Bowling Party

We had a total blast tonight at league. Sure, we won 2 games and the wood for 5 points out of 7, and I rolled in the 590s, but that’s not it. We got completely pished with the other team, and then got totally silly. Somehow we got involved in something like comic competitive drinking? Not sure, but they were teasing us because our pints of Blue Moon beer had orange slices on the rim, so there were masculine shots of Jim Beam sent around as a counter offensive, followed by shots of something else, followed by ... I’m not sure what. Did you know that Southern Comfort and lime juice is a drink? Kind of odd, and margarita-like, but effective. I seem to recall lots of shrieking and laughter, and something about somebody sitting down in someone else’s wet spot which made everyone else just lose it to the giggles for several minutes. So we had at least too much fun.

Went to the attached restaurant afterwards and had a big Reuben sandwich with fries and a couple cups of coffee, so the booze had plenty of time to burn off and get absorbed before we did any driving.  Pretty sure I went to bed soon after that. Memories seem to be a bit blurry.

One thing I do know, it’s 3:38am here, and I woke up fully dressed on the bed under a quilt. And ever so thirsty. And we had nothing to drink here, other than boring tap water and a bottle of her flavored seltzer stuff. Which has fizz, but really not much flavor. Or so I thought.

Fine. Time to MacGyver up my own soda then. I’d just read one of these “life hack” things this afternoon that said you can get more juice from a lemon if you cut it lengthwise, so I tried it. And then, since it’s 3am, I popped the seeds out and cut into the lemon fruit a whole bunch of times, running the knife tip just up to the skin. Oh yeah, I got the juice out all right. Poured it! So, juice of half a huge lemon into a glass with a pint of cold Adirondack Wildberry seltzer, add a heaping tablespoon of sugar. Stir. Drink. Crivens, this is nearly the real deal! Berry taste, citric acid punch, sugar, fizz. Pretty close; if I had a lime I’d be in business. Quite refreshing. Make myself up another pint and head back to bed. Smart Drew, he stops off at the bathroom, downs a couple of aspirin ahead of time, just in case.

Back to sleep.

Store Clerk Takes On 4 Armed Robbers

Shoots 2, the others ran

A Tulsa liquor store clerk took on four masked men during an attempted robbery earlier this week, shooting and killing two and helping bring an end to a serial robbery ring.

The four assailants entered Ryan’s Liquor at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Tulsa World. One of the men, 27-year-old Brian Powell, pulled out a handgun and fired a shot upon entrance and demanded money.

But the store clerk did not comply. Instead, he pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and fired it, hitting and killing Powell and 16-year-old Kevin Dobbs.

A Tulsa man seven months shy of ending his probation for a prior larceny conviction is one of two men identified by police as being shot by a store clerk during a failed robbery attempt Tuesday night.
...
Police also announced the arrest of two men, 20-year-old Lakeit Thompson and 17-year-old George K. Williamson, in connection with the botched robbery attempt, as well as “other robberies.”

Thompson was being held Tuesday morning on six counts of robbery with a firearm, as well as two counts of attempted robbery, two counts of felony murder and a number of traffic complaints.
...
According to his arrest report, Thompson has been connected by police to eight separate robberies, the first of which happened Dec. 7. The circumstances behind each robbery were the same — multiple suspects armed with weapons entering a store and leaving with money.

Williamson was connected to three alleged robberies, according to his arrest report.

There’s your new MO. A whole damn gang of career criminals attacks a store at once. Better start training to be the next Jerry Miculek.

And yes, the gang of robbers looked exactly the way you think they looked.

Oh Grow Up

Oscars 2015: Whites Only

For only the second time in nearly two decades, the 20 Academy Awards acting nominations went to a group made up entirely of white actors and actresses.

Among the notable snubs was David Oyelowo, who received praise for his turn as the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma.

In 2011, the 20 nominees also were entirely white. Before that, one has to go back to 1998 for an all-white acting group.

The all-white nominees list comes at time when Hollywood is fielding criticism for not doing enough to promote diversity in filmmaking. And just last month, Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin were apologizing for leaked emails that appeared to be racially insensitive. Rudin was nominated this morning for producing best picture nominee The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The Oscar acting nominations are typically a reflection, in some part, of the best roles of the year available to actors and actresses, which makes 2015’s lineup troubling. The two writing categories also were dominated by white men. Not a single woman was nominated in either category.

Though the Academy doesn’t reveal a breakdown of its membership, a 2012 report by the Los Angeles Times found that of the nearly 6,000 members, 94% are white, 77% are male and 86% are age 50 or older.

Idiots. Try running the numbers. I do not know if the numbers of black actors appearing in any year’s films follows the percentage of black people in the population, but for simplicity’s sake assume it does. Let’s call that percentage 15%. Which means that white people (there are no other groups apparently) make up 85%.

So there’s an 85% chance any nominee for any category in any year is going to be white. In two years, 0.85 X 0.85 = 0.723, or a 72.3% chance. And so on ... such that at 20 years, (or 20 categories) the chance is down to 3.9%. Not that great, BUT over 20 years, 20 * 0.039 = 0.7752, which rounds out to a 78% chance. Which means that the odds are a bit better than 3 in 4 that a list of all white nominees is going to come up at least once every 20 years. It’s going to happen more often than not. And over a 26 year period, it’s a guarantee.

Talk to the dice fools. That’s how they roll.

PS - the odds of any white person winning any award for anything, ever, at the BET awards is exactly ZERO. In an effort to eradicate racism, ain’t no white people allowed there at all.

police in anti terrorist raid … belgium tonight

Even usually quiet, little Belgium.

BREAKING NEWS: Anti-terror raid in Belgian town centre ‘leaves two dead after 10-minute gun battle with Islamic State cell sent back to carry out attacks on Europe’

Official says that the police anti-terror raid is ‘jihadist-related’
Men targeted were under surveillance having returned from Syria last week
Islamic State video yesterday called for lone-wolf attacks in Europe
Comes after investigators said they were probing local arms dealer
He is believed to have sold weapons to deli killer Amedy Coulibaly

By Peter Allen and Damien Gayle for MailOnline and Reuters

Two people were killed by police during a ‘jihadi-related’ anti-terror raid tonight in the Belgian town of Verviers.

Shots and explosions were heard, including machine gun fire, as officers moved against an alleged cell in the eastern town, which is some 70 miles from Brussels.

It follows three days of violence in nearby France, which left 20 people dead, including three Islamic State and Al Qaeda linked terrorists.

Officials said the targets were a jihadist cell who had recently returned from Syria and had been ordered to carry out attacks in Europe by Islamic State superiors

Hooded commandos were seen in Verviers, near Liege, shortly before 6pm, and according to Belgian prosecutors they were trying to arrest Islamic extremists newly returned from fighting in Syria.

‘An operation is under way,’ a source in the mayor’s office told AFP without giving further details. Another official separately told the agency the incident was ‘jihadist-related’.

Beyond the dead – who number two or three – a ‘number of people were also arrested,’ said the local judicial source. Belgium, which has long been home to a large Muslim population, is believed to have the highest proportion of citizens who have left to fight in the Middle East, after Britain

Automatic weapons and a rocket launcher used in the Charlie Hebdo and Kosher supermarket attacks in Paris were purchased from Belgian gangs, police said earlier this week.

The Scorpion machine gun and the Tokarev handgun used by Amedy Coulibaly during his attack on the kosher supermarket which resulted in the deaths of four Jewish Parisians came from Brussels and Charleroi.

And the Kalashnikovs and rocket launchers used by the Kouachi brothers to attack the offices of the Charlie Hebdo magazine, killing 12, were purchased by Coulibaly near the Gare du Midi in Brussels for less than £4000.

There was no immediate confirmation of any link between the Coulibaly investigation and Thursday’s raid.

One man, Neetin Farasula, from the airport city of Charleroi in French-speaking southern Belgium, is in detention on suspicion of a possible link to the weapons used in the Paris attacks.

lots to read, source.

Belgium Terror Cell Raided

Breaking: 2 Jihadis dead, 1 Captured in Belgian Raid

At least 3 people were killed in an anti-terror raid in Belgium Thursday that one official confirmed was “jihadist related,” and a man suspected of selling guns used in last week’s terror attacks in France was being detained in another part of the country, according to multiple reports.

The deadly raid was in Verviers, in eastern Belgium, according to the Telegraph. Belgian public television channel RTBF reported that the public prosecutor’s office confirmed the deaths of two suspects and arrests of “several” more. The station said there were no casualties among the security forces involved and that several people had been arrested. Federal prosecutors were quoted as saying there had been a police operation near the center of the city of 55,000, some 70 miles from Brussels.

Sky News reported three jihadists who had recently returned from Syria were killed. Explosions and gunfire were apparently heard near the station, according to Belgium’s public broadcaster RTBF. The Belga news agency said there were several casualties and police activity was continuing.

“An operation is underway,” a source in the mayor’s office told AFP without giving further details.

Another official told the agency it was “jihadist-related” and a news conference was scheduled for 8 p.m. local time.

The group that Belgian authorities confronted Thursday was about to carry out major terrorist attacks in Belgium imminently, spokesman for the Belgian Federal Prosecutor Eric van der Sypt said. Two suspects were killed in the operation.

Two people were killed Thursday in an anti-terrorism operation in the eastern Belgian city of Verviers, CNN affiliate VTM News reported.

The group is believed to have links to ISIS and to have been planning attacks in Belgium, CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank said.

Federal Belgian police took at least one suspect into custody near a train station, VTM News said. Further details weren’t immediately available.

Verviers is about 69 miles (111 kilometers) east-southeast of Brussels and 200 miles (322 kilometers) northeast of Paris.

The anti-terrorism raid comes amid heightened alerts in Europe after this month’s attack on the office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris.

Anti-terrorism operations were underway in other cities, a senior Belgian counter-terrorism official told Cruickshank.

Reports on TV say that 10 raids and/or investigations are on in this and 3 other cities in Belgium. Looks like counter-terror forces are trying to take down a whole network. Good.

Belgian officials are now also saying that this group has no direct connection to the group that carried out last week’s attack in Paris.

another voice heard …. hey Liam, you can always go back to Ireland. No guns there, are there?

Wunerful,wunerful.
Another foreign celeb, actor Liam Neeson has his say on guns in America.  Claims there kids being shot in schools every week.
That’s the quote anyway.

‘America has too many f****** guns’: Taken star Liam Neeson launches expletive laden tirade on gun control

The 62-year-old is famous for playing gun-totting father Bryan Mills in Taken franchise
He defended his on-screen role, saying movies were just ‘fantasy’

Neeson spoke out after being asked about the Paris terrorist attacks

He said his ‘thoughts and payers and heart’ were with the Paris victims

Was reportedly paid more than $20 million for Taken 3 - elevating him to the same pay-bracket as Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie
Taken 3 shot to number one at the box office over the weekend with a gross of $39.1 million
The ultra violent revenge franchise as raked in $630 million at global box office

By Steve Hopkins for MailOnline

But now the Irish-born actor and star of the ultra-violent Taken trilogy has thought it wise to wade into America’s fraught gun debate.

Speaking at a press conference in Dubai for the launch of Taken 3 on Tuesday, Neeson offered an interviewer his opinion of his adopted home’s attitude to firearms.

‘There’s just too many [expletive] guns out there,’ said Neeson, who is reputed to have been paid $20 million for the new latest Taken installment.

‘Especially in America. I think the population is like, 320 million? There’s over 300 million guns. Privately owned, in America.

‘I think it’s a [expletive] disgrace. Every week now we’re picking up a newspaper and seeing, ‘Yet another few kids have been killed in schools.’

Never mind the article and Neeson, read the comments following the article.
A number from the USA and some maddening ones from euros who think they know America. All still interesting to read as well as entertaining.

Almost Michael

Dirtbag 14 year old thug with rap sheet a mile long was beat to the draw by cops when going for his loaded gun. Now he’s still alive and facing a whole new slew of charges. Probably back out on the street already.

TAMPA Florida (FOX 13) - Hillsborough County deputies say they nearly had to shoot a 14-year-old who was reaching into his waistband.

Deputies say that a search revealed Dallas Robinson was carrying a gun and two magazines of hollow-point bullets.

“This was a kid that was fully-loaded, ready to go,” said HCSO spokesman Larry McKinnon.

They also found that he has a rap sheet that goes back to when he was 10.

Just after midnight in Tampa, near the intersection of St. James and 127th Ave., a deputy stopped Robinson because his bike didn’t have a headlight.

They say that Robinson ran and that the deputy struggled with him before Robinson reached for his waistband.

“The only reason this deputy believes that this kid didn’t get the gun and shoot him was because he got the draw on him first,” McKinnon said. “Fortunately, we are not at a funeral today, either this kid’s or our law enforcement deputy’s.”

Robinson has fourteen priors starting in 2010 when he was ten.

He has faced charges of carrying a concealed firearm, armed robbery and possession of drugs.

“He needs to be in a program,” said his grandfather, who didn’t want us to identify him.

The grandfather says their family has no idea why the juvenile justice system has let Robinson go.

As recently as 11 days ago, they say he was brought home after a stint in a juvenile assessment center for violating probation for a previous weapons charge.

Riiiight ... it’s Juvie’s responsibility to keep this animal in check. The father? Who?? What??  The mother, she’s got other kids to look after.  School? No, he done got kicked outta school. Expelled from teh 8th grade. Just another unwanted feral child.

Obama Slams EPA Brakes On Recovering Economy?

Cheap Gas? Obama: New Methane Limits For Fracking!!!

The Obama administration pushed new regulations Wednesday aimed at cutting methane emissions from the natural gas sector, calling the proposed rules a needed step to address global warming as industry groups warned the move would threaten “America’s energy renaissance.”

Relying once again on the Clean Air Act, the rules—the first of their kind—join a host of others that President Obama has ordered in an effort to slow global warming despite opposition in Congress that has only hardened since the midterm elections.

Although just a sliver of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, methane is more powerful than carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere.

The White House set a new target for the U.S. to cut methane emissions by 40 percent to 45 percent by 2025, compared with 2012 levels. To meet that goal, the Environmental Protection Agency will issue a proposal affecting oil and gas production, while the Interior Department will update its standards for drilling to reduce leakage from wells on public lands.

The American Petroleum Institute, which represents the oil and gas industry, decried the proposal—questioning why the government would seek new rules when methane emissions have fallen.

“Even with that knowledge, the White House has singled out oil and natural gas for regulation,” API President Jack Gerard said in a statement.

He predicted emissions would continue to fall without government intervention, but said, “another layer of burdensome requirements could actually slow down industry progress to reduce methane emissions.”

Further, he said new regulations “could threaten the shale energy revolution.”

“We need our government to implement sound policies, but this plan seems to be based on politics,” Gerard said.

Yeah, well, no kidding. Even when the economy had the audacity to start to heal, all based on the success of the petro industry DESPITE all this regime’s new rules and regulations and refusal to allow use of federal land, refusal to sign Keystone XL, and so on, now that gas is getting close to being affordable once again for the first time in ages and ages, now the leftist tree humper wants to throw another big speed bump in the way, to take away any hope we might finally have a bit of positive change? Because of Global Warming? As another polar vortex grips the nation for another winter, and snow falls in Saudi Arabia for the 3rd year in a row? That one? The one that doesn’t friggin’ exist?

How much is it going to take to throw this bum out?

Do I need to ask, whose side is this guy on?

The oil and gas industry has insisted such rules aren’t necessary because the industry is already working to reduce methane leakage. After all, methane is natural gas, so the less that leaks during production, the more of it that companies have left to sell.

“We’re doing a good job,” said Howard Feldman, the regulatory director at the American Petroleum Institute. He noted that existing pollution rules on smog-forming pollutants have had the added benefit of cutting methane. “We don’t think it’s necessary to go after methane in any way, shape or form.”

Well duh. Like business is going to just piss away income that they have the ability to collect? So they need new rules to stop them? What kind of commie thinking is that?
