Late Night Thanks etc

It’s 4am.

It’s 4° out. Down here at the PC, it’s 67°.

Thank you New Jersey Central Power & Gas.

In Good Omens, the wonderful book he co-authored with Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett opines that the central focus of thousands of years of civilization has been to get as far away from nature as possible. On nights like this, I happily agree.

We took 5 out of 7 in Greed League tonight. We needed a sub, and some guy BJ just walked up to us and volunteered. He was pretty drunk, but he sure could bowl. First game he threw a 233. So we bought him a beer; second game he threw a 277. So we bought him another beer; third game he threw a 216. Good enough! We had a fun time, and we’ll call him again next time.

brrrr

We’re getting our piece of the “Polar Vortex” today. Where do they get these names from??

Anyway, it’s a whacking great 1°F out there this morning, with a nice steady 25 mph breeze going, giving us a mellow wind chill of something like ... 18 below. -18!

And the fun news is, that while the bright and sunny day warms us up to a basking 11° by later today, the wind speed will also increase, keeping us in the -10 to -20 zone all day. And then tonight, it gets cold again.

Crivens.

The good news is that we had a 36 hour break where it hit the low 40s with a bit of rain, so all the snow and ice and yech on the roads melted away and they dried clean. So driving is fine, as long as the wind doesn’t blow you off the road.

The not so good news is that the original forecast had us getting a one day “Jersey Blip” bit of Vortex and then bouncing right up to the upper 40s for a week. Um, not so much anymore. Our icy blip now is going to last until Thursday, although somehow the Weather Wienies are still calling for 55 on Saturday. Must be that Global Warming finally coming through. Woo hoo!!!

image

map from Drudge. we’re all in this together

The coldest, most dangerous blast of polar air in decades gripped the country on Tuesday, closing schools and day care centers, grounding flights and forcing people to pull their hoods and scarves tight to protect exposed skin from nearly instant frostbite.

Central Park in New York City broke a 118-year old record on Jan. 7 when the temperature dropped to 5 degrees.  Strong winds pushed the wind chill well below zero.  Central Park had a record low temp of 6° since 1896.  The Tuesday temperature was 50 degrees lower than was recorded on Monday.

...

Amtrak stopped running trains into New Jersey out of New York’s Penn Station on Tuesday morning because of signal problems caused by the cold weather.  The railroad didn’t have an estimate for a service resumption time.

Monday’s subzero temperatures broke records in Chicago, which set a record for the date at minus 16, and Fort Wayne, Ind., where the mercury fell to 13 below. Records also fell in Oklahoma and Texas, and wind chills across the region were 40 below and colder. Officials in states like Indiana already struggling with high winds and more than a foot of snow urged residents to stay home if they could.

“The cold is the real killer here,” Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said Monday as he asked schools and businesses to remain closed another day. “In 10 minutes you could be dead without the proper clothes.”

Highs in the single digits were expected in Georgia and Alabama, and wind chill warnings stretched as far south as Florida, with forecasts calling for minus 10 in Atlanta and minus 12 in Baltimore.

But wait, there’s more! Your snow could be radioactive

Readings taken from snow blanketing St. Louis, Missouri contains double the normal radiation amount, once again stoking concerns that the ongoing Fukushima crisis is now firmly impacting areas of America.

“The radiation return from the snow precipitation is returning DOUBLE the normal background amounts. Normal background in this area is approximately 30CPM,” writes YouTube user DutchSinse, alongside a video documenting the readings.

“This means small particles of radioactive material are indeed coming down in the precipitation. Past tests show around 30CPM in the same spot on a nice day with no precipitation,” he adds, noting that snowstorms in 2012 also showed alert level radiation readings.

SIMON SAYS, HOW IT’S GONNA BE FOR THE UK IN 2014.

This really is for some of those UK surfers passing by who may not have seen Heffer’s predictions yet.
And possibly ... should he have missed it .....  LyndonB .  Although I can’t imagine he did.

It is funny but .... it is also very much edited.  To read it as it was printed in the Mail,

Go Here > HEFFER PREDICTS

As is traditional at this time of year, Old Heffer brings out his trusty crystal ball.

If you thought our politicians’ behaviour in 2013 was beyond satire, read his predictions for next year…

Nick Clegg, David Cameron, and Ed Miliband pose for a ‘selfie’ in front of the Cenotaph on Armistice Day.

They claim it shows their ‘very modern sense of respect’ for the Glorious Dead.

Trending Left Today

I am having wonderful fun reading Camille Paglia today.

What a brilliant individual. Truly. Truly an individual, and truly brilliant. And chock full of facts, history, literature, and knowledge that help her form opinions that really throw some folks for a loop. Awesome.

tons of her essays at salon.com

a taste of her works:
Camille Paglia: A Feminist Defense of Masculine Virtues
Feminists Ignore Biology, Dissident Feminist Camille Paglia Argues
Camille Paglia: “It remains baffling how anyone would think that Hillary Clinton is our party’s best chance”

“dissident feminist”. I love it. Here’s her take on the Hildabeast:

As a registered Democrat, I am praying for a credible presidential candidate to emerge from the younger tier of politicians in their late 40s. A governor with executive experience would be ideal. It’s time to put my baby-boom generation out to pasture! We’ve had our day and managed to muck up a hell of a lot. It remains baffling how anyone would think that Hillary Clinton (born the same year as me) is our party’s best chance. She has more sooty baggage than a 90-car freight train. And what exactly has she ever accomplished — beyond bullishly covering for her philandering husband? She’s certainly busy, busy and ever on the move — with the tunnel-vision workaholism of someone trying to blot out uncomfortable private thoughts.

I for one think it was a very big deal that our ambassador was murdered in Benghazi. In saying “I take responsibility” for it as secretary of state, Hillary should have resigned immediately. The weak response by the Obama administration to that tragedy has given a huge opening to Republicans in the next presidential election. The impression has been amply given that Benghazi was treated as a public relations matter to massage rather than as the major and outrageous attack on the U.S. that it was.

Throughout history, ambassadors have always been symbolic incarnations of the sovereignty of their nations and the dignity of their leaders. It’s even a key motif in “King Lear.” As far as I’m concerned, Hillary disqualified herself for the presidency in that fist-pounding moment at a congressional hearing when she said, “What difference does it make what we knew and when we knew it, Senator?” Democrats have got to shake off the Clinton albatross and find new blood.

tighten belts at home …. cut some benefits …. then give billions away to foreign govts.

I happen to see a brief news item this morning of further cost cutting by the government.  The man in charge of this says it will be necessary, on top of cuts made already, to steer the ship of state to safer economic waters.  That last bit being my words as that’s pretty much what he meant.  So apparently it will be necessary to cut the free TV License to old folks over 75.  Doesn’t bother me any, no TV anyway.  A couple of other suggested as possible cuts will be free bus fare for seniors over 65, and winter fuel refunds. (no, not your whole bill. It’s a partial kick back from govt. We got £200 for example. You don’t apply for it, you just get it.)

However …. while I can understand the government needs to tighten the national belt somewhat, what I do not understand is the huge sums spent overseas on aid to foreign governments.

Like this one for example.
And boy oh boy what an example this is.  It is not a new story, in fact it’s a few months old, but nevertheless says a lot about the fiscal insanity taking place.

Take a look.

£1billion of your cash is being used to help Nigeria join the space race

· Oil-rich country has accepted £300million in aid this year alone
· Plans for Nigerian astronauts to join missions within next two years
· But 70 per cent of the country live below the poverty line of £1.29 a day
· Row ignited by UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom’s ‘Bongo Bongo land’ comments

By Jack Doyle, Home Affairs Correspondent
Daily Mail

Nigeria is spending millions to put a man into space – as Britain hands it more than £1billion in foreign aid.
The oil-rich country, which has accepted £300million this year alone, has set in train ambitious plans to launch its own rockets.
And the first Nigerian astronauts are being trained to join Russian, Chinese or American missions within the next two years.

Last night critics asked why Britain was, in effect, subsidising a space programme for a nation where 70 per cent of people live below the poverty line.

The £1.14billion Nigeria will receive over the five years of the Coalition is double the £500million set aside to prop up struggling accident and emergency departments at our own hospitals.
Backbench Tory MP Philip Davies said it was ‘totally unjustifiable and unaffordable’ for Britain to give this money to Nigeria, given the scale of its ‘grandiose’ space programme.
‘We cannot go around the world saying “don’t worry, we will feed your public for you while you waste your money on all sorts of other projects”,’ he said.

he tortured and killed and makes demands in prison, cos he can. system sucks!

Well hell … speaking of RIGHTS!  And these days, what else is there?

This fellow wants to wear a woman’s wig.  Hey, if he wants a wig, why the heck not?
Doesn’t he have a right to appear as stupid as any one of us? After all, there isn’t any law against looking or being stupid.

EXCEPT IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE

This particular piece of rotten filth, this scum good for nothing waste of space insists on a wig and more.  They always want more.  Why the hell authorities have their hands tied is beyond me.  Why the hell can’t people see that there are cases and there are people who are well beyond the pale and deserve no rights of any kind whatever.
Oh but this bastard wants a wig. And he wants to be, he says, a woman. And guess who will pick up the cost of that if allowed?

Men like this should locked in a cell if the death penalty isn’t used, and thrown a piece of raw meat once a week and a cup of water.
Look what this SOB and others did to the victim, and tell me he is entitled to rights just because he is seen in his human form.  It just makes the blood boil to think that the culture of the west has been so badly undermined by the left, may they all rot in hell with those they defend, that life forms like this are allowed to go on breathing and given considerations their victims never stood a chance of getting.

Take a look at this one, and tell me he doesn’t deserve the worst sort of treatment in return.

And oh btw … WTF is this? Some new age health disaster?

‘It is unclear whether the claimant has a diagnosis of [gender] dysphoria.

And like that faggot Bradley Manning, he gets to be called what he demands to be called.  In this case, for now anyway, he is no longer Craig.  No,no. It’s Kimberley.  And Bradley is even referred to as Chelsea in some papers here.  Why give these creeps the consideration?

Transgender killer who tortured and killed his wife gets legal aid for his fight to wear a WIG in prison after complaining that he looks like a ‘bald drag artiste’
· Craig Hudson said he wanted to change sex and protested that without a female wig he would look like a ‘bald drag artiste’

· Legal aid-funded claim leads to prison service review of transgender rights

By Steve Doughty

image

A murderer won taxpayer funding for a High Court case in which he demanded the right to wear a woman’s wig in jail.
Craig Hudson – who is serving a life sentence for torturing and killing his wife – said he wanted to change sex and protested that without a female wig he would look like a ‘bald drag artiste’.

The claim, paid for through legal aid, will result in a prison service review of the right of transgender prisoners to wear wigs and outsize women’s clothes.
In a ruling revealed yesterday, Judge Jeremy Richardson QC accepted the argument of governors at maximum security Frankland prison, Durham, who told the court wigs are banned because prisoners can use them as a disguise in escape attempts.

But the judge told prison officials: ‘Further work, I feel, needs to be done to see if the security risks may be mitigated.’
The judicial review brought by Hudson is understood to have cost taxpayers up to £10,000 = ( $16,406 ) in payments to a specialist firm of prison solicitors and a barrister.

Taxpayers also funded a barrister and other lawyers to represent the Ministry of Justice, and the expense of running the court, resulting in total costs of up to £30,000.  = $49,221.00

The case provoked a row at the Ministry of Justice, which runs the Legal Aid Agency, as Justice Secretary Chris Grayling is trying to cut legal aid waste and limit the number of spurious judicial review cases.

But he is now known officially as Kimberley Green and accused prison authorities of unlawful discrimination on transgender grounds. Hudson, 29, was a member of a ‘family from hell’ in Nottingham who imprisoned and tortured his 20-year-old wife, Rachel.

Mrs Hudson died after two years of daily beatings and abuse. Her body was wrapped in a carpet and dumped.

a fight for women’s rights ….  this time … the targets are train drivers and kiddie cartoon

Too often I see examples of people with too much free time, who have as their sole entertainment, the screwing up of the language and making up, a down thing and down, whatever else they want it to be.
When they have a break in this arduous schedule they look for people they can represent who have been wronged, even when they don’t know or believe they have been.  Here’s a perfect example of just how sexist our culture has become over time, even with feminism and human rights and civil rights being legislated to the degree that nowadays, almost anything anyone says to anyone else, may be taken in such a way as to suggest racism, ageism, sexism and anything old thing you can dream up.

Why aren’t there more female train drivers?  You people never give that any thought.  Do you?  Of course you don’t.
You’re probably uncaring about women’s issues and might be a misogynist.
Have you taken notice btw, of how often that last word pops up in our media, mouthed most often by ppl on the left?  All one has to do is disagree with some feminnazi on any issue and you are ipso facto, a misogynist.
Try living that one down.

So back to trains and drivers and women.  I have no idea of how many ladies there are who surf by this site, but would dearly love to know how many had as a lifelong dream, the idea of being a train driver.  Btw … there actually are a few.  And it matters greatly to a woman named Mary Creagh.
Ms Mary is quite put out that there are so few and even worse, the train driver industry, which is far smaller than the civil rights industry, hasn’t enough train drivers.  And whose fault is that?  Who must answer now to this outrage?  Why …..  this guy.

THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE
that’s who.  And he’s been at this nefarious deed for many years you bet.  That’s right!

H/T Intl. Business Times

Thomas the Tank Engine is Sexist, Says Labour MP Mary Creagh

image

Classic children’s show ‘to blame for lack of female train drivers in Britain’

By Dominic Gover

A Labour politician has launched an attack on the children’s classic Thomas the Tank Engine with a broadside against the TV show’s portrayal of “female” locomotives.
Mary Creagh blamed the programme, which is based on the series of stories and books written in the 1940s by Rev W Awdry and his son, for a lack of female train drivers in Britain.
Thomas and his steam-powered friends have being chugging around Sodor on television since 1982, but only one of the main cast of engines is female.
Creagh, who is shadow transport secretary, called “a national scandal” figures that revealed that only 4.2% of train drivers in the UK were women. She laid in to Thomas the Tank Engine for allegedly pumping out the wrong message to young girls.
According to Creagh, the female characters in the show are an “annoyance” that posed a hazard to other characters on the show.
She said: “In the Thomas the Tank Engine books there are almost no female engines. The only female characters are an annoyance, a nuisance and in some cases a danger to the functioning of the railway.
“There is a preponderance of men in the transport industry and I am very keen to unpack some of the myths that stop women from taking up what are often highly paid and highly skilled jobs.”
Creagh hailed changes made by the television industry to redress the balance of male to female characters with shows such as Underground Ernie, but insisted that more had to be done.
“There have been some changes. Underground Ernie is wonderful, and there are some female trains in that. But again it is called Underground Ernie, not Underground Rosie.”
A spokeswoman at Hit Entertainment, which owns the rights to Thomas the Tank Engine, said that creators were developing new female characters to bring to the show.

-30-

The problem if there really is one, is that overall, women have other interests generally.  Sure, there may be lots and lots of women who enjoy fishing and hunting.  But overall, it seems more males gravitate to those activities. So the numbers will be smaller among the female population.  But has anyone had their rights abused or ignored because maybe, and I don’t even know, there’s some kind of conspiracy among men to deny even more women the joys of fly and tackle and gun?  Is there a conspiracy of some kind to keep train drivers a club for men only?

Oh … btw.  Did you pay any particular attention to her line in which she says,

“but insisted that more had to be done.” Sure thing.  They (libtard left) always “insist” that more of their left wing all is equal agenda be met and always on their terms.  And just about every time, smarter people cave in to them.  Cos if not, then they are fascists, bigots, racists and misogynists and more.  Simply add an ism and it becomes an anti social and fascist thing or person.

on the verge of monstrosity

Tip of the iceberg: Splodeydope accident at Prague PLO Embassy
Shows Flagrant Abuse: Diplomatic Channels used for massive arms smuggling
All over Europe, perhaps the world. For at least a decade

Exploded safe was full of weapons even before new embassy was officially opened. Now in Prague, 70+ guns recovered from scene.

Gee, who’da thunk it? Jihadist scum ignoring the rules of civilized nations and using the West’s decency against itself. (I mean, gosh, it’s not like every mosque in SandLand isn’t full of arms, or that the Palis routinely use ambulances and children’s schoolbuses etc to ship arms around. Oh no, never!)

This post links to two other blogs who have done a superb job reporting this story. It’s their tale to tell; I’m merely spreading the word a bit. Hie thee hence and read things to your satisfaction.

[LAST WEEK] An explosion on the premises of the future Palestinian embassy in Prague-Suchdol killed Palestinian ambassador to the Czech Republic Jamal Al Jamal, 56, but Poice President Martin Červíček said this was not an act of terrorism.
...
A large, illegal weapons stockpile was found Thursday at the home of the Palestinian ambassador in Prague, Jamel al-Jamal, Czech media reported, a day after al-Jamal was killed in an explosion there

Respekt, a Czech weekly newspaper, reported that the arsenal was enough to arm a unit of ten men.

Czech police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulova confirmed that arms had been found in the ambassador’s residence, which is located within a newly constructed Palestinian diplomatic mission in the city.

Channel 2 News reported that the stockpile included heavy firearms, that it was held illegally, and that its existence had not been previously known to the Czech authorities.

Follow the link to the blog post for more.

[Sunday, Yesterday] Palestinians may have used the Czech Republic for weapons transit, former Czech chief-of-staff Jiri Sedivy has told server Aktualne.cz, reacting to the unregistered weapons the police uncovered at Palestine´s embassy in Prague where a safe explosion killed the ambassador on Wednesday. The safe exploded in the brand-new building that is to become the embassy´s new seat.
...

“Maybe the affair in question involves a well organised weapons and explosives distribution network, including the weapons´ further recipients,” said Sedivy, who now heads the security studies section at Prague´s CEVRO Institut university.
...

“I´m horrified. This is not only a blatant violation of diplomatic norms and habits but also of security rules related to keeping such an arsenal, that also implies the tragic death of ambassador Jamal al Jamal,” said Sedivy.

He said he is afraid that apart from Prague, similar arms arsenals may also be secretly kept at other Palestinian embassies in Europe and overseas.

“I my opinion this is very probable. The [Prague] blast, which occurred by sheer coincidence, may have uncovered something incredible...on the verge of monstrosity,” Sedivy said.

He said Palestinian representatives have “played theatre” within the investigation into the case so far.
...
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Czech anti-terrorism official pointed out the possibility that the Palestinian embassy in Prague served as a transit point to freely ship firearms to any of the 26 Schengen Area countries (European countries that do not have passport or immigration controls.)

Jamal al-Jamal’s death was originally explained away by his failure to properly disarm a lethally boobytrapped safe at the residence, a story certain pro-PLO papers were only too eager to swallow.

The arms cache recalled the discovery, in 2003, of an entire arsenal, including an anti-tank weapon, in the Iraqi embassy in Prague, intended for use attacking the offices of Radio Free Europe.

That last bit, added in by Pamela Geller over at Atlas Shrugs, is really telling. It shows that embassies in general, Prague in particular, and jihad supporting jizzlamic states have been using this channel for at least a decade now.

And the West goes right back to sleep. God forbid you “profile”, or treat these evil sand fleas like anything less than the Princes Of The Earth that they want you to believe they are.

You know what my solution is. No, not that one. The non-radioactive, smaller scale one. The one with bulldozers, bayonets, and box cars.

PS - blow me, UN. This is what happens when you give a bunch of terrorists nation-like status and recognition. They abuse it to further their murderous causes. Which we all knew all along they’d do. So STFU if you think we’re gonna buy the “Why my stars, I’m so surprised!” BS.

You Worthless SOB

Can’t blame Bush for this. Not one single bit. This is ALL Obama’s fault. Him, his failed policies, his naive Secretaries of State, his absurd Middle East stance, his anti-military stance, and his continued purge of the upper echelons of the branches of the military.  It’s all coming together, and what we’re now seeing in Fallujah and other parts of that rebuilt country is no accident. Expect similar results around the globe ... because, hey, at this point, what difference does it make?

Americans Who Fought in Fallujah Watch al Qaeda Make Comeback

So you have any idea how sickening this is to write?

Our President, the “Leader of the Free World”, allowed this to happen. If it isn’t his idea, his deliberate doing, then it’s at least his fault. Because he knew, and did nothing. The worthless shitmouth.

Inside the ancient city, just 43 miles from Baghdad, Iraqis are once again braced for a siege and say security has declined precipitously over the past year. On Thursday, Iraqi interior ministry officials declared that half of the city was occupied by a brutal wing of al Qaeda called the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

What little peace this city has seen in the past decade came at the expense of dozens of American Marines who fought al Qaeda-backed insurgents in two battles in 2004. They finally eliminated the al Qaeda forces in a house by house, alleyway by alleyway battle in which Marines had to contend with booby traps, roadside bombs and insurgents who fought with near suicidal determination.

“No one expected the level of ferocity we encountered in Fallujah,” said Maj. Charleston Malkemus, a member of the Marines’ First Batallion, the first division deployed to the city. “Insurgents and al Qaeda fighters flocked to the city and inserted themselves to take control, similar to what’s going on now.”

The second battle of Fallujah fought in the final months of 2004 was the greatest urban military operation involving U.S. troops since the battle for Hue City, Vietnam, in 1968.

By one estimate 36,000 of the city’s 50,000 homes in Fallujah were laid to waste. More than 2,000 insurgents are believed to have been killed in the fighting, as were nearly 100 American troops.

Al Qaeda was routed from the city, but they have returned in force according to officials, leaving some Americans to wonder whether too many died in vain.

“It was all for naught,” said Ross Ducati, a former Marine who fought in the second battle for the city and has since become an outspoken critic of U.S. intervention in Iraq. “Americans fought and died there—my friends died there—for the purposes of regime change and furthering business interests friendly to the Bush administration… [Now] Iraqis will die there to further the interests of [Prime Minister Nouri] al-Maliki’s government.”

I understand brother, and I really wish there was a higher purpose involved. It’s all pretty sickening.

The security situation in Iraq has deteriorated in the past year. According to the U.N., 7,818 people were killed in 2013, the highest number in years.

Much of the recent sectarian violence has taken place in Anbar province, where Fallujah is located. Prime Minister Maliki’s Shiite-controlled government has tried to contain the violence in the province, a majority Sunni region.

Against the backdrop of al Qaeda backed militias launching attacks on police statements and military bases, the government has also cracked down on peaceful Sunni protests and sit-ins and dismantled Sunni militias, including those unaffiliated with al Qaeda.

Right. The locals form militias because a) they feel their local safety is not ensured by the government, and b) their safety is not ensured by the government along tribal lines, and like the shithole that is Africa, the Near East will never get past tribalism and thus is damned to petty tyranny forever.

Yet somehow the wonderful, multi-partisan, democratic government that the USA installed there, and that the little mud people went out and purple fingered for, isn’t doing the job. Maybe it isn’t so representative after all. Or maybe, just like we said in 2006 or so, Iraq ( just like every other country in the Middle East, post Balfour, shouldn’t be forced to exist within the lines drawn by disinterested white guys on a map somewhere. The sandbox is primitive and tribal, and always will be. The people are primitive and tribal, and always will be. Barbaric too. So no real point wasting endless blood and treasure trying to force them into a 21st century mold; given the first time in forever opportunity to write up their own constitution a few years back, they insisted on putting shit in there straight out of the fuckwad quran. So not even the best of them can see past the 7th century. I’m sorry for the American lives lost there. I’m sorry for the dickless traitor’s pretend leadership that got us to this point.

Now, since we’ll never, ever, have the balls to nuke the fuck out of this urban asshole, can we at least lay a hexagonal star of MOABS down on it? Won’t be a helluva difference either way;

   *   *
*   *   *    =    “M*”
   *   *
1/2 mile diameter circle of destruction

  M*  M*
M*  M*  M*
  M*  M*
>= 1 1/2 mile diameter circle of destruction; equal to an atomic bomb but without any radiation

Maybe a star or 2 of them. We sort of saved the city once, then we rescued it at great cost. And now, years later, it’s fallen once more to the enemy. Probably because that’s what the locals really want.
So fry them. To ashes. Because we still owe the fuckers for that bridge. So Fallujah Delenda Est. Again. Fuck it, we tried. Twice.

And if we can’t save it, then let’s turn it into dust before giving it over to Al Qaida. WTF, they’d do the same for us if they could.

Kill them all. Every last one. Squashed into tomato soup by overpressure and then roasted to a jerky-like crisp. And every building turned to small pieces of rubble. Sodom, Gommorah, Fallujah. Redefining “smote” for the 21st century.

Wait. Any of that would only happen if we had a leader at the helm. A MAN in charge.

Sorry.  We’ve only got bawak “Is it time for another vacation yet?” Obongo at the helm.

Never mind.

This Is Getting Silly

I know an old lady who swallowed a goat,
Just opened her throat and swallowed a goat!
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don’t know why she swallowed the fly,
I guess she’ll die.

U.S. Sends Polar Star Icebreaker to Free Chinese Icebreaker

Sent to free Russian Ship stuck In Ice

That Shouldn’t Be There If Global Warming Was Even Slightly True,

That They Set Out To Prove

PS - It’s The Middle Of Freakin’ Summer Down There

image

And pretty soon the punchline will be “Flashlight? Hell, if we had a flashlight we could find my truck keys and drive home!”.

The United States Coast Guard is sending the Oregon-based icebreaker Polar Star south to the Antarctic to free a Russian research ship that got trapped in the ice, and also to free a Chinese icebreaker that got trapped in the ice while trying to free the Russian ship. An Australian icebreaker also was unable to help. The 399-feet long Polar Star can break ice that’s six feet deep, at a continuous rate of three knots.

The Russian ship MV Akademik Shokalskiy with 52 passengers was on a four-week expedition to follow the path taken a century ago by Australian explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.

One aim of the expedition was to track how quickly the Antarctic’s sea ice was disappearing because of global warming, but a blizzard and thick ice caused the expedition to be abandoned on Christmas eve, despite the fact that it’s the height of Summer in the Antarctic.

The Polar Star, which recently completed a three-year, $90 million overhaul, is responding to a request from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, the rescue-operations coordinator, the Coast Guard said today. The ship, 399 feet in length and able to continuously break 6 feet of ice at 3 knots, is specifically designed for open-water icebreaking, with a reinforced hull and special ice-breaking bow.
...
The Polar Star left Seattle in early December on a mission to break a channel through the sea ice of McMurdo Sound to resupply and refuel the U.S. Antarctic Program’s McMurdo Station on Ross Island.  The trip is the Polar Star’s first since 2006 for one of its primary missions, called “Operation Deep Freeze.”

So, from one pole to the other. Let’s not make the obvious wise-crack, that this now makes her the Bipolar Star.

Vietnam, With Sand?

Al Q Takes Fallujah

Iraqi Army Ineffective

Kerry Promises “Help” But “No Troops”

You simply can not give people freedom and expect them to value it.

[Friday] Al-Qaeda-linked force captures Fallujah amid rise in violence in Iraq

BEIRUT — A rejuvenated al-Qaeda-affiliated force asserted control over the western Iraqi city of Fallujah on Friday, raising its flag over government buildings and declaring an Islamic state in one of the most crucial areas that U.S. troops fought to pacify before withdrawing from Iraq two years ago.

The capture of Fallujah came amid an explosion of violence across the western desert province of Anbar in which local tribes, Iraqi security forces and al-Qaeda-affiliated militants have been fighting one another for days in a confusingly chaotic three-way war.

Elsewhere in the province, local tribal militias claimed they were gaining ground against the al-Qaeda militants who surged into urban areas from their desert strongholds this week after clashes erupted between local residents and the Iraqi security forces.

In Fallujah, where Marines fought the bloodiest battle of the Iraq war in 2004, the militants appeared to have the upper hand, underscoring the extent to which the Iraqi security forces have struggled to sustain the gains made by U.S. troops before they withdrew in December 2011.

The upheaval also affirmed the soaring capabilities of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the rebranded version of the al-Qaeda in Iraq organization that was formed a decade ago to confront U.S. troops and expanded into Syria last year while escalating its activities in Iraq. Roughly a third of the 4,486 U.S. troops killed in Iraq died in Anbar trying to defeat al-Qaeda in Iraq, nearly 100 of them in the November 2004 battle for control of Fallujah, the site of America’s bloodiest confrontation since the Vietnam War.

Events Friday suggested the fight may have been in vain.

At the moment, there is no presence of the Iraqi state in Fallujah,” said a local journalist who asked not to be named because he fears for his safety. “The police and the army have abandoned the city, al-Qaeda has taken down all the Iraqi flags and burned them, and it has raised its own flag on all the buildings.

Most residents of Fallujah do not support the al-Qaeda fighters, the journalist there said, but they also lack the means to oppose them, and they also oppose the Iraqi government.

“It is sad, because we are going back to the days of the past,” he said. “Everyone is remembering the battles of 2004 when the Marines came in, and now we are revisiting history.”

Sounds like latent tribalism to me, and a corrupt population steeped in pathos. So glad they learned to believe in freedom. In’challa; as God wills it. They can’t be bothered. But boy howdy, watch them piss and moan when it goes against them.

[Saturday] An ineffective and cowardly response

Iraqi army shells Falluja to try to dislodge Qaeda, tribes Iraqi troops trying to retake Anbar province from a mixture of Islamist and tribal foes battled al Qaeda fighters in Ramadi on Saturday after shelling the western region’s other main city, Falluja, overnight, tribal leaders and officials said.

At least eight people were killed and 30 were wounded in Falluja, and residents of both cities said the fighting had limited their access to food, and that they were running low on generator fuel.

Shops were sending food to mosques, and people were being asked through loudspeakers to go to collect it.

Falluja has been held since Monday by Sunni Muslim militants linked to al Qaeda and tribal fighters united in their opposition to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, in a serious challenge to the authority of his Shi’ite-led government in Anbar province.

Al Qaeda’s Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has been steadily tightening its grip in the Sunni-dominated desert province bordering Syria in recent months in a bid to create a Sunni Muslim state straddling the frontier.
...
The U.S. State Department said Washington was following the Anbar situation closely and was concerned about ISIL extending its authority in Syria as well as Iraq.

“Their barbarism against civilians of Ramadi and Falluja and against Iraqi Security Forces is on display for all to see,” State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said in a statement.

“We would note that a number of tribal leaders in Iraq have declared an open revolt against ISIL. We are working with the Iraqi government to support those tribes in every possible way.”

[Today]
Kerry: We’ll help Iraq but won’t send in troops

Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States will help the Iraqi government in its battle against al Qaeda-linked fighters in western Iraq, but stressed it won’t send troops.

...

“We are not, obviously, contemplating returning. We’re not contemplating putting boots on the ground. This is their fight, but we’re going to help them in their fight,” Kerry said, noting that the United States plans to be in “close contact with all of the Iraq political leaders” to determine how to help them.

This is the same way we “lost” the Vietnam War. We went home in victory there, with honor, having stopped the NV from taking over. And with a bright shiny peace treaty. Which the commies broke not long after we’d gone home. And then the Democrat dominated Legislature refused to honor that treaty, which called for us to come back and fight. And thus the war that was won on the ground was lost in Washington DC, by duplicitous asshats. I don’t know IF we have any treaty with Iraq, or WHAT it entails. But we spent nearly a decade rooting evil out of their sand patch, and did the best we could to give them a representative government and a rebuilt infrastructure. And it will probably all come to naught now, because ( hey, it’s Deja-Poo all over again! ) the Democrat dominated Executive has already cut our newly freed allies off at the knees. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory once again.

Your Tax Dollars At Work

I sometimes wish I had a category called Government Waste. It would be handy ...

Multi-Year Study:

Dogs Prefer To Poop On North-South Axis

A new study published in the journal Frontiers in Zoology finds that a wide range of canines preferred to “excrete with the body being aligned along the north-south axis” under “calm magnetic field conditions.” The nearly 37 breeds of dogs studied were found to completely avoid urination or defecation along an east-west direction.

The study is the first time that magnetic sensitivity was proven in dogs, although previous research has shown that many mammals “spontaneously align their body axis” with Earth’s magnetic field in a diverse range of behavioral contexts.

Examination of 70 dogs over two years – including 1,893 defecations and 5,582 urinations – revealed that dogs who were not leashed or influenced in movement were naturally inclined to relieve themselves in “axial orientation” with the earth’s magnetic field.

The study did not detail exactly why this phenomenon occurs: “It is still enigmatic why the dogs do align at all, whether they do it “consciously” (i.e., whether the magnetic field is sensorial perceived (the dogs “see”, “hear” or “smell” the compass direction or perceive it as a haptic stimulus) or whether its reception is controlled on the vegetative level (they “feel better/more comfortable or worse/less comfortable” in a certain direction).”

Although dogs are often influenced by their owner’s behavior to choose a spot of relief, the researchers note that the study was “truly blind,” and that observers were not biased in their choice of geomagnetic field variations.

Funny, we used to have a little dog that would go in almost any direction, as long as she could keep moving away from it as it happened. I can’t argue with her attitude; dog crap is pretty gross.

Cold Dose Of Reality

Detroit Police Chief: Fight Crime - Arm More Citizens

Detroit’s police chief has a solution to help drive down crime in one of the nation’s most dangerous cities: arm more citizens.

James Craig made the comments at a police press conference Thursday, when he announced a 7 percent drop in violent crime in 2013, The Detroit News reported. Although urban police typically favor gun control, Craig said his views evolved after working in Los Angeles and Maine, where concealed weapons permits are more easily obtained.

“I changed my orientation real quick,” Craig said. “Maine is one of the safest places in America. Clearly, suspects knew that good Americans were armed.”

Thursday’s comments echo statements Craig has made in the past, including those he made last month, when he said responsible citizens who carry concealed pistol licenses “translates into crime reduction.”

And this from a somewhat-black guy, guaranteed to be part of the Democrat political machine that runs Detroilet. Amazing. But what do you expect? They’ve tried everything else, and spent tons of your money on every hairball plan they could dream up. None of which worked. So now, at the very end of things, when the city is bankrupt and little more than a crater in the ground, suddenly the guy has a Come To Jesus moment. Great. On the one hand, super. On the other, fuck you. This kind of reminds me of how Time Magazine is suddenly in favor of deer hunting, and have just now notice how Obamacare is a crock.

At Thursday’s press conference, Craig announced that Detroit’s homicide rate last year was 47.5 per 100,000 residents, down from 55 the year before, the Detroit Free Press reported. Authorities added that there were 1,161 non-fatal shootings in the city, an 8 percent drop from 2012, along with decreases in aggravated assaults, robberies, sexual assaults, carjackings, burglaries and stolen vehicles. Larcenies rose, however.

Despite the drop, Detroit still recorded as many homicides as New York City – despite having a population that’s less than one-tenth the size of the Big Apple, the Free Press reported.
