Beyond Repair?

Via Kim, we find this heartwarming story of a guy who had his wheel gun stolen by a “friend”.

About 11 years ago, in 1996, I saw a friend of mine that I had went to High School with, at a mutual friends get together/BBQ. We hit it off, catching up and hung out quite a bit the days following. He was down on his luck, so I offered for him to stay with me for a bit, until he got back on his feet. Two weeks later, he’s gone, along with some cash and my .38 Rossi revolver, which I kept in my safe at the time. You see, I had a bad habit of not always turning the dial all the way to lock the safe fully. I quickly filed a police report, and that was the last time I saw this “friend”.

The gun:

The gun was given to me by my father a couple days after I moved out of the house. I get a call from him, and tells me he’s coming by. I’m the baby of 5 kids, so obviously my dad always looked especially close after me, some would say I was his favorite. He constantly called me to make sure I had enough food to eat, needed anything for my place, had enough money, etc.

Anyhow, when he gets there, I can tell he’s all business. I can still vividly remember that day as if it was yesterday. He comes inside and sits me down and tells me “You know, you are a man now son. You have to learn to take care of your own self now and your family. No one else will do it for you now.” and then carefully handed me the gun case.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
