We’re such softies here. At least temporarily. As if.

We captured another one of our semi-feral kittehs and took her to the vet. Poor little Sniffles seems to have had a cold or the flu or something most of her young life. She’s quite weak, and the other bigger cats push her out of the way so she rarely gets a decent meal. But she is very tame, and has been hanging around the kitchen door for weeks staring at us. So we finally relented.

Vet says it’s an upper respiratory ailment, here’s some antibiotics. Give Sniffles a little squirt with this plastic syringe twice a day until the bottle is empty. That might take 2 weeks or more.

So we took her in. Figured out that she could live in the bathroom for now, away from our other kitteh, little blind Dizzy. Her sister. Right. So we fed her. And she ate 3/4 of a can of cat food at one go. And we got the medicine in her, no problem. And we held her gently and gave her a good washing with a wash cloth. And the bathroom is really nice and warm. It didn’t really take much to get the room ready; just put away our stuff and any cleaning products that might have been out.

Halfway through her bath she found her purr. And she’s been purring madly at us since. Purr purr purr, rub rub rub. This is one little cat that’s been starved for affection. And now she’s clean, dry, warm, well fed, and has a cozy safe place to stay. Happy cat, indeed.

We’ll see if we can feed her enough to put on a pound in three weeks like we did for Dizzy.

Something tells me she won’t be going back out into the cold wild wet any time soon. Ever.

gee what a non-surprise

Former “Two and a Half Men” star Charlie Sheen has the HIV virus.

In an interview Tuesday on NBC’s “Today,” the 50-year-old Sheen said he tested positive for the virus that causes AIDS.

But when asked by “Today” co-host Matt Lauer if he had transmitted the disease to others, he declared, “Impossible. Impossible.”

He said he was diagnosed about four years ago. He said one reason for going public with his condition was to put a stop to shakedowns from prostitutes and others who threatened to out him. He said he had paid “enough to bring it into the millions” - perhaps as much as $10 million - to buy their silence and now was seeking to “put a stop to this barrage of attacks and sub-truths.”

He said one prostitute took a photo of the HIV-related drugs in his medicine cabinet and threatened to sell it to the tabloids.

“Are you still paying these people?” Lauer asked him.

“Not after today I’m not,” Sheen said.

With his public pronouncement he said he hoped to reduce the stigma still felt by some diagnosed with HIV.

“I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people,” he said. “And hopefully with what we’re doing today, others may come forward and say, ‘Thanks, Charlie, for kicking the door open.’”

Hmmph. Seems to be a chicken-egg thing to me. Did the HIV come because of all the whore mongering, or did the whore mongering because of the HIV. I guess it doesn’t matter, as long as his poor ex-wife Denise Richards is virus free. Because that would be too complicated.

HALAL IN LOCAL SCHOOL … DONE DEAL?

Story a couple of days old now.  And it isn’t anything new either as the same had been reported a few years ago at other schools.

I don’t know enough about the subject to know what difference there is.  I think kosher meat is drained of blood as is halal.

Anyway ... the papers are still full of the Paris murders as you may imagine, so this kind of thing doesn’t get much mileage at the moment.
Not surprisingly.

The choice argument is kinda weak if you think about it in this case.  How many kids would know about the subject?
What youngster would be able to tell the difference?  And slaughter by islamic methods wouldn’t mean anything to kids, but it would to the parents. What I think is .... the parents are afraid of being called islamophobic and raaaaaacist.  So they bring the kiddies into it. 
Which shows ya where diversity, multi culture and pol. correctness have brought us.

Kids in ‘no choice’ row over halal meat at Bilborough school

Parents say they are “furious” after claiming a school has given their children no choice over whether they eat halal meat or not.
A letter sent out by Portland Primary Academy in Bilborough advised parents of a change of school meals, which included a note that all meat was halal.

The school says only chicken meat will be halal – the term for a method of slaughtering animals in line with Islamic law.
But parents said the children should be allowed a choice over whether to eat they want to eat this type of meat or not and objected to the method.
Jenni Tyas, of Bilborough, sends two of her four children, aged eight and 11, to the school. “It’s disgusting,” she said.

“There should be a choice and we should have been consulted over it in the first place.
“When I saw what it said on the letter, I sat down and explained to my children what halal meat was, and how the animal was killed, and they said they didn’t want to eat it any more.

“We pay for our school meals so we should have a choice.
‘’I’ve been having to send them in with packed lunches, but they want a warm dinner during the winter.

“A lot of other parents have been down to the school to speak about it,” she added.
Landlady Sonia Sheppard sends her 10-year-old son Elliot to the school.
She said: “It’s not about religion, it’s about choice.

“Everyone should be able to have a choice of what they want to eat no matter what religion they are. We are a big family of animal lovers.
“We’re not vegetarian but we don’t agree with the way the animals are killed to make halal meat.”

A statement was issued by the school after it was contacted by the Post.
It said: “Due to a change in our supplier’s arrangements, our supplier has confirmed from Monday that all chicken meat will be halal, all other meat is not halal.
“Any changes advised by the supplier will be communicated to the community through our website.”

One More For The Birds

Once upon a time when I was younger I was a fairly adept birder. I wasn’t one of the hardcore birdie folks who got up long before dawn, put on their special bird watching outfits, strapped on the proper gear and headed off to the countryside, but I was pretty good at my seagulls and songbirds.  And I could even spell ornithology in 2nd grade.

And of course in those days you had to have a bird book. Or three. Audubon just to look at the artwork. And Roger Tory Peterson’s Field Guide To The Birds for fieldwork.  Which means you kept a little stub of pencil about you for making absolutely honest additions to your Life List in the back. No cheating, ever. It was on your honor and any sighting even slightly questionable was a Maybe at best. And don’t go checking Ivory-Billed Woodpecker no matter how desperately you want it. What you saw probably wasn’t even a Pileated Woodpecker, merely a crow.

I don’t know where my copy is. Maybe it was the family copy after all. It’s been a lot of years. But I remember the little blue book we carried everywhere, from Maine to Florida an beyond. It got a whole lot of use but held up. A later birding book I was given hardly lasted 5 years.

But today I can honestly add “Ring-neck pheasant, male” to my list. Because I saw one in the grass across from my guard shack this morning, and I pointed him out to my supervisor. “Pretty birds they are” says he. “And tasty” says me.

It’s likely that this one escaped the seeding program a couple fields down the road. We have a couple of designated Upland Hunting Areas nearby, which means the state comes and stocks the meadows with game birds for the hunters to shoot at. Not the most sporting thing, but this is New Jersey, and it keeps most of the weekend hunters in one area where the game warden can keep an eye on them.

But a bird outside is a bird in the wild, so on my list he goes. Odd looking fellow. Rather longer and thinner than I expected. Reminded me of a small deli sausage with feathers on it. Our local turkeys are at least 4 times more massive. Easily.

one (of many) brit villages want migrants moved out …. a case of spitting into the wind

While the attitude of the villagers is understandable, and not a surprise, I wonder why it took em this long to gripe in this way.
Well, better late than not at all I suppose.
Now the question is .... will anyone respond or do as the villagers wish?

Or .... will the village be hauled into a court and accused of raaaaacism and fined ?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see.  Meanwhile ....

Angry villagers are campaigning to evict some 70 asylum-seekers from a hotel after becoming fed up with a constant stream of arrivals since July.

Hundreds of people from Somalia, Syria and Iraq have been brought to the Britannia Hotel in Standish, near Wigan, over the past four months, waiting for government officials to process their applications.

But it appears locals have grown tired of the delays after creating a Facebook group titled ‘No More Economic Migrants in Britannia Hotel’. It has more than 2,000 members.

Some of the group’s members claim that petty crime and theft has increased in the area since the asylum-seekers’ arrival, an accusation that has been dismissed by police.

Residents have also set up an online petition demanding that the Home Office move the asylum-seekers, who have been staying in a separate section of the hotel to other paying guests.

Though their Facebook group is titled ‘No More Economic Migrants in Britannia Hotel’, those staying there are said to be genuine asylum-seekers.

That means they are entitled to a room to stay in if they have nowhere else to live and £37 a week to live on. However, asylum-seekers cannot choose where in Britain they are housed, and are unable to work or claim benefits.

If their application is granted by the Home Office they become refugees, meaning they can initially stay in the UK for five years, work and claim benefits but not automatically be given housing.

The hotel, where rooms can cost up to £100 a night, has a billiards room, cocktail bar, health club with an indoor heated pool, hot tub and a fitness centre.

The Facebook group’s founder, Ian Adamczyk, 35, said: ‘There are generations who have used their time to make this village safe and secure for their children and grandchildren yet no one in authority has consulted them as to what is going to happen or how they feel about this situation.

‘If people are genuinely fleeing their countries with their family and children, Britain would hold its hands out to them - but there seems to be too many people exploiting our country and just coming here for a better life. Nearly all the people in the hotel are young men.

‘I think there are people in this country that need the help more or at least just as much. We are never going to be able to help every poor person in the whole world.’

On Thursday, in the space of two hours, three minibuses dropped off dozens of men at the back entrance to the hotel.

When approached for a comment, the majority of the men could not speak English, but one woman confirmed she was staying with her husband and young child and the nationalities of residents were ‘Iranian, Syrian, Pakistani and Iraqi.’

Retired industrial engineer David Lowton, 71, who lives next to the hotel, said: ‘I object to them being there. They are in the rooms at the back with their windows constantly open overlooking my house. I imagine some of the older residents don’t feel safe as most of the asylum seekers are young lads.

‘It annoys me that they are here at taxpayers’ expense. They have the windows wide open all of the time and they must have the heating on too - I can’t afford to have the heating on all day.

‘There used to be two or three coach loads of holidaymakers visiting the hotel each week but you wouldn’t see them now.’

Joseph Murphy, 64, who also lives nearby, added: ‘There is a lot of resentment from a lot of people in Standish who think they aren’t a part of the community, they don’t speak our language and they don’t integrate.

Please close the borders. The people who are not welcomed into other Muslim countries come to the western world and demand rights as refugees. However, they don’t respect the country that took them in. Somehow figure out who is innocent and who is not or close the borders. Either their innocent will die in their countries or our innocent will die with them sneaking in.

I am so damn sick of reading letters to the editor in which, brain dead libtards do not grasp the difference.
They write asking why the world does not have the same reaction to the many hundreds of thousands of innocent civilian deaths caused by allied bombings and wars in places like Syria, Iraq and Libya.  Last I read or heard … our side is not intentionally targeting civilians.  There is an almost endless list of things the allied powers do their best to avoid.  We do not do or condone acts like Paris.
Why can’t they see that?  It cannot just be stupidity. Oh yeah, there is that I agree.
But there just has to be something else at play for them to make that comparison.

Survivors have claimed that a woman was among the group shooting randomly into the crowd before three blew themselves up and a fourth person was shot dead by police before they could detonate their bomb.

At least 129 people died and another 99 were injured in Paris on Friday night after eight terrorists, including one as young as 15, attacked the Stade de France, restaurants and the packed Bataclan concert hall armed with AK-47s, grenades and wearing suicide vests. 

One of the attackers has been named locally as homegrown terrorist and French national Omar Ismaël Mostefai , 29, from the Courcouronnes, Paris.

The petty criminal was known to police as a radical and identified by the fingerprint on a severed digit found after he detonated his suicide belt.
It is believed two of the bombers were carrying Syrian passports and another may have had an Egyptian passport. At least two are believed to be French while several could also be Belgian.

The disclosure that some may have entered Europe as migrants, which came amid claims of French intelligence failures, inevitably raises new security concerns about the safety of Europe’s borders.

Meanwhile the black Seat Leon used by the terrorists who murdered diners outside the Casa Nostra pizza restaurant and the La Belle Équipe cafe nearby has been found abandoned 20 minutes away in Montreuil with a cache of weapons inside.

I post this and perhaps one or two like it because there’s always the chance that you might read something from foreign press that gets missed in reporting back home.
Although in this particular case, I kinda doubt there’d be too much to miss.

WHAT LIBERALISM EVENTUALLY BRINGS TO A SMALL COUNTRY. RIP SWEDEN u asked for it.

Considering the recent history, far as I’m concerned, they can not get far enough right for me.  The further right the better.
I just do not see anyone else who have the deep seated desire to reclaim their country, in any country the right is active in.  Everyone else is either talking about understanding and others are holding signs welcoming migrants.

Meanwhile, over the channel in Calais, since better patrols and fencing and stepped up police activity, migrants at a place called the jungle are getting beyond antsy, many are frustrated at not being able to board trucks as easily as they did 2 months ago, to sneak into the UK.  So, being who they are and no surprise, many are getting somewhat violent.  One trucking company is seriously worried about its drivers and trucks have been damaged by the migrant maggots.

People in positions of power as teachers, lawyers and MPs are bed wetting fools who think that all cultures are equal.

The reality is that people from the turd world live in the turd world because of their culture

Waiting at the bus stop with their bags are three Syrian men fed up with Swedish hospitality. Five minutes ago, they walked out of a charity-run migrants’ hostel surrounded by trees in a pretty tourist town, an hour’s drive from the country’s second city of Gothenburg.

‘We refuse to stay there,’ says 29-year-old Maher Al-Saleh, as he stands defiantly on the roadside. ‘The bedrooms are small, it’s dirty, and they serve pasta every night, which we don’t like. It is run like a Christian prison, with prayers before meals. We are Muslims.’

This may sound rather ungrateful. Maher and his two friends, Mahamed, 22, and Mahmood, 38, came to Sweden after taking this summer’s well-trodden route to Europe from the Middle East, via Turkey. On reaching Germany, they discovered that the waiting time to claim asylum was running into months.

So, last month, they boarded a ferry to ultra-liberal Sweden, which has a reputation for welcoming any foreigner who knocks, and handing out generous taxpayer-funded benefits.

Of course, like the 100,000 other incomers to this country of just 9.5 million people this year, Maher’s group was let in, and given a place to stay. But there’s a problem: by Christmas, another 90,000 are expected to try to enter Sweden, leaving conflict in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as poverty-plagued parts of Africa.

Put the word ‘asylum’ in Arabic into a smartphone search engine and ‘Sweden’ comes out as the top result. Its population is the fastest-growing in the EU. The country accepts one in seven migrants entering Europe — more per capita than any other state.

In 15 years’ time, demographers say, indigenous Swedes will be in a minority because the men who arrive are allowed to send home for wives and children, who in turn will have their own children.

The Swedish economist Tino Sanandaji, who himself has an Iranian-Kurdish background, recently described what’s happening in Sweden as ‘quite disastrous’. He said: ‘This is an irreversible social experiment that no wealthy state has ever attempted. There are almost no ideas or visions over how this can be solved.

‘You can’t combine open borders with a welfare state. If you offer generous benefits, and anyone can come and use these benefits, a very large number of people will try to do that. It’s just mathematically impossible for a small country like Sweden to fund that.’

Indeed, the truth is that despite its oh-so liberal reputation for warmly welcoming incomers, the attitudes of ordinary Swedes about immigration are changing by the hour.

This week, the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven admitted that his country faced a crisis. On Thursday, it reinstated border controls, carrying out identity checks on passengers travelling by train across the strait from Denmark, and those arriving at ferry terminals in the south, to ‘maintain public order’.

Concerns are growing over security, amid fears Sweden could pay a terrible price for its indiscriminate welcome of people whose identities and backgrounds have not been adequately checked.

The country is running out of beds, the Migration Minister Morgan Johansson has warned, and the Swedish people — who already pay the highest taxes in Europe — have even been told their holiday homes may be seized to help out.

As for paying for all the newcomers, Sweden has dipped into part of its overseas aid budget but has also gone cap in hand to the EU, begging for emergency funding to cope with the ever-growing influx. In what many view as an act of rank hypocrisy, this week the government even asked other EU countries with tougher border controls to take migrants off their hands.

Neighbouring Denmark refused. As its Immigration Minister Inger Stojberg bluntly explained: ‘The Swedes put themselves in this situation. They have pursued a very lenient immigration policy for years and they are to blame for the swamp they are in.’

It was back in 1975 that the Swedish parliament decided that the country should become multicultural. The population then stood at eight million — virtually all ethnic Swedes — but its people had a proud history of offering help to outsiders.

A new ultra-liberal immigration policy was pursued enthusiastically by the ruling Left-wing Social Democrats for the next four decades. Sweden seized the moral high- ground in Europe by offering shelter to anyone in the world. Those who criticised the radical plan were shouted down as racist, as Sweden became the EU’s citadel of political correctness.

But today Sweden faces uncomfortable questions about the kind of society it wants, or can afford, to be. At 16 per cent, the foreign-born proportion of its population is already higher than that of not only Germany and Great Britain, but also the U.S.

‘Our society is falling apart. We have to borrow money to provide education and basic health care for our citizens. Due to decades of mass immigration, our previously safe country is not safe any more.

‘Not only do we have a very high number of shootings and gang-related violence . . . but Sweden now has the second highest number of rape reports in the entire world.’

It went on: ‘In Sweden, women and men are equal. Forced marriages and polygamy will never be accepted. Halal slaughter of animals, wearing the niqab or burqa in public places will be forbidden in our country.’

However emotive the leaflet’s language, the fact is that life for all Swedes is changing irrevocably.

By the end of next year, income taxes are expected to be running at 60 per cent for the biggest earners, the highest in the world.

A Paris suicide bomber who was carrying a Syrian passport passed through Greece as a refugee in October, according to a Greek minister.

The passport was retrieved from one of the suicide bombers who blew himself up outside the Stade de France stadium as part of last night’s coordinated attacks, which killed at least 127 people.

The passport holder, who is understood to be 25, passed through the island of Leros of October 3 as a refugee, where he was identified ‘according to EU rules’.

But Greece’s deputy minister in charge of police, Nikos Toscas, did not know if the passport was checked by other countries through which the holder possibly passed on his way to France.

Greek police source said French authorities had asked other countries in Europe, including Greece, to check on the passport. 

However it has not yet been confirmed whether the Syrian passport actually belonged to the bomber, or whether it was authentic or one of the many forged passports flooding into Europe with the refugee crisis.

The French police reportedly asked the Greek authorities today to check the records of 10 people suspected of being linked to the attacks, according to the French newspaper Liberation.

Another of the terrorists involved in last night’s attacks in Paris has been officially identified as a Parisian, according to local media reports.

The man, who was killed at the Bataclan, was identified using his fingerprints and was from the neighbourhood of Courcouronnes, about 20miles south of Paris.

French reports say that the man, who was around 30 years old, was already known to French anti-terrorist authorities prior to last night’s attacks.

Convener of the SNP Friends of Palestine group formed earlier this year, Andy Murray arrived at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv on Monday.

He was detained at passport control, interrogated, strip-searched and swabbed for explosives before being taken to a cell and later deported back to the UK.

Murray, a full-time dad from Glasgow, says Israeli security services expected his arrival and held a file on him, questioning him about friends and family and accusing him of being an “enemy of Israel”.

A full time dad?  Almost missed that on first read.  Ah huh. So then ,,,, he’s unemployed? Maybe on benefits too?
Just asking is all cos it’s curious. So where’s he get the time for all this activism what with kiddies and him being full time.

Now back in Scotland, he told The National he was denied information and access to help from the British Embassy and told: “You have no rights in this country.”

The 44-year-old said: “I felt like the dirt on someone’s shoe. I have never felt that way in my life.

“I feel awful for thinking it, but at the time I just thought thank god they are not treating me like a Palestinian. I don’t know if I could have handled it.”

Murray was part of a group set to visit Palestine as part of a fact-finding trip and has declined to identify other individuals or the non-governmental organisation involved to protect their identities.

Detained on Monday, he was deported to Luton before having to pay for coach travel back to social worker wife Tracey, eight-year-old son Michael and daughter Grace, four.

He said: “I wasn’t emotional until I saw my two kids and realised how much I had missed them.

“Being friends with Palestine doesn’t mean we are an enemy of Israel – far from it. It’s just that Palestine needs all the friends it can get.”

Murray believes his detention was sparked by a meeting at the SNP conference when “someone from the Israeli Embassy” took his business card.

He said: “I made it as far as passport control. They expected me.

“From what I can gather, they had a file on me. I was interrogated very deeply and very personally. They were asking about people I know.

“They had a picture of me taken at a demo in Glasgow last week and a picture of me at SNP conference.

“They mocked the SNP, compared us to the Palestinians, mocked the fact that we lost the referendum, saying ‘what you going to do, rise up and fight the occupiers?’ It was just unbelievable.”

Oh dear, oh dear me. They “mocked” you dear Andy?  Well. Of all the nerve. Why ... you’d think those damn Jews were in their own country.
Hey wait.  They are.  But still ... they also mocked the SNP too?
Tell ya what you fat faced F***.

Find yourself a good Jewish lawyer and cry on his shoulder and then sue the state of Israel.  HA! Now that’s a gas.

Murray claims he and his clothing and belongings were swabbed for explosives residue twice and that Israeli authorities broke into his locked mobile phone and laptop.

He said officers “sneered” at him and made comments in Hebrew, adding: “I don’t know if I was ever arrested. They had not told me what was happening. They gave me no information.

“When I asked for the embassy, it was a case of ‘look out the window, do you see Big Ben? You are not in Britain now’.

“At that point I realised what I was up against.”

Murray was initially set to be deported on Friday and credits his early release to an intervention by Carol Monaghan MP, who contacted British Embassy staff after Murray got a message to his wife.

He said: “This has redoubled my commitment and my determination to fight for a just settlement for Palestine. It’s solidified every fibre in me that we must be doing something right.

“I’m going to wear my ban as a badge of honour.”

The Israeli Embassy did not respond to a request for comment yesterday.

However, Monaghan said: “This incident raises grave concerns about the relationship between the UK and Israel.

“It seems incredible that a country with which the UK enjoys good relations should treat a UK citizen in such a way. There were no reasonable grounds for his detention and eventual deportation.

Jews in Israel will do that you know. They’re known to speak Hebrew from time to time. So he wasn’t lying in saying they were speaking Hebrew.
The nerve of them. 
Now think about it.  If Israel wants to make more friends ....  They should give up all that expensive security stuff, and greet visitors with flowers instead of guns, just assume everybody loves them and treat all ppl that way.
They may end up with a reduction in the Jewish population, but those left standing might have all sorts of good friends.

there are no french jokes to be made.  the flag is tattered but will survive. question is, as what?

I know this image refers to the attack 10 months ago, but I thought it most appropriate today.

It will be very interesting to see what direction the country takes now.  I’m thinking of Marine Le Pen , and the National Front.

I guess we’ll have to wait.

We all weep for France, but will that be the extent of it?

We can say “it can’t happen here”, but it has and it continues to do so.

We can believe the media and their “mentally unstable lone wolf” pronouncements.

We can be shouted down by xenophobic pacifists whose “Co-exist” sticker now covers “Free Tibet”.

We can withdraw our forces and proffer “consulting” and “peace-keeping” services instead.

We can pretend the coming storm will never arrive.

But it will.

And our offspring will curse us to their dying breaths for what we have foisted upon them. Because they - not us - will solve the problem once and for all and in the end, it will be the bloodiest blight on humanity in recorded history.

It will begin with vigilantism because our so-called leaders will continue to down-play what’s happening all around us. The line between Muslim and Islamist will blur to non-existence. Pursuing terrorists to “bring them to justice” will be replaced by summary execution. It will no longer be a question of “good vs. bad”. It will be “us against them” and it will run unabated until the threat is eradicated - and then some.

And our children and grandchildren will never forgive us for what we made them do and what they had to turn into to do so.
