Racist Revisionist Bullshit

Website names obscure 14th century African king the richest person in history

Step aside, Bill Gates. Meet Mansa Musa I of Mali, a 14th century African king whose estimated $400 billion fortune makes him the richest human being in all of history, according to the website Celebrity Net Worth.

The website released a list last week of the wealthiest people who ever lived, claiming it had adjusted for inflation to bring the fortunes into 2012 dollars.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates, whose fortune peaked during the dot.com bubble at what would be $136 billion in today’s dollars, ranks at No. 12, though he is now worth about half as much, according to the website.

This bit of “art” that looks drawn by a 10 year old accompanies the article.

You’re supposed to believe it’s a Genuine African Artifact.

Britain’s voodoo killers. Warning. This isn’t a pleasant read.

There isn’t any doubt this will be the most disturbing and gruesome post I have ever done.  In my wildest imaginings of the evil ppl do, until sometime last year when I first became aware, I still didn’t know it had gone this far and for so long a time.  Reports say at least ten years.

I have done some editing but, due to the nature of the subject, this is not a short post. And oh btw:

Lets hear it for multi culture and diversity folks.

Remember that very old story about a farmer inviting a pig into his house and clothing it etc.?  It was still a piggy and it still crapped wherever it wanted to even though it was the smartest animal in his barnyard.  Something like that.
Another way saying something about a leopard’s spots.

Well, this gruesome story reminds me of that.  I love cats, but if I dressed a cat up in a suit and tie, it would still be a cat and it would still, we would hope, use the damn litter box.
But this is a very different sort of animal. An almost human one.

They’ve been taught to read and write and given opportunities to better themselves which some have for sure.  But the life forms that have been coming out of some of the backward places mentioned, are not quite the same.  They may look it and act it when it’s necessary, but once on their own, where no one can see, they quickly revert to what they actually are.

Savages, and vicious ones at that.  They are NOT capable of integrating and a thousand years from today, they will be exactly as they are now, which is what they were a thousand years ago.  Savages.

This is without a doubt the most disturbing article I have ever posted here. And it is not done for shock value, although it may shock a few.  Mostly I think, this won’t surprise many as it’s pretty much expected.

This isn’t for the squeamish.

the louder the victim screams, the more potent the magic.

Britain’s voodoo killers: This week a minister warned of a wave of child abuse and killings linked to witchcraft. Alarmist? This investigation suggests otherwise

By SUE REID

They appeared to be upright and decent members of our society. She dressed smartly, and had worked for Marks & Spencer. ( a major dept. store chain)

He drove a top-of-the-range Mercedes and spent his spare time coaching a local women’s football team.

But unbeknown to their neighbours and friends, this couple living in their suburban London flat led a terrifying secret life.

They practised African black magic or voodoo, and on Christmas Day in 2010 they murdered a teenage boy in the belief he was a witch.
To rid the 15-year-old of his ‘demons’, the couple attacked him with knives, sticks, metal bars, a hammer, pliers and a chisel until he begged to die.

After three days of torture, Kristy Bamu was put in the bath and hosed down with cold water to get rid of the blood on his body. Horribly injured, he slid under the water as the bath filled up, and drowned.

Details of Kristy’s murder were revealed at a trial at London’s Old Bailey which ended earlier this year.
Football coach Eric Bikubi, 28, and his partner, Magalie Bamu, 29, Kristy’s sister, were each sentenced to life imprisonment for killing him at their eighth-floor apartment in Newham, East London.

The case was a shocking reminder of how witchcraft, with its roots in Africa, South Asia and the Caribbean, is now practised in the heart of our multicultural cities and towns.

more than 130 dreadful injuries on his body. His face was unrecognisable and pounded to a pulp.

Nine days before Kristy’s death, a mother disembowelled her four-year-old daughter to ‘exorcise evil spirits’ at her home in Hackney, London.

Shayma Ali strangled the child before stabbing her 40 times with a kitchen knife because she believed she was possessed by a spirit referred to in the Koran.

She had removed the eyes from the little girl’s toys to stop them ‘seeing’ the child’s evil ways.

Particularly prized are the genitalia of young boys and virgin girls. Cut from a live child they are thought to add more potency because of the victim’s screams

Last month, four family members were found guilty of murdering a pregnant 21-year-old woman whom they claimed was ‘possessed’ by ‘evil spirits’.
Mohammed Tauseef Mumtaz, 25, and his parents and brother-in-law were found guilty of killing his wife three years ago.

And just this week a Nigerian couple were sentenced to seven years in jail after abusing their children — who they believed to be possessed — for ten years.  Their crimes were only uncovered after their eldest daughter threw a note into the street outside her window, begging for help.

Oh great. Abuse for 10 years and serve 7 for the abuse.  That’s what passes for justice in today’s fracked up world where if justice ruled, they’d deserve life at the least.

Police are investigating a tide of violent acts, often against children, by those who believe in witchcraft practices known as voodoo, kindoki, and juju. But a government minister has warned that political correctness is hampering their ability to prevent such atrocities.

Such horrors are barely credible yet detectives fear they are only scraping the surface of this hidden and abhorrent crime wave. They have linked witchcraft to huge money-making operations in which parents pay wads of cash for ‘deliverance’ ceremonies to stop their children being witches.

Horrific exorcism videos promoting the vile practice are on sale in Britain and I was able to buy them myself. Scotland Yard is now so alarmed at the rise in witchcraft ceremonies that it has established a special unit to investigate the ritual abuse of children in the name of religion and culture.
But these detectives are being hampered by a culture that is endemic throughout the state apparatus and conspires to hide the true enormity of what is happening.

The modern-day creed that immigrant communities must be free to follow their own cultures and customs, without questions or criticism, has allowed witchcraft and various rituals to flourish.

In June, it emerged that social workers at Islington Council, North London, considered sending an African boy back to his native land, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for an exorcism at the taxpayers’ expense because his mother claimed he was possessed by ‘kindoki’ or evil spirits and needed ‘deliverance’.
Astonishingly, the council paid Dr Richard Hoskins, an expert in African religion, £4,372 to travel to Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC, to investigate how and if the ceremony should take place, because social workers were worried the family’s ‘sensibilities might be affected’ if they didn’t obey the mother’s wishes.
Dr Hoskins met the grandparents in Kinsasha, who claimed the boy had been ‘infected by sorcery’ in Britain which would ‘destroy them all’. Church officials in the city also claimed that his evil spirits would lead to ‘strife, illness, divorce, hardship, poverty and death’ if not dealt with by the ritual. It would have involved depriving the boy of food and drink for three days to ‘cast out’ the bad spirits.

On his return, Dr Hoskins told Islington Council that the ceremony would leave the boy ‘disturbed and traumatised’. The extraordinary plan was dropped and the child is now in the care of the local authority.

However, as Dr Hoskins told a conference, the case highlights how ambivalent British officials can be towards tackling child abuse when it is committed under the guise of religious or cultural ceremonies and ‘masked by multiculturalism’

According to witch doctors, to kill a living person for medicinal purposes is the most empowering form of sacrifice and, the most potent form of all is to kill an innocent child.

At its heart, this abuse is rooted in the belief that a misfortune befalling a family can be blamed on their child being a witch.
The failure of an immigration appeal, a shortage of money, the loss of a job or an on-going housing problem have all been cited as reasons for a son or daughter being deemed to be ‘possessed by evil spirits’.
Even a misdemeanour such as bedwetting can put a child at risk of being labelled a witch — indeed, as we shall see, it was the fact that he wet himself that sealed Kristy Bamu’s terrible fate.

Likewise, girls from strict religious backgrounds who bring shame on their family honour by adopting Western attitudes have also been forced to undergo exorcism ceremonies where they are beaten and shouted at until they faint with terror.
Dr Hoskins, an academic who has studied witchcraft for 25 years, gave evidence at the Kristy Bamu murder trial, where he said: ‘Even among educated people in London, I’ve met those who believe in kindoki, as witchcraft is known in central and western Africa , and that it has powers.’
This first caught public attention with the death of eight-year-old Victoria Climbie more than a decade ago in 2000. Victoria was killed in London by her great-aunt and partner, who said the sweet little girl was a witch.

A year later the torso of a five-year-old Nigerian boy, named Adam by police, was found in the River Thames after he was sacrificed. Police believe he was smuggled into Britain and his body parts used in a ritual medical ceremony to save the life of someone in the migrant community who was dying of an incurable disease.

In some forms of African witchcraft, heads and other body parts can be buried in front of homes to keep bad spirits at bay. A cup of human blood is said to boost vitality. A powdered concoction made from pieces of brain is believed to lead to riches.

Particularly prized are the genitalia of young boys and virgin girls. If these body parts are cut from a live child they are thought to add even more potency because of the victim’s screams.

That such practices take place overseas has long been known. But now they are happening here after being imported from other countries — and in truth they have been going on for years.

He is alleged to have cut off his daughter’s head, legs and arms during a ritual to bring him luck.

The headless torso of a black baby girl was found hidden in bushes in Epping Forest way back in 1969. Scotland Yard are now reinvestigating her murder and think it may have been the earliest case of a killing linked to African witchcraft on British soil.
The girl’s father, from north-west Africa, quickly became the chief suspect, but fled the country before he could be arrested and questioned. He is alleged to have cut off his daughter’s head, legs and arms during a ritual to bring him luck.
According to police and migrant advisory services, witchcraft ceremonies are spreading because of the increasing number of unregulated back street churches and mosques that have broken away from the mainstream places of worship to cater for millions of new immigrants from Africa, South Asia and the Caribbean countries, providing a link to their birth countries, cultures and customs.
Many of these horrific events are filmed and can be found on videos selling for a couple of pounds in ethnic shops and market stalls in London. What they show is terrified children, accused of witchcraft, being freed of ‘demons’. In one video I bought, a white-robed pastor is shown hitting a five-year-old boy with a long stick as the congregation chants approval.
His mother cries, but is held back from freeing her son because it is thought — by the prayer goers — to be the best thing for the family and their child. They are scenes which police believe are being repeated week after week in cities such as London, Birmingham, Leicester and Manchester.

And, worryingly, Detective Superintendent Terry Sharpe of Scotland Yard says that witchcraft-linked crime is ‘far more prevalent’ in this country than official figures suggest.

‘Children have been physically beaten and forced to drink unknown liquids in rituals to rid them of evil spirits. They have been starved and deprived of sleep.

‘Children have been blindfolded and had their hair cut off. They have had liquid poured on their genitals and been murdered,’ he said after the Kristy case.
So what of this innocent boy’s killers, the couple who appeared to be pillars of their local community? At the time Eric Bikubi and Magalie Bamu were busy renovating their London flat and would talk on the stairways to neighbours who thought they were a perfectly ordinary and loving couple.
Five years earlier, Bikubi had even served as a community adviser on child protection issues in the London borough of Camden.

To his family and friends, he was a talkative man, mad about football, who had trials for Arsenal and claimed to have played alongside John Terry. As for Magalie, she tied back her long hair, dressed with some style and had loved her job at Marks & Spencer.
But behind closed doors, the couple could not have been more different from this presentable image.

His belief in witchcraft was so deeply ingrained that once, when he was in prison awaiting trial, he picked a fight with another inmate and was found licking blood from the man’s injured face.
It was to this murderous man’s home that an unwitting Kristy Bamu and his siblings were sent by their parents from their family home in Paris for a few days over Christmas in 2010.

His sisters, aged 20 and 11, were beaten along with Kristy, but escaped further attacks after ‘confessing’ to being witches. Two other boy relatives, aged 13 and 22, were made to join in the torture.

A nervous teenager, Kritsy wet himself during the visit and suddenly he was accused by Bikubi and Magalie of being a witch and bringing voodoo in the couple’s home.

Bikubi forced Kristy to pray for deliverance for three days and nights without food and water.

The boy had a metal bar shoved in his mouth, he was struck in the face with a hammer and his teeth were knocked out. One of his brothers was forced to stand guard so he could not escape, while some of his siblings were made to mop up his blood.

He begged for forgiveness during his ordeal, and even confessed to being a witch to try to save his own life. All to no avail. When Kristy died he had more than 130 dreadful injuries on his body. His face was unrecognisable and pounded to a pulp.

Savagely killed by an evil couple in the name of witchcraft, it seems certain he will not be the last child to be maimed or die.

president bush gets earful lecture on race

Lately I’ve been dipping in and out of a book by Pat Buchanan called The Death of the West.  This is probably the second time I have mentioned it, and at the risk of sounding shill like, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
While there are issues I have where I do not agree with Buchanan, he’s against assisted suicide for example, where I am all for it.  But overall, his is a very worthwhile book if you don’t mind being reminded how correct the right wing has been all these years, and getting angrier with every page. Cos he sure can back things up.  Before long, I think I am going to have to start quoting long tracts from his book, cos I can’t see many if any of you going out to buy it on my say so.
Interesting also is the fact that his book is ten years old, and as you read it you’re in the here and now.
Well, one of the subjects he covers is this part of the world and the exact attitudes you will read in this article from today’s morning paper.

Yes, it is true that white colonialists did take resources out of Afrika. And just what where the natives doing all those years before us honkys arrived?
Never mind, wanna talk about slavery?  Who sold who to who first? I don’t wanna get into that whole thing here. Just saying is all.

So, what we have here is a failure to communicate I suppose.
And why oh why does our former president have to travel there and make freeken nice to savages? And why spend his money?  What?  No place back home that can use the largess?

George W. Bush berated by Zambia’s Michael Sata on Africa trip

George W. Bush, the former US president, has received a dressing down from Zambia’s Michael Sata over the colonial legacy of Western countries whom he accused of “abandoning” Africa having stripped it of its natural resources.

By Aislinn Laing, Johannesburg

Mr Bush arrived in the southern African country last weekend with his wife Laura to promote the work of their cervical cancer prevention foundation, and paid a courtesy visit to the president at Lusaka’s State House.

There, Mr Sata, known as King Cobra for his sharp tongue and quick temper, told the 66-year-old Texan that his charitable efforts represented “payback time for colonialists”.

Mr Sata, 75, also complained about “the young man” Mr Bush being late for their meeting, adding that were he not bringing money to Africa, he would not have waited.

When the Bushes arrived and the three sat down to tea, Mr Sata told him: “Previously there used to be four great countries: United States of America, United Kingdom, Russia and France.

“And you have all drifted away; you have abandoned Africa after taking all our raw commodities, our raw materials and built your cities.

“I mean, as far as you are concerned, Africa doesn’t exist. And when we have a former colonialist like you coming back to pay back what you took out of this country, we are grateful.”

Mr Bush reportedly interjected: “Mr President, I don’t wanna be argumentative, but America was never a colonial nation. France might have been a colonial nation, Britain might have been a colonial nation, but not the United States of America.”

Mr Sata fired back that the Americans’ role in the slave industry made them equally culpable: “The Americans did not physically colonise us, but at the same time, the Americans still have scars of slavery,” he said.

Amid nervous laughter from their assembled entourages, Mr Bush replied: “No question about it.”

It is not the first time Mr Sata has bemoaned the waning role of the West in Africa. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph earlier this year, he said he was keen for his country’s former colonial master Britain to increase its influence to counterbalance a now heavy Chinese presence against which he campaigned so fiercely in previous elections. “Better the devil you know than one you don’t,” he added.

The Bushes were 15 minutes late to State House, having driven 90 miles from the northern city of Kabwe, where they had opened a health clinic refurbished with their money which will offer cervical and breast cancer screening to locals.

As he awaited Mr Bush’s arrival, Mr Sata complained to Priscilla Hernandez, the United States public affairs officer, that he did not like being kept waiting.

“Bush is former president; he is not the current president of the United States so I cannot be waiting for him,” he said.

“The young man is lucky that he is the first American leader to have brought money to Africa through his Millennium Challenge Account; that’s why I’m standing here. Otherwise if it was somebody else, I would have handed him over to one of my ministers to meet him.”

Mr Sata’s outburst is being viewed in some quarters as an embarrassing diplomatic incident.

But George Chellah, Mr Sata’s spokesman, said the two men were “old friends” and the entire encounter had been “light-hearted”.

“This talk of a diplomatic incident is invented by people bent on creating a storm in a teacup,” he said.

A diplomatic source said the scene had been “awkward, but not really an incident”. “You never know what to expect from Michael Sata,” the source said.

Americans still have scars of slavery
No we fuckin do not and it’s in his imagination along with the rest of the human rights industry scamers. Just plain bugs me no end.
I am damn sorry those long ago slavers brought “those savages” to our shores.  Wish it had never happened and that Mr. Sata’s ancestors had never sold them. But I will be truthful. My reasons are not for the morality of it all.  And I’d bet I am not alone in that.
And oh yeah.  Read Buchanan’s book.

more aid for poor africans insists bone head bono and libtard friends

And of course, the Brits are by no means playing the Lone Ranger here.
The white feel good thing and the guilt trip extends to other countries as well.
I clearly remember all the calls for African aid as young as the age of 14 or maybe 15.  Help the poor starving Africans, we were all told.
Sure thing. How about teaching them about something called birth control first?  Africans? Birth control?  Bite your tongue. No such thing.
So they over breed as is their nature, and produce more hungry mouths to feed and less resource to do so.  Meanwhile, back at the farm in a place where a mug named Robert Mugabe rules, white farmers have been driven from their homes and farms which have been given to, “the people” who’ve managed to produce more offspring but little else.

Let Africa sink, as Kim once wrote on an old retired blog.

But no.  Self important jerks like that has been Bono, insist that Western countries must spend tax dollars (and pounds) on yet more aid.

Well readers ..... PLEASE see this entire article at the link.

How your money is being squandered: The African village where EVERY family is getting £7,500 from the British taxpayer

By IAN BIRRELL

As I drew up in the bustling village after a long journey, the last 21 miles bouncing along a red dirt track riven with potholes, a group of a dozen men sprawled in the shade on ramshackle wooden benches waved me over.

They were farmers, resting after a hard day’s labour. Children scampered around alongside goats munching weeds, while women stirred bubbling pots outside family compounds made up of circular mud huts.

Even in this remote part of northern Ghana, the influence of British football could be seen with the presence of the odd Chelsea shirt.

My translator, introducing me in the local Mampruli language, explained I came from the nation that was home to the famous team.

The farmers of this settlement, called Kpasenkpe, were not surprised to see me: ‘There have been a lot of white people coming here recently,’ said Atta Kojo, 32. ‘I think they were experts in health and education, but they never told us what they were doing. We did not understand why they were here.’

n fact, their visitors included the rock star Bono, who was there in January, together with Jeffrey Sachs, a ‘celebrity’ economist who hangs out with the likes of Angelina Jolie and Bill Clinton. Bono and Sachs are two of the world’s leading cheerleaders for international aid.

The reason they visited — with the editor of liberal newspaper the Observer in tow — was to announce that Kpasenkpe had been chosen as their next Millennium Village.

‘You are going to see an improvement in the lives of your people,’ proclaimed Sachs in his usual messianic style.

He promised cheering villagers that in five years they would see incomes increase, farming improve and better schools and health care.

This UN-backed Millennium Village project — to which Britain is now contributing millions of pounds for the first time — began in 2004 and encompasses half a million Africans.

It is designed to prove that targeted aid can lift such places out of poverty in just five years. But the scheme is facing mounting accusations that it is a waste of money, and is doing less to help rural Africans than it claims.

According to the project’s documents, the business plan reveals ‘total direct costs’ are expected to be £17.2 million and that the goal is ‘substantial poverty reduction’ for up to 2,250 households.

This means spending more than an astonishing £7,500 per household. To put this in perspective, this is 34 times the average annual income of households in the region.

The British Government — desperate to find ways to spend its soaring aid budgets — is handing over £11.5 million to this vainglorious venture.

Despite the austerity weighing on British families at home, spending on foreign aid — currently £8.8 billion a year — is rising by more than one-third under the Coalition.

Indeed, last Sunday International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell insisted they will enshrine in law the target of giving 0.7 per cent of our national income to global aid.

In this savannah region of Ghana, life is undoubtedly a struggle and many seemed delighted by such generosity from Britain.

‘We do not know why they have chosen us, but we are very lucky,’ said Babu Yakubu, a 30-year-old farmer with two wives and four children.

In Nabari, another village also set to be deluged with our aid, people were amazed to hear foreigners were spending so much on them.

‘We are poor people,’ said Sule Mantable, 38, a father of four. ‘These are huge amounts of money.’
But like others, he is sceptical it will change their lives. ‘It sounds a good idea but we don’t believe it will work,’ he said.

‘We have heard before all these promises of money for electricity, schools, hospitals and roads. Nothing ever happened.

‘Even if the money does flow from your country, it will end up in the pockets of corrupt people and politicians. We will not see any spent on our infrastructure or in our pockets.’

Meanwhile, in another part of our shrinking world, the white man’s burden takes on a different form.

Man, 24, stabbed to death and two others injured in large fight at Westfield Stratford shopping centre near Olympic site, (as black gangs clash)

The 24-year-old victim, who is yet to be named, was knifed yesterday

Scotland Yard said two other males suffered minor injuries during the attack, which happened in a busy area of the shopping centre called The Street

Five men, aged between 20 and 23, have been arrested in connection with the death and are being held in custody

By SUZANNAH HILLS and JILL REILLY

Detectives were today questioning five suspects in connection with the murder of a man who was stabbed at a busy shopping centre just yards from the Olympic Park.

The 24-year-old victim, who is yet to be named, was knifed after a fight broke out between a large group of males at Westfield in Stratford, east London, yesterday afternoon.

A force spokesman said: ‘Police were called at 4.24pm on Friday June 29 to reports of a fight involving a large group of males in The Street on the ground floor of Westfield, Stratford.

Interesting that the Daily Mail provides no further written information while their hard copy reports a large number of gang members armed with knives, ran through stores in a running battle. One man was being chased, chairs and a glass case were thrown and employees of one store locked themselves and customers inside until the police arrived.
The violence continued at a nearby subway station.

The billion dollar shopping center with more then 300 stores from Primark to Prada, has been the battleground for rival black gangs.

And everyday, more of their kind reproduce or immigrate along with other undesirables.

H/T Islam versus Europe, whose motto is; Where Islam spreads, freedom dies

Haven’t visited this site in a month or more.  Don’t know if this is getting any space in the USA what with news of the latest quake in Italy. As if those folks don’t have enough on their plate, here come the muzzies as usual to muck things up some more.
Shouldn’t surprise anyone and I’m sure it doesn’t. Anyway, here’s the latest thing they took offense at.

Italy: Muslims Riot Over Bowl of Pasta Bolognese

Posted by Cheradenine Zakalwe

Sometimes, when surveying the bizarre malignancy of Islam, you come across stories that almost defy belief. You triple-check them just to make sure it isn’t some kind of mistake: a translation error or a less than scrupulous “Islamophobe”. Here’s one.

Recently, northern Italy has been rocked by earthquakes. Temporary camps have been set up to offer shelter to people in the affected area. Naturally, as happened in Spain last year, immigrants and wastrels, people who might have no fixed abode even in ordinary circumstances, descend on these camps to grab whatever they can get. There have been several complaints that the immigrants are receiving privileged admission to and treatment in the camps compared to native Italians. What’s clear is that the Muslims, in particular, have an extraordinary sense of entitlement.

Last week Vodafone turned up to offer free phone cards. The Muslims started fighting over them. One pulled a knife and stabbed another Muslim. On Saturday, a riot broke out when a Muslim girl was served a pasta dish containing bolognese sauce. Apparently it was supposed to have been tuna but an innocent mistake had been made. She started screaming. Soon her family turned up and accused the camp administrators of deliberately insulting Islam! How they get to this conclusion from bolognese sauce I’m not sure about. I can only surmise that they were complaining about it because it is a meat sauce and the meat may not have been halal! A riot broke out and civil protection forces had to intervene to restore order.

According to a local newspaper, “the behaviour of the North Africans is getting on the nerves of many of the other disaster victims”.

WHERE ISLAM SPREADS, FREEDOM DIES

Something with not so great translation from the French but you soon get the picture. This is in relation to the African vermin in Italy and the quake.

BOLOGNA (Novopress) - Violence, Islam, contagious diseases ... a concentrate of all the problems of multicultural society: that is what the foreign preferably created in a few days in the camps for victims of Emilia- Romagna (the region of Bologna), after the earthquake that devastated the north-eastern Italy.

It has also been disinfected twice a tent that was filled with North African scabies. After the second disinfection operation, performed by a special team of technicians arrived in Venice, the tent should be destroyed by the municipality of San Felice: neither the Venetians nor Tridentine are indeed willing to take it again. The Maghreb mangy were sent to hospital.

On The Edge Of A Milestone African-American Achievement

Dragons In Space

image

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — The privately bankrolled Dragon capsule approached the International Space Station for a historic docking Friday after sailing through a practice rendezvous the day before.

The unmanned SpaceX Dragon was on track most of the morning to deliver a half-ton of supplies and become the first commercial vessel to visit the space station. But as the capsule drew within 100 feet, flight controllers commanded it to retreat.

The capsule backed off to 230 feet as the SpaceX company worked to resolve a problem with the on-board tracking sensors. Stray reflections from the Japanese part of the space station were interfering with the Dragon’s laser-based sensors, officials said. SpaceX mission controllers quickly fixed the trouble and resumed the docking operation.

On Thursday, the capsule came within 1½ miles of the space station in a practice fly-by. It returned to the neighborhood early Friday so Kuipers and U.S. astronaut Donald Pettit could capture it with a robot arm. First, the capsule went through a series of stop-and-go demonstrations to prove it was under good operating control.

NASA ordered extra checks of the Dragon’s imagers as the capsule drew ever closer to the space station, putting the entire operation slightly behind schedule. Given that the Dragon is a brand new type of vehicle and this is a test flight, the space agency said it wanted to proceed cautiously.
...
This is the first time a private company has launched a vessel to the space station, an achievement previously reserved for a small, elite group of government agencies.
...
The California-based SpaceX — officially known as Space Exploration Technologies Corp. — is one of several companies vying for the chance to launch Americans from their homeland. That ability ended with NASA’s final shuttle flight last summer. To get to the space station, NASA astronauts must go through Russia, an expensive and embarrassing situation for the U.S. after a half-century of orbital self-sufficiency.

SpaceX’s billionaire maestro, Elon Musk, who helped create PayPal, said he can have astronauts riding his Dragon capsules to orbit in three or four years. His Falcon 9 rockets lift off from Cape Canaveral, Fla.

latest live blogging updates -

FRIDAY MORNING - Final Approach, Dragon Grapple

Around 2:00 AM Pacific/5:00 AM Eastern NASA will decide if Dragon is GO to move into the approach ellipsoid 1.4 kilometers around the space station. If Dragon is GO, after approximately one hour Dragon will move to a location 250 meters directly below the station. Dragon will then perform a series of maneuvers to show systems are operating as expected. If NASA is satisfied with the results of these many tests, Dragon will be allowed to perform the final approach to the space station.

Sometime around 6:00 AM Pacific/9:00 AM Eastern, astronauts on the space station will grapple Dragon with the space station’s robotic arm and the spacecraft will attach to the station.

Bayou Rocketry Blog has been following the Falcon 9/Dragon story since the beginning, and has some of the story of uber-geek Elon Musk:

It was bad SA television that gave Elon Musk part of his mysterious edge. As a 10-year-old he read whole volumes of the Encyclopaedia Britannica after emptying the family bookshelves — anything to avoid another episode of ChiPs or Die Man van Intersek.

Avoiding sports and bullies just as keenly, he sat alone in his boy cave at home in Pretoria, reading Jules Verne and playing Space Invaders. Now, 29 years later, Musk is still playing video games alone into the late hours of the night.

These days it is in a basement man cave in a leased mansion in Bel Air, California, where Musk, who sold his online payment system PayPal for R11bn in 2002, is plotting the future of the human race.

Sixteen months ago, the SA expat accomplished something only ever achieved by the governments of the US, Russia and China. He sent a spacecraft into orbit and then recovered it.

This Monday, he plans to change space flight forever, becoming the first entrepreneur to dock his own orbiter, Dragon, with the International Space Station.

And it literally is his spacecraft. Beyond founding his private SpaceX company in 2002, Musk likes to remind people that he is also the self-taught “chief designer” of the Falcon launch rockets and their Dragon capsules.

CrunchBase provides more info about Musk:

Elon Musk (born June 28,1971) is an entrepreneur and a co-founder of PayPal, Tesla Motors and Space Exploration Technologies. He is chairman/CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, and chairman of SolarCity.

Musk was born and grew up in South Africa, the son of a South African engineer and a Canadian-born mother who has worked as a New York City dietitian and modeled for fun. His father inspired his love of technology and Musk bought his first computer at age 10 and taught himself how to program; by the age of 12 he sold his first commercial software, a space game called Blaster.

He immigrated to Canada in June 1989 at age 17. He left Canada in 1992 after getting a scholarship to study business and physics at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned an undergraduate degree in economics and stayed on another year to finish a second bachelor’s degree in physics. Musk then considered three areas he wanted to get into that were “important problems,” as he said later. “One was the Internet, one was clean energy, and one was space.

In 1995, Musk moved to California to enroll in a graduate program in high energy physics at Stanford, in which he stayed exactly two days before dropping out to start Zip2, which provided online content publishing software for news organizations. In 1999, Compaq’s AltaVista division acquired Zip2 for US$307 million in cash and US$34 million in stock options.

Genius, entrepreneur, billionaire, super geek, Silicon Valley legend, and maybe even the real Iron Man. Perhaps the greatest success story to come out of Africa in the 21st century, if not the 20th as well. A genuine African-American success story, one of almost literally stellar magnitude. You would think he’d be an inspiration to everyone, everywhere, and a real hero within the community.

Oh. OH. Um, never mind.

UPDATE: GOTCHA!

Earlier this morning, the SpaceX Dragon capsule was successfully captured by the International Space Station Expedition 31 crew, making SpaceX the first commercial company to send a spacecraft to the ISS. The station’s robotic arm captured the Dragon at 9:56 a.m. ET after a journey that took three days, six hours, 11 minutes, and 23 seconds.

Dragon was later securely bolted to the Harmony module of the ISS at 12:02 p.m. ET.

Michael Suffredini, manager of the ISS program office, said he has talked many times about historic events and “this rates right at the top.”

“Having a contractor, relatively independent of NASA, design on its own a spacecraft that [they] tested and flew ... has been remarkable,” Suffredini said. “The spacecraft performed nearly flawlessly.”

Holly Ridings, NASA’s lead flight director for the SpaceX demo flight, added that it was a “really great day in space.”

Every Day, The World Gets Better And Better

Part 1

The Flying Toilets of Nairobi

In Kenya, everybody gives a crap. It usually comes wrapped in a plastic bag.

In the slums of the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, visiting the bathroom usually means one of two things; a trip to the local pit latrine or the ‘flying toilet’.

The former entails letting nature take its course in a rickety outhouse perched atop a hole in the ground—a facility also used by hundreds of other people in the neighborhood.

The latter meanwhile consists of relieving oneself in a plastic bag before throwing the offending item away in the street.

A 2011 report by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation found that these arrangements led to environmental contamination and the spread of diseases such as typhoid and tuberculosis.

But within this primitive sewage system recent MIT graduate, David Auerbach, has spied an opportunity he believes could one day be worth millions of dollars.

Alongside a group of fellow MIT alumni and local Kenyan partners, Auerbach has helped found Sanergy—a start-up that aims to make a business out of cleaning up Nairobi’s sanitary mess.

So the plan is to install several porta-potties around the city (tens of thousands of them I hope!) and then charge the locals a nickel to have a clean and warm place to take a poop. Franchises get sold for $500/yr, and the human waste gets turned into organic fertilizer that gets put on their crops. How can a plan like this lose? It has to be the ultimate grassroots recycling effort, and I’m not taking the piss [note to Americans: that’s an English phrase that means “pulling your leg” or making fun of something].

“Currently we have 25 facilities up and running… we’re collecting about three metric tons of waste per week which can all be converted into fertilizer,” says Auerbach.

“By the end of this year we want to have 250 franchises. We think by the end of the following year we can safely be at 1,000 toilets,” he adds.

Creating employment opportunities for local residents can also be a benefit of the project and important to its greater success.

By the end of 2013 Auerbach says Sanergy plans to collect enough waste to power a bio-generator that can sell electricity back into the Kenyan national grid.

“The waste of 100,000 people generates about 1 gigawatt of power. So right now when we have 1,200 users every day we’re not at a point where we can produce sufficient amounts of electricity,” says Auerbach.

“This is something we’ll be looking to do later this year or next year,” he adds. “But we’re not quite there yet.”

So I deduce that one $500 franchise gets you one outhouse, and all the shit you can schlep, which right now averages 48 users a day per Johnny ... which is probably about 10 gallons worth. 265lb worth per week. Which earns the owner/operator/door guardian/night soil carter $2.88. Assuming nobody vandalizes the loo, that’s a net profit of $551.20 per year once the franchise fee is deducted (and further assumes the “collection facility” cost the franchise owner nothing, and that it’s supplies - toilet paper, fresh water, sanitizer, cleaning solution and tools - also cost nothing), which works out to $1.51 per day if the business is open 365 days a year. Which is far below even the “$2 a day” number that the UN and all the World Aid folks always talk about as the lowest living wage in even the worst corners of the world. In other words, it’s a shit job right now. That fertilizer/compost/bio-generator end of the scheme had better pay off pretty well, and soon. Otherwise the monkeys will go back to flinging pooh the locals will have no choice but to revert to using plastic bags and giving them the toss.

One wonders if there is a better way to solve this problem, or to avoid it entirely ...

Part 2

LA Bans Plastic Bags

There ya go! Problem? Solution!

Los Angeles became the largest city in the nation Wednesday to approve a ban on plastic bags at supermarket checkout lines, handing a major victory to clean-water advocates who sought to reduce the amount of trash clogging landfills, the region’s waterways and the ocean.

Egged on by actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus and an array of environmental groups, the City Council voted 13 to 1 to phase out plastic bags over the next 12 months at an estimated 7,500 stores. Councilman Bernard Parks cast the lone no vote.

“Let’s get the message to Sacramento that it’s time to go statewide,” said Councilman Ed Reyes, who has focused on efforts to revitalize the Los Angeles River.

Council members quietly backed away from a more controversial plan to also ban use of paper grocery bags, which was first proposed by appointees of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Wednesday’s vote kicks off a four-month environmental review of the bag ban, followed by passage of an ordinance putting it into effect. Larger stores would then have six months to phase out plastic bags and smaller markets a 12-month phase-out period. For paper bags, retailers would be required to charge 10 cents per bag starting one year after the plastic bag is enacted.

Councilman Paul Koretz, who pushed for the ban, said city officials would conduct a study in two years to determine whether the prohibition should be expanded to include paper. “My hope is that so few paper bags will be used as a result of this measure that the formal ban … on paper bags may not even be necessary,” he said.

The plan drew strong praise from environmental activists, who had long argued that L.A. needed to follow in the footsteps of San Jose, San Francisco and Long Beach and dozens of other municipalities.

PS - the power generation idea is nice, but it will only ever be a minor adjunct to the power grid at best. If a typical Kenyan home uses only 1/2 the power of a typical American home(14.4K Wh), that theoretical gigawatt could power about 138,000 homes, which implies that the typical daily waste of two humans can be converted to fully supply the electricity to power an American home. If that is the case, why isn’t there a power generator over every sewage treatment plant in the country? I think these guys are dreaming. Unless they actually meant 1 gW per year, in which case we’re talking about power for a mere 190 American homes ... which is the top 1/5 of the top 1% of those 100,000 “users” ... which implies that the urban poor in Kenya would be squeezed even for their bodily wastes to support the rich elites ... who would literally be at the top of the heap. Occupy Outhouses Now!! Stop The Madness!!!

Al Qaeda Takes Over Mali

AQ Rebels Take Northern Mali, Impose Instant Sharia

Mali, West Africa. A landlocked mostly desert nation about 2/3 the size of Texas. Shaped like a reversed L, looking like a baby buggy going to the left. Northern Mali is mostly empty sand, with few people and fewer towns. One of these is the fabled city of Timbuktu, a small place where many homes and mosques are built of mud, yet the buildings are more than 1,000 years old. It’s a walled city a mile and a half long and a mile wide, home to 50,000, located near the only sources of open water in the region. Once upon a time it was a trading nexus, the place where the caravan trails crossed.  No more. Now Timbuktu and most of the north has fallen to Toureg rebels, nomadic mercenaries who fought for Ghadaffi in Libya, then looted his armories at the end and headed south. Looks like they caught a big dose of Jihad Fever when they were there.

Islamists impose sharia in Mali’s Timbuktu

Mali’s crisis deepened Wednesday, as officials in the fabled northern city of Timbuktu confirmed that the Islamic rebel faction that seized control of the town over the weekend has announced it will impose sharia law.

Rebels in the country’s distant north have taken advantage of the power vacuum created last month when renegade soldiers in the capital of Bamako overthrew the nation’s democratically elected leader. In the chaos that followed the March 21 coup, they advanced on strategic towns in the north, including the ancient city of Timbuktu, located over 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) from the capital.

The ethnic Tuareg rebels included a secular faction fighting for independence, and an Islamic wing, Ansar Dine, whose reclusive leader called a meeting of all the imams in the city on Tuesday to make his announcement.

“He had the meeting to make his message to the people known, that sharia law is now going to be applied,” said the Mayor of Timbuktu Ousmane Halle, who was reached by telephone. “When there is a strongman in front of you, you listen to him. You can’t react,” he said, when asked what the reaction was of the imams of a historic town known for its religious pluralism and its moderate interpretation of Islam.

“Things are going to heat up here. Our women are not going to wear the veil just like that,” said the mayor.

Don’t bet on it. They’ll veil up soon enough when the rapes and beheadings begin.

The rebels launched their insurgency in January, saying they wanted to establish an independent Tuareg homeland in the north, known as the Azawad. They only succeeded in taking small towns until March 21, when disgruntled soldiers stormed the presidential palace in the distant capital of Bamako, overthrowing the democratically elected president.

In the confusion that followed the coup, the rebels launched a new offensive and succeeded in taking the capitals of the three main northern provinces, including Kidal, which fell last Friday, Gao on Saturday and Timbuktu on Sunday.

“The NMLA has reached the end of its military operations for the liberation of the territory of the Azawad,” said Assarid, speaking by telephone from Paris.

“Since the day before yesterday when our units reached Douentza which we consider to be the frontier of the Azawad,” he said, referring to a town some 375 miles from Bamako, “the military offensive is declared over.”

Assarid’s group is the largest rebel group involved in the offensive, but it is not the only one, and in the three main towns in the north, local officials say they cannot be sure which of the rebel armies has the upper hand. Western observers have expressed concern over the presence of an Islamist faction called Ansar Dine, which planted its ominous black flag in all three of the provincial capitals. This week, the group announced it was imposing Sharia law in the ancient city of Timbuktu.

The mayor of Timbuktu said nearly all of the estimated 300 Christians based in the city fled after Ansar Dine’s spiritual chief Iyad Ag Ghali gave an interview on local radio outlining the tenets of Sharia law: Women are to be covered at all times, thieves will have their hands cut off and adulterers will be stoned.

On Thursday, the Ansar Dine faction attacked the Algerian consulate in Gao and took hostage its employees, including the consul, according to an Algerian diplomat in Bamako who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak the press. It was unclear why the faction had attacked the consulate, though Algeria has aggressively fought Islamic extremists on its own soil, including AQIM, which has its roots in Algeria.

In Abidjan, where the military chiefs were meeting, the head of Ivory Coast’s army said that the possible link between the rebels and terrorism is reason enough for a possible military intervention.

“The advance of the National Liberation Movement of Azawad, associated with terrorist groups like AQIM and Ansar Dine and others, gives sufficient reason to the entire region to be put on notice,” said Gen. Soumaila Bakayoko.

I would be quite amazed if any West African coalition, aided by French logistical support, moves into Mali to push back the rebels.

Meanwhile, 2 of those 300 Christians who got out tell their story to the UK press:

Mrs. English’s Wild Ride [ apologies to Mr. Toad ]

A British couple have made a dramatic escape from Timbuktu after the town fell to al-Qaeda backed fighters following the military coup in Mali, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Neil Whitehead and Diane English fled across an 850-mile expanse of desert with the help of nomadic militiamen and African soldiers to reach Nouakchott, the capital of neighbouring Mauritania. They are now hoping to take sanctuary in the city’s French embassy.

The couple, who owned and ran a budget hotel in Timbuktu, were caught up in the fighting as the Malian army fled and Islamic extremists took control of the city following a coup that overthrew the country’s government.

They decided to make their perilous escape after learning that al-Qaeda had put a price on their heads.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph after reaching Noukachott, Mrs English said: “Its been a very long journey with barely any sleep. We’ve moved across the desert in three old army trucks but we are very lucky to get out and very grateful to those that helped us.

“We are tired and desperately need a shower but we have our dog with us and we hope our truck with all our possessions is going to follow us soon.”

Reports from Timbuktu said al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and local hardline clerics of the Ansar al-Dine movement had imposed strick Islamic law on the town. The black flag of al-Qaeda was flying on the turrets of its ancient mosques and women had been ordered to wear burkas outdoors.

“My friends say they have been ordered to stop smoking and the women have been told to cover up,” Mrs English said. “I don’t think we’ll be going back anytime soon.”

Good for them for finally getting out. And for taking their dog.

Last week:

The Tuareg force planted its flag in the ancient city, a day after it took control of the garrison town of Gao, which hosts the largest military base in Mali’s north. The Azawad National Liberation Movement (MNLA) has capitalised on the lack of national authority after a coup last month when Mali army officers ousted the president, Amadou Toure.
...
On Friday, the rebels took Kidal, the regional capital. If Timbuktu falls, they rebels will control most of Mali’s Sahara desert region.

They have vowed to rule the area with Islamists in opposition to the junta in Bamako, the national capital. The city of Timbuktu, famous for its mud-walled mosques, is more than 1,000 years old and was the main trading centre for Tuareg nomads bringing salt from the desert, and selling ivory and slaves. Once a centre of learning, the town, with 50,000 people, has become synonymous with mythical places, with a third of Britons even unaware that it is a real place, according to a recent survey.

So there are at least 3 or 4 different groups fighting in Mali. Typical African muddle. Expect Al Q to come out on top. With the loss of Mali, nearly all of northern Africa is in the hands of islamists, from the borders of Nigeria to the Gaza Strip. Caliphate anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Somalia: the jihadi yo-yo

Ethiopian Troops Kick AQ Al-Shabab Out of Baidoa

“Never again” vowed Ethiopia 3 years ago when they kicked out AQ’s UIC 3 years ago, then got branded as the bad guys. Now they’re back, doing it again. No good deed goes unpunished.

The Ethiopian army - along with Somali pro-government troops - has recently captured the key al-Shabab stronghold of Baidoa.

The BBC’s East Africa correspondent Will Ross was one of the first journalists to visit the town since its seizure from the Islamist militants.

The dark red berets of the Ethiopian army are back in Baidoa.

At the airstrip, there was plenty of military might on display: hulking tanks, heavy artillery and dozens of alert troops.

We are told Somali pro-government soldiers were backed by the Ethiopians as they seized the town from al-Shabab but it is clear who is the dominant partner in this relationship.

Inside Baidoa’s presidential palace there are signs of the just departed Islamist militants. The walls of this battered, squalid building are covered in jihadist graffiti - mostly images of guns apparently drawn by very young al-Shabab recruits.

“They preach to them, so these kids think only about jihad,” says Ethiopian army Capt Mahammud Yissak.

“We saw very small guys between eight and 12. They had been in the al-Shabab training camps. They ran away and we welcomed them. Some of them were used as couriers to plant explosives.”

There you have it: the brave jihadis in Al-shitskabab filled their ranks with children. Little kids.

The militants put up little resistance when the tanks and troops closed in on the town but since then al-Shabab has promised blood in Baidoa.

It is extraordinary to think that just over three years ago Somalis were cheering on the streets as the Ethiopian army made its very public withdrawal from the country.

That incursion ousted the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC), which controlled much of the country.

But the Ethiopian presence became so unpopular - partly as a result of the shelling of civilian areas of the capital, Mogadishu - that it then helped trigger the rise of the more radical al-Shabab.

“Never again” was Ethiopia’s view on another major military incursion in Somalia, but - with al-Shabab threatening the stability of the entire region - it felt forced to act.

And in a month I’m sure they’ll be the bad guys once again. Save the neighbors from the crazies, bring war down upon the fanatics, but as soon as you do it’s “hey, who blew up my mud hut? Oppressors, kick them out of our country!!”

boy killed by sister and friend cos he was a witch.  the stone age ppl among us.

About to shut this thing down when this flew across my screen.
They’re among us.  Vermin.

Just another normal day in the lives of these stone age Negroes who settle in civilized western countries.
They come from the bush and should be returned there.  It’s their natural habitat.

This is pretty gruesome but it’s just another example of the sorts being allowed into the UK and France. And for that matter, all over Europe.
But I guess that’s raaaaaacist. Yeah. So?

Mr Altman told jurors that the couple were believers in ‘kindoki’ - a form of witchcraft that pervades almost all sections of their native Congolese society.
He said: ‘Kindoki usually denotes a negative, malicious force, by which people in conjunction with the spirits, or by spirits alone, deliberately inflict harm.
‘Kindoki pervades Congolese life, from high to low, rich to poor, and a believe in kindoki is not inconsistent with Christianity, because in the Congo it is practised in the churches with active support of the pastors.

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
A teenager accused of witchcraft was tortured to death by his sister and her partner in ‘a tale of horror’ on Christmas Day, the Old Bailey heard.
Eric Bikubi, 27, and Magalie Bamu, 28, attacked Kristy Bamu, 15, and his two sisters with pliers, knives and a hammer after accusing them of being ‘sorcerers’, it is claimed.
Kristy was in such pain after days of being attacked with sticks, a metal bar, hammer and chisel that he begged to die, jurors heard.
The teenage boy had suffered 101 injuries - his face and head were covered in cuts and some of his teeth were missing when he was found in the blood-soaked flat.

they’re called protesters because we can’t use the proper term for them too boldly.

H/T LyndonB for the link.

Don’t know how I missed this one but it needs sharing here as opposed to the comments section, even though it’s a week out of date. But the date doesn’t matter. The story does.

What the hell, it’s all part of ‘diversity’ and ‘multi-culture’ and everything else that belongs to leftist mumbo jumbo.
So a group of foreign darkies, notice I have avoided calling them what they really are, want to protest something they think is wrong in their own damn turd world country. Do they go there to improve things?  Of course not.  They come to the oh so fuckin liberal west and spread their poison here where in addition to human rights they can have benefits.  Then attack in the streets, the very culture that’s supporting them and giving them the freedom to do what they do.
They didn’t riot and trash things because something is still rotten in their homeland.  They do this everywhere they are allowed to settle.  And the better culture is expected to welcome them as equals and even as humans.  Which in the end will cause the eventual decay of the superior culture. It will because it always does and time will prove this so again.  White liberals will see to it.  Just another example of the doings of the white man’s burden & curse.

Charity carol concert attacked by Congo protesters

Carol singers raising money for a cancer charity in Trafalgar Square were attacked by protesters during a night of disorder that saw 139 arrests.

By Matthew Holehouse

Shops were attacked, passers-by threatened and car windows smashed during a demonstration in central London against the election result in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The carol concert was raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support. It was organised by a group of friends whose loved ones had been treated for cancer.

Masked teenage boys ‘stormed’ the singers, throwing bottles of water and hot drinks into the crowd.

A woman in her 40s, said to be undergoing treatment for breast cancer, was pulled to the ground.

A youth attempted to set light to the Christmas tree, an annual gift from the city of Oslo since 1947, one witness said.

“They were determined not to let us sing and have fun and utterly ruined the atmosphere. Have your protest and make your point, but why did you have to ruin a lovely occasion with your scuminess,” Mark Horton, a conductor of the choir, wrote in a message online. The concert was cut short amid safety concerns.

The attack was ‘egged on’ by teenage girls who screamed and shouted “like the possessed”, another witness said.

Other arrests were made for assaulting police officers, obstructing police and blocking a public highway. Police held demonstrators inside double decker busses before ferrying them to custody.

The demonstration began as an agreed ‘static’ protest in Whitehall on Saturday evening against the re-election of President Joseph Kabila, which international observers say “lacks credibility”.

The vast central African country has immense mineral wealth but has been ravaged by civil war, corruption and economic mismanagement. Protestors accuse Western governments of propping up the regime.

On Thursday a group of 200 Congo demonstrators forced the evacuation of Oxford Circus tube station, central London, after they set off a passenger alarm on an underground train.

It has nothing at all to do with an election in their home country.  It has to do with genes and and a natural proclivity toward criminality and enjoying their natural racial pastime, which is described in this article. Any old excuse to riot will do.

Must … Resist … Temptation

Chinese female condoms too small for South Africans

JOHANNESBURG — A South African court has blocked the government from buying 11 million female condoms from China, saying they are too small, a newspaper reported Friday.

The finance ministry had awarded a contract to a firm called Siqamba Medical, which planned to buy the Phoenurse condoms from China, the Beeld newspaper said.

A rival firm, Sekunjalo Investments Corporation, turned to the High Court in Pretoria after losing the bid, arguing that their condoms were 20 percent larger than the Chinese ones.

Judge Sulet Potterill blocked the deal with Siqamba, ruling that the female condoms were too small, made from the wrong material, and were not approved by the World Health Organisation, the paper said.

South Africa has more HIV infections than any country in the world, with 5.38 million of its 50 million people carrying the virus.

What, Again???

Drought and Famine in Africa!

Millions Starving!!

Western Aid blocked by Islamist Warlords!!!

yawn.

Food aid for Somalia could be flown into country within a week

The international effort to bring humanitarian relief to 3.7 million Somalis who need urgent help to beat drought and famine is being hampered by al-Shabaab’s refusal to let most agencies into their territory.

The al-Qaeda-inspired insurgents backtracked on an earlier promise to allow access.

But the United Nations said it was planning to fly food into areas held by the Islamists despite the ban.

“There are 2.2 million people yet to be reached,” said Josette Sheeran, the head of the agency.

“It is the most dangerous environment we are working in in the world. But people are dying. It’s not about politics, it’s about saving lives now.”

Jane, you ignorant slut. It’s always about politics, first, last and forever. It’s not about saving lives at all, and never was. The warlords will take your food, feed themselves, then steal the rest and sell it for weapons the instant you turn your back, while starving their opposition. That story hasn’t changed in Africa in 60 years or more.

WFP was one of the many organisations that al-Shabaab effectively forced out last year after imposing strict conditions of operation including no foreign female staff.

The group also taxed aid convoys.

Regis Chapman, the head of WFP’s operations in Somalia, said that food deliveries would soon start into the limited parts of Mogadishu controlled by the internationally-backed government.

He added that “within a week to 10 days” WFP would be sending food into areas controlled by the Islamists.

The Red Cross on Sunday said that it had delivered 400 tonnes of food to 24,000 people in Gedo province, the first time it had taken supplies into al-Shabaab’s territory since 2009. More than 2 million Somalis in the worst affected areas, including two famine zones, live in al-Shabaab territory and cannot be reached by international aid.

They are among more than 11.5 million people in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia who need urgent help to keep them from starving after at least two years with no rain.

Stop wasting your money. Let them all starve. It won’t make any difference even in the short run. There are always tens of millions starving in Africa. Or suffering from some dread disease. Or being cleansed ethnically. Or being molested by flamingos. Whatever. It’s what Africa does, because Africa is actually Hell. It’s their job.

You can’t feed the people because the other people are such heartless malicious bastards that they use starvation as a political and military tool. They always have, and they always will. Stop wasting your money. Wait. This is the UN we’re talking about. So it’s MY money they’re wasting. Stop even faster in that case.

Maybe they should petition those Somali pirates in their own midst to use some of those hundreds of millions in ransom money to, you know, BUY some food for once.

handouts for africa do not help

And speaking of Africa and aid to that place. Here’s an interesting note and it even compliments Wardmom’s comments on a previous post.

Call me Dave (Cameron), the Brit PM wants to increase foreign aid not just to the cause of the “Arab Spring” but more for Africa and poor countries.
How nice when one can be generous with other peoples money.  But then, that’s what politicians do.
But this caught my eye, and how could it not?  “Handouts are making Africa a spoilt child.” Well, well. What’s this?

Mandela aide: Lavish handouts are making Africa the ‘spoilt child of the planet’

By JASON GROVES

Lavish aid to Africa is turning the continent into a ‘spoilt child’, according to the head of a charity backed by Nelson Mandela.

Mike Kendrick, founder of the respected Mineseeker Foundation, warned that aid often increased the hardship faced by the world’s poorest people.

In a devastating verdict, he told the Daily Mail last night: ‘I sometimes use the analogy of a spoilt child. We have all seen rich parents give their child everything they need, without earning it.

‘Africa is a spoilt child of the planet. It is not their fault. It is ours.

‘It is completely pointless and totally detrimental to spend endless billions on projects that are well intentioned but badly thought out and poorly implemented.

‘The current government is apparently determined to repeat the mistakes of the former one.’

Mr Kendrick decided to speak out as David Cameron defended of his controversial pledge to increase spending on international aid by 34 per cent while cutting budgets at home.

He is now seeking a meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss his experiences of the impact of aid on developing countries.

The Mineseeker Foundation was established ten years ago with the backing of Sir Richard Branson to help the victims of landmines in former conflict zones, including many parts of Africa.

Mr Kendrick said he had witnessed the failure of international aid at first hand and his views were ‘shared’ by Mr Mandela.

He said that as well as making people dependent on handouts, aid money often undercut local businesses and initiatives.

‘International financial aid, unless specifically targeted toward practical and ongoing projects, is of little use and should be stopped immediately to prevent yet more suffering,’ he added.

‘We need to change lives permanently, not just whilst funds last, and develop sustainable sturdy economies that will transform lives on a long-term basis.

‘The problem is that aid, when badly directed, actually kills people and this is a matter of fact – not opinion. In the past few decades the West has provided several trillion dollars in aid, yet the average African is now twice as poor as he was before all that started.’

Mr Kendrick said that even well-meaning initiatives, such as Gordon Brown’s project to supply £100million of mosquito nets to Africa, could have damaging unintended consequences.

‘I doubt he realised that in doing so he was committing many hundreds of people into a poverty trap that would possibly reduce them to starvation.

‘Making and repairing mosquito nets is one of the few remaining cottage industries in Africa and by dumping millions of dollars worth of nets in various areas it simply shut all of those local businesses down.’

Mr Kendrick is pioneering a series of ‘aid-free zones’ in Mozambique to attract investors to directly support local businesses. The first project, to create a major coconut plantation, could eventually sustain 50,000 people and is being set up without a penny of aid.

Mr Kendrick said similar projects could transform Africa in the long term, while aid would never be more than a quick fix.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
