the fleeting nature of performance art

Update to that banana on the wall bit of “art” that sold for $120,000 in Florida: somebody ate it.

The banana was consumed by another artist, perhaps in an act of hunger, or an act of jealousy, or as an even snider mock on the original piece that was mocking the art world. Gee, how ironic.

But never fear, the banana art comes with a certificate of authenticity and instructions for replacing the banana. So the concept is safe. Gosh, what an investment. Last time I checked, organic bananas were 59¢/lb locally. 120 grand could buy you more bananas than your whole neighborhood could eat in a lifetime. And a roll of duct tape is what, about $3.99?

Actor Ryan Reynolds owns Aviation Gin. He just posted a quicky “commercial” titled “No exercise bike included” featuring the actress from that Peloton ad. Looks like she may have put on a needed pound or two. She’s out at the bar with her girlfriends, not looking crazy or frightened, just kind of sad. She hammers down one martini as they console her and toast “to new beginnings”. Girlfriend 2 gives her another martini. In the last 1/8 second of the clip, “Monica“‘s left hand comes up from under the table, and if you’re really sharp you’ll see there’s no ring on her finger.

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) – Page after page, the names stack up: 629 girls and women from across Pakistan who were sold as brides to Chinese men and taken to China. The list, obtained by The Associated Press, was compiled by Pakistani investigators determined to break up trafficking networks exploiting the country´s poor and vulnerable.

The list gives the most concrete figure yet for the number of women caught up in the trafficking schemes since 2018.

But since the time it was put together in June, investigators´ aggressive drive against the networks has largely ground to a halt. Officials with knowledge of the investigations say that is because of pressure from government officials fearful of hurting Pakistan´s lucrative ties to Beijing.

At the same time, the government has sought to curtail investigations, putting “immense pressure” on officials from the Federal Investigation Agency pursuing trafficking networks, said Saleem Iqbal, a Christian activist who has helped parents rescue several young girls from China and prevented others from being sent there.

“Some (FIA officials) were even transferred,” Iqbal said in an interview. “When we talk to Pakistani rulers, they dont pay any attention. ”

What the Hell, they’re only females. Worse, Christians. So who cares?

Might be time to send the Saudis home

NAS Pensacola Shooter, Saudi, Hosted pre-jihad party for all the others earlier this week.

One taped the shooting Friday while others watched. Arrest count started at 3, went to 6, is now 10.

Maybe it’s time to stop training Saudi brats to fly airplanes. Gee, you’d think they learned that lesson after 9/11, right?

The Saudi student who fatally shot three people at a U.S. naval base in Florida hosted a dinner party earlier in the week where he and three others watched videos of mass shootings, a U.S. official told The Associated Press on Saturday.

One of the three students who attended the dinner party videotaped outside the building while the shooting was taking place at Naval Air Station Pensacola on Friday, said the U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity after being briefed by federal authorities. Two other Saudi students watched from a car, the official said.

The official said 10 Saudi students were being held on the base Saturday while several others were unaccounted for.

U.S. officials had previously told the AP they were investigating possible links to terrorism.

The student opened fire in a classroom at the base Friday morning, killing three people.

A U.S. official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Friday identified the shooter as Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani. The official wasn’t authorized to discuss the matter publicly. The official also said the FBI was examining social media posts and investigating whether he acted alone or was connected to any broader group.

The assault, which prompted a massive law enforcement response and base lockdown, ended when a sheriff’s deputy killed the attacker. Eight people were hurt in the attack, including the deputy and a second deputy who was with him.

While President Trump says everything is just peachy with the Saudis, to the rest of us this seems to create a rather uncomfortable diplomatic situation.

Banana Duct Taped To Wall By Maurizio Cattelan Sells For $120,000

Arguably one of the most talked-about works of art at this year’s Art Basel was a banana duct-taped to a wall that sold for $120,000.

It’s Maurizio Cattelan’s latest work of art. It’s called ‘The Comedian’ and it is entertaining art lovers from around the globe.

Some of those same art lovers’ conversations swirled around his 2017 golden toilet. The $6-million throne was stolen from England’s Blenheim Palace over the summer.

Art lover Weezie Chandler said, “You can do anything and once you’re established you can get away with it.”

Many believe this more ‘a-peeling’ piece represents the art world and its gaping wealth inequalities. Others advise not to think that deep.

One art lover said, “It’s mocking the art world. That’s what Maurizio Cattelan does.”

The first two pieces according to ARTnews.com were sold for $120,000, a third is being sold for $150,000.

As you may know by now, the semi-retired artist, whose last major creation was a golden toilet titled America (2016), has now taped a banana to a wall of Perrotin gallery’s booth at Art Basel Miami Beach, the glitzy bazaar that alights in that flood-endangered city every December. It is titled Comedian, and it is priced at $120,000. Three were available, and the first two apparently sold on opening day.

It isn’t even all that original. Another “artist” tacked a banana peel to a bit of drywall in 2008 and called it Installation (banana). No idea how much that glorious bit of genius sold for back then.

Kentucky: Family Court Judge Is A Total Slut

A female judge in Kentucky has been accused of having threesomes in her chambers and allowing employees to get drunk on the job.

Family Court Judge Dawn Gentry allegedly gave attorneys preferential treatment if they appeased her sexual demands and donated to her campaigns for re-election. 

The 38-year-old has now been hit with nine misconduct charges. 

According to an investigation by the Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission, she flirted with attorneys over Snapchat, put pressure on them to sleep with her and, in one case, asked a female attorney to join her in a threesome with her former church pastor turned lover. 

On one occasion, she and the former pastor are said to have had a threesome with her secretary.

Gentry serves as a family court judge for Kenton County which is south of the Kentucky-Ohio state line near Cincinnati.

I’d give this round to Kentucky by at least 5 lengths. While the banana art in Florida just shows how stupid people with way too much money can be, the judge is a corrupt tramp. She was trading hoochie for favorable treatment in the courtroom. And that’s just downright evil.

To be fair, Florida won yesterday’s Loser-ama hands down. Vilmar covered that one. And then there was that news bit on the two super fatties who started a GoFundMe to help them diet, each has to lose at least 200lb before they can get bariatric surgery to carve off even more pounds. So Florida is probably ahead overall this week. But it’s only Saturday afternoon. You never know.

Woo hoo, we won all 3 tonight. 7-0. And we did it against my former teammates. And we did it just above or below our handicap. We got 18 pins from them. We won the first game by 10. We won the second game by 20. We were rather behind in the third game, but we pulled off a strong 10th frame the hard way. Our first newbie flooped through the 10th, putting 9 pins up. Our other newbie did a bit better, putting 17 up, but we were still down 79 pins or something like that. My wife is our 3rd bowler, and with a strike in the 9th, she rolled a 7, made the spare and then threw a 6, putting 36 up. And we were still down, when I faced Dave for the anchor slots. He was on an open and I don’t think he marked. I also had a strike in the 9th, threw a strike in the 10th and then a crappy 6, leaving a split on the 1-2-4-10. So I’d put 42 up already. So we were real close, and I hadn’t looked at the scores. I choked the throw a bit, and made the 1-2-4, but didn’t kick any pins over to the right to get the 10. Arrgh. But when the final score came up, we had won by one pin. ONE pin. So this is the 2nd time we’ve faced them this season, and the 2nd time we took all 7. Neener neener neener. We’ll probably face them once more this season, so my hope is we tromp them then too. Who me, vengeful? Nah. I just love when the guys I’ve bowled with for the better part of a decade just dump me behind my back in the off season. No reason at all I want to bowl them into the mud. Every time. Sweet.

I’m just not into it today. But I did see this one and it made me laugh.

Kaepernick workout leads to job with Redskins

But not the way you might think.

The Washington Redskins were one of the teams that attended Colin Kaepernick’s workout in Georgia last month. Their attendance was hard to explain because signing Kaepernick made no sense for the team.

But now, the Redskins have made a signing based (at least in part) on what they saw during the Kaepernick workout. The Skins signed to their practice squad one of the wide receivers to whom Kaepernick threw passes.

He’s Jordan Veasy, who played his college ball at Berkeley. Veasy was not drafted, but has been a member of the practice squads of four NFL teams. The Redskins will be his fifth.

Ok, maybe it isn’t the standard rich and famous contract, but Veasy got some kind of paying job out of it. And being that close to the Bigs, who knows what could happen with a bit of luck?

Not one team has made any kind of overture to Kunta Kinte Kaepernick. Good.

It’s one thing to steal. It’s another level of deceit altogether when one steals from their own charity to buy a Porsche. Former Pennsylvania Representative Movita Johnson-Harrell has been charged for doing just that and has resigned from her seat as a result. She was the first Muslim female to be elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

She proclaimed her innocence for “some” of the charges against her in her resignation speech yesterday. But Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro was pretty certain he had the right charges, expressing his confidence in a swift and thorough trial. The details of the charges are shocking.

HARRISBURG — State Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell, a West Philadelphia Democrat, said Wednesday that she would resign after prosecutors charged her with stealing more than $500,000 from her own nonprofit and spending it on family vacations, designer clothing, furs, personal bills — and her bid for the legislature.

State Attorney General Josh Shapiro said Johnson-Harrell engaged in “brazen corruption” and systematically tried to cover up her crimes by falsifying records and financial statements.

“Her theft knew no bounds,” Shapiro said as he announced that his office had charged the first-term lawmaker with theft, perjury, tampering with public records, and related crimes Wednesday morning.

Shapiro said Johnson-Harrell would plead guilty to charges and faces jail time. “There will be a guilty plea that will be worked out, and you will see the details of that soon,” he said.

Johnson-Harrell, 53, disputed many of the charges, but said she would resign this month.

“I am saddened and dismayed by the nature of the allegations brought against me today. I vigorously dispute many of these allegations, which generally pertain to before I took office, and I intend to accept responsibility for any actions that were inappropriate,” Johnson-Harrell, who represents the 190th District, said in a statement through her attorney.

The charges against Johnson-Harrell mean she is poised to become the second state lawmaker from the West Philadelphia district to leave office under a cloud of criminal accusations in one year. Johnson-Harrell won the seat in a March special election to replace Vanessa Lowery Brown, who was convicted of bribery and other charges and resigned last December.

So she got the job in March after the previous representative turned out to be a crook. Looks like MJ-H wasted no time grabbing up da money, swiping $500,000 in just 9 months.

Holy shit.

The Democrats have announced they will bring articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, making him just the fourth US president in history to face the move.

Nancy Pelosi, the most senior Democrat in the House of Representatives, announced that after more than two months of an impeachment inquiry the party had decided to table articles.

Ms Pelosi likened Mr Trump to a “king president” as she lent on history to justify the decision, talking about why America’s founding fathers created the power to impeach.

“With confidence and humility, with allegiance to our founders and a heart full of love for America, today I am asking our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment,” Ms Pelosi said.

Debate now turns to which articles of impeachment will be brought against Mr Trump, how many and when they will be voted on.

Even yesterday’s hearings, featuring several “constitutional scholars”, some of whom who seemed quite barmy couldn’t turn this aside. So here we go. This is the biggest Hail Mary play in our nation’s history. Please God, let them fail. Let them fail utterly, and then face public and legal punishment of biblical proportion. If not, then our government is doomed no matter who gets elected, as the other side will do nothing other than to try to get that President fired.

Obamas close on Martha’s Vineyard Estate for 50% off

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama have purchased a nearly 7,000-square-foot home on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts for $11.75 million, according to a report.

The purchase price was recorded Wednesday with the local Registry of Deeds, the Vineyard Gazette reported.

The Obamas paid about half the original asking price for the property when it first became available in 2015, the report said.

The Obamas previously purchased a nine-bedroom house in Washington, paying a reported $8.1 million.

The Obamas have entered some lucrative business deals since leaving the White House.

Michelle Obama received a $65 million advance for her memoir, “Becoming,” while the pair also negotiated a $50 million deal with Netflix to develop programming.

In addition, the former first lady reportedly commands a speaking fee of $225,000. She and her husband are said to have a net worth of $135 million.

She certainly has sold a lot of copies of her book. Total numbers are well over 11 million at this point. It’s hard to say if her book has “earned out” yet with the publisher since her slice of the pie is unknown. However, at $12 a copy for hardcover, and $24 for the eBook, she’d need at least a 30% cut of the gross for that to have happened by now. Typically an author gets 10%. OTOH, her book is still in the Top 50, and will probably spike again as we get deeper into the holiday season.

With the exist of marginally black candidate Kamala Harris, and extremely low polling numbers for marginally black candidate Cory Booker, and problems for possibly POC candidate Julian Castro, Dem pundits are CONVINCED it’s all about white supremacy. Not for a nanosecond do they consider that people just aren’t happy with the message these wannabes are pushing. No, it’s all about race, because at heart, Democrats - the party of slavery, Jim Crow, the KKK, the stranglehold trap of LBJ’s Great Society, and segregation old and new - are in fact racists. So they go right back to eating their own tails, and blaming everyone else.

The sudden exit of Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif, from the 2020 presidential campaign is causing a panic among some within the Democratic Party over the remaining candidates who are participating in the upcoming debate, who are all white.

Despite qualifying for the December debate, Harris announced earlier Tuesday that she was suspending her candidacy amid sinking poll numbers and fundraising.

“In good faith, I can’t tell you, my supporters and volunteers, that I have a path forward if I don’t believe I do,” Harris wrote in an email to supporters. “So, to you my supporters, it is with deep regret—but also with deep gratitude—that I am suspending my campaign today.”

Her departure leaves only six candidates on the debate stage: former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer.

The other candidates of color have yet to meet both requirements set by the DNC to participate in the December debate. The requirements include having at least 200,000 unique donors and reaching four percent in four DNC-approved polls or six percent in two DNC-approved early state polls.

Both tech businessman Andrew Yang and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, have met the donor requirement to qualify for the December debate but have yet to meet the polling requirement as they each only have three polls and have until the December 12 cutoff to earn the fourth.

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., has met the donor requirement but does not have any qualifying polls so far. Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro has not met either requirement and previously failed to qualify in the November debate.

Hey, their party set the rules. Surely there couldn’t be any bias or skullduggery going on inside the great DNC machine? Let’s ask Bernie about that one.

I find the schadenfreude utterly delicious. Sorry lefties, you had your moment in the sun, bamboozling the nation into electing some elitist Marxist clown twice because he was somewhat black, while hypocritically claiming that it wasn’t about race, but branding any criticism of him as racist. And he was a weak, vain, ineffective and lazy president who did his best to ruin the nation. So if you want another minority player, you’d better find one with some content, and not just one who is a character.

Zimbabwe Begs White Farmers To Return As Nation Teeters On Brink Of ‘Manmade Starvation’

Crisis-torn Zimbabwe is on the brink of “manmade starvation” with most households unable to obtain enough food to meet basic standards, a UN envoy has said.

This comes 17 years after Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwean government seized large swathes of land from white farmers in the country, triggering a rapid downturn in the country’s economy.

“The people of Zimbabwe are slowly getting to a point of suffering a manmade starvation,” said Hilal Elver, the UN special rapporteur on the right to food.

“More than 60% of the population of a country once seen as the breadbasket of Africa is now considered food insecure, with most households unable to obtain enough food to meet basic needs due to hyperinflation,” said Elver.

How did the “breadbasket of Africa” reach the point of “manmade starvation“?

News24 reports that Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party launched the controversial land reforms in 2000, forcibly seizing white-owned farms to resettle landless blacks. Mugabe said the reforms were meant to correct colonial land ownership imbalances.

At least 4,000 white commercial farmers were evicted from their farms.

The land seizures were often violent, claiming the lives of several white farmers during clashes with veterans of Zimbabwe’s 1970s liberation struggle.

Critics of the reforms have blamed the programme for low production on the farms as the majority of the beneficiaries lacked the means and skills to work the land.

The Zimbabwean government’s message to exiled white farmers is now clear. Come back to Zimbabwe and save us.

The nation is offering land leases to white commercial farmers in an effort to re-start the nation’s agricultural industry.

Right. After brutally murdering thousands of whites, throwing them off the land their families had farmed for centuries, burning all the barns and destroying the equipment, and letting the country take the required 3 small steps backwards to the stone age, now they’re all starving. Because they don’t have the skills to farm. Let’s see: dirt, pointy stick, seeds, water. Ah, but then you have to do actual, you know, work. Like weeding, and chasing away hungry antelopes, and harvesting. That’s hard! We just want the gibbs, so somebody do it for us. Again. As always. But we won’t kill you this time, we sort of promise!

Population growth rates continue to pose lingering challenges to development efforts on the continent. The population of Africa is expected to roughly double by 2050. This will add 1.2 billion people to Africa’s 2019 population of 1.3 billion people.

What’s driving population growth on the continent, and what can be done to slow the trend, is one of the subjects that will be addressed this week at the 8th African Population Conference in Entebbe in Uganda. A focus of the debate will be the role of behavioural nudges – interventions designed to change people’s behaviour – and incentives in achieving demographic transition in Africa.

The average woman in Africa today has about 4.7 children. This varies significantly from 2.5 in southern Africa to between 5.5 and 5.8 in central and western Africa. The average in other parts of the world is 2.2 or less, with a global average of 2.5 children per woman.

Firstly, women who start childbearing earlier may have less capacity to decide on, or negotiate, their reproductive outcomes. They may also lack opportunities such as formal education, because it competes with childbearing.

Changing social settings can significantly improve the impact of making contraceptives more available in reducing population growth.

The Sensible Solution to Africa’s Overpopulation Problem

People in sub-Saharan Africa have loads and loads of problems, but not when it comes to having babies. As far as generating prosperity, ensuring longevity, and protecting its inhabitants from violence and disease go, sub-Saharan Africa has a horrendous record for which every black person currently alive should feel tremendously painful spasms of shame. But they are the undisputed world champs when it comes to reproduction.

I suggest a two-pronged approach to stop the seemingly inevitable tidal wave of African immigration to the United States. The first prong involves persuading Africans to stay in Africa. The second involves persuading Africans to alter their behavior once they’ve decided to stay in Africa.

As anyone who turns on a TV can tell you, the United States is a deeply racist nation which is structurally designed to oppress, torture, defame, rape, humiliate, extort, beat, maim, disfigure, and outright murder black people in the streets. Once we’ve convinced Africans to stay in Africa, we are ready to enact Stage Two of the plan:  They need to stop having so much sex.

For all that the pundits and so-called “experts” try to blame the astronomical rates of African fecundity on colonialism or capitalism or corrupt African politicians or primitive African religions, the plain truth is that if they weren’t fucking each other so much, they wouldn’t be popping out babies as routinely as they defecate.

Learn a hobby, Africans. Start practicing yoga. Keep a journal. Make lists. Visit a family member you haven’t seen in years. Pray the rosary. Become a YouTuber. I’m certain that when you have no job prospects and all that stands before you is a vast wasteland of sand and buzzards, sexual intercourse must seem like a welcome release.

“It takes a village to raise a child,” goes the African folk saying. But your subcontinent is so economically devastated, it takes a village to afford a child.

We evil white people have invested nearly 350 years in improving Africa. It didn’t do much. The entire world annually sends them vast quantities of money, food, educators, and health workers (who get killed for their efforts all the time). It makes no difference. Ever.

So, here’s my answer: no immigration to anywhere, and the whole world, China included, just let’s Africa alone for about 50 years. Build a metaphorical fence around the whole place. Let them run everything. Sure, sell them whatever (but nothing military), but only accept gold and silver or vast quantities of already mined resources in payment. And we don’t donate a cent, or a shot, or a schoolbook. No more doing the work for them. Sink or swim; they’ve had all this and 5 decades of post-colonial independence to figure things out. Yeah, there won’t be an edible wild animal left within a decade. Oh well. But Africa will either join the world stage on an equal footing, or become an empty wasteland. Enough is enough.

Kamala Harris Drops Out

California Sen. Kamala Harris on Tuesday announced that she is withdrawing from the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, after failing to capitalize on early enthusiasm for her campaign and watching her poll numbers collapse.

There’s a lot more at the link, but really, who cares?

You know that it will wind up being either be Creepy Uncle Joe or Fauxcahontas. I’m betting on her. “Mini Mike” doesn’t stand a chance, no matter how much money he throws at his campaign.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar.
