Speechless

Just want to tell you I got carded at Dollar General today. Didn’t card me for the beer, carded me for the OTC cold medicine. Claimed they had to since the OTC medicine contained alcohol. Excuse me? Notice the beer you didn’t card me for?

This is important

I posted this as a comment otherwhere but I think it bears repeating:

“I’ve twice taken an oath to defend the Constitution. Not the government, not the President, not the country. If my country ceases to support the Constitution then we part ways.”

is it safe yet?

Is it safe to come out yet?

I’ve been hiding. On purpose.

I simply can not take another moment of Ferguson BS on TV. Not another moment. Not a riot, not an idiotic protest. “I can’t breathe!” Not another wound up moron on the news having a fit. And certainly not another far-over-the-left-horizon essay on how all us bad white folks can’t possibly begin to understand the basic reality that it’s illegal to be black.

It’s pure bullshit. And I’ve reached my limit, and I’m in backlash mode. You don’t get supra-equality any longer. Whatever standards I have to meet, in education, employment, or whatever, you have to meet as well. If I’m not getting any government cheese, then neither are you. And no, we don’t turn that around to give me cheese if you’re getting some. Figure out how to get your own. On you own dime. Just like the rest of us. That’s real equality.

I am completely in favor of a color blind society. No hyphenations, no categories, no place on any form anywhere for race. Every last database table purged. “Citizen”, “non-citizen”; that’s all there should be. Gosh, if that was our world, would keeping a separate sub-culture, out of the ‘melting pot’ and with special rules, expectations, and hyphenations, wouldn’t that be antithetical to merely being a “citizen”? Engaging in Anti-American behavior?

an interesting read?  I hope so.

This was one hell of a sad day for this area.

No surprise of course as it was only a matter of time, money and greased palms.
Developers almost always win.

This was once owned by Winchester College who sold the farm to developers.

I snapped a couple of quick photos last month but wish I had been up and about and made the effort to snap pix when all was green or when the last crop was in bloom.

As I understand things, and having already seen some of the magnificent trees turned into a giant cone shaped pile of wood chips, construction begins soon as some signs are already up.  Our roads will be a mess for awhile I imagine. I also imagine that this place will lose a lot in beauty and lifestyle.

This was part of the Green Belt.  It’s an island nation.
Once paved over …… that’ll be all she wrote.

“Save Barton Farm Group” closes down

Message from the Chairman

On 31st May, 2014, the “Save Barton Farm Group” was wound up.

For fifteen years the Group had campaigned energetically against the building of 2,000 homes and associated buildings and infrastructure on the green fields that provided one of the important green ‘lungs’ of the ancient city of Winchester. In granting planning consent for this development the Secretary of State, aided by the local authority, demolished the expressed hopes and wishes of thousands of citizens and put an end for ever to this particularly valued part of our green and pleasant land.

That decision, having been made, leaves our Group without its fundamental purpose. Many of our supporters and activists will continue to be involved in campaigning to ensure that the building over Barton Farm will be as inoffensive as possible but there are a number of other groups and organisations that are leading the way in this and involvement with these is how our supporters can, and will, continue to contribute.

In making this announcement, we want to pay particular tribute to the widely admired leadership of our previous Chairman, Gavin Blackman, who devoted so much time, effort and wisdom to leading our campaign. Likewise our former Secretary, Mrs Chris Slattery, worked tirelessly for the campaign and represented us skilfully and persuasively at many of the meetings, Inquiries and Public Hearings. We owe them a real debt of gratitude.

So, “Save Barton Farm Group” is shutting up shop. Accordingly this website is no longer active. We are not taking it down immediately. Some of its content will remain for a while as an archive of our past activities, notices, information and events, since these may be of interest for a while. It will not, however, be a ‘live’ or maintained website from now on.

In announcing this closing down, may I thank my former Committee colleagues for their support and also the hundreds, even thousands, of you who have been our Supporters for so many years.Thank you and goodbye !
Robert Howland
(Chairman, SBFG)

Lots of old issues at link.  Or simply Google Barton Farm.

I’m signing off depressed.

http://www.savebartonfarm.org/

H/T Christopher who got me moving on this subject after months with my head in the sand.
I knew about the issues, the meetings and the letters written to the editor of the local paper, and knew all along the fight would not be won.

In the last day or two on a totally unrelated subject subject, Christopher mentioned a guy I forgot about, but whose records I used to play when I was a DJ.

But there was one particular recording that suddenly came to mind while I was deleting some old Barton Farm photos and holding back tears. Well, not really that far gone but honestly depressed. This place is only down the road from us by less than a mile.

Now here’s a problem I have never seen before and due to that damn problem, I can not post or somehow embed the song itself. Which is awesome. Beautifully done. I don’t understand it, the link to copy and or embed simply jitters, jumps up and down but no link.

So here are the words.

There won’t be no Country Music, There won’t be no Rock n Roll

(C.W. McCall, Bill Fries, Chip Davis)

Well, it’s only gonna be about an hour, friend
‘Til they dam your favorite river
So you can water-ski just one more reservior
And them supersonic ships are gonna take you
‘Cross a sea of pavement
To one more faceless brickyard on the shore

Yeah, it’s only gonna be about an hour or so
‘Til they rip off all your mountains, boy
And that one last tired old eagle bites the sand
And all of that high-and-mighty scenery’s
Gonna be leveled to the ground, boy
By a bunch a’ them mindless strip mines on the land

[Chorus]
So listen well, my brothers
When you hear the night wind sigh
And you see the wild goose flying
Through the gray, polluted sky
There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

Well, it’s only gonna take about a minute or so
‘Til the junkyards fill the prairies, boy
And them smokin’ yellow grass fires start to burn
And the warnings on them beer cans
Gonna be buried in them landfills
No deposit, no sad songs, and no returns

Yeah, it’s only gonna take about a minute or so
‘Til the factories block the sun out
You gonna have to turn your lights on just to see
And them lights are gonna be neon, sayin’
“Fly Our Jets To Paradise”
And the whole damn world is gonna be made of styrene

[Chorus]
So listen well, my brothers
When you hear the night wind sigh
And you see the wild goose flying
Through the gray, polluted sky
There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

Yeah, it’s only gonna be about a second, boy
‘Til they take away all’a this country
And they’ll tell you not to listen to this here song
And that far-off sound of freedom’s
Gonna be an echo from the past
And the final tune is gonna be sad and long

And it’s only gonna be about an eye-blink, boy
‘Til they pull out the wool to blind us
So we just can’t read all the messages on the wall
But the only words that matter
Oughta be scribbled all over them billboards
In big old black and bloody letters, ten feet tall

[Chorus]

THERE WON’T BE NO COUNTRY MUSIC
THERE WON’T BE NO ROCK ‘N’ ROLL
‘CAUSE WHEN THEY TAKE AWAY OUR COUNTRY
THEY’LL TAKE AWAY OUR SOUL

There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

FIFY? [ Drew ]

Not having any memory of CW McCalll, I was amazed to find that he sounds quite like Butthead trying to sing.

some points of view and my own angry as usual rant cos libs drive me up the wall

A couple of notes of interest I found on the letters page.

CLUELESS TEACHERS

It’s time general knowledge was added to the school curriculum.
As an old geezer, I watch many quiz programmes on which the ignorance of some of today’s teachers is beyond belief.
Recent examples have included:

Q. What was the Fighting Temeraire?
A. A racehorse (wrong)

Q. Which English queen’s face appeared on the first postage stamp?
A. Elizabeth 1 (wrong)

Q. Who was the first president of the USA?

A. JFK

In each case, the excuse given by the teachers was that these subjects weren’t on the agenda when they were at school.

God Help the children of the future.

Terry Duncan, Bridlington, East Yorkshire

A LESSON FROM INDIA

The father of an immigrant family told me he was sending his teenage daughter back to India to finish her education.
I asked him if she was going to learn more about her culture, but he said no, she was going to school in India to learn “proper” English.
He said the education system set up by the British still taught Oxford English.
A pity our schools don’t.

K. Jennings, Cardiff

And from the world of Loony Tune economics as approved by progressives and lefties and a possibly a few soft hearted cons as well ….  comes this insanity.

It’s been published (or where could I have gotten a figure like this?) that the national debt of the UK is approaching £1.65 trillion.  Sheesh.  How many zeros is that?
The govt. is looking at spending cuts of 55 billion required in the next Parliament to balance the budget.  Hang in here with me … it gets interesting about this point.

The outta touch powers that be who run this place, have voted to enshrine in law, a commitment to spend .7 per cent of national income on (more) overseas aid.
Wait … we aren’t finished with this self financial flagellation yet.
Flagellation must always include insult too and here it is.

A further £1 billion is going to be added to the £12 billion allocated to foreign aid, which is so swollen reports the Daily Mail, that the department responsible struggles to spend it all.  Huh?  That’s what the papers say.
But hey people …. look at it this way.  Although this country spends a billion EVERY MONTH overseas ….

At least it’s all politically correct so that’s alright then.

And finally to end this for the evening for me this bit of news none of you are aware of. Don’t we wish?

The rest of the news is all about that racist America where more blacks are in jail then in school or jobs.  Where white cops are having a filed day shooting blacks for fun and no profit.  One libtard writer reports that one poor teen was shot dead by a cop who was declared not fit back in 2012, and the poor dead Negro was only holding a fake gun yet the cop shot him anyway.  She knows damn well fake guns of that type have a colored tip of some kind to ID them as not real guns. The bitch knows that but omitted it from her column. Typical. The way the nasty slag wrote tho, he was shot cos he was black.  Nobody writes about the fractions of seconds a cop has to decide if his life is on the line.  Oh yeah, and then we’re back to that Trayvon kid whose spelling I think I have wrong but who cares?  She ID’s the guy who shot him as a cop also.  I didn’t even read the entire column.  I just really wanna outlive the bitch.

Convoy!

peiper, just some background here:

After touring with the Norman Luboff Choir, he took a job with an Omaha, Nebraska advertising agency writing jingles. These included spots for a local bakery featuring the fictional trucker C. W. McCall. The spots were co-written with advertising writer William Fries, who became the voice of McCall. The spots were so popular, they were persuaded to begin writing non-advertising songs featuring McCall. The duo released a total of five albums between 1974 and 1979. Davis was named SESAC Country Music Writer of the Year in 1976.[citation needed]

Davis founded Mannheim Steamroller in 1974 to showcase his interest in fusing modern popular and classical techniques. The first Fresh Aire album was completed shortly after. It was turned down by major record labels so Davis founded American Gramaphone to release the album. American Gramaphone has been the label for all subsequent Mannheim Steamroller releases. A total of eight Fresh Aire albums were released, concluding with Fresh Aire 8 in 2000.

And now, an old live performance of Chip Davis, aka C.W. McCall.

I did notice a ‘Christmas’ subcategory has appeared. Thank you which ever of you did that. Still want to pare the categories down, but new stuff as a subcategory may help.

Burned out on Mannheim Steamroller

Nothing against Mannheim Steamroller’s Christmas music, but these ‘baebes’ are a welcome change and easier on the eyes than Chip Davis.

Still need a Christmas tag Drew, or peiper. I refuse to use ‘Holidays’.

Part of a two day celebration in honor of a bridge. Drew will appreciate this.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge, spanning the picturesque Avon Gorge, is the symbol of the city of Bristol. For almost 150 years this Grade I listed structure has attracted visitors from all over the world.

image

Ten of thousands of people have attended a spectacular fireworks display in Bristol to mark 150 years of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The display was part of a two-day celebration for Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s structure, which joins Bristol to North Somerset and was designed by the engineer in 1829.

The bridge joins Bristol and North Somerset and is owned and operated by Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust. It is entirely funded by tolls - which have paid for its upkeep since it first opened to the public on 8th December 1864. We are open and manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year.

Ring of Fire

Been reading the Eric Flint inspired series of ‘The Ring of Fire’.

The ‘Ring of Fire’ involves a small town in W. VA. Grantville, in particular. See, about 6 miles circular of Grantville WVa got dumped right in the middle of the 1631 30 years War. Thuringia. In one of the Germanies at the time. Poor people, didn’t really know… mercenaries killing farmers and raping the women right in front of you?  Michael Stearns, the local union president fixes that. Under his leadership they blow the mercenaries away. But he also has to decide who to join with. Gustave Adolphus? Richieliue? Or Ferdinand II. He knows that Grantville can’t keep it up. They just don’t have the manpower or the tech.

Angels We Have Heard On High

I’m kinda hoping to ‘offend’ others with my pro-judeochristian bias. No bowing to ‘multi-cultural’ or Islam here!

Need a “Christmas” tag Drew. “Holidays” just doesn’t cover it.
