Political candidate pledges to speak about the issues to any group. He does. At a white supremicist birthday party for Adolf Hitler. Oy vez.

CROWN POINT, Ind. - If fans of Hitler held a party, and a candidate for federal office attended, would anybody notice?

Apparently, yes.

U.S. Congressional candidate Tony Zirkle is facing criticism from one of his primary opponents, and a host of people on the Internet, for speaking at an event over the weekend that celebrated Adolf Hitler’s birthday.

Zirkle confirmed to The News-Dispatch on Monday he spoke Sunday in Chicago at a meeting of the Nationalist Socialist Workers Party, whose symbol is a swastika.

When asked if he was a Nazi or sympathized with Nazis or white supremacists, Zirkle replied he didn’t know enough about the group to either favor it or oppose it.

There’s your problem right there Zirky. Sure, go ahead and speak to them, but then use RULE #1: Cover thy ass. Disown these people ASAP. You blew it. Then you blew RULE #2: Never prove to the public how stupid you are. You don’t know if you favor Nazis or not? D’oh!!

“This is just a great opportunity for me to witness,” he said, referring to his message and his Christian belief.

Great, now he’s broken RULE #3: Don’t be excessively religious. Sorry Z-man. I know you thought you were doing the right thing. But going around Witnessing to a bunch of Nazis? Not even Bill Clinton has that much Teflon. The stink is gonna stick.

He also told WIMS radio in Michigan City that he didn’t believe the event he attended included people necessarily of the Nazi mindset, pointing out the name isn’t Nazi, but Nationalist Socialist Workers Party.

Holy Smurfblasters. He just broke RULE #2 AGAIN!!

Zirkle has made doing away with pornography and prostitution his top campaign plank.

“I told (Channel 16, WNDU in South Bend) in the beginning that I’d speak to any group that wanted me to speak,” Zirkle said Monday. He said he’s also recently spoken on the subject to a pair of black journalists.

When asked if meeting with Nazis was a danger to his political career, Zirkle said he was willing to take the chance.  “That’s the risk you have to take to get your point across,” Zirkle said. “If the Black Panthers or the Jewish Zionists want me to speak about these issues, I’ll do it.”

Ok, I’ll give him 2 votes for honesty and 2 more for keeping his word. That makes 4, and I think that’s about the all the votes the guy is going to get. And yes, he’s a Republican.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
