabricated and plagiarized some of his research, did not always comply with standards for listing other authors’ names and failed to follow accepted practice for reporting results.

The decision on his future at the university will be made by school officials later this year. Churchill has said if he is fired, he will sue.

Churchill’s wife, Natsu Saito, who also teaches in the ethnic studies department, said Tuesday she had resigned her tenured teaching position at the school but said she and Churchill have no plans to leave Boulder.

In her resignation letter, Saito accused the university of reneging on promises to her and the department, ignoring racial harassment of the department and individuals, and treating Churchill unfairly. She said her decision to resign was not prompted by the pending report.

Pirate Ballerina has the full scoop and ongoing coverage of Chief Babbling Bulls**t.

Crime & Punishment

I just got a hot tip from John over at StopTheACLU.com about the lunatic professor at Northern Kentucky University who was recently fired for destroying an anti-abortion display with help from her students. I turns out she is probably going to do a little jail time and pay a fine along with the students involved. Do you think this fascist beeyatch will learn a lesson about freedom of speech? Nah. Leftists never learn anything. Too stoopid ...

imageimageA professor and six students at Northern Kentucky University were charged Wednesday with misdemeanors related to the April 12 destruction of an anti-abortion display on campus.

Sally Jacobsen of the literature and language department, has been charged with criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking and criminal solicitation. The third charge relates to evidence that she encouraged students to participate in the destruction, County Attorney Justin Verst said.

The six students, who range in age from 21 to 27, were charged with criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking. The theft charge is a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $500 fine. The criminal mischief and solicitation charges are class B misdemeanors punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $250 fine.

Verst said additional students might be charged as their identities become known. Four hundred crosses representing aborted fetuses were pulled from the ground and thrown in trash cans around campus. A sign explaining the temporary display, which had been approved by university officials as an expression of free speech, was also removed.

Jacobsen told reporters that she had “invited” students in her graduate-level British literature course to exercise free-speech by destroying the display. She said she was offended by the simulated cemetery, which she considered intimidating and harmful to women who might be considering abortions. NKU’s campus newspaper, the Northerner, published photos of Jacobsen dismantling part of the display.

Since the incident became public, NKU’s president has received hundreds of e-mails from throughout the country condemning the professor’s actions. She was placed on leave last week, and substitutes were assigned to her classes for the rest of the semester…

Follow The Money

image

John Trever—The Albuquerque Journal

A college can be stripped of federal funding if its law school denies full access to military recruiters because it opposes the “don’t ask, don’t tell’’ policy on gays and lesbians in the armed forces, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously Monday.

The court rejected law schools’ arguments that requiring them to treat the Pentagon like any other employer violated their freedom of speech by forcing them to spread a message they oppose.

“Accommodating the military’s message does not affect the law schools’ speech, because the schools are not speaking when they host interviews and recruiting receptions,’’ Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the 8-0 decision. Justice Samuel Alito, who was not on the court when the case was argued in December, did not participate.

Black Sheep

Quote Of The Day: “she didn’t believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce.”

Winner of the Congressional Medal Of Honor and the Navy Cross not a good example? Unbelievable. Do these spoiled brats have even a remote clue what their lives would be like if not for men like “Pappy” Boyington? For one thing they’d be eating sushi and driving Japanese cars. (!) Scratch that. You know what I mean.

What, in the name of all that’s rational, gives these pampered, pusillanimous pricks the utter gall to spew out words like this: “many monuments at UW already commemorate rich white men”? For the record, Boyington was not rich and was part Sioux. These dipshits can’t even get their stories straight.

I am outraged that these spoiled brats who live in an academic ivory tower, sponging off their parents and working on a degree in some liberal arts bullshit are even allowed to speak in public, much less be a “senator” in a student body.

I call shame on the entire University of Washington. It is indeed appropriate that the school mascot is a “husky” because the student body has damned sure gone to the dogs ....

imageimageStudents Reject Honor To ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’ Hero

(WORLDNET DAILY)

The University of Washington’s student senate rejected a memorial for alumnus Gregory “Pappy” Boyington of “Black Sheep Squadron” fame amid concerns a military hero who shot down enemy planes was not the right kind of person to represent the school.

Student senator Jill Edwards, according to minutes of the student government’s meeting last week, said she “didn’t believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce.” Ashley Miller, another senator, argued “many monuments at UW already commemorate rich white men.”

Senate member Karl Smith amended the resolution to eliminate a clause that said Boyington “was credited with destroying 26 enemy aircraft, tying the record for most aircraft destroyed by a pilot in American Uniform,” for which he was awarded the Navy Cross.

Smith, according to the minutes, said “the resolution should commend Colonel Boyington’s service, not his killing of others.” The senate’s decision was reported first by Seattle radio talk-host Kirby Wilbur of KVI, whose listeners were “absolutely incensed,” according to producer Matt Haver. Brent Ludeman, president of the university’s College Republicans, told WND in an e-mail the decision “reflects poorly on the university.”

“Pappy Boyington went beyond the call of duty to serve and protect this country – he simply deserves better,” Ludeman said. “Just last year, the university erected a memorial to diversity. Why can’t we do the same for Pappy Boyington and others who have defended our country?”

The resolution points out Boyington, a student at the UW from 1930-34, served as a combat pilot in the 1st Squadron, American Volunteer Group – the “Flying Tigers of China” – and later as a Marine Corps combat pilot in charge of Marine Fighting Squadron 214, “The Black Sheep Squadron.” Along with the Navy Cross, Boyington was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his heroism. He was shot down and spent 20 months in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp.

The resolution says, “Be it resolved … [t]hat we consider Col. Gregory Boyington, United States Marine Corps, to be a prime example of the excellence that this university represents and strives to impart upon its students, and, That we desire for a memorial for Col. Boyington be commenced by the University of Washington by 11 January 2008, the twentieth anniversary of his death, which will be publicly displayed, so that all who come here in future years will know that the University of Washington produced one of this country’s bravest men, and that we as a community hold this fact in the highest esteem.”

It’s The Real Thing

It may be “the real thing” and “things may go better with Coke” but Liberal universities and socialist student groups disagree. They claim Coke is busting unions and harassing employees in Colombia with paramilitary thugs. Basically, the goobers of academia and their leftist robots in the student body think Coke is not playing by the rules. There’s the rub. How does Coke disprove that? How can anyone prove a negative? What do I mean? Pay attention ...

Suppose someone says, “The Skipper picks his nose.” How do I prove that I do not pick my nose? That’s called “proving a negative” and is an almost impossible feat. Think about it. How can I prove I don’t pick my nose? I can let you sit and watch me 24 hours a day forever and if I never pick my nose before you or I die, then I might have proven the negative but that still leaves open the question of what I was doing before you started watching, doesn’t it?

In the same vein, how does Coke prove it is not brutalizing its employees in Colombia? Do the universities want to watch Coke 24 hours a day to see if they are doing wrong? How long must they watch before they’re satisfied? Do you think the universities would be satisfied if the Colombian Attorney General conducted an investigation? If so, you would be wrong. That has already been done and Coke was found innocent of any wrongdoing.

Another thing that bothers me about this is that Coke is Colombia’s second largest customer for exported goods. The largest customer being, of course, all the cocaine addicts here in America (Juan Valdez and his coffee beans are way back in a distant third place). Coke buys the coca plants and runs them through a process to remove the cocaine hydrochloride. What’s left is the safe coca plant leaves which give Coke its taste. Now if these universities and leftist groups did somehow manage to put Coke out of business or even drive them out of Colombia, what do you think would happen? Well, first of all Coca-Cola’s soft drinks would taste different without the coca flavor and second, what do you think would happen to all those coca plants that Coke would no longer be buying? Take three guesses ....

Finally, it saddens me to see institutions of higher learning stepping into politics, blackmailing companies, making wild accusations and just generally doing everything except what they’re supposed to do - namely educate our young people. It also saddens me to see those same young people spending their time working as willing accomplices to these devious ends rather than getting an education. What the University of Michigan and this ridiculous student group are offering instead of an education and something of benefit to society, are slander, blackmail and propaganda. That’s my opinion and I’m stickin’ to it ...

imageimageCoke Is Out At University Of Michigan
School Cites Human Rights Abuse Allegations
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WKMG-TV)

The University of Michigan suspended sales of Coca-Cola products on its three campuses over allegations that the company permits human rights and environmental abuses abroad. The suspension, which begins Jan. 1, will affect vending machines, residence halls, cafeterias and campus restaurants. Coke’s contracts with the university are worth about $1.4 million.

The university and the company say they will continue to negotiate. “The University of Michigan is an important school, and I respect the way they worked with us on this issue,” said Kari Bjorhus, a spokeswoman for The Coca-Cola Co., told The Detroit News. “We are continuing to try hard to work with the university to address concerns and assure them about our business practices.”

Michigan’s decision was prompted by a complaint last year from Students Organizing for Labor and Economic Equality. The student group accused Coke of draining local groundwater in India and conspiring with paramilitary groups in Colombia to harass and harm union members. The company has repeatedly denied the allegations.

The university, which has more than 50,000 students, decided not to renew its contracts when Coke said it was unable to meet a Dec. 31 deadline to cooperate in an investigation of circumstances in Colombia. The university and several other colleges had offered to fund the investigation. Bjorhus said Thursday that a pending civil lawsuit prevented the company from participating.

In a statement on the company Web site, the company said allegations involving its operations in Colombia are false and the company has been “an exemplary member of the business community” there. At least nine schools have stopped selling Coke products, citing Colombia as one of the reasons, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In the interest of equal time, here is the Coca-Cola company’s official response.

imageimageThe allegations against our business in Colombia are false. We have been in Colombia for 70 years and have been an exemplary member of the business community. The plaintiffs’ accusations do not reflect the facts on the ground in Colombia.

The Coca-Cola Company and our bottlers have investigated the claims regarding human rights abuses in Colombia and found no evidence to support them. We will continue to work to ensure that our Company and our bottling partners operate under the highest standards in Colombia.

Our Company has been a valuable member of the Colombian community for more than 70 years and our bottling partners respect the rights of employees, including those who choose third-party representation or union membership. In fact, our bottling partners enjoy extensive, normal relations with 12 separate unions in Colombia and currently have collective bargaining agreements in place with all of them covering wages, benefits and working conditions.

If any employee feels unsafe, local bottlers, working with local unions and the Colombian government, provide transportation to and from work, loans for secure housing, loans to improve security of union offices, paid cellular phones for emergency use, shift and job changes and legal aid.

Note: The clever artwork in the two pictures above are my doing and did not come from either the Coca-Cola Company or the University Of Michigan. Now, are all the lawyers happy? If you all will pardon me, I intend to go buy several cases of Coca-Cola and celebrate Michigan’s loss to Nebraska in the Alamo Bowl last Wednesday. Go Huskers! Have a Coke on me!

Freedom Of Speech

Ann Coulter never gives up. She continues to try to convince Leftists to use their heads and act rationally. It ain’t gonna happen, Ann. Liberals like these college students are blinded by their own hate. They don’t want to hear any opposing opinion. All they know is that they need to shut up the opposition even if it means throwing pies ...

STORRS, Conn. (AP)

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter cut short a speech at the University of Connecticut amid boos and jeers, and decided to hold a question-and-answer session instead. “I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am,” Coulter told the crowd of 2,600 Wednesday.

Before cutting off her speech after about 15 minutes, Coulter called Bill Clinton an “executive buffoon” who won the presidency only because Ross Perot took 19 percent of the vote. Coulter’s appearance prompted protests from several student groups. About 100 people rallied outside the auditorium where she spoke, saying she spread a message of intolerance.

“We encourage diverse opinion at UConn, but this is blatant hate speech,” said Eric Knudsen, a 19-year-old sophomore journalism and social welfare major who heads campus group Students Against Hate. It wasn’t the first time Coulter has had trouble at a university speech. In October 2004, two men ran onstage and threw custard pies as she was giving a speech at the University of Arizona.

UConn junior Kareem Mohni, 20, said he was disgusted by his peers’ reaction to Coulter. “It really appalled me that we’re not able to come together as a group and listen to a different view in a respectful environment,” Mohni said.

Whither Ward?

Whazzup with Ward Churchill (aka, Chief Sitting Bullshit) these days? Haven’t heard much from him lately, have we? Could it be he is hiding? Running out of steam? Exhausted his fifteen minuutes of fame? All of the above? Inquiring minds want to know. Fortunately, Pirate Ballerina has a running commentary going (and is actually in e-mail communication with the fake redman himself) and is tracking all the movements of the elusive “injun-wannabe”. Go get your Churchill “fix” and find out the latest shenanigans of Running BareAss and the trouble he is in now ....

Call For Papers

Go ahead. Give it your best shot, people. Submit your paper today. You might even get published. Yes, this is for real (but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with it) ....

Call for Papers

Toilet Papers: The Gendered Construction of Public Toilets

Editors:
Olga Gershenson (University of Massachusetts-Amherst)
Barbara Penner (University College-London)

“You know what they say about men who hang around women’s lavatories. They’re asking to have their illusions shattered.”
- Georgina to Albert, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover

We invite contributions for the edited collection “Toilet Papers: The Gendered Construction of Public Toilets”.

Public toilets are amenities with a functional, even a civic, purpose. Yet they also act as the unconscious of public spaces. They can be a haven: a place to regain composure, to ‘check one’s face,’ or to have a private chat. But they are also sexually-charged and transgressive spaces that shelter illicit sexual practices and act as a cultural repository for taboos and fantasies.

This collection will work from the premise that public toilets, far from being banal or simply functional, are highly charged spaces, shaped by notions of propriety, hygiene and the binary gender division. Indeed, public toilets are among the very few openly segregated spaces in contemporary Western culture, and the physical differences between ‘gentlemen’ and ‘ladies’ remains central to (and is further naturalized by) their design. As such, they provide a fertile ground for critical work interrogating how conventional assumptions about the body, sexuality, privacy, and technology can be formed in public space and inscribed through design.

We welcome papers which explore the cultural meanings, histories, and ideologies of the public toilet as a gendered space. Any subject is appropriate: toilet design and signage, toilet humour and euphemisms, personal narratives and legal cases, as well as art sited in public toilets. We invite submissions in the format of traditional academic papers of no more than 7000 words (including footnotes).

We also welcome the submissions of design and art projects that expose the gendered nature of the ‘functional’ toilet spaces and objects.

Papers may be submitted to:

Clueless College Clowns

Professor Bainbridge has a photo-essay about some clueless UCLA students

A group of UCLA students plan a student strike tomorrow in support of a one-day strike by UCLA service workers, whose union includes custodians and groundskeepers.

In their zeal, the students have plastered these posters on sidewalks all over campus; e.g., in the sculpture garden.

You will have spotted the irony, of course: the groundskeepers the kids purport to be supporting are the very people who will have to get these glued-down posters off the sidewalks.

Of course, they don’t see it this way, they see it as “going against the man” and “supporting the working poor” and “justice”. The irony is that these twerps will probably graduate, get good paying jobs and hire illegal aliens to tend their gardens and cook their meals for $3 per hour. Count on it!

Vagina Warrior?!?!?!?!

We’ve all heard of Protest Warrior, right?  Their having a rally this weekend in Chicago, according to our Annoying Little Twerp.

But Vagina Warriors?

Read Professor Mike Adams’ piece on what is going on at the University of NC.

They recently put on The Vagina Monologues and this is what was seen:

--flashing marquees on the streets (near several churches) flashing “VAGINA” in large letters

--lollipops shaped like vaginas on sale in the entrance with:

members of our university community walk(ing) around licking the sex-organ-shaped treats in an apparent display of feminist empowerment.

--skits titled:  “My angry vagina,” “My vagina was my village,” “The little coochie snorcher that could,” and “Reclaiming c--t.”

--they even asked a six year old (YES, 6 YEARS OLD!!!):

“If your vagina got dressed, what would it wear?”; “If it could speak what would it say?” and; “What does your vagina smell like?”

This is what passes for education and female empowerment at our universities.

Meanwhile, Harvard is still attempting to dump President Summers by passing a vote of no confidence in his abilities.

Remember, we talked about him here and an article about it here.

It’s important to note he prefaced everything he said with words to the effect that he was going to provoke them with ideas in order to get their thought processes rolling.  Even so, feminists walked out and are now demanding his head----for ideas!!!!

It makes you wonder:  Why are these feminists so stupid?  And do they ever get laid?  Is that why they are so angry at the world?

One more thing:  please do read what Walter Williams has to say about this whole Summers thing.  You’ll chuckle as he drives the knife home into feminists and edu-crats in the last 2 paragraphs.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
