Today’s Big Read

If you haven’t seen links to this essay somewhere else, let me point out to you a great bit of “required reading” on the gun control issue.

Barry Snell hits a grand slam, right out of the park, with his 5 page essay. Go and read it, you’ll love it. And it helps the rest of us review and line up our talking points. Well done.

I’ve come to realize after the Sandy Hook shooting that the reason we can’t have a rational gun debate is because the anti-gun side pre-supposes that their pro-gun opponents must first accept that guns are bad in order to have a discussion about guns in the first place. Before we even start the conversation, we’re the bad guys and we have to admit it. Without accepting that guns are bad and supplicating themselves to the anti-gunner, the pro-gunner can’t get a word in edgewise, and is quickly reduced to being called a murderer, or a low, immoral and horrible human being.

Gun people don’t trust anti-gun people because they keep saying they “respect the Second Amendment” and go on about how they respect the hunting traditions of America. We don’t trust you because you have to be a complete idiot to think the Second Amendment is about hunting. I wish people weren’t so stupid that I have to say this: The Second Amendment is about checking government tyranny. Period. End of story. The founders probably couldn’t have cared less about hunting since, you know, they just got done with that little tiff with England called the Revolutionary War right before they wrote that “little book” called the Constitution.

Gun people don’t trust anti-gun people because they lie to us. President Obama directly says he won’t tamper with guns or the Second Amendment, then turns around and pushes Congress to do just that. We don’t trust anti-gunners because they appoint one of the most lying and rabidly (and moronically) anti-gun people in America, Vice President Biden, to head up a “task force” to “solve” the so-called “gun problem,” who in turn talks with anti-gun special interest groups instead of us to complete his task.

Oh, yummy with extra fudge sauce. Love it.

the more things change, the more they remain the same

I happen to see this letter to an editor of a paper today, and was immediately reminded how little things change.  Although it had not occurred to me it started so long ago. Don’t know why.  Just never thought about it and not as much got reported back in those pre computer days.
I am referring to the guys on our side, being killed by guys they trained.  They trained them thinking they were allies. The place was Aden, Yemen.  No surprise then is it?

Oh Go Stuff Your Damn Racist Memes

Oh puh-leez ma sistah, step off.

The guy is a hero. OK, he’s a small hero, but he’s a man that did the Right Thing at the Right Time. Good for him.

And I think he’s achieving instant internet stardom not because he’s a low income ghetto dweller but because he’s an honest and personable fellow. The man is a natural story teller; he relates this tragic story in a way that makes you smile. People love him. He’s funny. And that has nothing to do with what he looks like or where he’s from. The interview video is on two posts further down this page, so I won’t post it again.

Some people have their heads screwed on backwards, I swear.

Does a Cleveland man’s dizzying ascent to viral stardom expose America’s racist underbelly?

No sooner did America hear about the miraculous story of three long-missing women being freed from captivity in a Cleveland home did Charles Ramsey, the neighbor who reportedly aided in their escape, become an internet star.

Ramsey was one of the first to provide reporters with an eyewitness account of the rescue of Amanda Berry who, along with Georgina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, had been missing for a decade. (Read more about their rescue here.) Ramsey offered America a candid, self-effacing report that immediately caught the eye of thousands upon thousands of people all over the world. Like any good story, Ramsey peppered his tale with details ("I was eaten’ my McDonald’s") and offered a humorous analysis of an otherwise unbelievable situation: “Bro, I knew something was wrong when a little pretty white girl ran into a black man’s arms. Something’s wrong here. Dead giveaway.”

But as Ramsey’s cult-of-personality swelled, criticism also emerged.

“What’s really getting everyone’s attention isn’t his intervention in saving the women’s lives,” says Roger Ratchet at Gossip On This, “it’s his wide-eyed, tactless, and ebonics-peppered speech that has everyone in stitches.”

Ramsey is not the first black American to be thrust suddenly into the spotlight this way. Remember Antoine Dodson of “Hide Your Kids, Hide Your Wife” or Sweet Brown of “Aint Nobody Got Time for That”? They also gave equally frank local TV interviews that were manipulated, memed, catch-phrased, and forwarded around for entertainment.

In the eyes of many critics of these memes, the common denominator among Ramsey, Dodson, and Sweet Brown is that they are poor and black. And to some, this kind of meme-ification reveals America’s racist underbelly. “Laughter directed at Sweet Brown plays into the most basic stereotyping of blacks as simple-minded ramblers living in the “ghetto,” says Aisha Harris at Slate. The root of such jokes are “disrespectful at best.” Harris continues:

It’s difficult to watch these videos and not sense that their popularity has something to do with a persistent, if unconscious, desire to see black people perform. Indeed, Ramsey’s race and class are central to his temporary celebrity, says Gene Demby at NPR. And these memes are patronizing.

Total BS. Ramsey’s charm lies in what he says and how he says it. The man is completely frank and bluntly honest, which is an amazing breath of fresh air in this day and age. No, I don’t live in his world, and he doesn’t live in mine. So what? I’d have this guy over for beers and barbecue any time.

Won’t be a virgin much longer

I’ve got an appoinment with my NRA certified high school buddy for Saturday. We’re going to the Miami Valley Shooting Grounds. $12/person and we can shoot all day. Indoors or outdoors. They only ask if we shoot indoors we use full-metal jacket ammo. Fortunately, I bought 200 rounds of full-metal jacket 9mm. My new Sig-Sauer P-226 will not be a virgin after Saturday. And yes Drew, my friend agreed with your advice on proper barrel break-in procedures.

Benghazi, again?

So now that the election is safely over for Teh iWon, and the Hildabeast has been replaced by that clusterphluck commie J Effin Kerry (he served in Vietnam, did you know that?), it looks like Benghazi is now allowed to be news. Even if White House spokeswhore Jay Carney thinks it was all “a long time ago”.

Plenty of links ... John Bolton thinks this thing could take down the administration (really, no kidding, where ya bin Mr. Mustache?). Senators are waging fingers and getting harumphy over hidden witnesses and gagged whistleblowers, the rest of the media just might be figuring out that this is a story, etc.

I’ve got to go shopping, so here’s a pony cart full of links. Benghazi was just as shameful as abandoning Bataan was back during WWII. And I hope that this time around, somebody fries for it. Because it really does make a difference.

Now that I have your attention, if you are looking for Vilmar’s other blog, he can be found at Antz In Pantz for now.  His old blog, Kicking And Screaming, is shut down and is not coming back.

And yes, you sharp eyed TV watchers, the girl in the pic is Aussie spokesmodel Lisa Gleave, formerly holder of Briefcase #3 on Howie Mandel’s game show Deal or No Deal. Vilmar posted her dressed entirely in string, and not much of that, in case you needed a “reason” to visit his “new” blog. Which has been up for years now, but was mostly used for vacation pics and stuff like that. We have got to teach Vilmar how to do the embiggenify thing.

Fun quote from a recent movie

I’m watching the Johnny Depp version of Dark Shadows. At this point, Elizabeth Collins just asked Victoria Winters if she thought the sexes should be equal.

Victoria’s answer: “Oh no. Then men would become unmanageable!”

Cleveland Kidnappers: It Gets Worse

Kidnapped Girls Beaten Until They Miscarried, Time After Time

At least five babies were born at the house, while one of the victims suffered as many as three miscarriages because she was so malnourished, police sources told NewsChannel5.

Other sources told WKYC that the captors would beat the women when they were pregnant, meaning that the babies would not survive.

It is unknown what happened to any children who were born at the home, and it is not clear whether a six-year-old girl who was found alive there on Monday is among the number cited by sources.

The girl was found after her mother, kidnap victim Amanda Berry, 26, climbed through a screen door on Monday afternoon while her alleged captor was out and fled to a neighbor’s home to call 911.

Also - via Ace - we may be dealing with the Borgias; murder may run in the family (or, as the newest saying goes, “the turd doesn’t fall far from the anus") - Suspect #1’s daughter got 25 years for trying to kill her own baby daughter. Nice folks, for sure.

The daughter of the prime suspect in the kidnapping case of three Cleveland women was jailed for 25 years in 2008 for the attempted murder of her 11-month-old baby, it was revealed today.

Emily Castro, 24 [19 then], tried to slash her [10 month old] daughter Janyla’s throat in April 2007 after she broke up with the child’s father.

Court documents state that police were called to Emily’s home in Fort Wayne, Indiana - where she moved after she became pregnant - when a passerby saw a woman running out to the street with a bleeding baby in her arms.

The woman was Emily’s mother, Grimilda Figeroa, who told police that her daughter stabbed her own child.

Ace and our old pal Allahpundit looked at Ohio’s laws and they conclude that unlawful termination of someone’s pregnancy is aggravated murder, which is a capital offense in Ohio.

So these bastards may hang. Ok, “may hang” is figurative. Lethal injection. Though it seems to me that simultaneous hanging, electrocution, and firing squad, with the nearly dead bodies falling into a Whisper Chipper submerged in boiling oil seems about the right punishment. Especially if it could be done in slow motion. Sick bastards.

UPDATE: THIS IS GETTING REALLY CREEPY

Arlene Castro, another daughter, was BFF with Gina DeJesus. And on the TV show America’s Most Wanted when the girl disappeared; kidnapped by her own father??? WTFF? Video at the link!

Brother Anthony wrote articles in the local paper about missing girl Gina?

Holy subterfuge, Batman! Were the kids in on it all along, or were they acting out, somehow marginally aware of what father and uncles were doing, or are these just the two biggest damn coincidences the world has ever seen?? Is murder, rape, kidnapping, slavery just an All In The Castro Family thing?

The Redneck National Anthem …. all stand please.  Thank You.

Just seems to be my day to be the one being offended by the left and their bullying pc bs. And I see no end to it or them. Not in my lifetime anyway. Damn it that is depressing.

I HATE the pc world we live in and especially those self offended, self appointed guardians of the correct and only way to see and think and speak.

I defy anyone anywhere to show me an example of one ship during the era of slavery, that delivered slaves under the glorious and proud Stars and Bars. Not one.  Those slaves were originally brought to our shores under the flags of many nations including the USA.  So why aren’t all these highly offended negros and their guilty white idiot supporters calling for us to abandon the Stars and Stripes?
Now the word Redneck has to be apologized for also.  Read it all to find out why.

‘Redneck Day’ at Arizona high school causes uproar

An Arizona high school has come under fire from civil rights groups for holding a spoof “Redneck Day” to build team spirit ahead of end-of-year dance.
By Philip Sherwell, New York

The event at Queen Creek High School, near Phoenix, split the school community, upset Black students, angered civil rights activists and unleashed a debate about free speech and racial stereotypes.

The teenage student council, whose plans were approved by school officials, insist that their only intention was to satirise Duck Dynasty, a reality TV show about a family of long-bearded, rural Louisianans who have made millions from their duck-hunting business.

One student however turned up draped in a Confederate flag, an emblem of regional pride in parts of the South but which for many is a racist symbol of slavery and segregation.

School officials said that the student came from another state where the Civil War flag was a more common sight. He was asked to change attire by a teacher and he explained that he had not meant to offend.

In a country where historical reminders of racial divides are still so potent, that did not end the controversy. The term “redneck” is also politically and racially loaded. It is traditionally derogatory slang for poor white farmers, but for some has connotations with bigoted rural conservatives.

Leading the criticism was Ozetta Kirby, a local leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People, America’s oldest civil rights organisation, whose grandson attends the school.

“I’m sitting here crying and praying,” Mrs Kirby, a church pastor, told The Arizona Republic. “That can break you down and make you feel at the bottom rung of the whole society, where everybody is being jubilant. No kid should have to go through that. We all know the connotation of ‘redneck’.”

The Queen Creek school board apologised for offence caused by use of the word.

SOURCE FOR ARTICLE

image

The article reminded me of this song by an old friend who once recorded for RCA.  I have chosen this version because of a memory or two.

This version is NOT the studio recording.  Vernon was playing somewhere here in the UK, in one of the Country Music clubs dotted all over the UK from England to Wales.  American single acts playing gigs here, almost all one nighters and a hell of a grind, and were ALWAYS backed by a British band.  Always.
I used to arrange the booking with Brit agents who then booked the various clubs.

I got to know Vernon well and he was very kind to me when I was out of work and as they say, in between gigs.  He gave me one of his western hats which I wore with great pride for a long time. Somehow, it got lost among the many moves we made.

You will note the dress among the audience in this video.  Brit fans dressed up this way in lots of clubs, they had fast draw contests firing blanks of course, and this was all in a the day when a gun firing blanks wasn’t a taboo.

Vernon and many acts like him had a very hard time getting air play on American Country radio stations, because they were thought to be, “TOO COUNTRY.”
So anyway ... here’s something that in it’s day was a hit record for Vernon Oxford.
