Put Up A Fence and Lock The Gate

Detroit Declares Bankruptcy

Detroit filed for the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history Thursday after steep population and tax base declines sent it tumbling toward insolvency.

The filing by a state-appointed emergency manager means that if the bankruptcy filing is approved, city assets could be liquidated to satisfy demands for payment.

Kevin Orr, a bankruptcy expert, was hired by the state in March to lead Detroit out of a fiscal free-fall, and made the filing Thursday in federal bankruptcy court.

“Only one feasible path offers a way out,” Gov. Rick Snyder said in a letter to Orr and state Treasurer Andy Dillon approving the bankruptcy. The letter was attached to the bankruptcy filing.

“The citizens of Detroit need and deserve a clear road out of the cycle of ever-decreasing services,” Snyder wrote. “The city’s creditors, as well as its many dedicated public servants, deserve to know what promises the city can and will keep. The only way to do those things is to radically restructure the city and allow it to reinvent itself without the burden of impossible obligations.”

Snyder had determined earlier this year that Detroit was in a financial emergency and without a plan to improve things. Snyder hired Orr in March, and he released a plan to restructure the city’s debt and obligations that would leave many creditors with much less than they are owed.

Orr was unable to convince a host of creditors, including the city’s union and pension boards, to take pennies on the dollar to help facilitate the city’s massive financial restructuring.

Detroit is $20 BILLION in debt and has more than 78,000 vacant housing units.

Oh, and a huge piece of the debt pie is from union driven government employee pensions. $3.5 Billion right there all by itself. Debtors are going to be lucky if they get pennies on the dollar.

Watch Camden, Baltimore, East St. Louis, and Birmingham follow suit, and Chicago in no more than a year or two. And Gary. And Newark. And so on. All once great cities, all terminally in debt, all decayed into crime riddled ghettos. All run into the ground by decades of Democrat “leadership” and nearly total White Flight.

Redder is Better

Watching the new “survivor” series Under The Dome, which features Rachelle Lafevre, last seen in those Twilight things. Love the curls. She looks much better as a red than as her usual blonde. Not that she looks bad as a blonde either. Not bad at all.

BREAKING NEWS:  one of the men accused of murdering Drummer Lee Rigby attacked in prison

Unfortunately it was only two teeth but lets hope this is a beginning.  The black bastard doesn’t deserve any consideration. If there were any real justice, he’d be dead himself, and by the same method he and his islamic friend took the life of that soldier.  But we should be happy at least for this small payback.
Lets all hope it just the start of more.

BREAKING NEWS: Woolwich murder suspect Michael Adebolajo ‘attacked in prison’

By Amanda Williams

Terror suspect Michael Adebolajo, one of the men accused of murdering Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich, is believed to have been attacked in prison.

Reports claim the 28-year-old, of Romford in Essex, was set upon at HMP Belmarsh in south east London yesterday.

Reports say he has had two teeth knocked out in the attack.

Suspect?  How is he a suspect?  There isn’t any suspicion. We all know what happened because he was happy to show it off.
Suspect my ass.
I suppose the wardens have to call him mister as well.

The Ministry of Justice has confirmed an investigation is underway but has refused to comment further.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: ‘The police are investigating an incident that took place at HMP Belmarsh on July 17.

‘It would be inappropriate to comment while the investigation was ongoing.’

Adebolajo is accused of hacking Fusilier Rigby to death together with Michael Adebowale, 22, near Woolwich Barracks in south east London on May 22.

Meh, plus making infinite tasks take only seconds

Sorry, not much from me right now. I’m trying to get a whole bunch of things done here, all sorts of stuff that got set aside when I was sick.

Interesting sort of news on that license plate scanning story. Once upon a time, when I was studying computers in college, in a brutally difficult course on algorithm analysis, I got introduced to Aleph Zero, the concept of countable infinity. Countable. Infinity. I know, right? Anyway, the concept applies to computer programs that are actual algorithms - which are defined as repetitive but finite processes - that would simply run until the end of time before they finished. And that’s my first thought about the license plate scanning story: given a few dozen million traffic cams or cop car mounted scanners, it would take forever to plot the movement history of all the tens of millions of cars in the USA.

But on second thought, I learned about old Aleph Zero when a red hot PC ran at around 66Mhz. 10x faster is 660Mhz. 100x faster is 6.6Ghz, about twice the speed of today’s best desktop machine. But while today’s PC is about 50 times faster, it also has up to 8 subprocessing units in it, and since this plate searching thing is pretty much a linear task, any one of those could handle the job for one license plate at a time. So figure that a good PC can do 400 times (50x8) the work that a machine from back then can do.  Still, Aleph Zero divided by 400 still equals Aleph Zero; that kind of power increase doesn’t make a dent in infinity. Scalar (4) times 2 orders of magnitude (10x10=100) isn’t much.

But if we move beyond the mundane world of personal computers, countable infinity starts to take a beating. The Chinese admit to having a supercomputer that churns data as fast as 338 MILLION modern PCs. Keyword: admit. Take a guess what they really have, and aren’t telling you. And do you think that our own NSA is far behind? Or more likely, far ahead and not saying a word? We already know about the phone call and email tapping stuff. And now folks have figured out that all those CCTV cameras can feed facial recognition software ... in real time. So, is keeping track of where everyone is in their cars at all times still a finite, countably infinite, effectively impossible task? Let’s take a fast look at the math.

Pull a number out of your hat, or whatever hypothetical guess storage device you use. Guess that the task of tracking all the cars every day would take about 100,000 years of computation on an old PC, each and every day. Now make a tiny assumption, that the NSA has supercomputers (how many? LOTS!) a decent step faster than the ChiComs admit theirs are. Call it 500 million times faster. 500,000,000 faster than today’s PC, which itself does 400 times as much work as the 66Mhz machine from 1993. Ignore that factor of 400 entirely for now. 500 million is a scalar of 5 followed by 100,000,000 - 9 orders of magnitude. So the 100,000 year task - which is 36,525,000 days including leap years gets divided by 500,000,000, and we get 0.07305 days, which is just 1 hour and 45 minutes. Now let’s factor in Modern PC against Old PC, so we divide 1.75 hours - 105 minutes - by 400. And the answer comes up 0.26298 minutes, or just under 16 seconds. Aleph Zero is dead: one of NSA’s supercomputers by itself can keep track of the whereabouts of every car in the USA just 16 seconds behind realtime. Well, given a nearly continuous data feed from all those scanners. If they check in any less often than that, say once every 30 seconds, then NSA can easily stay just one update behind, which is as close to realtime as anything other than a targeted missile strike will ever need. So be aware: it can be done.

Driving somewhere? There’s a gov’t record of that

Chances are, your local or state police departments have photographs of your car in their files, noting where you were driving on a particular day, even if you never did anything wrong.

Using automated scanners, law enforcement agencies across the country have amassed millions of digital records on the location and movement of every vehicle with a license plate, according to a study published Wednesday by the American Civil Liberties Union. Affixed to police cars, bridges or buildings, the scanners capture images of passing or parked vehicles and note their location, uploading that information into police databases. Departments keep the records for weeks or years, sometimes indefinitely.

As the technology becomes cheaper and more ubiquitous, and federal grants focus on aiding local terrorist detection, even small police agencies are able to deploy more sophisticated surveillance systems. While the Supreme Court ruled in 2012 that a judge’s approval is needed to track a car with GPS, networks of plate scanners allow police effectively to track a driver’s location, sometimes several times every day, with few legal restrictions. The ACLU says the scanners assemble what it calls a “single, high-resolution image of our lives.”

The license plate readers alert police to an automobile associated with an investigation, “but such instances account for a tiny fraction of license plate scans, and too many police departments are storing millions of records about innocent drivers,” the ACLU said.

“Private companies are also using license plate readers and sharing the information they collect with police with little or no oversight or privacy protections. A lack of regulation means that policies governing how long our location data is kept vary widely,” the ACLU said.

The civil liberties group is advocating legislation regulating the use of the technology.

The readers have been proliferating at “worrying speed” and are typically mounted on bridges, overpasses and patrol cars, the ACLU said.

The devices use high-speed cameras, and the software analyzes the photographs to retrieve the plate number, the group said.

The system then runs the data against “hot lists” of plate numbers and produces an instant alert when a match, or “hit,” registers, the group said. The hot lists include the National Crime Information Center file, which includes stolen cars and vehicles used in the commission of a crime.

“License plate readers would pose few civil liberties risks if they only checked plates against hot lists and these hot lists were implemented soundly. But these systems are configured to store the photograph, the license plate number, and the date, time, and location where all vehicles are seen — not just the data of vehicles that generate hits,” the ACLU report said.

The growing collection of data allows police to create “a single, high-resolution image of our lives,” and the constant monitoring “can chill the exercise of our cherished rights to free speech and association,” the group said.

The “good news” here is that without the computing power of the federal government, tracking all vehicles or even one of them goes right back to being an Aleph Zero algorithm. In other words, your local town or county will never be able to afford the cost of the top-end computers that have the power to do the job. Phew. Of course, the bad news part of that good news is that all it takes is your local po-po streaming the data to the feds. And my goodness, given both the nationalization and militarization of police departments across the country since 9/11, and all of those “walls” Jamie Gorlick spent so much time building coming crashing down thanks to the Patriot Act and other bits of Big Brother legislation ... you’d never ever think your local donut eaters would be passing along data like this. Not them, not ever!

Think again.

So, shouldn’t this pretty much put an instant end to crime? Between the drones and the CCTV and the NSA, wouldn’t the Forces Of Goodness pretty much be able to track anything and anyone and thus capture the bad guys right away? Well no. To do that, we need to have a CCTV camera on every corner, every quarter mile or so on every road.  And a whole army of citizens to target the analysis. Which would cost trillions. Which would cost $Aleph Zero dollars. But it’s for the chiiiildren, and think of how many jobs that would create or save!!!11!

elderly woman, 77, caught and exposed. accused of racial abuse of gypos.cops take her dna

I’m curious about something.  Why are ppl worried about or defensive over the term, racist?  It’s so overused anyway, and besides.  I don’t think it’s really all that a horrible thing.  I guess if I prefer my own kind because I have more in common, or dislike a certain group because they fit the stereotype, I am one. Big deal.  People are in such a hurry to make sure that nobody thinks they are one.  Anyway ... Here’s a case of same old same old.
A woman is accused of calling a gypo, a “dirty gypo.” Now she’s in court charged with race abuse.
Read the story here.  The filthy gyps have been on green belt land now for years. Another case of legal entanglement and breaks given to the dirty sods.
She denies saying that, but even if she did.  So freeking what?  And I couldn’t blame her considering the circumstances.

Oh btw.  Those travellers do know the law.  They may be shit as people but they do know the law. And they know damn well you do not just move onto green belt land as they have.  But they do this all the time.  This past week, they tried to move on to a Cricket patch.  For Americans think a sports field, like maybe a baseball field.  Imagine a large group of unwanted visitors moving into Dodger Stadium and digging it up and setting up house, and then telling you they have a right to that property.  Well that is pretty much what these vermin do.  Anyway, the Cricket team and supporters blocked access and set up a 24/7 watch and the dirty gypos finally had to leave.  So you see the problem with this sub species.

Former Sunday school teacher, 77, charged with racially abusing travellers camped on greenbelt land near her home

Josie Hampson says she will fight to clear her name after ‘humiliating’ ordeal in which she was fingerprinted and had her DNA taken by police
Case comes after a long-running feud between the community and a family of travellers who want to live near her home

By Daily Mail Reporter

A pensioner known for her community work will appear in court today charged with racially abusing travellers camping on green belt land.

Former Sunday school teacher Josie Hampson, 77, says she will fight to clear her name after a ‘humiliating’ ordeal in which she was fingerprinted and had her DNA taken by police.

The case comes after a long-running feud between the community and a family of travellers who want to live near Mrs Hampson’s home in Heath Charnock, near Chorley, Lancs.

The former school governor, a grandmother, is a local legend in her Lancashire hometown, where she has run a toy shop for six decades and has been recognised for her services to the area.

But she says she is ‘shocked’ and ‘sickened’ by the accusations and has vowed to fight charges at Preston magistrates’ court of racially aggravated harassment and using threatening words or behaviour.

She said: ‘I am not a racist, I never have been a racist, and certainly never will be.

‘I am a Christian and the words I have been accused of saying would never have even entered my head.’

She added: ‘I am struggling to cope and I am feeling unwell with the worry. I just can’t imagine how it has come to this.’

The pensioner was interviewed by police in April. She said: ‘I’ve had to give a statement, had my fingerprints taken and my DNA.

‘I refused to have a solicitor because I told them that I had done nothing wrong, but now I’ve had to employ a criminal solicitor which is going to cost more than £1,000.

The Linfoot family have been locked in a four-year battle to remain on green belt land near Mrs Hampson’s home.

Despite attempts to evict them, costing the taxpayer tens of thousands of pounds, they were this week given a two-year stay of execution while Chorley Council starts a full report into the needs of travellers in the area.

They are expected to be allowed to use the site temporarily in the meantime.

The row comes after players at nearby Hoghton Cricket Club formed a 24-hour barricade to force travellers off their pitch.

source

They have already been there four years. But now they can remain, “temporarily.” Is that a joke or what?  I think the Brits really stretch temporarily beyond what the word should mean. Or anyway, the way most folks might understand the term.  But time after time the vermin get breaks and usually cos everyone is soooooo afraid of getting caught in the racist net.
Ridiculous.

muslim youths loot train wreck and corpses as well as the living

Not in my wildest imaginings in the past would I have ever dreamed that Europe would fall into this morass.  Is there anywhere that is free of the cancer of migrating muslims?

We may loath him for the crimes and the mindless brutality, but Hitler once spoke of what happens to a superior culture that accepts and enables a sub culture to settle among them.  He said that it will always be the better culture that suffers and in the end will fall.  How did he know that in 1930?  I think he targeted and had the wrong culture in mind, but I also think he was correct about a sub or inferior culture infesting the west. And to him at that time, the west meant Europe.  I can see no good, no positive outcome for western civilization as long as muslims are allowed free reign, as they appear to have.  And that would also include others from eastern Europe like the Roma Gypsies.  They are a disease, and a fatal one at that.

I am a few days late with this (unavoidable) and must thank the blog site Blind Naked Islam for the story here.  And none of it will surprise any of you.

EUROPE: Muslim ‘youth’ mobs loot train wreck corpses in France, attack police in Germany
image

When you see a story about ‘youths’ anywhere in Europe now, it’s a good bet they are talking about young Muslim thugs, thieves, and general troublemakers.

This French news video provides a follow-up to yesterday’s post about the looting of injured people and corpses by Muslim ‘culture-enrichers’ after the wreck of a passenger train on Friday in Brétigny-Sur-Orge. There were too many witnesses to the robberies and the stoning of police, so the media couldn’t entirely ignore what happened. But, as you’ll see from this report, the reporters downplayed, minimized, explained away, and generally whitewashed the incident.

For three nights in a row there have been heavy Muslim riots in Hamburg-Altona. A mob attacked policemen on the first night and the next night, they burned cars and hurled stones. About 150 young Muslim rioters gathered Friday night, where they went from lighting firecrackers to torching cars.

In Karl Wolff Street a car was completely gutted. Another car was set on fire in Hospital Street, but was able to be extinguished. Some time later the tires of another car were burning. More than 100 police officers were out in force. They used pepper spray against the rioters. In response the mob hurled stones at the officers. A 21-year-old man was arrested.

The riots started on Thursday night when a group of youths blinded car drivers with a laser pointer. The police moved in – and suddenly saw a group of over 150 people moving towards them.

16 rioters were detained. There was an aggressive mood and the situation escalated. In the media, not much was said about the cultural background of the rioters, but in the photos and videos it can be seen: There are Muslims and women with headscarves. Also, the battle cry “Allahu Akbar” can be heard in the video.

Silent Sales

image

Don’t care what they’re selling here, I’ll take two. Don’t need half naked dancers, don’t need accordion music or baguettes.

Actually, Omroep is a universal PBS broadcast facility - TV, radio, and internet - in the southern province of North Brabant in the Netherlands. They’re big fans of gingers; I gather they help host the annual Roodharigendag (redhead day) in the town of Breda.

every one wants in on the act

As predicted, this story has NOT run its course yet.  Not by a long shot either.
The left is baying for gun owner blood and in this case it’s Zimmerman they are after.

I have read in the papers here, that the Justice Dept can bring civil right charges and the family could well sue on those grounds.
I don’t understand that but it has happened in the past.  If Justice is after this poor guy, he could well be a dead duck.

And please note.  The ever present Al Sharpton wants, A Day of Action.

Nothing like adding a bit of fuel to the future fire.

George Zimmerman trial: Reverend Al Sharpton calls for day of action as Trayvon Martin juror reveals doubts

Half of all-female jury ‘thought George Zimmerman was guilty but were talked out of it’
The Reverend Al Sharpton, the veteran civil rights leader, called for a “Justice for Trayvon National Day of Action” on Saturday and said protests had been planned in more than 100 cities across America.

Reverend Al Sharpton, along with clergy members from across the country, announced national Justice for Trayvon Day, a series of protests set for Saturday. This day of demonstrations follows the acquittal of Florida neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the death of unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin.

EVERYBODY WANTSTA GET INTA THEEACT

Now some blind has been singer who probably hasn’t played Florida anytime in the last year or three or more, and not that it matters since he wouldn’t be able to see any of anyway, plans to boycott the state until the state rescinds the stand your ground law.  Like it’s his business. He doesn’t live there anyway. But wait, he plans to boycott other places he can’t see as well.  And he has company.  Woo-hoo. I guess Florida is going to roll up its streets and go out of business cos all some folks whose first language is ebonics won’t play there.  Oh gee.

Stevie Wonder has declared he will not play any shows in Florida, following the verdict in the case of shot US teenager Trayvon Martin.

The Superstition star made his position clear during a gig in Quebec City on July 14, after George Zimmerman was acquitted of murdering Martin.
“I decided today that until the Stand Your Ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again,” he told the crowd.
“As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world.”
The 63-year-old added: “The truth is that - for those of you who’ve lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world - we can’t bring them back. What we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That’s what I know we can do.”
Stevie is the latest music star to lend his voice to Martin’s case.
Beyonce dedicated a moment’s silence to the teenager during a show in Nashville, while her husband Jay-Z made a reference during his closing Wireless set, saying: “Rest in peace, Trayvon Martin.”
During their performance, US hip-hop pioneers A Tribe Called Quest also called for change, with Q-Tip calling it a “miscarriage of justice”.

it took just one complaining sour faced prude on the left, some mindless lefty who i hope dies soon

Ya know there really is something S*** wrong with our world, when just ONE F****** complaint can get a commercial pulled off the internet.

It’s the old, women seen as sex objects.

As has been stated more than once here and most likely by me, that’s exactly what young women and girls are.  Come on.  How many straight guys do not see a pretty face and figure somewhere on their travels or while shopping someplace, and not look a second and third time.  And nourish a small wish or dream. Or don’t see her again in his dreams if she was striking enough.  And just how are we not to view them when the taste and dress styles of our times expose so much.

I am so tired of that old left wing militant girls as objects BS.  You can not deny human nature.  As stated previously,

“Chicks were born to give men fever, be it Fahrenheit or centigrade” Peggy Lee

Too much Va Va Voom? Renault advert featuring close-ups of burlesque dancers is banned by watchdog because it ‘treats women like sexual objects’

Supermini advert sees car surrounded by gyrating, scantily-clad women

By Ray Massey

The Advertising Standards Authority, who were alerted by just one complaint, has now banned the advert – which appears only on the internet – after rejecting the French car-maker’s contention that it was a parody of a typically French Moulin Rouge-style cabaret scene.

They ruled it was ‘sexually provocative’ and ‘objectified the dancers by portraying them as sexual objects’.

On these grounds they concluded it was ‘therefore likely to cause serious or widespread offence’ – even though it has been viewed 3.5million times on YouTube and received just one complaint.

JUST TOOK ONE

OH A BOWLING WE WILL GO, A BOWLING WE WILL GO, NOT THIS TIME

Since for once I am speechless and can think of nothing, and also since I have not yet had breakfast or even coffee, I leave this heartwarming article of family sport to your tender mercies. lol.

They’re not the only gays in the village!: Bowling alley chief hits back at lesbians who claim they were refused family ticket because of ‘discrimination’

Michelle Giddins and Gemma Lloyd claim they were discriminated against
They claim Palace Superbowl refused them a money - off ‘family deal’
But Palace Superbowl said they were refused service for ‘foul language’

By Neil Sears

A lesbian couple are threatening to sue for discrimination after being refused a family ticket to a bowling alley with their two sons.

Michelle Giddins and Gemma Lloyd, both 28, who have been together since February, say they and their boys were upset to be told that families were made up of a husband and wife and two children.

But the boss of the Palace Superbowl company hit back at Miss Giddins, saying: ‘She’s not the only gay in the village – she wasn’t refused a ticket because of her sexuality, but because of her foul language.’

He said the firm has gay directors and the manager of its other branch is gay.

The very modern dispute – which carries echoes of a damages claim last year won by a gay couple barred from a bed and breakfast – broke out at the Palace Superbowl in Orpington, Kent.

Miss Giddins and Miss Lloyd, who live together in nearby Bexley, were having a day out with their respective children from previous heterosexual relationships – Joshua, six, and Matthew, five.

The pair, who are planning to enter a civil partnership in August next year, said they asked for a family ticket at £15.50, because buying individual tickets for two adults and two children would have cost £18.70.

‘He said a husband and a wife and two children is a family – that made me mad. We had to prove we were a family so I showed the manager a picture of us which I had in my purse of us all together.

‘We are never going back. I did swear when I was there, but only because we were being discriminated against in front of the children. I’m now looking into whether I can take legal action.’

Purple Drank?

Interesting conjecture RE: Trayvon

Highly interesting also are those missing handful of minutes (doobie doobie do?), and the phone call that he was back home ... and then went out again?

Sorry, I never paid attention to any of this until after it was all over. Y’all’ve probably known this for months I’m sure.

PA Plays Voter ID Roulette

You know what I am just really fed up with? How every single state that tries to run something close to honest elections and comes up with a Voter ID law gets bunged up in the hue and cry of how unfair it is to minorities.

Really?

Why?

Do Black people turn to ash and disintegrate when you take their picture? Are they all wheelchair bound, missing their legs and feet, so that none of them can move about? Do none of them own cars, or know how to ride the bus? Or are they just unable to produce ID for this one thing, while every other activity in our - everyone’s, White, Black, Green, or Blue - lives requires photo ID. Horry Clap, they took my picture at the eye doctor’s office the other day “for my records”. WTF? But I went along with it, and I’m using it here as a simple case in point. Photo ID is ubiquitous here in the 21st Century.

I don’t want to say a word about EBT or SNAP or any other government handout program, all of which require photo ID. But good grief, if you have a driver’s license - or a County ID, the non-driver equivalent - then you have a photo ID. You belong to the Swim Club, you have a photo ID. And so on, right on up to the various firearms permits and IDs, most of which not only have a photograph but a fingerprint as well.

So why is it that this will be such a hardship for those poor poor mistreated minorities, most of whom probably have at least one photo ID already? That’s life in America these days, so suck it up. And it’s not like the damn Voter ID costs you money. Well, directly. Or that anyone has to pass a test. No Poll Taxes. None of that old Jim Crow crap exists anywhere anymore.

It’s pure bullshit, and I’m sick of it. PS - it ain’t “controversial” either. It’s simply how life is these days. For EVERYONE. Equality under the law and all that. Crivens, the gov is listening to your phone calls and scanning my keyboard while I type this, and probably selling my data to corporations and foreign spies. So nobody had better dare try to play the Privacy Card or the Intrusive Government card. That deck doesn’t even exist any longer.

Pennsylvania court hears arguments over controversial voter ID law

Opening arguments were held Monday in Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court over the state’s controversial requirement that all voters in this key swing state provide photo I.D. when voting.

The law has been in place for the last three elections but has not yet been enforced because of temporary injunctions.

The issue: does the existence of a voter I.D. law bar people from exercising their right to vote?

Voter I.D. is constitutional,” says Nils, Hagen-Frederiksen, press secretary for the Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of General Counsel.

“The trial is about the implementation,” he says. “Right now, in Pennsylvania, any eligible voter that needs an I.D. can get an I.D. free of charge.”

Supporters contend that voter I.D. will prevent voter fraud and ensure the integrity of the electoral process. But opponents charge that it will disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of people, especially minorities, who do not have a photo I.D., and that the measure was a Republican-led effort that was enacted for political reasons.

“This will disproportionately affect persons of color, Latinos, African-Americans and also certain populations. Our elderly really have a hard time getting I.D.,” says Pennsylvania Democratic State Representative Vanessa Lowery Brown, Chairwoman of the state’s Black Caucus.

Oh bite my wing-ding. Your elderly have more darn forms of ID than you do. Medicare, Medicaid, AARP, Denny’s Seniors Club, ID from the Veteran’s Administration, you name it. Plus the same licenses and credit cards that everyone else has. Library cards too. It’s a load of crap.

And yes, the measure was Republican led. For political purposes. The political purpose of trying to take the very first baby step towards honest and fair elections. Such a positively un-American racist idea!!

The state is confident that “the law will stand up in court,” and points out that people can get an I.D. at any one of 71 offices throughout the state. In some cases, people don’t even need to provide any documents…or any written proof of who they claim they are, such as a utility bill, to get one.

“You don’t have to show anything, all you have to do is show up,” says Hagen-Frederiksen.

OK, let me rephrase that. This is a bullshit Republican led effort. For pretending to try to take those first baby steps. No way. Sorry. Uh uh. PROVE you are who you say you are. PROVE you are a citizen. PROVE you have the right to vote (ie not a felon). THEN we’ll take your picture and give you a Voter ID card for free. But you’d better bring it to vote. And we’ll scan you against the III database to make sure you haven’t become a non-voting felon since the card was issued. Any Voter ID law that is so slack that it doesn’t even require proof of identity is a waste of time. And that kind of law is “racist” against ALL OF US. Regardless of color.

I am also well beyond fed up with the prejudice of lowered expectations - lowered so low that they rest in a deep groove cut into the ground - for “minorities”. Minorities my ass. No such thing. We’re all Americans together. Period. Baskin-Robbins comes in 57 flavors but it’s all ice cream. So shut that pie hole for good: let’s really become that post-racial society we heard so much about back in 2008 when electing a half-Black guy as President for every reason on earth OTHER than that he was half-Black (yeah right) ... no more race or ethnicity or gender or faith or sexual identity data on any form anywhere, and purge every data field of that information from every database everywhere in government. Set a 10 year moratorium on all that Affirmative Action silliness. Make every racially based exclusionary group illegal, from the Jewish Student Union on campus to the Senate’s Black Caucus to La Raza. And just start being people. Citizens. All equal. Yeah, like that will ever happen.

Here’s a totally racist (ie completely true) thought: thousands of minorities will be disenfranchised by this, or by any, Voter ID law. Because proper proof of identity will show that thousands and thousands of felons who no longer have the right to vote have been voting the whole time.

Buyer Beware

Oh noes, the cable TV bill was due yesterday! Quick like a bunny, I jump online, log in, and pay the bill. It was quite a bit more than last month’s bill, but I knew I was getting hit with a refundable surcharge for hanging on to the old cable box for too long. Hey, I’ve been sick ya know? And I had called to ask their guy to stop by and pick it up - which was an option their Send Us Our Stuff Back letter said I could do - but he never showed up. It’s not like he has a big route to cover; 85% of Union Township is right here in my double condo park, more than 500 units in a half square mile. So I see the cable guy and his truck going up and down our one main road every single day. He pretty much lives here. Whatever. I’m feeling better now, and I found the return shipping label, so I can just box up the old box and drop it off at the UPS store in town. But I digress.

The bill seemed high, but I paid it anyway. Then (stupid Drew) I went and looked at the actual bill. They charged me $30 to do an installation. On my self-installed new cable box. Sneaky bastiges! A quick and only moderately annoying call to Customer Service ("para Inglés, pulse uno") and that got remedied quickly. And I’ll get credit for the surcharge. But still ... if I hadn’t gone over every line of the bill, I never would have noticed this extra $30 fee hiding deep on page 3.

You gotta watch these companies like a hawk.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
