blargh

Somehow I thought that the A/C in this new place would do a better job than that in the old place. After all, we’re downstairs now, with half the unit tucked under the place above us. And it’s still freezing inside the garage. But it’s 90° here right now, the A/C is on, and it’s livable in here. Which I have to admit is a big, big improvement. The A/C in the old place pretty much failed any time it went over 85°; on a 90° day like today it would be 87° in there until 8pm. It’s warm in here, but probably no more than 79°. I guess I was just hoping for, you know, actual cold. No luck.

And today I find that the clutch isn’t working on the car’s A/C. I have to go out and figure it out. Is it not getting electricity, or is the switch itself kaput? I checked the fuses and swapped the relay block with the same part used for the fog lamps, which work but I never use. Maybe if I can find 4’ of wire, a spring clip, and a finishing nail I can make a jumper to power the switch to check the functionality. Meanwhile I’ve got the car windows open, risking getting the inside coated with pollen.

Damn, I really did want the A/C here to be magnificent.

update: a mystery. I ran a jumper from the battery to the clutch’s hot wire terminal. Click click click: clutch works just fine. Ran the A/C for about 2-3 minutes with the engine idling, the output air didn’t seem cool at all. So, maybe the coolant has leaked down (it was repaired and recharged 3 years ago), and there is some kind of low pressure safety sensor that won’t run the compressor without coolant? That’s how I’d design the system, so it’s likely. Guess it’s time to make an appointment with my mechanic for a pressure and leak-down check and maybe a recharge. Old cars. They always need something.

photo of Johnson and his grave in Cody Wyoming

And yeah, that’s a real Sharps rifle

Birthplace of a real tough guy

How tough was he? Chuck Norris’s grandfather always politely called him “sir”.

( read this in your inner Sam Elliot voice: )

The American frontier was a badass bitch of an unforgiving wilderness that feasted on the hollowed-out husks of cowards and weaklings and laughed demonically every time some jackass who thought he was the toughest shit since over-cooked turkey ended up on the wrong side of a mouth full of grizzly bear teeth. Between a carnivorous menagerie of miscellaneous flesh-consuming beasts, dense forests dotted with craggy cliffs and Drow-infested caves, and badass indigenous peoples who were more than a little disgruntled about the fact that white men decided to encroach on their ancestral lands, traveling West of the Mississippi was usually about as hazardous to your health as urinating directly into a power outlet. Well, while the West was pretty much making everybody its bitch, the man known as Liver-Eating Johnson made a name for himself by becoming the most hardcore, violently insane motherfucker to ever strap on a Bowie Knife and kick a deer in half while simultaneously skinning an unidentified member of the genus Canis.

He lived off the land, fought Indians and grizzly bears, drank enough rotgut booze to burn a hole through a six-inch plate of sheet metal, and learned the fine art of scalping from the Arapaho Indian tribe. He married a Salish Indian woman in 1846, built a log cabin out of trees he uprooted with his nutsack, and was basically regarded as the toughest and most badass motherfucker in town.

Well, apparently the Crow Indians didn’t get the memo – they attacked his home one day while he was out in the wilderness, killed his vastly pregnant wife, scalped her corpse, and burned his house to the ground.

This was not a wise move.

someone I would dearly like to delete. I’d take pleasure in taking my time about it. see why.

Have you ever been so angry you got shaky? I’ve been PO’d more than once and jumped up and down and cursed and ranted over things.
But tonight I read something by a slag, a journalistic professorial slut who wrote a book and the daily mail (in small letters) prints her lies about us with no fact checking whatever.

A lot of brave young kids went off and fought in WW2, and not a few older ones too.  Many were lucky if they died and many came home wishing they had.
Among those troops it can not be denied there were some bad apples. Criminal types who should not have been in uniform but hey, there was a war on.
So along comes this filthy rotten piece of crap with legs and arms, and ....  I’d like to see her dead.

I had already shut down the puter for the day, took the trash out for the morning pick up and came back to read the rest of this morning’s paper that I had missed.  I wish I had not.

Here is what I found, and honest to goodness if I were within a foot of the bitch with a baseball bat I break every bone in her worthless body.
I don’t even think I hate Fonda as much as I hate this one American traitor.  On second thought, they’re equal.

Take a look at this pornography of words and lies.  Surely she must be familiar with the film Why We Fight. But no.  WW2 was sold to American troops as a sexual adventure. Rape away boys. Have fun. Enjoy.

And this pile of manure is a college professor.

American WWII GIs were dangerous sex-crazed rapists who the French feared as much as the Germans, explosive book claims

By 1944 women in Normandy ‘filed complaints about rapes by US soldiers’

Debauchery, lawlessness and institutional racism are chronicled in book

Swapping stockings for kisses and teaching girls how to jive, American GIs were meant to be a welcome ray of sunshine in war-torn Europe.

But a new book has revealed the dark side of Europe’s liberation after the Second World War.

Professor Mary Louise Roberts, from the University of Wisconsin, said within months of D-Day ordinary French women came to fear their American ‘liberators’.

She tells how, by the summer of 1944, large numbers of women in Normandy filed complaints about rapes by US soldiers.

And their arrival prompted a wave of crime all over France, with American soldiers caught committing robberies and petty thefts.

Professor Roberts said: ‘My book seeks to debunk an old myth about the GI, thought of as a manly creature that always behaved well. The GIs were having sex anywhere and everywhere.

‘In the cities of Le Havre and Cherbourg, bad behaviour was common.

‘Women, including those who were married, were openly solicited for sex. Parks, bombed-out buildings, cemeteries and railway tracks were carnal venues.

‘People could not go out for a walk without seeing somebody having sex.

‘But the sex was not always consensual, with hundreds of cases of rape being reported.’

The locals of Le Havre were shocked by the soldiers’ behaviour and wrote letters of protest to their mayor.

One complaint, from October 1945, said: ‘We are attacked, robbed, run over both on the street and in our houses.

‘This is a regime of terror, imposed by bandits in uniform.’

Le Havre’s mayor, Pierre Voisin, complained to Colonel Thomas Weed – the commander of US troops in the region.

‘Scenes contrary to decency are unfolding in this city day and night,’ Voisin wrote, adding it was ‘not only scandalous but intolerable’ that ‘youthful eyes are exposed to such public spectacles’.

The mayor suggested the Americans set up a brothel outside the city to avoid public outrage and contain the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. However although US officers publicly denounced the behaviour they did little to curtail it.

The book also claims the US army ‘demonstrated a deep and abiding racism’, suggesting they pinned a disproportionate number of rapes on black GIs.

Documents show that of 152 troops disciplined by the army for rape, 130 were black.

Professor Roberts said: ‘American propaganda did not sell the war to soldiers as a struggle for freedom but as a sexual adventure.’

She points out that The Stars and Stripes, the official newspaper of the US armed forces, taught soldiers German phrases like ‘waffen niederlegen’ meaning ‘throw down your arms’.

However the French phrases it recommended to soldiers included ‘you have charming eyes,’ ‘I am not married’ and ‘are your parents at home?’ US magazine Life even fantasised that France was ‘a tremendous brothel’ inhabited by ‘40,000,000 hedonists, who spend all their time eating, drinking and making love’.

A cafe owner from Le Havre said at the time: ‘We expected friends who would not make us ashamed of our defeat. Instead, there came only incomprehension, arrogance, incredibly bad manners and the swagger of conquerors.’

From the daily mail

I managed to clam myself and wrote the editor as follows:

Sir,
I read with some dismay the twisted ranting of an American professor with regard to our troops in the last war.
Shameful secrets of the GIs who preyed on women, in Thursday’s Mail.

I’m an American but NOT an apologist for criminal behavior. I’m certain bad things including rape did happen. But I’d bet it happened less among our troops due to the constant drumming in our heads about the shame any bad behavior would bring on our country and ourselves and the service.  The writer quoted here lies when she says American propaganda did not sell the war to soldiers as a struggle for freedom.  It most certainly did and she ignores the film produced for the army by Frank Capra, called “Why We Fight.” Please Google that and you will see how slanted her reporting is to have omitted that series of films shown to the armed services and also to America. By today’s standards you might find it a bit corny I admit. But the truth is still there in the Why We Fight series.  I hope the DM will allow this letter so all of you can see the truth for yourselves. The war was never presented as a sexual adventure, and these scurrilous remarks do a disservice to the many who died fighting, or returned legless or worse.  In too many cases the lucky ones were those who died, and many returned wishing they had.  She and her book do a serious disservice to those who gave their all. Honest criticism is one thing but this is mean spirited attack by a self hating American lefty.

Me Too Me Too

Hey maybe this bridge hunting stuff is catching on. I see that Glen Reynolds over at Instapundit has a picture up today of the ongoing construction of the new Chapman Highway bridge across the Tennessee River in Knoxsville. His picture calls it “Calhoun’s Bridge”.

Me too.

Here’s a picture of an actual Calhoun’s, the Calhoun Street Bridge in Trenton NJ.

image

Built in 1884 by our favorite swords into plowshares builders The Phoenix Bridge Company, this 7 section simple span Pratt through truss is made of wrought iron and is nearly 1275 feet long. Almost 129 years old, the free bridge has been recently refurbished and sees 18,500 cars cross it daily over the Delaware River. No one is making the claim, but it is likely the longest Phoenix column bridge left in the world.

The bridge is actually older than cars, coming to life nearly a decade before any motorized vehicles existed in the USA. Times change; these days a sign on the bridge says HORSES NOT PERMITTED ON BRIDGE.

I’m off for a short trip down-county, to check on a bridge or two myself.

KISS SWEDEN GOODBYE

I got this bit of copy from the Washington Times.
I’m not posting all of it and in fact I am only posting this reminder because of a blurb caught in, of all places, The Wall Street Journal.
Which I will get to shortly.

Swedish riots could represent Europe’s future

CHARLOTTE, May 29, 2013 – Travelers who have visited Sweden know it be one of the great undiscovered secrets of Europe. It is also one of the most liberal. Now, after more than a week of rioting, Sweden’s grand experiment in multiculturalism is providing a window into what the rest of Europe, and even the United States, could expect if current immigration policies continue.

Thanks to government policies which offer new immigrants free housing and social welfare when they arrive, Sweden has long been one of the world’s most popular destination for asylum seekers.

Sweden itself is a country of emigrants. In the southern region there is even an emigrant museum which is one of the best facilities in the world for genealogy research. Combined with its progressive philosophy Sweden has long had open-door immigration policies which, until recently, have been a source of national pride.

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, many immigrants have little education and are unable to find work in an upscale highly educated society.

Even under the best of conditions, integration into another society so culturally different from their own is a difficult adjustment for any nationality.
The unrest happening today in Sweden is similar to what occurred in the past in London and Paris, though most observers say it is to a lesser degree.

Much of Sweden’s problem is the result of ignoring immigration policies that encourage the establishment of parallel societies within the country. With such open policies, it is understandable that Sweden would have a high density of immigration from a multitude of nations.

With so many cultures entering the country, especially from Africa and the Middle East, immigrant societies have become increasingly segregated from Swedish society. As a result, areas known as no-go zones have arisen that make certain areas of major cities in Sweden, and other European nations, dangerous and off-limits for natives.

Some of the Islamic no-go zones now function within their individual areas by instituting Sharia law as their source of legal authority. Consequently these sections have become virtual islands of Islam within Sweden. These micro-states are often self-governing to the extent that local authorities either cannot, will not or are not allowed to provide basic benefits such as police and fire protection or ambulance services.

As immigrant populations gain strength, they are becoming increasingly emboldened by asserting special rights and privileges throughout Sweden.

MORE AT THE SOURCE

That isn’t the entire article, which is an interesting read I must say.
But the reason for posting it is because of the very brief quote from the WSJ.  Now talk about absolute lunacy.  Read this bit of wisdumb.

It was written by someone named Fredrik Segerfeldt. Whoever he is.

The immigrants are not to blame.
Rather, the main culprit has been Sweden’s inability to adapt to its new residents.

Now I ask you. Is that guy simply being sarcastic and possibly funny?
Or, is he really serious?
Why should the host country have to adapt to outsiders?  Should it not be the other way around?
And that dear friends tells us much does it not, with regard to the kind of thinking that has seen us come to where we are today. Because I think the writer wasn’t kidding. I believe he belongs to that long list of Western apologists who are quite willing to accommodate, and appease.
I find it so hard to accept that the Swedes could be that stupid.  We can only hope for an upswing of rightists who might settle the foreign hash once and for all.  Hope away. It won’t happen.  Sad that it won’t. Oh well, kiss Sweden goodbye too.

YOU SIMPLY CAN NOT RUN A LIBRARY WITHOUT EQUALITY TRAINING

This bit of farce involves a law firm called Public Interest Lawyers, headed by a fellow named Phil Shiner.  And sure wish someone would give him one.

He’s very much concerned with ‘rights’ and especially those right of some people who very much want to kill Brit soldiers.  But hey, never mind working against your own kind.  It’s expected of certain kinds of people and might disappoint if they didn’t.

He sues his own country on behalf of foreigners who intend harm. But here’s a catch for ya.  Seems Brit military are holding a number of people the papers are referring to as the Brit Gitmo.  Now originally the military was to have turned over their prisoners to Afghan authorities.  But wait, due to the threat of possible harm done under torture by the Afghans, the kindly Mr Shiner wants those prisoners released instead.

It was Mr Shiner who led the case that ended with a 2010 High Court block on the transfer of detainees from Camp Bastion to the Afghan authorities, which compelled the British military to keep so many prisoners in detention in the first place.

Not exactly ‘F’ Troop but one could I suppose write sit-com on it.  Anyway ....

Farce of ‘British Guantanamo’: Lawyers (with BBC help) demand 90 Afghans be freed but now say they’re better off IN prison

Eight of the inmates have been held for as long as 14 months
They haven’t been charged or given access to lawyers, it is claimed
Defence Secretary Philip Hammond today defended the policy

By David Williams and Steve Doughty

Britain was embroiled in a costly legal farce last night over the fate of up to 90 Taliban detainees suspected of trying to kill UK troops.

Lawyers for the Afghans – given a huge platform yesterday by the BBC – claimed the prisoners are being illegally detained at a ‘secret’ prison within Camp Bastion in Helmand Province and demanded they be brought before a court or released.

But when Defence Secretary Philip Hammond indicated that the military was prepared to release them to the Afghan authorities, the same lawyers – funded by legal aid – said they might launch fresh action in the UK courts to prevent that happening.

There’s more to the story of course but turning to another case totally unrelated to war and prisoners in Afghanistan, the same lawyer and his firm,
Public Interest Lawyers, have brought this about.
I guess volunteering to work free in a library here is a no no.  Years ago we were told the one here in our town didn’t have volunteers so I guess it could be country wide. Yet there has been a staffing problem we read, some time ago.
So here. Take a look at this from Mr. Shiner and his group of left wing nut jobs.

The man who loves to sue Britain… on legal aid, of course

A familiar name appeared in the BBC reports.

Phil Shiner.  His firm, Public Interest Lawyers, made its name in Iraq, where Mr Shiner represented alleged victims of abuses by British troops.

The firm’s interests are, however, not exclusively abroad.

Its most recent highly-publicised domestic case was last month when it represented a campaign group who objected to the use of unpaid workers in Surrey libraries on the grounds .....

they had not received equality training.

It won the case and the county council was barred by a High Court judge from using volunteers to work in its libraries. This was, said Mr Shiner, a ‘fantastic result’.

The libraries are now threatened with closure.

caught on camera

Do not usually see this being caught on camera.

Of the three vermin, only one has a name that is Anglo, not that it matters much I guess. But more and more we see names of the sub species cropping up.

Three arrested are:  Ricardo Miles, Daniel Ikumelo, Adebola Alimi.  Not that I’d be any happier were they the more human sort.

More and more the bad guys have guns and foreign sounding names, and are quick to use the guns.

Take a look.  Only runs about 43 seconds.

Gang members fire on unmarked police car. Probably unarmed as well?

I don’t see why the cops couldn’t just ram the scum. Take em all out. Oh right. I was forgetting. The vermin have ‘rights’.  Why?

Christianity faces a permanent decline in Britain

Good morning and welcome to the latest chapter of the continuing and depressing news.

Do any of you remember a photo I posted last year, of Paris streets and muslim prayers?

You recall the dismal scene surely.

Lets take a look again.

Oh wait, this isn’t Paris, France.

THIS ...  IS LONDON (cue voice of Ed R. Murrow)

A Blitz of a different sort, but a Blitz nonetheless.

image

It isn’t a race issue why so many Brits do not recognize the country they grew up in.  And the current kiddies in school are being taught that there isn’t anything wrong and all is normal in their country. It’s a damn lie but the future liberals in training will buy into it.
Be sure and see the link for all the photos.

One country, two religions and three very telling pictures: The empty pews at churches just yards from an overcrowded mosque

· Two photos show Sunday morning services in churches in East London
· The third shows worshippers gathered for Friday midday prayers outside a nearby mosque
· The difference in numbers could hardly be more dramatic

By Guy Walters

Set aside the fact that our Queen is the Defender of the Christian Faith. Ignore the 26 Church of England bishops who sit in the House of Lords.
Pay no attention to the 2011 Census that told us 33.2 million people in England and Wales describe themselves as Christians.
For if you want a more telling insight into religion in the United Kingdom today, just look at these photographs. The story they tell is more revealing than any survey.

When the church was built in the early 18th century, it was designed to seat 1,230.

Numbers are similar at St Mary’s, opened in October 1849. Then, it could boast a congregation of 1,000. Today, as shown in the picture, the worshippers total just 20.

( see photos at link below)

While the two churches are nearly empty, the Brune Street Estate mosque has a different problem — overcrowding.
The mosque itself is little more than a small room rented in a community centre, and it can hold only 100.
However, on Fridays, those numbers swell to three to four times the room’s capacity, so the worshippers spill out onto the street, where they take up around the same amount of space as the size of the near-empty St Mary’s down the road.

What these pictures suggest is that, on current trends, Christianity in this country is becoming a religion of the past, and Islam is one of the future.

In the past ten years, there has been a decrease in people in England and Wales identifying as Christian, from 71.7 per cent to 59.3 per cent of the population.
In the same period the number of Muslims in England and Wales has risen from 3 per cent of the population to 4.8 per cent — 2.7 million people.
And Islam has age on its side. Whereas a half of British Muslims are under 25, almost a quarter of Christians are approaching their eighth decade.

It is estimated that in just 20 years, there will be more active Muslims in this country than churchgoers — an idea which even half a century ago would have been utterly unthinkable.

Many will conclude with a heavy heart that Christianity faces a permanent decline in Britain, its increasingly empty churches a monument to those centuries when the teachings of Christ governed the thoughts and deeds of the masses.

On Sunday October 1, 1738, St George’s was packed twice during the day to hear the great evangelist John Wesley, who then preached at the church for the following week explaining, as he put it, ‘the way of salvation to many who misunderstood what had been preached concerning it’.

Today, there are no John Wesleys to fill up the pews. The church does its best, offering, for example, a monthly ‘Hot Potato Sunday’, during which the few congregants can discuss the readings of the day over a baked potato.

Unless they can reinvigorate their congregations they may finally end up being deconsecrated.

When that happens, such large buildings will be attractive spaces for those who can fill them.

One day, in a few decades, St George’s may well again be packed with worshippers — but they will not be Christians.

STORY AND PHOTOS DAILY MAIL

Unless they can reinvigorate their congregations they may finally end up being deconsecrated.

And I have personally seen this.  In the real estate section of a Hampshire paper, which is several pages long, there are photos and ads for former churches, turned into private homes.  The bigger churches are even sub divided as rentals as well.  It’s a sad sight and I am not even religious.  I can guess the same happens back home in the USA in some communities, although I haven’t heard of it.  But it must surely happen there as well.

The face of this country is changing as is that of Europe perhaps at a slower rate as the benefits here have been so generous.  Which I understand is about to change. But it’s already too late.  :>(

bye bye bacon

China to buy Smithfield for $4.72 Billion
image

All your pork products belong to us!

Shuanghui International Holdings Ltd., China’s biggest pork producer, agreed to acquire Smithfield Foods Inc. (SFD) for about $4.72 billion to boost supplies for the nation that’s the biggest consumer of the meat.

Closely held Shuanghui, parent of Henan Shuanghui Investment & Development Co. (000895), will pay $34 a share for the Smithfield, Virginia-based producer, both companies said today in a statement. The offer is 31 percent more than yesterday’s closing share price.

China’s consumption of pork is rising with the expansion of its middle class while there are questions being asked about the safety of the country’s food supply. Smithfield’s livestock unit is the world’s largest hog producer, bringing about 15.8 million of the animals to market a year, according to the company’s website. It owns 460 farms and has contracts with 2,100 others across 12 U.S. states.

The takeover is valued at $7.1 billion including debt, which would make it the largest Chinese takeover of a U.S. company, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The deal is likely to face scrutiny by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S., said two people familiar with the situation who asked not to be identified because the information is private.

“On the one hand, pork is not directly an issue of national security, as defense or telecom might be,” Ken Goldman, a New York-based analyst for JPMorgan Chase & Co. who has a hold rating on the shares, said in a report today. “On the other hand, if CFIUS comes to believe that Chinese ownership of the U.S.’s largest hog farmer and pork supplier presents a food supply risk, then it may have a heightened concern.”

Darn shame. Smithfield always made really good bacon and their hams were top notch too, for mass produced agri-business meat.

And thus we have a perfect Chinese solution: their own farmers can’t bring pigs to market without horrible diseases, so now they’re using the money we sent them to take food right off our own plates. So smart. Hey, let’s all run to Walmart and buy some more crap from China, and send even more of our money to the communists.

16 million hogs a year. Yeah, and if any Smithfield stuff does stay on the US market, expect the quality to drop like a rock once foreign management takes over. And of course, when half (whatever) the US hog supply goes oversees, the price of pork here will skyrocket.

All that glorious bacon ... turned into pork fried rice. Sigh.

seeing is believing?

Much ado on the news today about this one ...

image

Yeah, The Blaze shows us the billboard first blurred, then in focus. I didn’t need that. You don’t need that. And SondraK hits ALL the points, including the the old eBay picture of the naked guy reflected in the toaster/tea kettle he was selling. And the “camel toe self shot” if you look really hard.

But please.

It’s Adolf.

Or Cartman ... dressed up as Adolf. Respect mah authoritie!!

Doesn’t take much imagination, but it does take a little.

There are no “oh it’s just a coincidence"s in professional advertising. The stuff is waaaaay too analyzed these days for that. People have careers arranging the poppy seeds on hamburger buns so they photograph better. This was not an accident.

So is JC Penny trying to say something about the Tea Party?

Personally, I think it’s funny. I think we should laugh at the Nazis, and mock them for their idiotic ways. But they did an awful lot of evil - almost 1/10 as much as Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot combined, though recent estimates up that number quite a lot - and as much as the term is utterly overused in politics, these were some sick-ass bastards.

Sore today

First big ladder job of the window cleaning season yesterday. Calves not used to it, ow ow ow. Cramps. Got to be a better way to avoid ladder-sore feet and legs. Steel soled shoes maybe? Ladder steps or platforms won’t do it. Never on one rung long enough.
Ate plenty of bananas and drank fruit juice and soda ... make up for electrolytes ... probably sweated off 3 liters. Potassium, Vitamin E, Calcium, Magnesium. Raisins, cantaloupes, raw spinach salad with white mushrooms and mandarin oranges and feta cheese and some slivered almonds.

I’ll be fine. Just didn’t prepare enough for the task. Should have had a big solid breakfast too.

And ... love it ... today it’s raining. Not that I do shoddy work, I don’t. But finishing a job near dusk, and then rain and wind the next day ... sure cuts down on the whiners. “eeeeehm, you missed a spot waaaaay up there!”

Actually, yesterday’s job was pretty challenging. There is some kind of pollen going right now, the stuff sticks like glue. Hard to wash off, and I only had one half a sprayer full of Perfect Glass. Ordinary window soap wouldn’t touch it. Must remember to pick up a new quart of mineral spirits, the ultimate window cleaning solvent. And I have to find my water jugs. I used their well water, which could have been hard as steel for all I know. I’ve got a superb 3 stage water filter here, so I should take 4-5 gallons with me. As good as distilled, but much cheaper. Hard water fights you, and it doesn’t dry clear.

feminazis on the march

Feminazis are alive (unfortunately) and quite well apparently. Look what some are up to now.

Over here, girly magazines are referred to as Lad’s Mags.  I’m not referring to porn but you know the stuff on the shelves in convenience stores and even some markets. Heck, Playboy would be a lad’s mag too.
But mostly, the gripe is with the scantily clad busty models that adorn these periodicals.

Well step forward a new group of hard faced, graceless loons, some who are lawyers, and they want these mags off the shelves.
Being lawyers of course you know even if a case is tossed out of court, they can I suppose still cause some grief.  But they are on a mission and they will determine what is and is not harassment.

How about the models? Are they harassed?

Shops selling ‘lads’ mags’ with covers of featuring scantily-clad women, could be sued for sexual harassment by their own customers and staff, feminist groups have claimed.

Now I have no idea how they arrive at that. You do not have to take a job where girly mags are sold. And as for harassment well …. How ya gonna prove that?

But these types of left wing lunatics unfortunately have a voice and too often they can force their brand of politically correct behavior on the majority of people.  What really amazes me I must say, is that nobody targets them.  We never hear of a hit made on them or an acid bath or anything like it.  And so they go about their happy intrusive way deciding for other what is and will be.

Don’t ya just hate the bastards?

Here, let me introduce you to Kat Banyard, founder of UK Feminista.
Whew, what a face.

Stop selling raunchy lads’ mags or your customers and staff will sue, supermarkets warned

Pressure groups UK Feminista and Object have launched the Lose the Lads’ Mags campaign

They say displaying publications or requiring staff to handle them could amount to sexual harassment

By Daily Mail Reporter

Shops selling ‘lads’ mags’ with covers of featuring scantily-clad women, could be sued for sexual harassment by their own customers and staff, feminist groups have claimed.

Campaigners are warning high street retailers to remove magazines that display naked and near-naked images on their covers or face the risk of legal action.

The Lose the Lads’ Mags campaign, by pressure groups UK Feminista and Object, says displaying publications in stores or requiring staff to handle such magazines could amount to sex discrimination or sexual harassment.

In a letter in the Guardian today, 11 equal rights lawyers say there have been previous cases of staff suing employers in respect to exposure to pornographic material at work, and called on retailers to stop selling ‘lads’ mag’ publications.

‘High-street retailers are exposing staff and, in some cases, customers to publications whose handling and display may breach equality legislation,’ the letter said.Displaying lads’ mags and pornographic papers in ‘mainstream’ shops results in the involuntary exposure of staff and, in some cases, customers to pornographic images.

Kat Banyard, founder of UK Feminista, believes supermarkets have got off the hook for too long

‘Every mainstream retailer which stocks lads’ mags is vulnerable to legal action by staff and, where those publications are visibly on display, by customers.’

The group says it has been contacted by employees who dislike handling such magazines but who feel they have no power to take the issue up with their employers.

UK Feminista and Object are discussing with lawyers about bringing a test case and will support employees who are uncomfortable with images of naked or near-naked women on magazines, the Guardian said.

Kat Banyard, founder of UK Feminista, told the newspaper: “For too long supermarkets have got off the hook, stocking lad’s mags in the face of widespread opposition, but this time we have the law on our side.

Every shop that sells lads’ mags - publications which are deeply harmful to women - are opening themselves up to legal action.”

Sophie Bennett, campaigns officer for Object, added:  ‘Lads’ mags dehumanise and objectify women, promoting harmful attitudes that underpin discrimination and violence against women and girls.

Reducing women to sex objects sends out an incredibly dangerous message that women are constantly sexually available and displaying these publications in everyday spaces normalizes this sexism.’

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
