My Three Hours Are Over

Ok, we had our allotted 3 hours of not-rain, so now it’s back to deluge time. Pouring, with what passes for a thunderstorm around here.
Lucky me I was able to lay down some bug spray outside and it had time to dry. Already seeing dead flies on the sidewalk. Sweet.

I gotta get me that IRS Diversity and Inclusion Specialist job ... $124K per year plus bennies, no experience needed. Easy enough. Find out what the population splits are, then halve the white folks and double the minorities. So if the population was W-60%, B-15%, H-10%, A-10%, O-5%, the new “inclusive” mix would be W-30%, B-30%, H-20%, A-10%, O-10%. What, the “A” folks are getting the shaft? Yeah, well welcome to the Tea Party; they get the shaft at all our colleges already. Then go “gender balanced”, exchanging M-F-M-F with F-F-T-M-F-F-T-M. After that it’s easy enough to build a race/gender grid, and all I have to do is check off the next box as each job becomes available. Doesn’t matter what skills they have or don’t have. As long as they’re all ideological leftists, I’ll just crank out the “proper” ethnic mix, and all will be perfect. That’s diversity and inclusivity, right? Paycheck please!

I almost always avoid the Hollywood gossip stuff, but here’s a snap of Miley Cyrus pumping gas at a Mobil station. Damn grrrrl, nice legs!

This didn’t take long ...

A man on trial for an armed bank truck robbery is trying to get the National Security Agency to hand over his phone records to help clear his name.

Terrance Brown is accused of masterminding the robbery which left an armored car messenger dead in October 2010.

Prosecutors have used phone records to show that four other gang members were in the area at the time of the crime in South Florida.

But they say they are missing a month of Brown’s records from two phones because his service provider at the time, MetroPCS, no longer has them.

Brown’s attorney Marshall Dore Louis has filed court paper saying that the Justice Department is required to turn over the phone records if they exist because they could be crucial to his client’s defense.

Saves me Obama, saves me!!

THE WORLD AT WAR?

Meanwhile, while Britain braces itself while flushing itself, the Germans are busy with the further erosion of their culture and country. They are going to give (start the laff meter) “Temporary” homes to some 5,000 Syrian refugees.  The Germans, again masters of Europe in a financial sense this time, are going to find a way to resettle some of the reported two million Syrians who have fled the war in their country.  A war in which the UK and now Obama insists on getting involved in.  It’s for the civilians you know, and the rumor, most likely made up by his enemies, that the Assad govt. has used chemical weapons, gives Mr.O. the excuse he has been eagerly looking and praying for. It has not dawned on these deadheads yet, that when those folks kill each other, that’s good for our side.  We should encourage that.

Drew beat me to this I was so busy putting together my last post. So I need say no more on the subject of Syria.  Anyway, Drew says what I think better than I think it or say it.  So I will simply share this with you.

I would like to strongly urge you all to please read the link here. This is a large article with much more than I can post here.  It details much of interest for us, especially now that Obama has chosen his side.  Read it!!!

READ IT ALL HERE

Could Syria ignite World War 3? That’s the terrifying question as the hatred between two Muslim ideologies sucks in the world’s superpowers

Syrian conflict could engulf region in struggle between Sunni and Shia
Already claimed 93,000 lives and made 1.6million people refugees
UK, France and U.S. taken different side to China and Russia

By Michael Burleigh

Today, in Syria and across the Middle East, the divide is a gulf in which theology plays an important role.

The main pillars of the current Assad regime are the army, the intelligence services and the Ba’athists, the local version of the national party Saddam Hussein led in Iraq.

Assad’s backbone is stiffened by the influence of his mother and uncles, who want to crush the Syrian rebels.

Many wealthy businessmen in the capital Damascus also support the Assads, as do Christians who fear the rapid establishment of an Islamist state if he falls.

At the heart of the Syrian regime are members of Assad’s Alawite sect, who make up 12 per cent of the population, yet represent 80  per cent of army officers and 90  per cent of generals.

There is also an Alawite militia called the shabbiha that specialises in murdering opponents.

Christians make up 10 per cent of the Syrian population, while another 10 per cent are Kurds, who are Sunnis and present in much larger numbers in Turkey, Iran and Iraq, too.

The above quote re. Obama not keen to involve the USA, was obviously written before his decision to stick our nose in that cesspool.

No no no no no!

White House Plans To Arm Syrian Rebels

Wrong! Wrong!! Heavens to St. Pancake, those rebels are directly aligned with Al Qaeda! Our DECLARED ENEMY. How can arming them be anything other than TREASON???

As the White House appeared poised to send military aid to Syrian rebels, new concerns arose that the weapons will inevitably fall into the hands of terrorist groups who count themselves among hundreds of factions that form the rag-tag Free Syrian Army.

President Obama, seeking to stem a bloody civil war that has now claimed more than 92,000 lives, has authorized food and medicine for the rebels seeking to oust President Bashar Assad, but had stopped short of military aid. But with U.S. officials confirming Assad’s use of chemical weapons against civilians - crossing Obama’s “red line” - the White House strongly indicated that weapons are on the way.

“The president has made the decision to authorize additional assistance, but we’re not going into specifics,” National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan told FoxNews.com Friday. “The president has been very clear that all options are on the table, with the exception of U.S. troops on the ground. That is not a possibility.”

Initial military aid is expected to consist of small arms and ammunition. That could include a range of weapons, including small arms, assault rifles, shoulder-fired rocket-propelled grenades and other anti-tank missiles which the opposition forces could operate without significant training. But the rebel Free Syrian Army, which now gets light arms from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, said on Friday more light weaponry from the U.S. would be largely “meaningless.” The Syrian Opposition Coalition called for “strategic and decisive” support.

No, it would not be meaningless, but in a broader context. The meaning is that Obama would drag us into HIS SECOND WAR in the Middle East, again backing the wrong side. He did his best to LOSE Iraq, and his mirror image worldview/natural incompetence has screwed up the Afghanistan campaign to no end other than “throw up your hands and go home”. But his actions (along with the EU’s) in Libya led directly to the overthrow in Egypt and the A-Q driven civil war in Mali. And where is Libya today? Is it an open minded peace-love-and-granola-Kumbayah-commune? Hell no. And Egypt? Muslim Brotherhood all the way. Terrorists. The ones who just yesterday were talking about declaring war on their enemies Israel and the USA. Way to go knucklehead.

Arm the Syrian rebels and Syria will declare war on US. Just what we need. And every jihadi hothead in the world will have a fresh excuse to go on a killing rampage.

Stay out of it. Don’t even try to have your puppets sneak things in in the dark. Let Syria burn, because we win either way. Sorry, but that’s the truth. Get involved directly, and we lose either way.

Blowbama gets it wrong, every time. Couldn’t even score the Olympics. This guy is 0 for 10 or worse. Bad. Worse. By design. Whatever he wants is ALWAYS wrong for America. On purpose.

USA! go away!: stay out of Syria. Mind your own business.

PS - Yes, he backed himself into a corner with his “red line” bullshit. So what? He’s got the world’s best spin doctors working for him, and the media is still joyfully on its knees. I’m certain they can spin some nonsense that will let him walk away from this “with dignity”. Like he ever had any to begin with. Not.

Britain braces itself while flushing itself’

I don’t generally post the entire story, but there are times like now when I feel compelled to share the whole darn thing.

Littlejohn happens to be one of my very favorites.  He never pulls any punches. Matter of fact, very few columnists here do.

Anyway, this really is a problem and one that is guaranteed in stone and blood to not just continue, but get worse as the country is sold straight down the proverbial river.  Anyone who thinks it isn’t, is wearing blinders.

Just a couple of the photos (2 of much more) will give you some idea of what is happening here.  This is the direct result of left wing thinking and politics and a tie to the EU.

WHO VOTED FOR A SHANTY TOWN IN HENDON?

If you think pictures of Eastern Europeans camped out in slums in British towns will put off future immigrants, think again

By Richard Littlejohn

Back in January, the Government launched an expensive advertising campaign to discourage Romanians and Bulgarians from moving to Britain.

The thrust of the deterrent was that the climate in this country is much wetter and colder than they might expect.

I can remember writing at the time that it would take more than an adverse weather forecast to put them off.

So it has proven. Although it hasn’t stopped raining this year, immigrants from the two Eastern European countries have been arriving in droves.

The inclement weather doesn’t seem to bother them in the slightest. In Central London they are quite happy to camp out in the streets and in Hyde Park.

Another group has set up a Desmond Dekker-style shanty town on the former Hendon FC ground, a few miles to the north west.

image

Now we learn that a group of Eastern Europeans has moved into a network of caves in a cliff above the River Mersey outside Stockport.

All this before border controls are officially lifted in the New Year and 26 million Romanians and Bulgarians are given the right to settle in Britain.

Not that we should fear a mass influx. Goodness me, no. Perish the thought.

We are assured that only a few dozen, a couple of hundred at most, will take advantage of the opportunity to move here.

Those that do come will add to the rich diversity of our nation and bring with them a wide variety of high-value skills, such as computer sciences and brain surgery.

Only last week, no less an authority than the Speaker of the House of Commons was telling the Romanians that they will be welcomed with open arms, since they have a far superior work ethic to the bone-idle British.

If we could be confident that the new arrivals will contribute as much to our economy as some of their Eastern European neighbours, such as the Poles, we would have nothing to worry about.

And, yes, there is already a thriving, hard-working, law-abiding Romanian community in Britain. Unfortunately, the evidence so far would suggest not all of the new wave are planning to set themselves up in business as self-employed plumbers and electricians or open private health clinics.

Look, the kind of people who are prepared to travel across Europe to sleep in cardboard boxes on Park Lane or live in a filthy, rat-infested shanty town in a London suburb are clearly desperate.

Conditions must be pretty dreadful at home if a cave in Stockport is a step up the housing ladder.

But, I’m sorry, it’s not our fault, it’s not our responsibility and it shouldn’t be our problem. I can see what’s in it for the Romanians and Bulgarians, but what’s in it for us?

We are told many of those who have come to Britain, especially Roma gypsies, have suffered harassment at home. Ever thought there might be a reason for that?

Far from bringing vital skills, the Park Lane squatters have been linked to pick-pocketing, aggressive begging and scamming tourists.

Why should shopkeepers, who pay a king’s ransom in business rates, have to put up with itinerant Romanians sleeping in their doorways and using public spaces as a toilet?

Why should the hard-pressed police be forced to fight a daily war of attrition against a foreign criminal underclass which shouldn’t be here in the first place? What other capital city would allow a world-class park and tourist attraction to be turned into a transit camp? Precisely.

image

Yet raise any of these questions and prepare to be howled down as ‘racist’. One dwindling Left-wing rag ran a whole, hand-wringing page about the cave-dwellers of Stockport without ever mentioning who they were or how they got there.

They were simply described as ‘homeless’. No mention of the fact that they were from Estonia, Romania and other Eastern European states. We are all guilty.

No we’re not. The politicians are guilty. So are the smug, self-regarding Leftist bigots who have done all they can to shut down honest debate about migration.

They have consistently lied and obfuscated, stressing the benefits of open borders but ignoring the downside.

When the initial Eastern European ‘accession’ countries were admitted to the EU, we were told that only 13,000 people would come to Britain. In the event, at least a million arrived, maybe more. Nobody knows.

Successive governments have sold the pass on immigration to prove they are ‘good Europeans’. The only way we can limit numbers is if we pull out of the EU altogether.

And no one, apart from UKIP, is offering that. Can you imagine if any of the major parties had campaigned in Hendon on a promise to turn the local football ground into an insanitary Romanian version of Soweto on a bad night? They’d have lost their deposit.

As for the idea that a negative advertising campaign will deter anyone from moving to Britain, think again. You might have thought that the pictures of the makeshift slum in Hendon, which will have been published in Eastern Europe, would cause some would-be immigrants to rethink their plans. Far from it.

A colleague who lives in Hendon near the ground saw about 30 Romanian men arriving only this week, complete with suitcases and baby buggies. Presumably, more will follow.

No doubt there are others back home who have already put their name down for a cave in Stockport.

Of course, they won’t be there for ever. If they can stick it out until next summer they will be entitled to full British welfare benefits, which means a council house as a basis for negotiation.

Who can blame them? The weather might have picked up by then, too.

A Polish cleaner has been jailed for 21 months after a judge rejected his claims that his sheltered cultural background was to blame for three sex attacks on complete strangers.

Szczepan Majcherczyk’s defence counsel told Exeter Crown Court that his client’s ‘inappropriate cultural values from his childhood in rural Poland’ caused him to pinch the bottoms of three women.
Judge Francis Gilbert utterly dismissed this explanation and said: ‘If it was up to me, I would deport you.’ Quite right, too. But hang on a minute.

Earlier this year at Nottingham Crown Court, a Muslim who raped a 13-year-old girl he groomed on Facebook was spared jail after a judge heard he went to an Islamic faith school where he was taught women are worthless.

Adil Rashid, 18, said he was unaware that it was illegal to have sex with an under-age girl because his education left him ignorant of British law. It seems some cultures are more equal than others.

DID ANYONE VOTE FOR THIS?

the mau mau were what?  It’s official. They were Freedom Fighters. Not in a sane world tho.

Foreign Secretary William Hague has announced a £19.9 million compensation settlement for Kenyans tortured during the Mau Mau uprising in the 1950s. He said the “British Government recognises that Kenyans were subject to torture” and “sincerely regrets that these abuses took place”.

$29,842,038.10 USD , or 21 plus million depending on what newspaper you are reading.

One of the savages has had this to say.

“It is not quite enough because of the punishment we had”

Kenyans tortured by British colonial forces during the Mau Mau uprising will receive payouts totalling £20m, Foreign Secretary William Hague has announced.
He said the UK government recognised Kenyans were tortured and it “sincerely regrets” the abuses that took place.

A lawyer for the victims said they “at last have the recognition and justice they have sought for many years”.
Thousands of people were killed during the Mau Mau revolt against British rule in Kenya in the 1950s.

Mr Hague also announced plans to support the construction of a permanent memorial to the victims in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

Might that include the white civilian victims as well?
Hmm. Right. Didn’t think so.

Wambuga Wa Nyingi, 85, detailed his torture at the hands of the British colonial authorities in a witness statement.
He was a tractor driver and member of the pro-independence Kenya African Union - but never took the Mau Mau oath.
He survived the Hola massacre in 1959, when 11 Kenyans were beaten to death by prison guards in a detention camp.

He said: “I was battered on the back of my head and around my neck repeatedly with a club. I believe that the beating went on for up to 20 minutes…
“I lay unconscious with the 11 corpses for two days in a room where the corpses had been placed awaiting burial.
“The people who put me there thought I was also dead.”

“I would like to make clear now, and for the first time, on behalf of Her Majesty’s government, that we understand the pain and grievance felt by those who were involved in the events of the emergency in Kenya,” he told the Commons.
“The British government recognises that Kenyans were subject to torture and other forms of ill-treatment at the hands of the colonial administration.
“The British government sincerely regrets that these abuses took place and that they marred Kenya’s progress towards independence.”

Mr Hague said 5,228 victims would receive payments totalling £19.9m following an agreement with lawyers acting for the victims, who have been fighting for compensation for a number of years.

The compensation amounts to about £3,000 per victim and applies only to the living survivors of the abuses that took place.

Mr Hague said Britain still did not accept it was legally liable for the actions of what was a colonial administration in Kenya.

Christian Turner, the British High Commissioner to Kenya, also made a statement on the settlement to members of the Mau Mau War Veterans’ Association in Nairobi.
Gitu wa Kahengeri, secretary-general of the association, said it was the “beginning of reconciliation between the Mau Mau freedom fighters of Kenya and the British government”.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22790037

The above link is a week old but … Of course NO SURPRISE ….

This is just an hour old. Take a look.

Mau Mau veteran families seek more from UK

http://www.nation.co.ke/Counties/Mau-Mau-veteran...seek.../-/index.html
1 hour ago – Relatives of Mau Mau fighters tortured during the British colonial rule are demanding more compensation from the UK.

· They want the British Government to compensate them with an amount equivalent to one kilogramme of gold for each year of the 70 years of colonial rule.
· A kilogramme of gold is estimated to be worth $39,041 (Sh3,318,485) in the black market.

So for no good or just reason, the Brits were just mean and nasty racist white guys and the Mau did nothing to warrant the treatment they received.

How many other peoples and tribes will now demand, com – pen – say – shon?

The Brits would have been justified in wiping out the entire tribe of butchering savages.  How about compensation to the families of the white farmers who were murdered by these vermin?  Will they have to part with any of that new found free money to their victims? Yeah. Sure thing.
Fracked up pc world.

The World Sucks And I Can’t Poison Anything Today

Bleh, another rainy day. Two whole days of not-rain is about the most we seem to get lately. I had hoped to go on a bug killing rampage; I was going to do a Flower Power post about it as I’ve picked up two kinds of pyrethrins - insecticides based on chrysanthemum flowers - one a long term natural residual, the other a shorter term encapsulated synthetic with stronger knock down power. Not like we really have bugs here. But we do get crickets in the house (and the wrong kind IMO, not the friendly little black ones, but the hyperactive ugly variegated ones called camel crickets), there are spiders galore outside, and I had a tick drop on me from the bushes when I was putting in the landscape lights. Ticks? Screw that! This is NJ, home of deer ticks and Lyme Disease. And those horrible Brown Recluse spiders. Although it was just a regular tick, not a deer tick. Still. Time to get draconian an unleash some wholesale slaughter. But once again we’re having liquid inundation, so treating the foundation and the bushes with Bifen I/T and Cyonara 9.7 will just have to wait.

So, what else? Ah, a nice paragraph from Mark Steyn on armed branches of the government:

A bureaucracy is bad. A politicized bureaucracy is worse. A paramilitary politicized bureaucracy is nuts. And, in fact, evil. There is no reason in a civilized society why the Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Paperwork should have his own Seal Team Six.

read more here.

St. Louis going from worse to worser ... after multiple multiple shootings in the past few days, all the tops cops went out on patrol trying to help augment the regulars for a show of force. And some jive dude walked right out in the street and shot up the Commander’s car, with him in it. He’s fine, but the thug got away. 8 shootings in one night leave 18 wounded, right on the heels of Davonta Coleman doing a drive-by that shot 6 on Monday. Yes indeed, every single one of these events was done by black guys. Deal with it.

Hey, you wonder how the feds are getting away with all that spying on us citizens? Exemplary powers! Why? Because we’re in a national state of emergency! Say what? Yup. The one Bush put us in back on 9/14/01 ... not only has it not been rescinded, but Obama upped the ante on 9/11. Read more. Hey, this never ending state of emergency jazz ... IIRC isn’t this how tin pot dictators stay in power?

Speaking of poisoning things, I’ve been reading a rather scholarly treatise on Lucrezia Borgia. It’s hard going, but well researched. And it shows that the TV show Showtime just cancelled The Borgias was quite close to what really went on. Crivens!

Kids need training to prepare for the future. Theirs and ours.

These kids train for their future.
The Hitler Youth with a different flag and a different race of people, but the same general idea.

On Monday, Grayjohn posted this comment in reply to a post by Drew.

Jihad strikes again.  Find out where he was born and carpet bomb his village.

Christopher had this to say:

Torture? You betcha!
Desecrate the Koran by wiping his arse with it? You betcha!
Desecrate him by stuffing pig genitals into his mouth so that he suffocates? You betcha!
But… let’s not kill children by carpet bombing his village.

To which I ask,

Really?

Why not?

Because this is what those “children” grow into anyway.  So what difference should it make exactly when we kill them?

I think it’s now referred to as pre-emptive strikes.

I’m okay with that.  Besides, if they can kill their own people including the kids as we know they do everyday, why should we feel squeamish ?

Don’t You Believe It

IRS Cancels Order For Spy Gear

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has cancelled its purchase order for surveillance equipment, which had included coffee trays with hidden cameras and cameras that could be hidden in plants.

The IRS issued the cancellation on Wednesday at 11:49 a.m.

CNSNews.com published an initial story about the IRS’s purchase order on Monday afternoon--and that story was linked on The Drudge Report.

As CNSNews.com reported, the IRS had issued a rush order for the surveillance equipment last Thursday, June 6. That order originally carried a deadline of Monday, June 10. Among the items the IRS sought to purchase were four coffee trays with hidden cameras, four cameras that could be concealed in plants, and two “concealed clock radios.”

Seeing as they had set the deal up with “an undisclosed corporation”, it is not beyond possibility that they have diddled some paperwork to hide the purchase under something else. Something like “pencils and assorted minor office equipment nobody cares about, so don’t look here”. You know. Subtle stuff.

Either that, or the spy gear was just delivered unpaid. No receipt, just an understanding. And some guy in a trench coat from Treasury is going to drop off a large suitcase in some dark alley very shortly.

Because the IRS lies. Just like every other branch of the federal government. They disdain the little people who work (suckas!) to pay the taxes (fools!!) that pay their wages, so who gives a flip about them anyway? They’re chum. Not even human. Tell them whatever they want to hear, then do whatever you like. They can’t stop you, they can’t prove anything, and they’ll never ever be any kind of real threat to your everlasting imperial power.

Joe Biden, The Uniter

June 12, 2013: VP Joe Biden:

“Al Gore Was Elected President”

What a dumbfuck divisive numbnuts this assclown is.

Vice President Joe Biden praised former Vice President Al Gore, who was present during a fundraiser for Massachusetts Senate Candidate Ed Markey, asserting that Gore had actually won the the 2000 presidential election.

With characteristic hyperbole, Biden introduced the former Vice President while praising his political career.

“This man was elected president of the United States of America,” Biden said according to the pool report. “No, no, no. He was elected president of the United States of America. But for the good of the nation, when the bad decision in my view was made, he did the right thing for the nation.”

Biden, a potential 2016 candidate for president, praised Gore’s decision to accept the Supreme Court’s decision and walk away from the presidency.

Holy flying fartknuckles. Do we have to do this crap AGAIN? STILL?

Joe, you fucking moron. Your boy LOST. He lost the recount. He lost the other recount. When all was said and done and the major leftwing newspapers did their own recounts, he lost them too. And they admitted it. Florida followed it’s own law in declaring Bush the winner of that state when it did. The final Supreme Court decision was fair and simple: follow the law on your books. So Bush WAS elected. Not selected. Now go take 3 more of your blue pills and go sit in the shade for a while.

GORE LOST. Now MOVE ON.

I swear to God, the White House uses this jerk as some kind of a human shield. Whenever it looks like Obama is really deep in the caca and feeling paranoid, they let the Vice President out of his little cardboard box to make some public statement. And then even the most deranged trigger happy crazies on the Right settle down for a while, realizing that if Obama was out of the way, this turbo-idiot would be in charge. Horry Clap.

But you know what? Biden, as tenaciously stupid as he is, is merely reflecting the opinion of millions of other lefties. They’re still pissed off over this, probably because they didn’t cheat quite enough that time around. Jumping Jimmy on a pogo stick, freakin Gore didn’t even win his own home state. He lost.

And Bush was not behind 9/11 either, so STFU on that one too.

Saving the last flying pencil

1940 Luftwaffe Relic Retrieved From Watery Grave

WWII Dornier bomber wreck pulled from the Channel off of Kent is last of its kind

image

Shot down in the Battle of Britain by an oddball fighter plane you’ve never heard of, the plane has rested in 50 feet of water for 70 years. Now recovered, can it be restored?

image

Dornier Do 17s in the sky, ca 1940

The Dornier Do 17, nicknamed “the flying pencil” for it’s long thin fuselage, was a “fast light bomber” designed in the interwar period. The idea behind it was that it would be as fast or faster than the fighter planes opposing it, and thus could evade them and drop it’s few bombs on target. With a bomb load of just over a ton and a top speed of only 255mph, by the time WWII got really hot the plane was more of a sitting duck. Although 2100 of them were built, not one survived the war intact.

A British museum on Monday successfully recovered a German bomber that had been shot down over the English Channel during World War II. The aircraft, nicknamed the Luftwaffe’s “flying pencil” because of its narrow fuselage, came down off the coast of Kent county in southeastern England more than 70 years ago during the Battle of Britain. The rusty and damaged plane was lifted from depths of the channel with cables and is believed to be the most intact example of the German Dornier Do 17 bomber that has ever been found.

“It has been lifted and is now safely on the barge and in one piece,” said RAF Museum spokesman Ajay Srivastava. The bomber will be towed into port Tuesday, he added.

A few fragments of the plane dropped off as it was being lifted, but officials said divers will retrieve them later. The museum had been trying to raise the relic for a few weeks, but the operation was delayed by strong winds and choppy waters. In 2008, divers discovered the aircraft submerged in 50 feet (15 meters) of water.

image [ May 3, 2013] The operation will see the retrieval of what is the only known survivor of the Luftwaffe’s ‘flying pencil’ bomber from the Goodwin Sands, off the coast of Kent where it crash-landed in 1940. Using pioneering techniques, it will take approximately three weeks to complete the lift which has been made possible thanks to a grant of over £345,000 from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF).

The aircraft is the only known example of its kind in the world and was spotted by divers in 2008. After sonar scans conducted by the museum, Wessex Archaeology and the Port of London Authority the identity was confirmed as Dornier Do 17Z Werke nr. 1160 (aircraft history below).

The aircraft is in remarkable condition – considering the events surrounding its loss and the effects of spending so many years under water. Other than the effects of sea life such as barnacles, corral and marine life, it is largely intact. The main undercarriage tyres remain inflated and the propellers clearly show the damage inflicted during the bomber’s final landing.

Amazingly, researchers were able to identify the very airplane itself, who the crew were and what happened to them, and even who shot it down with what kind of plane.

Over 400 Do-17 participated in the Battle of Britain during the course of which nearly 200 examples were destroyed. [sitting duck, indeed!]

Research by the Air Historical Branch and the RAF Museum suggests that the wreck is Do-17-Z2 Ser No 1160 of 7/III/KG3 (5K + AR) lost on 26 August 1940, the height of the Battle of Britain.

The Dornier 17 was part of a large enemy formation intercepted by RAF fighter aircraft at midday on 26 August 1940 as they attempted to attack airfields in Essex. This particular aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on the Goodwin Sands at low tide after an attack by Defiant fighters of No 264 Sqn that left both engines stopped and the crew wounded.

The Dornier, flown by Feldwebel (Flt Sgt) Willi Effmert attempted a wheels-up landing on the Goodwin Sands. He touched down safely and the aircraft sank inverted. Effmert and his observer were captured but the other crewmen died and their bodies were washed ashore later.

Of the flight of 7 bombers that this one was part of, 6 were shot down that day, by half a dozen Boulton Paul Defiants from RAF No. 264 Squadron, which themselves suffered 50% casualties from the Dornier’s escorting Messerschmidt Bf109 fighters.  War is hell.

The fight against Islam boils over: anti-government riots in Istanbul Turkey, crossroads of the world

On the one side, the modern urban people of Turkey, a secular nation with close ties to Europe.

On the other side, Obama’s buddy, the pro-Islamic Prime Minister Erdogan, closely allied with the Muslim Brotherhood, who wants to make Turkey once again a bit of the caliphate and bring Sharia law to the nation. Secular laws have been eaten away, journalists have been jailed, and for 10 years he has pushed and pushed to take modern Turkey back to the 7th Century and turn it into some kind of mini-Saudi Arabia.

A day of clashes between protesters and riot police in Istanbul’s Taksim Square suddenly changed dramatically Tuesday when police blanketed the area with massive clouds of tear gas and shot water cannons.

Tens of thousands in the square fled, while some in Gezi Park, which was also hit by tear gas canisters, chanted and launched fireworks in defiance.

Soon the square, home to days of protests over what demonstrators call an increasingly authoritarian government, was filed with chaos. Hugely loud bangs echoed through the area—likely the result of stun grenades. Thousands packed back into Taksim Square, surrounding a large bonfire that they were fueling with whatever they could pick ups.

Prime Minister Recept Tayyip Erdogan’s government had said it would allow protesters to remain in Gezi Park as long as they were peaceful. But CNN’s Arwa Damon, inside the park, saw police shoot tear gas canisters in Tuesday.

“There’s a spirit of determination” and “solidarity” in the park, Damon said. Throughout the day, protesters had called on each other to try to keep things calm and to keep protests peaceful.

The assault on the area marked a return to the more heavy-handed tactics Turkish authorities used in the earlier days of the protests.

The protests at first had focused on the environment—opposition to a plan to build a mall at the park—but quickly grew into a battle against Erdogan’s democratically elected government.

Protesters had built a new barrier earlier Tuesday and lobbed Molotov cocktails at armored vehicles and burned one. Police responded by spraying water cannons.

In a game of cat-and-mouse, the demonstrators, using wooden boards as shields, would pull back—only to return, lobbing cocktails and firecrackers and flashing “victory” signs.

Granted, idiotic talking head Schlep Smith on Fox can’t resist trying to call this a “Turkish Spring” and demanding that it’s the same as the protests the other year in Tahir Square in Egypt ... although that’s EXACTLY BACKWARDS from what this is. Egypt was people fighting for a religious government against an existing secular tyrannical one, Turkey is secular people fighting a faux-secular, faux-democratic semi-tyrannical one that WANTS to be islamic. Buy hey, brown people violently protesting the government, so it’s all the same, right?

ISTANBUL — Riot police officers moved into Taksim Square in central Istanbul on Tuesday, firing tear gas grenades and water cannons and enveloping the center of this city with smoke and the sounds of ambulance sirens. The square, which has become a sprawling and eclectic hub of grievance against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was transformed into a tableau of urban chaos.

The operation took all day and was still in progress as the workday ended, when more protesters began reoccupying the square and police officers cleared it again with tear gas. The scene took on the air of a movie set: fireworks lit by protesters and nonlethal sound bombs set off by the police punctuated the chants of “Istanbul is ours! Taksim is ours!”

At intervals during the day, the police would advance into part of the square, then retreat again to rest, as officers mingled with onlookers, smoked cigarettes or bought snacks from street vendors. Short outbursts of clashes with protesters alternated with intervals of calm, allowing onlookers and tourists to gather in relatively safe spots and watch the action unfold, and then flee down side streets when the tear gas became too thick.

The police advance was far from decisive in quashing the protest movement that has risen to challenge the rule of Mr. Erdogan and his conservative Justice and Development Party, which has roots in political Islam: Gezi Park, whose preservation was the initial focus of the protests, was left alone to its occupiers, who have erected a tent city there and have vowed to stay.

Turkey is a NATO member, and has been since 1952. One of the earlier signs of Erdogan’s influence was Turkey’s denial of allowing the US to use them as an invasion path in the 2003 Gulf War.

Long a Christian nation, the area (also known as Asia Minor and Anatolia) was the second seat of the Roman Empire for 1000 years, an empire known as Byzantium. The end of the Middle Ages began in 1453 when the capital city of Constantinople fell to the forces of jihadi Ottomans, and the place has been called Istanbul ever since. With the entire eastern Med controlled by Islam, the Silk Road between Europe and China was closed, and soon thereafter Christopher Columbus took a few leaky boats and set off to find an alternate route.  The Ottoman Empire, aka The Caliphate, lasted until 1918, and modern Turkey came into being soon thereafter.

Wouldn’t it be funny if the new fight began where the old fight ended? Wouldn’t it just be apt.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
