Amy Klobuchar Drops Out Of Dem Primaries

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar ended her Democratic presidential campaign on Monday and plans to endorse rival Joe Biden in an effort to unify moderate voters behind the former vice president’s White House bid.

She is flying to Dallas and plans to join Biden at his rally Monday night, according to her campaign.

Klobuchar was the third presidential candidate to drop out of the race in less than 49 hours, following Pete Buttigieg’s departure late Sunday and Tom Steyer’s exit late Saturday. Their decisions reflect an urgent push among moderates to consolidate behind Biden as a counter to progressive rival Bernie Sanders.

Klobuchar outlasted several better-known and better-funded Democrats, thanks to a better-than-expected third-place finish in in New Hampshire. But she couldn’t turn that into success elsewhere, as she struggled to build out a campaign that could compete across the country and had poor showings in the next contests.

You know, this is starting to smell bad. Three candidates quitting just before the Big Vote on Super Tuesday? Kinda smells fishy, don’t it? Why bother to do it now, when in 36 hours they would have known for sure that their campaigns were sunk. Or not. And at least the people - you know, all those citizens the Dems say they care so much about and who’s voices the want heard - at least the people would have made their choices.

But no. Ok, Steyer has tons of money, and two billionaires in the Dem primaries is two too many. But let’s see if Booty-Gig and Klobuchar seem to somehow soon acquire a new dacha or a small tropical island. Do the Bernie Buyout thing, just like in 2016.

Cowards or sell-outs. Or both?

No SCOTUS Bump For Bump Stocks

Supremes Won’t Take Bump Stock Case Until Lower Courts Weigh In

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up a legal challenge to the Trump administration’s regulatory ban on bump stocks, with one of the court’s Trump-appointed justices explaining that the issue needs more time to work through in the lower courts.

The case at hand — Guedes v. ATF — turns heavily on a Supreme Court precedent known as “Chevron deference.” The term was coined after the 1984 Chevron v. NRDC ruling, which provided a framework for when courts should defer to federal agencies’ “reasonable interpretation” of vague laws passed by instead of imposing their own. Conservatives have long taken issue with the precedent, arguing that it gives too much power to the administrative state.

In 2018, the Justice Department announced the new regulation classifying bump stocks as “machine guns” under federal law, despite the fact that they do not change the firing action of a semi-automatic firearm.

In their petition for the Supreme Court to take up the case, the plaintiffs argued that lower courts had incorrectly applied Chevron precedent in upholding the bump stock ban, and should have instead applied a different, less deferential standard for evaluating it.

In an opinion explaining why the Guedes petition was denied, Justice Neil Gorsuch agreed with the idea that the Chevron deference had been incorrectly applied, noting that the administration had even asked the lower court to waive it.

“The executive branch and affected citizens asked the court to do what courts usually do in statutory interpretation disputes: supply its best independent judgment about what the law means,” the justice wrote. “But, instead of deciding the case the old-fashioned way, the court placed an uninvited thumb on the scale in favor of the government.

Gorsuch went on to write that deferring to the government’s interpretation of the law might not be appropriate for other reasons, too.

“The agency used to tell everyone that bump stocks don’t qualify as ‘machine guns.’ Now it says the opposite,” the justice wrote.

“The law hasn’t changed, only an agency’s interpretation of it. And these days it sometimes seems agencies change their statutory interpretations almost as often as elections change administrations,”

“Before deciding whether to weigh in, we would benefit from hearing their considered judgments — provided, of course, that they are not afflicted with the same problems,” Gorsuch concluded. “But waiting should not be mistaken for lack of concern.”

As much as I respect President Trump, I think he was rather knee-jerk in this situation. Sure, I think these are rather silly devices, and that one bad apple doesn’t spoil the whole bunch. But the way to handle this is through level headed legislation ... if you can find some.

Iranians In Bandar Abbas Burn Down Clinic Because COVID Patients From Another Town Were There

Residents in Bandar Abbas in Southern Iran have burned down a hospital as they believed that patients carrying the Coronavirus had been admitted there. 

Rumours started circulating that people from another town infected with Covid-19 had been admitted at the hospital.

However, the hospital’s spokesman said that was a lie and no coronavirus patients were there, according to news channel al-Arabija.

A clinic in the Iranian city of Bandar Abbas was torched on Friday because some people believed that coronavirus patients from another city were quarantined in it, according to Iranian media reports.

Rumors spread that 10 infected people were transported from the city of Qom, the epicenter of the virus in Iran, to Towhid Clinic, according to social media posts.

However, the semi-official Fars News Agency referred to the claims of people being transferred to the southern Bandar Abbas city as “unfounded rumors” and that this information “angered” some residents who then set fire to the clinic.

Meanwhile, Iran seems to feel that hospitals and clinics can be purified with incense. Way to join the 21st Century!!



And if that doesn’t work, in the middle of this outbreak they’re out there licking shrines one after another.

Iran has arrested two individuals who were filmed licking religious shrines in the Shia holy cities of Qom and Mashhad amid the coronavirus outbreak in the country, according to state media.

Videos showing Iranians kissing and licking Shia shrines despite the risks of coronavirus have gone viral online, amid controversy over calls to close access to the shrines as the country continues to suffer from an outbreak of the deadly virus.

As of Monday, 66 in the country had died from the virus and there are 1,501 confirmed cases. A man who was filmed licking the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad was arrested, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Sunday.

Another man who was filmed licking the Fatima Masumeh shrine in Qom has also been arrested, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported on Monday.

The representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Qom had previously urged Iranians to visit the Fatima Masumeh shrine, calling it a “place of healing,” despite the coronavirus outbreak in the city.

UPDATE: Burning Down The Clinic is now the Hong Kong approach too??

Hong Kong police arrested 115 people between Saturday night and Monday morning for several violent incidents over the weekend that included the use of Molotov cocktails to attack designated Chinese coronavirus treatment centers.

In there defense it should be noted that these were the Hong Kong protesters we haven’t heard from in the past couple months, and they were being tear gassed, shot at, and beaten by the cops, often just for assembling.

Typhoid Murphy?

Somebody Test Dem Senator Chris Murphy ASAP !!??!

Even worse than his Logan Act defying behavior with Iran, Senator Murphy may have brought back COVID-19 as a parting gift of the Iranians.  Ouch.

This year’s Munich Security Conference may go down in history as the COVID-19 viral super-spreader “event of the century,” if not in all of recorded history. That’s because the Munich 2020 event took place from February Friday 14-Sunday 16, and Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif attended.

Unknown to apparently all the high security-minded attendees, FM Zarif was likely carrying much more than the dark secret that the COVID-19 virus had already begun rampaging through the highest echelons of the Iranian government and society.  FM Zarif , or one of his minions, was likely carrying the actual COVID-19, and infected who knows how many of the world’s highest and most influential politicians at the Munich event.

In fact, US Senator Chris Murphy, Democrat from Connecticut, not only met FM Zarif, but met him in Zarif’s hotel suite where there was likely a rat’s nest of COVID-19.  Unless drastic steps are taken, Sen. Murphy may become the Typhoid Mary of COVID-19, and infect the entire US Senate and House of Representatives.

Plenty more at the link. Sure, it’s all just conjecture. At this moment in time. Maybe the safest course of action is to have Murphy, along with every member of the House and Senate, along with all their staff and families, self quarantine for 30 days or so. There may be a large cruise ship or two available for that.

Calls Grow To Quarantine Murphy

Following the death of Commander Soleimani Democrat Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) lashed out at President Trump for assassinating the Iranian al-Quds terrorist leader who was responsible for the deaths and maiming of HUNDREDS of US soldiers.

It soon became apparent why Murphy was sooo upset with Soleimani’s death. Senator Murphy has a history of supporting Iran’s mullahs.  Murphy is a routine speaker at the NIAC Council, the regime’s lobby house in the US.

Trita Parsi, the regime’s top activist at NIAC, has praised Senator Murphy for his support of NIAC’s efforts. [ Natioanl Islamic Action Committee or something ]

In February Senator Murphy was caught meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif in a secret meeting in Munich.

Also present were Sen. Menendez, Sen. Van Hollen and John Kerry.

The meeting took place in Zarif’s apartment in Germany, which means that it was likely bugged.

“bugged” being the double entendre, no doubt.

A top adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died of coronavirus on Monday.

Mohammad Mirmohammadi, 71, is among a growing number of government officials to contract the virus. He is the first to die.

Iran has logged more deaths than anywhere outside of China, with 54 confirmed fatalities and 978 infections.

A close adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has died of the coronavirus, as the country continues to record a higher death toll than anywhere outside of China.

Mohammad Mirmohammadi, 71, died in hospital in Tehran on Monday, The Associated Press (AP) reported, citing Iranian state radio. Mirmohammadi had been a member of Khamenei’s Expediency Council since 2017.

As of Monday morning, Iran had confirmed 978 infections and 54 deaths. China, which has reported more than 80,000 cases and 3,048 deaths, sent a delegation of experts to Iran to help fight the outbreak.

The situation in Iran is cause for concern, according to the AP, as more than half of the 1,150 cases confirmed across the Middle East can be traced back to the country.

On Tuesday, Iran’s deputy health minister Iraj Harirchi revealed he had contacted the virus. The day before he was seen sweating and looking unwell at a press conference.

On Thursday, it was reported that one of Iran’s vice presidents, Masoumeh Ebtekar, had contracted the virus. Ebtekar was in a meeting with Rouhani and the Iranian cabinet as recently as Wednesday.

I would not be at all surprised if the average Achmed in the bazaar sees this situation as a holy sign.

Buttigieg Pulls Out Finally Too

Pete Buttigieg, who rose from relative obscurity as an Indiana mayor to a barrier-breaking, top-tier candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, ended his campaign on Sunday.

The decision by the first openly gay candidate to seriously contend for the presidency — and among the youngest ever — came just a day after a leading rival, Joe Biden, scored a resounding victory in South Carolina. That sparked new pressure on the party’s moderate wing to coalesce behind the former vice president.

“The truth is the path has narrowed to a close for our candidacy if not for our cause,” Buttigieg, 38, told supporters in South Bend, Indiana. “We must recognize that at this point in the race, the best way to keep faith with those goals and ideals is to step aside and help bring our party and country together.”

He didn’t endorse any of his former rivals, though he and Biden traded voicemails on Sunday. Buttigieg has spent the past several weeks warning that nominating progressive leader Bernie Sanders to take on President Donald Trump would be risky.

Buttigieg on Sunday called on supporters to ensure that a Democrat wins the White House in November and that the party’s success carries over to down-ballot races for House and Senate. During previous debates, Buttigieg said Sanders could threaten Democratic seats in Congress.

While some say he’s pulling out early, others say he’s packing it in.

I expected this, but I figured he’d at least wait for the results of Super Tuesday. After all, he “won” Iowa, and tied in New Hampshire, right? And he’s still doing way better than Warren, Klobuchar, and Bloomberg. With nearly 2000 delegates to go. So this seems rather cowardly. Funny thing is, he’s still on the ballot in all those states, so who knows what will happen?

Tom Steyer Pulls Out After SC 3rd Place Finish

Billionaire activist Tom Steyer, who poured millions of dollars into his Democratic presidential campaign, is ending his bid after a third-place finish in the South Carolina primary.

Steyer announced Saturday night in Columbia that he was dropping out of the White House race. After spending nearly $24 million on television advertising in the state, he finished behind former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on Saturday. It was Steyer’s best showing in the 2020 race but not enough to keep him in the contest.

“Honestly, I can’t see a path where I can win the presidency,” Steyer said.

Steyer rose to national prominence as a climate change activist and by investing heavily in a campaign to impeach President Donald Trump. His presidential campaign was heavily focused on South Carolina, where he sought to appeal to black voters by decrying yawning inequalities in American life that he said were caused by racism.

After several primaries Steyer had not accumulated any delegates whatsoever.

That makes one more also-ran going home. In two days it will be Super SnoozeDay, and after that hoopla perhaps most of the rest will also fall by the wayside.
