Breaking Bad, From The Beginning, Again

This is it folks. Time to set up your VHS or your DVR.

Starting tomorrow at 5pm, until 1am, every Sunday night until October, the AMC channel will be rerunning every single episode of the hit TV show Breaking Bad. In order. All 62 episodes from all the seasons.

This is my chance. I never saw the show when it was on, not once. And my cable company (Xfinity) has entered into some kind of satanic deal with Amazon and Hulu, in that the On Demand thing is now nearly worthless; back episodes and entire seasons of popular shows were once available for free, but now the damn cable company wants me to pay $2.99 per episode. Like bloody hell I will. I already paid you bastards a ton of money in the first place, enough so that your airing advertisements during the shows is a slap in the face insult. This latest move just ads more insult to injury. So I’m going to figure out how to rig up an HD Tivo or something. Some kind of recorder I can plop a few terrabytes of hard drive in that will record half a thousand hours of high def. Because I’m not paying you again, ever.

Meanwhile, I’ll have to figure out tonight how to use the cable company’s built in DVR, and cross my fingers that it can hold 62 hours or more of shows.

Before you Call Saul, you Better catch up on Breaking Bad. AMC announced today that it has slated a binge-a-thon of all 62 episodes of the Emmy-winning drug drama for later this summer. Beginning Aug. 10, the show will air every Sunday night from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. before wrapping up on Oct. 5 with the series finale. The episodes also will feature never-before-aired interviews with both the cast and crew, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and commentary.

Well, I can put up with a bit of post-show commentary. As long as it doesn’t force the episodes to be cut to run in a given time length (shorter). But if they get in the middle of the show, all film-school like, as if their TV show was some artistic masterpiece ... then I’m gonna be really, really cheesed.

Wow, that was easy. I did it all online. Kewl. Programmed the DVR from my PC. Gotta love that convergent technology stuff. And the commentary stuff is in 5 minute chunks after each episode. So that’s fine. Phew.

There’s A Moon Out Tonight

"Keep on looking up”, the words of the late great Jack Horkheimer, host of PBS TV’s Star Gazer and guide to the stars. The real ones, not those other flaming gasbags.  In space, not in Hollywood.

Light Up The Night

“supermoon" at it’s closest point tonight for a decade

South Florida is in for a celestial treat this weekend when the second of three supermoons this summer will be visible.

The full moon on August 10th isn’t like any other full moon we’ve seen this year. This is a “Supermoon,” the closest and largest full moon in 2014.

When the moon is full as it makes its closest pass to Earth, it becomes a “Supermoon,” and will be up to 31,000 miles closer to Earth than other full moons this year.

According to NASA, this full moon will be 14-percent closer and 30-percent brighter than other full moons of the year.

The scientific term for the phenomenon is “perigee moon” or the point when the Moon is closest to the Earth in its monthly orbit.

The moon will appear much larger than normal, especially on the horizon.

Pretty neat.

Seeing The Future

Gee whillikers, I could’ve sworn I wrote something just like this only yesterday. Guess I’m not completely alone in my viewpoints. That’s nice to know.

yay me, I suppose.

The fact is that it was Obama who ensured the premature pulling of our troops, because this is what Democrats do…

Democrats lose won wars.

Vietnam was won.

Yep.

Your history teachers and professors don’t tell you this; nor do media documentaries. But the Vietnam War was won and America won it.

Which is what I’ve always said.

Oh, the war in Iraq was won, but it wouldn’t stay won without an American presence.

Regardless, the President bugged out of Iraq without an all-important status of forces agreement. In other words, like the stabilizing troops we still have in Japan, Germany, and South Korea — we left no one in Iraq.

The results in Iraq have already been catastrophic. But if Obama, the Democrats, and media stay true to their obvious desire to have Iraq go down in the loss column for America, these days will be remembered as the good ole’ days.

Thanks to Obama’s highly dangerous combination for ambition and ignorance, ISIS is now a terrorist nation-state within Iraq (and part of Syria) with a standing army, a command and control infrastructure, control of a 600-mile front in the North, and a half-billion dollars. It gets worse…

The terrorist nation-state of ISIS, or whatever they call it, is America’s worst nightmare realized.

Obama describes ISIS as “junior varsity.”

Obama is a liar.

Go and read the rest. I didn’t finish it, so I don’t know if he digs down deep enough to remind us that it was Democrat perfidy that lost China to the communists, under Truman. Another won war, lost. [no, he doesn’t, since Iraq is the focus of this short essay]

liar liar pants on fire!!

A plug for a great resource

I’ve been a fan, and customer, of The Great Courses.com

Now a bigger fan: their customer service is great:

August 7th I sent this;

“Dear Great Courses,

In reference to my order Sxxxxxxx dated 02/27/2014;

I just opened The Peloponnesian War (Peloponnesian War (DVD) Item Number: PD3372) and find the I’m missing Part 2 entirely. (that would be disks 3 & 4.) Since Parts 1 and 3 were shrink-wrapped together I can only assume a mistake in the packaging /shipping was made.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Christopher xxxxxx
xxxxxxxx
Dayton, OH xxxxx”

The reply the very next day. Today!

Dear Mr. xxxxxx:

Thank you for your email.  I apologize for the error with your course.

We will send a new copy of The Peloponnesian War right out for you.  There is no need to return that erroneous course.

If there is anything else we can do for you at this time, please let us know.  Again, I apologize for the error and thank you for your interest in The Great Courses.

The Great Courses, cheaper, and more convenient than auditing a class at the local college/university. (Taking classes for credit? Can’t help you.)

Ok, Two Air Strikes

Hours before the US news had the story, the UK papers knew that the US military had made another attack or so against ISIS. This time they blew up a convoy, but not before the terrorists managed to steal a whole slew of refugee women to use as sex slaves.

image

Yeah, it’s about time to drop a couple bombs, doncha think???

ISIS militants have made hostages of hundreds of Yazidi women after America waded into the unfolding crisis in Iraq by dropping bombs on the extremists’ artillery.

Earlier today President Obama authorised two bombers to sweep up form the Persian Gulf and drop their payloads on jihadist emplacements, in response to their actions against the Yazidi religious minority in the north of the country.

Later the U.S. military conducted two additional air strikes against the extremists near the city of Arbil in northern Iraq, the Pentagon said.

The second wave of air strikes, included a drone strike on a mortar position and an attack by four F/A-18 jets on an Islamic State convoy and mortar position. They made two passes, released eight bombs and “neutralized” the fighters

But now ISIS - which calls itself the Islamic State - has struck the group again by capturing hundreds of women from Mosul, Iraq’s second city. Earlier reports indicated that capture Yazidi women were intended to be given to young jihadists as wives.

American aircraft continued attacking targets in Iraq on Friday, the Pentagon said, killing terrorists who were launching attacks from mortars and underway in a convoy.

The savage group - which boasts of crucifying, mutilating and executing those it conquers - is now advancing into the Kurdish northern area of Iraq, which was formerly thought to be safe.

Fighters were today just 25 miles from Erbil, the Kurdish capital, which has been a safe haven in the country throughout the rise of ISIS, and also during the Iraq war to topple Saddam Hussein.

An Iraqi government official confirmed the hostage-taking, and said the women are all younger than 35.

Kamil Amin, the spokesman for Iraq’s Human Rights Ministry, said: ‘We think that the terrorists by now consider them slaves and they have vicious plans for them. We think that these women are going to be used in demeaning ways by those terrorists to satisfy their animalistic urges in a way that contradicts all the human and Islamic values.’

There are claims that many have been raped and there are fears that they will be sold into slavery by the fanatics. Those trapped on the mountain say they fear they face ‘slaughter’ . They spoke of appalling conditions with no water, food or medicine, and little shelter apart from lone trees, under which groups huddle together, or caves dotted in the barren, bleak mountainside.

‘We are being slaughtered,’ Yazidi MP, Vian Dakhil, said: ‘Our entire religion is being wiped off the face of the earth.’

Another said: ‘We have nothing here except ground to sleep on, there is no food or water, people are hungry, people are crying for help.’

One Yazidi official, Mahma Khalil, put the number sheltering on the mountain, which the community considers the holy site where Noah’s ark settled after the biblical flood, as high as 250,000.

‘Please save us! SOS! save us!’ he pleaded, ‘Our people are in the desert. They are exposed to a genocide.’

Too Much News

I had to turn the TV news off. I just couldn’t watch it any longer. What a mess, and what biased, hole-filled reporting.

Fox Snooze ... I’m beginning to share the Left’s view on this network. They may be close to worthless. Too many talk shows, too many panel discussions, too many liberal newscasters.  I hit the OFF switch when Shepard Smith came on, and started having a total hissy fit over the situation in Iraq with ISIS, these Yazidi people, and the Kurdish Peshmerga. He’s “reporting” the news with such a thinly veiled “it serves them right” attitude it was unwatchable. Yes Schlep, ISIS is a bunch of savage mutant sub-human slime. And they are armed to the teeth with OUR STUFF. And they have become a genuine army because of it, and against a genuine army the Kurdish militia can not stand. And he’s right that ISIS got all the military supplies we gave to Iraq because their government troops dropped them and ran. And he’s right that those troops ran because they were poorly trained and lead, because PM al-Maliki was at heart a typically corrupt and self-centered Arab, who kept all those soldiers we spent billions training and equipping to himself, and didn’t disburse them to the nation’s forces or expand the overall training. But what Schlepard Smith ISN’T saying is that this didn’t happen primarily because our swishy swish president couldn’t/wouldn’t negotiate a treaty that would have kept several thousand US troops in Iran to keep that training going. No, he got his little nose out of joint, and left the playground entirely. “I brought all the troops home from Iraq” was Obama’s big claim to fame 2 years ago. A touch short-sighted, don’t you think? Especially since dozens of experienced voices were telling him at the time that exactly this situation would occur? The whole place is a nest of scorpions; you can’t honestly expect one or two of them to suddenly turn into noble eagles overnight just because it makes it easier for Obama to sleep at night believing so.

And now it’s all going to Hell. Worse and worse every day. These ISIS psycho terrorists are now in control of the biggest dam in Iraq. And it’s a crappy dam that needs constant repairing. By people who know what they’re doing. Let’s hope ISIS hasn’t killed them all already because they belong to the wrong flavor of the same dam faith.

Not that ISIS would hesitate to blow up the dam and drown half a million people. What do they care? They crave death. They jizz their jammies on mass murder. The latest news tells of them beheading hundreds of children. Children. Beheading. With videos! Because they aren’t converting to the “proper” religion fast enough? Or it’s just a typical African style of terrorist behavior. Because here in America, more than half of us STILL don’t know what depraved animals terrorists really are. Oh noes, they’re those romantic freedom fighters, building roads and day care centers. Assholes.

So now tens of thousands of these Yazidi people will die. From starvation, exposure, and war crimes so heinous that the Nazis would have turned away in disgust.

And the US? Iraq’s staunchest ally, having spent 4,000 American lives and uncountable billions of dollars to wrest this backwards bunch of tribalist sand apes from primitivism and sectarian violence? YEAH RIGHT.

Well, now that it’s AUGUST, and ISIS has been on a killing frenzy since at least JANUARY, and has taken over at least a quarter of Iraq ... the US has sent in ONE JET and dropped TWO BOMBS on American artillery pieces in the hands of ISIS. Gee, that’ll solve everything. Oh, and we’ve also somehow managed to get a couple of helicopters full of water and food to the latest thousands of these refugees. But until a hour or so ago, officials in Washington were denying even this.

Meanwhile, the “conservative” American TV network has their leading anchor delivering a tirade and calling it news. Yes Sheppy, it’s darn frustrating. It sure does suck when American wins a war, sets up a false peace, and then goes home and slams the door, BEFORE killing all the enemies Over There, doesn’t it? Kind of reminds me of the Vietnam aftermath. After we won, after we had a treaty, after we went home, we lost the war. Huh??

No, I just couldn’t watch it any longer. False outrage to reinforce a delusion. Darn near any adult, or at least one not willfully wearing blinders during a deliberate recto-cranial inversion, could have called this more than 2 years ago. And they could have seen all this coming back in January. And realized that by March it was long past time to drop the pretense, stop playing golf and going to fundraisers, and make some action to support an ally. Whether asked for or not. But no. So at this point, it’s almost impossible for me to accept that the current situation isn’t exactly what our leaders want. WTH, they’ve done everything they could to make sure it happened. Because Obama had his widdle feewings hurt because he can’t negotiate for shit? Hell, we knew that years ago when he dropped the ball trying to get the friggin’ Olympics.

“We don’t understand evil”. Gosh, this wins the No Shit Award of the year I think.
The 2 Bomb Solution. PS - you suck, you dithering asshole.
You know things are bad when the US Army newpaper ponders ISIS’ unstoppability. Wow.
Is DC afraid of ISIS retribution? Why else would US denies air attack, aid drop. I mean, WTF, we’ve seen the video already. Get a grip people.

Oh, and the fighting is on again in Gaza. As you knew it would be. Cease fires? You’ve got to be kidding me. And, golly gee whiz, it looks like Hamas, with all their tunnels packed with bombs and anesthesia drugs, was only a couple weeks away from a gigantic genocidal attack, 20 times as big as our 9/11. On the little children in Israel. Well made, fully modern, high tech secret tunnels big enough to drive a truck through, pointed right at kindergartens and schools all over the West Bank. No doubts about it; a massive pogrom against Israeli children was planned. Kill them all Benji. Burn these fuckers down. Wipe their DNA off the map once and for all. Bulldoze Gaza into the sea and drown them all like the plague infected rats that they are.
