Going lightly

This place we’re going has a washer and a dryer. And provides towels. And an ironing board.

So why do I need to bring 7 days worth of clothing? 3 days tops, maybe even 2. Hell, I’m gonna spend the week in my swimmies, right?

2 shorts, 2 jeans, 3 Ts, 2 decent polos. Sneaks, flip flops, sturdy sandals. 2 belts, 3 pairs socks, 4 underpants. Maybe my other swimsuit if I can find it.

Aside from cameras, snorkel mask, various lotions and remedies just in case, toiletries, and a spare pair of glasses, I could fit all that in a carry on.

Oh yeah, a hat. And a cap. And bug repellent.  And the latest Terry Pratchett book, which so far is very choppy and a sad thing to read, because his Alzheimer’s is obviously a lot worse.

OK, maybe a small flashlight if I can find it.

Right. That took ... 20 minutes, including getting the suitcases out in the garage. She’s been packing for more than a week. Best not to ask.

Neat Idea

One of those “easy living” or “damn, I should have thought of this” posts ... via Facebook ...

image

Put the cookie dough on the outside of no-stick muffin cups. Might have to butter them first just to be safe? When baked, you’ve got little bowls you can fill with ice cream or custard. Cool. Just take them off carefully. This might require a bit of experimentation to get the right dough thickness and crispness. It may also be BS, and the dough on the sides falls away when you bake them. Never tried it yet myself. I just saw the picture and I was all AH HA!!

Her face was fractured in 20 places but says her attacker isn’t a monster.

If we’ve read this sort of thing once, we’ve read it a thousand times.

Some brute beats the hell out of a woman, a girlfriend or a wife, puts her in hospital, sometimes she is near death itself, and she will defend her abuser.
“He really loves me and it’s MY FAULT.” How many times have we heard or read that.

So I just have to ask cos honest I don’t understand.

WHAT IS IT THAT IS SO WRONG WITH SOME WOMEN ?

What makes so many of them so blind? Why are they making excuses for guys who come so close to killing them?

However, Miss Callaghan, 28, insists Day ‘is not a monster’ and ‘didn’t mean’ to hurt her

In this case the woman is really tiny. Go to the link and look at the size of the brave ballsy bastard that hurt her.  He only weighs 264lbs and is 6’.
She: 84lbs and 4’10

Take a look at this ... photos and full story at the link as always.

This 4ft 10in mother was left ‘one blow from death’ when her 26-stone ex-boyfriend beat her so badly her face suffered 20 fractures. But she insists: ‘He is not a monster’

Helen Callaghan was beaten and throttled by Thomas Day in fit of jealousy

Her face was fractured in 20 places, including her cheeks, nose and eyes

Day pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and common assault

He also admitted affray and importing £1,000 of cannabis into the UK

He was jailed for nine years and four months at Manchester Crown Court

However, Miss Callaghan, 28, insists Day ‘is not a monster’ and ‘didn’t mean’ to hurt her

By Sophie Jane Evans

A mother whose face had to be rebuilt after she was battered by her jealous 26-stone ex-boyfriend has insisted he is not a monster.

Helen Callaghan - who is just 4ft 10in and weighs six stone - was beaten and throttled by Thomas Day after he found text messages on her phone from another man.

Her face was fractured in 20 places - including her cheeks, nose and eye sockets - and surgeons were forced to rely on old photographs to reconstruct it.

‘I was also told the type of injuries they found on me would normally be found on someone who was dead.
Jailed: Day, who is 26 stone and almost 6ft tall, has been jailed for nine years and four months

‘But I don’t think he meant to hurt me in the way he did. I don’t think he meant to kill me or break the bones that he broke’.

More to Teh Point

No sooner did I post that bit on Obama last night than my wife let me know how far behind the moment I was.

Yes, that was what was said yesterday. But in less than 24 hours ...

... the Republican majority House drew up a bill giving him that 1 year delay that seemed to be what he wanted. And then passed it. Fastest legislation ever!!

The House approved Republican legislation on Friday giving health insurers the option of extending plans through 2014 that would otherwise be canceled for not complying with Affordable Care Act standards.

The bill, approved 261-157, would also allow new customers to enroll in those plans. Thirty-nine Democrats crossed party lines and joined a nearly unanimous GOP caucus in voting for the measure proposed by Rep. Fred Upton, R-Michigan.

So lookie there: the GOP cooperating with El Residente on his signature  fumble  opus, trying to give him what he wanted when push has come to shove and the American people are taking a hurting.

But no.

It has little to no chance of clearing the Democratic-controlled Senate, however.

Say what? Isn’t this what their Lord and Master wanted? Um, no. What HE wanted was the law to be ignored by his say so. HE didn’t want a little Time Out rider added on to it. HE wanted to fix to go in based only his holy word and the televised waving of his magic wand.

The Senate Democrats however, WANT THE MONEY. All this was explained last night to me while I was trying to get us up to bowling league on time, so I was a bit more focused on not hitting the deer and keeping the car on the road. So I’m not 100% here but ...  maybe they’re just being contrary as usual, and will only support a bill that they author?

Not that it matters. Obama has sworn to veto the 1 year extension bill brought forth by the House, even if Harry Reid would even call the bill and the DNC majority Senate passed it. So a fix to make O’s illegal fix a bit legal is dead in the water. And the Dems seem to have 2 quite similar fixes of their own in the works, one of which pretty much seems to obviate Obamacare entirely?

The White House has already threatened to veto the legislation, and there’s certainly no guarantee that Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid would call it to the floor.

But Democrats are separately pursuing two additional pieces of legislation on the Senate side that—if they can convince Reid to consider them—could prove problematic for the president.

Both those bills go further than even the House bill.

One, from Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., would allow the old policies to be extended for another two years.

The other, from Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., would effectively allow an indefinite extension of those plans by grandfathering in all plans as late as Dec. 31, 2013.

Landrieu’s plan would make Obama’s promise REAL. “ If you like it you can keep it”, old policy, old amounts of coverage, old (one hopes) cost. And if the Dems hate that one too? Well, it just shows you their true intentions, doesn’t it?

Thank you Obama. Not only have you made a total fool of yourself and your world spanning hubris, you’ve put your political pal’s nuts in the wringer in the Legislature. Thrown them all under the bus. Because that’s what the Magic Negro does.

For a similar look at Obama’s latest ukase (decree from the Tsar, aka a holy decree from Caesar) see Jeff Anderson’s column at the Weekly Standard

… Apparently, the federal lawmaking authority has now moved to the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue.  ...

... By “the old law,” the White House official clearly didn’t mean the law at the time of Obamacare’s passage, because pre-Obamacare law didn’t tell insurers that they would have “to no longer offer” 2013 plans in 2014.  Rather, that’s what Obamacare requires—or, more exactly, what “old” (written, congressionally passed) Obamacare requires.  New Obamacare—which wasn’t passed by Congress but was simply decreed from the White House—now temporarily revokes that mandate (albeit only as it pertains to those who were already enrolled in such plans).

... This latest development offers a stark reminder, however, that Obamacare isn’t only an historic assault on Americans’ liberty, but also on the very notion of government of, by, and for the people.

Well yeah. That’s what the VRWC blogosphere was screaming about years ago. So loud that finally even the GOP heard us. And you (on the Left) weren’t listening.  You still aren’t. You’re only concerned that the Great Plan isn’t working. You still can’t see the tyranny within it.

brits tighten belts, austerity continues as govt. throws more cash at foreign aid

Recently, the Brit Prime Minister told his country that the austerity program will last quite a long time.  Things are looking up but we aren’t he says, out of the water just yet.

Well of course they aren’t out of the water yet, and of course the country will have to go steady with lady austerity.
Why?

Because it’s important that Britain spread the cash around and toss monies hither and yon and also, funds need to be found for an increase in the pay packet of politicians.  Forget that for now.

Money is also needed to fund this bit of out of country lunacy.  Heaven forbid more of it should be spent at home.  No, gotta give it away.

How you pay £4m to fund the Ethiopian Spice Girls: New aid storm over project that’s even ridiculed in African country

Yegna are a five-strong group that aim to empower women

Is part of a £30million scheme called Girl Hub that also operates in Nigeria

Have their own radio show but it only reaches half the population

Group given £3.8m by the UK Department for International Development

By Larisa Brown

Thirty million pounds guys. As we American always like to jest, in REAL money, that can only mean American dollars, that £30m
comes to $48,343,500.00 USD.

UK taxpayers have picked up a £4million bill to fund Ethiopia’s own Spice Girls.  ( $6,445,800.00 )

Yegna, a five-strong group, have launched a radio show and released a string of videos that aim to empower women in the African country.

But even Ethiopian critics of the project say the money is being wasted because the show reaches only a quarter of the population.

image

In Britain, the TaxPayers’ Alliance said the £10billion aid budget should not be squandered in this way.

Ethiopia has become one of the biggest recipients of British funds, despite being an autocratic one-party state. The new Yegna ‘entertainment brand’, established in April, is part of a £30million scheme called Girl Hub that also operates in Nigeria and Rwanda.

Nike has given 800,000 but of course, that’s a nice tax deduction.

Meanwhile ...  back at the ranch .... austerity is still the name of the game.  Tighten up those belts some more. The treasury needs cash.

a couple of foxes?  One is for sure.

I think this is a pretty good way to start the day. You know, anything for a laff.

Hey ... these guys actually get paid for this.

Anyway ... as you can plainly see and no disrespect to our glamorous and pretty movies star ... please notice the fox is still eye candy in the animal world, and no make up.  Angelina on the other hand has all kinds of support staff to help keep her pretty.
The fox is still, well, foxy without all that.

Yeah but, you could get bit trying to kiss one.  Or slapped silly by the other for trying. I read someplace she knows martial arts. ??

University of Cambridge research found an experiment to breed friendlier foxes suggests that an affable looking face is more desirable as it signifies sociable attitudes. It said that features seen in specially bred foxes, such as flat faces and smaller jaws, as well as a large space between the height of the cranium and face, are the same features that humans find beautiful.

I can’t see teh point

Obama’s “Fix” For ObamaCare: I’m Telling You To Break My Law

I haven’t written about our Chicago Black Jesus God-king ‘Teh Won’ Obongo’s self-defecating embarrassment in front of the teleprompter the other day.  What’s the point? You knew it was going to be utter stupidity, lies, and total wrong-headedness even before he got in front of the microphones. And he didn’t disappoint.

I mean, come on. When even Howlin’ Mad Howie Dean, the former chair of the DNC publicly questions the legality of his plan, the ... ahem ... the jig is up.

“I wonder if he has the legal authority to do this, since this was a congressional bill that set this up,” said Dean of Obama’s proposed fix.

And you just know that that’s code-speak for “what the *#%~ is this commie moron trying to do now??”. Because he isn’t the God-king. And really ... directing the government not to enforce a law ... that’s one of those high crimes and misdemeanors, isn’t it? Ya can’t do that. Ever.

And you - he - can’t rewrite the law on the fly. Actually, he can’t rewrite any law at all. That’s not his power, nor his purview. It’s not even slightly within the enumerated powers of the Executive Branch. That’s a job for the Legislature, period.

“We put a grandfather clause into the law, but it was insufficient,” the president said at the White House as he announced the new loophole he has created.

Under the new loophole, Mr. Obama will leave it up to state health insurance commissioners to decide which sub-standard plans can still be offered by insurance companies, and he has pledged that his administration won’t penalize them for still offering those plans even though they violate the Affordable Care Act. The extension will last only one year.

New loophole? No such banana. The only loophole he created is one made of hemp, just big enough for his own swelled head, when he told the nation that this was his plan. By his instruction, hundreds of insurance companies, tens of thousands of their employees, and millions of people are to break the law. The one that he hammered away at us every single day for the first two years he was in office, to the exclusion of pretty much everything else. The bill that had to be passed before it could be read. The bill that was both racist and nearly treasonous to object to in the slightest. The completely unconstitutional rape of the entire nation and the biggest federal power grab since the Civil War (maybe bigger), that could only be declared by getting the secret dirt on the Chief Justice and holding his nutz to the fire until he rolled over and reinterpreted the thing as something that it was sold as totally not being (a tax not a penalty). So let’s ignore it now? Dude, you are so fired.

Yes, Obama fumbled the ball. Just like he told us. But the ball he really fumbled was his past 5 years as pResident. Toe. Dull. Lew. Zer.

confusion, ridicule at state level
President Obama’s “fix” for the wave of insurance cancellation notices going out as a result of ObamaCare is creating mass confusion for state-level insurance commissioners and companies who are unclear how they would implement the change—if at all—at this late stage.

“For three years, state insurance regulators have been working to adapt to the Affordable Care Act in a way that best meets the needs of consumers in each state,” the National Association of Insurance Commissioners said in a statement. “It is unclear how, as a practical matter, the changes proposed ... by the president can be put into effect.”

No kidding. And I’m sure somehow, even though this is entirely his doing, that Obamacare is entirely his doing, that not one single Republican in the House or the Senate voted for it ... somehow it’s going to turn out to be Bush’s fault. And the GOP’s. What a shitwipe.

But there’s a catch with president’s proposed solution. The president is not proposing that the law be changed to allow all health insurance plans grandfathered into Obamacare’s eligibility requirements.

No, instead the White House is saying that it will use “enforcement discretion” to allow illegal health insurance plans to be able to still be sold. That is, the Obama administration will not enforce the penalty on individuals for not having eligible health insurance plans and they’ll allow the insurance companies to still sell so-called bad plans—plans they technically can’t sell under Obamacare.

“Under the White House’s approach, the Department of Health and Human Services will notify the nation’s state insurance commissioners that they have federal permission to allow consumers who already have such insurance policies to keep them through 2014,” reports the Washington Post.

He’ll also be forcing insurance companies to help advertise for Obamacare by letting customers know that there’s an Obamacare marketplace where they can purchase (or get subsidized) health care coverage.

Obama’s proposal is an extra-legal solution to a big problem for millions of Americans around the country.

“I don’t see within the law how they can do this administratively,” said Speaker John Boehner in a press conference on Capitol Hill. “No one can identify anything the president could do administratively to keep his pledge that would be both legal and effective.”

The proposed White House fix so that Obama can honor his commitment is also likely to create more problems and to further distrust the American people have for this administration, which makes law based on what it chooses to enforce while sidestepping the constitutional process that is in place.

Indeed, there’s another problem. As Texas senator Ted Cruz says, the president cannot fix an unfixable law. “We cannot ‘fix’ Obamacare. The damage has been done, as millions of Americans have already been made to pay higher premiums and lose their jobs, wages, and health care plans,” Cruz said today.

President Clinton famously dismissed Obama’s candidacy for president of the United States by saying, “Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I have ever seen.”

Dude. So. So. Wrong.

And if this is a fairy tale, it’s not the “happily ever after” kind. It’s the Frog and the Scorpion kind, at best. The kind that ends in tears, and in blood.

That’s what happens when you elect a pretender solely because of what he looks like.

Serves us right.

For the rest of us, those few who can actually think: you do see how rewriting or nullifying laws on the fly by executive fiat is pure tyranny, right? The acts of an Emperor, not those of a President? Impeach. Now. Torches, pitchforks. Etc.

I think I like writing about the mouse in our house more than this. Hmmm.

oooops, say muslim fighters after they find they have beheaded 1 of their own.

I’m thinking maybe I should have passed this one by, while assuming it first of all would not be new to you out there, and secondly it might be just another boring bad muzzie story. So on the off chance that many may not have read this, have a look at this.

I guess as long as they’re killing each other, no harm done.

Oh, off topic but of some note.

Afghanistan opium poppy cultivation at record high

Opium poppy cultivation in Afghanistan hits record high, UN report claims, with most of the rise in Helmand province, where British troops are about withdraw. The report says the increase was by 49%.

Other very important news the papers, well one that I saw, says that international diplomat and aging teen, Paul McCartney, yeah, that McCartney, has told President Putin that the oil rig protesters should be freed at once.
Talk about wine, women, song and money going to one’s head.  What a simpleton.
Those folks never thought that they would end up in Russian jails.
We can only hope they are NOT comfortable.  Actually, Mr. Putin should have old friends deal with the tree huggers. Permanently.

Other very important news.  (not)

Oprah Winfrey claims that Obama is being dissed because he is a black man.
She says he has received more abuse than any other president, and it’s all due to color.
I guess the name George W. Bush is forgotten then.

So now on to the next story.

Islamist terrorist shows ‘enemy’s’ decapitated head to baying crowd… unaware he has just killed fellow Syrian rebel

Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham severed the head of a fighter in Syria
Believed he was a pro-Assad soldier but turned out to be a fellow rebel
Group ‘misunderstood’ comments he made about Shia founding fathers

By Wills Robinson

In a sickening video posted on YouTube, soldiers from the Syrian-based group Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) were seen holding up the decapitated head of a soldier they believed was a supporter of President Bashar al-Assad.

But, after the footage was made public, the victim was recognised by an extremist as a fellow rebel fighter who had been wounded during a battle.

The militants have now asked for forgiveness.

The long view is to get a foothold in each Western country … the silent conquest

I ran across the video tonight and it certainly caught my interest.  Of course, there isn’t anything exactly new here.  Nothing we haven’t felt for a long time. As I watched and listened, I remembered the Tiger here at bmews had written something I saved. Must be a year ago. Almost.
So anyway .... I thought I’d borrow what he once posted as a comment, and use it as an intro to this video.

The long view is to get a foothold in each Western country, and lie to the host country’s citizens about Islam being peaceful.  They then work to get access to positions of power, while their people out-breed the host-country’s citizens.  As their population grows, they ratchet up the pressure from within until the society they invaded falls.

They’re becoming well entrenched in England, destroying the system from the inside using any means possible within the structure of the host country’s legal system (lawfare.) A system that favors socialism can be exploited quickly, by bankrupting the host country through benefits.

Where they feel they can get away with it, they break the law, threatening, assaulting, or even killing non-muslims.  Look at the Coptic Christians in Egypt, or Christians in other countries where Islam has taken power; it’s not a pretty picture.  Barbarity is common, often engaged in on a thinly trumped up pretence that has no basis in actual fact.

There is only so many “falling back” positions we can engage in.

This ends in one of two ways; submission to their Caliphate, or a serious pushback in a modern day sequel to the Crusades, which were a defensive pushback to Islam’s last major attempt to conquer the world.

Owl be seeing you: Adorable moment fluffy owlets take a peek at photographer outside their nest

Incredible pictures feature in National Geographic 2013 photo contest

By Daily Mail Reporter

image

This is the adorable moment three fluffy owlets spotted a photographer taking their picture - and tried to get a closer look.

Graham McGeorge had been visiting Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia for two months hoping to spot the young birds.

And one day after the trio’s parents headed out to try and catch food they heard him shuffling around nearby.

Mr McGeorge, who is originally from Scotland but is now living in Jacksonville, Florida, said: ‘It takes just over an hour to get to the swamp and I spent two months there on weekends and travelling up after work.

‘It’s extremely rare to see them because they nest within the trunk and any crevice in the tree is usually made by woodpeckers.

‘The adults are eight to ten inches tall and the owlets much smaller so unless you know where the nest is you won’t see them.

‘They are so elusive they hunt at night so you have to be pretty fortunate to be able to photograph them.

‘Usually people won’t see them until they go to start flying but both parents were away from nest so when they heard me they got really inquisitive.

‘I happily waited for a long time watching them poke their heads out every 30 or 40 minutes intervals. It was fascinating behaviour to be able to witness.’

... yeah, but does Uncle actually regret doing any of that? Or said that it’s a bad thing?  Well, there you go.

... and our erstwhile artist above fails to note that Pollard is one of our own, so his espionage is more akin to treason. It’s perhaps not so much who he gave info to, it’s that he took it and gave it out in the first place.

Picky picky

I may have the only mouse on the continent who doesn’t like peanut butter.

I put out two different live capture traps last night, both baited with good old Skippy. And ... nothing.

But the day before, he’d gone for the extra dark chocolate for the second night in a row.

Likes chocolate, hates peanut butter. Guess I shouldn’t name him Reese’s.

Unless he got out again? Sure, it’s possible. But it is nice and warm in here, though there’s more food outside I guess. Who knows.

I guess I’ll lay out a couple of Victor snap traps on the floor tonight, baited with chocolate. Or cheese, PB, and chocolate, the mousey tri-fecta.

It’s my last chance to catch him before we leave for vacation, so I’ll do what I’ve got to do.

thousand dollar knickers?  No way.

Out of the house all morning yesterday and only back late in day. So never touched this puter. Just too damn exhausted.
So.
Had company over this morning and once they left and I put together dinner, booted and had this pointed out to me.

Not a section of the paper easy to ignore and they run this sort of thing a lot.  Much of it may be okay nothing to get all blog excited about.
But this get my attention.  Wife saw it first and asked me if I thought I could ID just by site what I thought the undies might sell for.
Well, I never had to buy ladies garments especially these, and frankly I didn’t see anything I thought any sane women (and there might be a few males of that type) who would spend what I was told some of these cost. Yikes!
Why would any lady spend £700 on these skimpy things? That sum in American dollars would come to .... $1,124.00 I just refuse to believe that anyone would, altho I am aware that there are many that could.
A thousand bucks for a pair of knickers?  No way.

Oh but wait. These are not just any knickers. No, these are “designer” knickers. Really.

OK so .... I thought it would be fun to share it with you folks.

The cheapest set is £7, which in American dollars is $11.24.

See if you can pick out the least expensive pair and the ones that cost a grand.  I would bet you can’t and if you did it would only be a wild guess.

Click on the cat for the answers if you care, or if you only want to see the same pretty model in seven different pair of undies in much larger size photos.

So which glam undies cost £7 - and which cost £700? The results might surprise you...

As women invest more and more in designer underwear, does it really look any better than its bargain rivals?
We put it to the test

By India Sturgis

Beautiful lingerie can lift the mood as quickly as it can the bust. No wonder a recent survey revealed that 92 per cent of us feel more confident when we’re wearing a matching set of bra and briefs beneath our outer clothes.

But as women invest more and more in designer underwear - up to £450 a year on average ($ 723.650 ) - does posh underwear really look any better than its bargain rivals?

We hid the labels on nine pairs of matching underwear costing from £7 to £700, and asked model Tali Leggett (a dress size 10 and bust size 32D) to try them on for fit and shape, before fabric expert Mairwen Jones blind-tested them using a textiles microscope. The results might surprise you.

Gadzooks ! Women spend that much on underwear in a year?  Crivens. That just can not be correct.  $7 hundred? A year? Can’t be.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
