Armchair Bridge Hunting

Under The Dome, But Still On The Internet

If you’ve been watching the new CBS “lifeboat drama” Under The Dome as I have, you’ve seen dozens of scenes take place on and under an old white truss bridge somewhere on the edge of town. Leave it to Drew to hunt that bridge down posthaste.

image
scene cap: Deputy Esquivel confronts the Army and the media from her side of the invisible Dome barrier.

image
scene cap: Joe McAlister and Norrie Hill walking across the bridge. Of course I found a pic with a redhead in it!

Note the bridge’s laced verticals, the plate strengthened split diagonals, and the original open lattice guard rail. These are all earmarks of bridges built circa 1890-1920. This isn’t a pin-connected truss, it’s a riveted one, so that puts it towards the newer end of that date range. Call it about 1905-1920.

This is the Harry Forden Bridge in New Hanover County North Carolina, on the north side of the town of Wilmington. It’s also known as the North 6th Avenue Bridge, and it crosses over an abandoned rail line. It was built in 1911.

We have a match. Another TV bridge, successfully hunted.

Stick a fork in it, we’re done: red house, white house, teal house: match the houses in the screen caps at the top of this post with this snip from Bing Maps (34.24361, -77.94278). Perfect match.
image

That wasn’t too hard at all. Took me less than half an hour, compared with the 10 days it took me to find the bridge from House. I’m getting pretty good at this stuff I think.

minor miracle on the lanes

The stars must have been properly aligned for me at summer league last night. The weather was as well; it was 70° inside with 68% humidity. Finally, a summer’s night bowling where I wasn’t sweating constantly!

I stayed relaxed and concentrated, kept my head down and my shoulders open, and once I’d found a line that worked I kept with it the whole evening, bowling low and slow. I put the ball over my target spot almost every frame, maybe +/- a quarter of a board. And bowled the best series of my life, a 672. 248, 169 (drat those 10 pins!), 255. Loads of strikes, maybe 30 for the night? Yeah, closing another 2 or 3 frames would earned me that elusive 700 series I want so badly, but considering how poorly I’ve bowled this summer, this series should be good enough to win me one of those sweet 150 Over Average pins. Sweet. Oh wait, it’s a 140 Over pin? Sweeter - that’s a guarantee then. Always nice to get new decorations for the refrigerator!

image

Now if I can just remember to do the flip-to-the-right release on my spare ball, I can make more of those 10 pin corner spares. So a 700 ... maybe this year.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT:  FROM THE BRIT PRIME MINISTER TO THE WORLD. SERIOUSLY, NO GAG.

Often referred to as conservative lite by many although I can’t begin to know why, David ‘call me dave’ Cameron, the Prime Minister and party leader (for now anyway) has a plan for the whole world.

Mind you, his country is being islamified or soon will be but never mind. There are more important thing to worry about in these trying times where people kill just for the fun of it.

Boy, 9, staggers 100 yards home soaked in blood after knifeman goes on rampage in the park: Grandmother found stabbed to death nearby and girl, 8, flees screaming

*****

he sniggered as he knifed a teen to death just to “see what it’s like to kill someone” Killer Imran Hussain walked away laughing

*****

Just a couple of quick examples of some minor problems, and I’ve covered travellers/gypsies enough for the next month or two.

The really big news however isn’t tackling those little items that are more like the annoyance of nits. The real important stuff is this.  Get ready America. You’re part of the world too ya know. LOL!

OK then, I will leave you with something I just caught in another morning paper over coffee. I think this is on topic. Don’t you?

Drugs linked to soaring HIV rates among gay men

By Charles Cooper
HIV infections among gay men in London are soaring, with sexual health workers saying that a “chaotic and harmful” link between high-risk drug use and gay sex in the capital is fuelling the increase.

Latest figures from Public Health England show that the rate of infection in the capital leaped by more than 20 per cent in 2012. Charities have warned that the virus is once again one of the most serious public health crises in the UK today.

Ok, that’s done. Now I think it’s time for a short nap. Long drive, tired.

french mayor is quoted, hitler didn’t kill enough gypsies. but is that exactly what he said? Or …

Is it what the left and other bedwetting fellow travellers wanted to hear?

Our regulars here at bmews know I have said as much, and more than once.
With me, it is not a figure of speech or a statement to make a point.
I mean it sincerely.

The Germans spent too much time and resources going after the wrong group.

Had they only eliminated Europe’s cancer, and even with a lost war, there might be statues erected to them today.  I am of course referring once again to Gypsies.  A miserable, low life species who are no more than rats in human form.  First cousins to another sub species who bring hate down on their own heads but of course, those of us who despise them are all racists and wrong.  Well, I am a racist. They have that right.

This story is about the soon to be former mayor of a French town, who has said almost as much and damn well had reason to.  And for the record, there is a reason so many people do not feel kindly to this group of grasping, thieving SOBs.  It isn’t like they don’t bring it upon themselves on a daily basis.  They do.  But in a world where up is down, what else can we expect?

The headline in the Mail this morning read as follows.

FURY AS FRENCH MP TELLS GIPSIES:  HITLER DIDN’T KILL ENOUGH OF YOU.

Well now, the headline sure looks provocative but there’s a bit behind it as there always is.  The unfortunate part is, the MP now faces criminal charges because he is quoted as saying that, to a group of these lice.  Another newspaper reports he may be kicked out of his party.

Here’s what happened.

H/T Erica Ritz, The Blaze

Gilles Bourdouleix, a member of parliament and the mayor of the town of Cholet near Nantes, apparently had a confrontation with the Gypsies on Sunday when he visited a field where the group was illegally living in caravans.  He asked them to leave.

image

The Courrier de l’Ouest newspaper, which had a journalist at the scene, reported that some of the Gypsies made Nazi salutes at Bourdouleix and that he responded by saying: “Maybe Hitler didn’t kill enough of them.”

He also accused the gypsies of incest, according to the Telegraph, saying: “The other day, they called me a pedophile, even though half of their children are from fathers and grandfathers.”

The paper released a recording on its website in which lawmaker can be heard making the remarks.

But Bourdouleix told the French television station iTELE that he was merely repeating a statement the journalist who recorded the scene had made with regard to the Hitler comment. The lawmaker, who threatened to sue the paper, also said that if he meets the reporter, “I’d want to give him a couple of punches.”

France’s Interior Ministry said Tuesday that it has already asked prosecutors to investigate whether Bourdouleix could be sued for excusing crimes against humanity. “Nothing can justify, or excuse, that an elected representative of the republic dares such a reference to the worst barbarism of the 20th century,” the ministry said in a statement.

“I’m appalled,” said Socialist Party spokesman David Assouline. “That’s far beyond all limits, once again. … There are ideologies with which no compromise, no concession can be made, no indulgence from any politician can be possible. I hope – if it is confirmed that these words were said – that there will be legal proceedings,” Assouline said at a news conference.

source for unedited version

I find it appropriate that David ASSouline’s name begins with those three letters.
How fitting.

So now all those who are outraged and all those who fake it because they think they should feel that emotion, are not at all interested in just what it is that that those insects who infest so many countries in Europe do, that brings on so much hate.

And from our morning edition of the Dail Mail there is this excerpt.

Mr Bourdouleix, who represents a constituency in the Maine and Loire region of west France, was visiting an illegal Roma camp in the town of Cholet, where he is deputy mayor, when he made the incendiary comments.

Surrounded by armed police, Mr Bourdouleix was trying to persuade the new arrivals to move on.
But as he began to speak to community leaders, some of the Roma gypsies standing by began to make Nazi salutes in his direction.
Mr Bourdouleix was recorded by a local journalist saying: ‘Like what, Hitler didn’t kill enough’.

Challenged about his comment by some of the Roma men, Mr Bourdouleix said: ‘You compared me to Hitler, do you think that’s nice?’

Mr Bourdouleix denied any accusations of racism, saying his words were ‘totally skewed’ and that he intended to take legal action against Mr Leduc ‘and all the media outlets who repeat this false quote’.

Mr Bourdouleix said what he really said was: ‘If it was Hitler, he would have killed them all’.

French politicians from both Right and Left have launched an onslaught on Roma gypsies in recent years, destroying their camps and deporting them back to countries including Romania and Bulgaria.

Despite this, shanty towns regularly spring up around major cities such as Paris and Lyon.

full version here

Now just to hammer home the point of origin for so much hate filled oratory regarding these filthy, scummy, unwanted intruders who refuse to obey any law but their own , who invade and infest and occupy land illegally and abuse villagers who’ve lived peacefully until their unwanted arrival, creating havoc and filth in their wake, take a good look at this.  Speaks volumes.

Children given police escort to school after village goes into ‘lockdown’ when gypsies threatened parents and ‘attacked teachers’

· Around 15 caravans moved onto land in Pilning village, Gloucestershire

· Parents joined teachers and police to flank entrance and protect pupils

· Children kept home by parents ‘too frightened’ to drop them at school

By Tara Brady
Police had to stand guard outside a primary school after a group of travellers terrorised parents waiting to pick up their children.
Pupils leaving the school had to be shielded from stick-wielding itinerant youngsters waiting outside.
Problems started when around 15 caravans moved on to land near to St Peter’s Primary School in Pilning, Gloucestershire on Friday.

see all photos and read the rest of it at the source

And of course, all the folks who are impacted by what these slime do and resent it and hate the group(s) who cause so much trouble, are all racists. Bigots. Haters.
Well gosh. If they are, I wonder what made em that way.  Must be the water.

Talk about taking things too far. Actress Karen Gillan shaved her head for a role in the sci-fi pic “Guardians of the Galaxy” she’s doing. “I might have done something a little bit crazy” she told a crowd at a comic-con.

This is not what is meant by going smooth. OTOH, she’s only 25, so with luck it will grow back.

Practical Joke, NJ Highway Dept Style

I’m up here in NY for a couple days visiting relations.

I made great time getting here today lat morning until I hit a traffic jam up in Bergen County. From a steady 83mph, suddenly the Rt 287 highway traffic just came to a stop. 45 minutes and 4 miles later, I finally saw the “Right Lane Closed” signs. 2 miles and 10 minutes later, the cones are out for about 50 yards on a little bridge just south of Mahwah, with the flashing arrow sign going. And hundreds and hundreds of cars and trucks squeezing into the left lane.

Not a workman in sight. Not one truck, not one guy. Nor was there any visible reason for the lane closure. No mangled guardrail, no missing chunks of pavement. Nothing. No signs of fresh paint or any other work either. Somebody just shut down the lane, perhaps for the fun of it, and walked away.

By the time I crossed that spot, traffic was backed up for more than 20 miles behind me, impacting 2 other main highways in the northern part of the state. Easily a couple thousand drivers affected.

Guess the guy whose job it is to pick up the cones had today off.

Pretty good joke, ha ha.

11 year old accuses her mother of arranging her marriage for profit.

Found on the net. Where else?

She seems pretty articulate for an 11 year old.
What a culture huh?  Those folks won’t change, not now not ever.
Hope the kid has a chance now for a possible better life. She might but then,
who knows?

The video is at the link with translation.

‘Go ahead and marry me off - I’ll kill myself’: Escaped child bride, 11, explains why she ran away from home

· Nada al-Ahdal was saved from the forced engagement by her uncle
· He told her suitor that she ‘was no good for him and did not wear a veil’
· The practice of marrying young girls is widespread in Yemen
By Jill Reilly

In an interview with National Yemen, Nada accuses her mother of arranging the marriage for profit.
‘But I’m not an item for sale,’ she says.

‘I’m a human being and I would rather die than get married at this age.’
Nada, has an 18-year-old sister who has already been engaged many times.

Her parents accepted each new proposal and took a partial down payment for a bride price.

They would then postpone the marriage until the groom had accumulated enough money before ending the engagement and keeping the down payment.
Her uncle was horrified his young niece who lived with him, his son and his elderly mother was being married off.

He told NOW: ‘When I heard about the groom, I panicked. Nada was not even 11 years old; she was exactly 10 years and 3 months. I could not allow her to be married off and have her future destroyed, especially since her aunt was forced to marry at 13 and burnt herself.

Her parents were not happy the engagement was called off and demanded that Nada be returned home to them.
But following her return home, Nada disappeared after her parents tried to marry her off again against her will.

When her uncle found her again, he informed authorities and Nada was eventually allowed to return to live with her uncle, her father’s brother - she then posted the horrifying video online.

Egypt: Blame The Copts

What To Do? We Have No Joooos!

Another festival of hatred and murder in Egypt, courtesy of Obama’s best friends the Muslim Brotherhood. And while I really don’t know if there are any Jews in Egypt or not, I somehow don’t think there are enough of them to be any kind of political force. So in the old old game of blame anybody else we’ve got these rabid pisslamics having another fit of Endless Rage and using it to justify killings. It’s so tiring.

Islamic extremists reportedly attacking Egypt’s Christian community over Morsi ouster

The Muslim Brotherhood reportedly is attempting to blame Egypt’s Coptic Christian community for the recent ousting of President Mohammed Morsi and even resorting to violent tactics in an effort to gain back power.

Reports have surfaced out of Egypt that sectarian attacks against Copts by Islamic extremists are on the rise since Morsi was ousted July 3. Copts, who make up about 9% of Egypt’s population, have said they consistently have been targeted by Islamic radicals for campaigning against the Muslim Brotherhood-backed president.

“The Muslim Brotherhood’s regime caused a split in Egyptian unity on the basis of religious affiliations,” Nabil Abdel Fattah, political analyst and researcher for the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies said in a recent interview with Mid-East Christian news.

Presumed Islamist militants have launched attacks against security forces in the region since June 30, according to the newspaper. However, reports of acts of violence against Copts have surfaced ever since Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood took power last year.

In addition, over a dozen Christian churches were attacked and damaged and Coptic-owned businesses have been victims of vandalism.

In the city of Luxor, four people were killed recently and three others injured, along with the demolition of at least 23 Copt-owned homes.

Coptic leaders have reported that at least 200,000 Christians have fled the country since February 2011.

“The Muslim Brotherhood’s allegation that Coptic Christians in Egypt are in some way responsible for the coup that ousted former President Morsi reeks of ignorance and sectarian intolerance,” Jordan Sekulow, Executive Director of Washington, D.C.-based American Center for Law and Justice, told FoxNews.com.

“Such a claim attempts to divide Egyptians on religious lines and turn the delicate stability into a sectarian conflict.  Such a claim is not only factually inaccurate, but not even possible. One religious minority simply does not overthrow an Islamic government in a predominantly Muslim country.”

Sekulow adds that the Muslim Brotherhood does not does want to admit that it was Muslims--who comprise a majority of the population in Egypt—who led efforts to oust Morsi.

What Egypt needs is an 11th plague. Every member of the MB should mysteriously turn into a pillar of salt before dawn. Or a pile of ash or a puddle of goo. I’m not particular.
