Could Be A Sticky Situation

Canada Seizes >600 Barrels Of Stolen Maple Syrup

that level of theft impacts their strategic reserve

Yes, Canada has a strategic reserve of maple syrup.  rolleyes

Police in Canada have seized more than 600 barrels of maple syrup in New Brunswick as part of an investigation into millions worth of stolen maple syrup in Quebec.

The Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers reported large quantities of syrup missing last month during a routine inventory, finding empty barrels at a site of the province’s global strategic reserve at St-Louis-de-Blandford.

Quebec provincial police Sgt. Christine Coulombe said Wednesday police executed a search warrant in Kedjwick, New Brunswick last week, but could not provide more information as the investigation was ongoing.

But the owner of Kedjick-based exporter S.K. Export Inc. says police visited last week and told him it was related to the missing syrup. Etienne St-Pierre says his usual suppliers, small producers based in Quebec, sold him it.

The shipment of the pancake-topper was making its way back to Quebec in a heavily guarded convoy of 16 trailer-loads on Wednesday.

“(The convoy’s) under police protection going somewhere in Quebec,” said Yvon Poitras, the general manager of the New Brunswick Maple Syrup Association.

It seems Canada does NOT use the standard UK barrel of 43 US gallons and a quart, they use a 60.60 US gallon barrel, at least for maple syrup, so we’re looking at more than 36,400 gallons of product. At about $35.50 per gallon, that’s a theft of nearly $1.3 million US.

And this theft is peanuts compared to the syrup theft back in August of 15,000 barrels.  Ah, now I get it. This 601 barrels worth was part of that August theft. So the thieves really are trying to shop their swag inside Canada. My guess was they’d at least be smart enough and sophisticated enough to get the 60 tanker trucks full of product out of the country. Go sell it to the Russians or the Chinese or somebody. Nope. They’re trying to sell it a bucket at a time, probably to tourists. Stupid hosers.

The News Sux

Damnation, I said we didn’t want friggin’ Captain Hook effin’ abu-hamza! And now he’s coming. Put him on trail? Are you nuts? Give him a trip to Hawaii and throw him in a volcano.

Islamist cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri will appear before a federal judge in New York on Saturday after Britain extradited the one-eyed radical preacher to the United States to face trial and a potential life sentence on terrorism charges.

The Egyptian-born Abu Hamza, 54, is accused by Washington of supporting al Qaeda, aiding a kidnapping in Yemen and plotting to open a training camp for militants in the United States.

He was flown late on Friday to the United States along with four other men also wanted on U.S. terrorism charges.

See, the thing about the American justice system is that it’s never a sure thing. Anybody can get off. Anybody. Even OJ. So I don’t want this creep to have that chance. And I don’t want him to have all the rights and protections that come from just being in this country. I want him fed to the sharks, somewhere off the coast of Greenland.

Golly, I wonder who’s it was?

Israeli air force shoots down spy drone

The Israeli air force shot down a drone after it crossed into southern Israel on Saturday, the military said, but it remained unclear where the aircraft had come from.

The drone was first spotted above the Mediterranean Sea in the area of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip to the west of Israel, said military spokeswoman Avital Leibovich. Once it crossed into Israeli air space, it was escorted by air force jets.

At about 10 a.m. (0700 GMT), after it traveled east some 35 miles across Israel’s southern Negev desert, the drone was shot down above a forest in an unpopulated area near the border with the occupied West Bank, she said.

Oh please. These things don’t fly very fast, so it’s an absolute guarantee that the fly boys came right up to it and took it’s picture a hundred times. So they know exactly what make and model it was. And trust me, Mossad knows who flies what and where. So they knew before they pulled the trigger who’s drone it was ... and they were right to shoot it down. That they did so over land pretty much proves it was one of ours, as an Iranian, Turkish, Egyptian etc drone could be carrying some kind of weapons payload.

Armageddon, here we come!

Turkey strikes back at Syria after Erdogan warning

Turkey returned fire after Syrian mortar bombs landed in a field in southern Turkey on Saturday, the day after Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan warned Damascus that Turkey would not shy away from war if provoked.

It was the fourth day of Turkish retaliation for firing by Syrian forces that killed five Turkish civilians on Wednesday.

The exchanges are the most serious cross-border violence in Syria’s conflict, which began as a democracy uprising but has evolved into a civil war with sectarian overtones. They highlight how the crisis could destabilize the region.

NATO-member Turkey was once an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad but turned against him after his violent response to an uprising in which more than 30,000 people have died, according to the United Nations.

Turkey has nearly 100,000 Syrian refugees in camps on its territory, has allowed rebel leaders sanctuary and has led calls for Assad to quit. Its armed forces are far larger than Syria’s.

Erdogan said on Friday his country did not want war but warned Syria not to make a “fatal mistake” by testing its resolve. Damascus has said its fire hit Turkey accidentally.

Got your EOTWAWKI kit ready? Set for the Zombie Apocalypse? Got your bug out kit, route, and destination all planned? Holy shit. Mayan calendar running down, mad mullahs getting the bomb, Ocommie gets re-elected in November, the whole Middle East goes up in jihad flames, and the West gets dragged in. Oh, and let’s not forget China, with their upgraded giant military, still looking for payback, revenge, and some expansion, because 67 years ago was just an eyeblink to China. Or the La Raza hordes, ready to go all Machete.

Guilty Pleasure

Top ranked pop music star Carly Rae Jepsen. Took 3rd place on Canadian Idol a couple years ago and has been cranking out the lively pop tunes ever since.

image image image

Fun to listen to, from the simple but peppy Call Me Maybe to the slightly Reggae Bucket to her latest Good Time done with group Owl City. And OMG she’s easy to look at, having the cuteness dialed up to about 11 in the latest wide-eyed brunette with an overbite and bangs look like the ubiquitous Deschanel girls on your TV set, and a great set of legs. Sucks to be 22 don’t it? Especially when she’s already 27. Unbelievably adorable.

3rd Place? Yeah right. Canadians, eh? 3rd Place all the way to the bank, standard rich and famous contract please.

WHEN - he set into motion a plan to take over the control of all energy in the United States through Cap and Trade, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN - he finally completed his transformation of America into a Socialist State, people woke up--- but it was too late.

Add these up one by one and you get a phenomenal score that points to the fact that Barrack Hussein Obama is determined to turn America into a Marxist-Socialist society. All of the items in the preceding paragraphs have been put into place. All can be documented very easily. Before you disavow this do an Internet search; this is not an exhaustive list, only the highlights that most people will easily recall from this administration . ( I’m not including the “I won, get over it. Sit in the back of the bus” parts. That’s mere douchebaggery, not socialism. The same goes for all his former friends and associates “thrown under the bus” the moment they got in the way. And it’s damn crowded under there still.)

The last statement alone is not yet cast in stone. Someday you and I will write that paragraph, let’s hope it will NOT read as it is written above.

Mile High, Mile Deep Smackdown

Romney trounces SCFOMF at debate.

Hell, this sounds so good I may even have to watch later on today.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/03/cnn-poll-romney-wins-debate-by-big-margin/
image

Denver, Colorado (CNN) – Two-thirds of people who watched the first presidential debate think that Republican nominee Mitt Romney won the showdown, according to a nationwide poll conducted Wednesday night.

http://thehill.com/video/campaign/260147-aggressive-romney-blasts-obama-for-his-qtrickle-down-governmentq

Mitt Romney dominated the critical first presidential debate Wednesday night, landing punch after punch on a noticeably subdued President Obama. The GOP nominee came into the evening needing to shake up the narrative of the race, and he appeared to succeed.

Throughout the 90-minute debate in Denver, the first showdown of the presidential contest, Romney aggressively questioned the president’s record while defending his own economic priorities. Meanwhile, as Obama offered a safe defense of his record and policies, Romney often interrupted and seemed eager to engage.

He spent the evening on the offensive and came off well-prepared for his encounter with Obama, who seemed hesitant and forced.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/oct/3/hurt-obama-debater-making-jimmy-carter-look-awesom/

Bewildered and lost without his teleprompter, President Obama flailed all around the debate stage last night. He was stuttering, nervous and petulant. It was like he had been called in front of the principal after goofing around for four years and blowing off all his homework.

Not since Jimmy Carter faced Ronald Reagan has the U.S. presidency been so embarrassingly represented in public. Actually, that’s an insult to Jimmy Carter.

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2012/10/03/californians-watch-as-obama-romney-clash-on-economy-in-1st-debate/

Californians Watch, Think Romney Won Clash With Obama In 1st Debate

... Even more importantly — particularly in what is considered a ‘Blue’ state, where not surprisingly significantly more Democrats watched the debate than Republicans — it was striking that 48% thought Romney was the clear winner.

That’s according to a KPIX-TV CBS 5 poll taken right after the debate, which found only 34% of Golden State debate watchers actually believed Obama won.

Even in the San Francisco Bay Area, debate watchers saw Romney as a narrow winner, according to the poll which was conducted for CBS 5 by the firm SurveyUSA.

Horry Clap, when even the True Blue Believers from Looney Land think the Kenyan halfster lost, it must have been a worse rout than Little Big Horn.

Debate watchers in Greater Los Angeles, the Central Valley and the Inland Empire all scored it for Romney, the poll data showed.

In fact, African Americans were the only demographic group in California to see Obama as a winner — and only narrowly, the CBS 5 poll found.

Well, of course, but even they thought it was close. Which means it had to be a 96 to 4 stomp fest in Romney’s favor. I might even have to watch this later on today; a 4 part video of the debate is linked at the CBS site above.

Looks like the Choomster got intercepted this time!

the muslim plague of the west

Gotta preach to the choir as after all, who else will listen?
Talk to the left and will only be shouted down, so there’s no ‘talk’ to be had.

Maybe I shouldn’t even be posting articles like this cos, as the choir you already know.  I guess I think they’re interesting enough to generate conversations, comments whatever.  But that’s rarely the case and I really don’t know why. But I keep plugging away not knowing to what end.

Have yet to hear a word from the pain management ppl for the wife, who is now on another newer pain killer. No cure, just another grouping of pills until we hear from the clinic that she’s on the appointment list.  It’s been at least three months so far.
Something tells me we’re going to have to wait till next yrs visit to the states. Maybe April or May, and see someone there if there’s nothing they can do here.  Maddening. I can not believe her back problem is not related to her fall.  So now something else to worry about. And those pills make her somehow, different for a short period of time.
Best to just agree with whatever till they wear off and wait for the next episode.
Not her fault of course so no blame there.  Her doctor is taking off another week next week. Nice for the doctor. What the hell, won’t make any difference anyway.

One of the wife’s great pleasures as is true of so many Brits, is gardening.  She can no longer do what she used to do and in fact can hardly do anything. So she has a village lady who does garden work locally come over and tend to those things that need doing and planting flowers where she wants them.  Lots of work actually, that she once did with much enjoyment.  There are literally hundreds of Daffodils in the back for example, along with much else.  But much has also been left untended due to health problems, so the weeds have taken over and growth of bushes and trees etc. have been ignored till recently.

The lady that helps was 40 minutes late today and the guys who trim and cut trees are already more then two hours late and no phone call, which seems to be par for the working day course around here.  People who should be at a place at a time, don’t.  Emails go unanswered unless you write a second time.  Calls usually are unanswered except by a recording and don’t hold your breath for a call back in your lifetime.
But they sure do appreciate, in fact demand payment quickly.

The day started very sunny and bright. Well of course it was bright if sunny.  But right now clouds are building, wind is picking up and I hope it doesn’t rain too soon.

Hell of a way to lead into a story that caught my initial interest.

Hope the day ends better than it started.  Doubtful tho.

Irrational Fear of Islam?

In his book How the West Was Lost, the Russian-born author Alexander Boot suggested that Westerners no longer live in a democracy but in a glossocracy, the government of the word, by the word and for the word.

One could posit that we live in a world dominated at least as much by images, especially moving images in the form of television and movies, as by words, but words clearly matter. In many cases, those who coin new words, or manage to force the public to accept their definition of old words, win the struggle. In practice, this is done by those who control the propaganda flow, in the education system and the mass media.

We now have a term for an imaginary problem: Islamophobia. It has become the subject of international conferences and is treated as a threat to world peace. In contrast, racist violence against people of European origins, a very real problem from South Africa via North America to Western European suburbs, does not exist because we have no special word for it. This is word magic. “Tolerance” and “diversity” mean dispossessing Europeans from the countries their ancestors created, whereas “intolerance,” “hate” and “racism” imply any opposition by Europeans to their own dispossession and organized national destruction.

On Aug. 25 2012, the columnist Doug Saunders published an essay in The Globe and Mail, the largest-circulation national newspaper in Canada, entitled “The unfounded fear of Muslim immigration.” He there engaged in the (by now mandatory) exercise of mentioning Islam-critical individuals such as Bruce Bawer, Thilo Sarrazin, Geert Wilders, Gisele Littman (Bat Ye’or) and Mark Steyn alongside the confessed mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik. Although the author added that these writers have never “explicitly advocated violence,” he seemed to suggest that they implicitly contributed to Breivik’s massacre by writing truthfully about how Muslim immigration is affecting Western countries.

Doug Saunders is the London-based European bureau chief for The Globe and Mail who “writes a weekly column devoted to the larger themes and intellectual concepts behind international news, and has won the National Newspaper Award, Canada’s counterpart to the Pulitzer Prize, on four occasions.” He is completing a book about the alleged myth that a tidal wave of Muslim immigration is threatening the Western world. He admits that in London he can witness a rapidly growing Islamic presence first-hand and that large sections of that and other European cities are now dominated by non-Europeans, but he claims this isn’t a problem:

What unites the ideologies of al-Qaeda and of the “Eurabia” and “Muslim tide” writers is a common belief that there is one creature called “the Muslim” and another called “the Westerner.” Yet there is no such distinction. Muslims are adopting the universal values of our society in the same way (not always easy [sic]) as other religious minorities. The shisha bar and the kebab shop are becoming part of Western culture, much like espresso and Yiddish expressions—but there is no threat to our core values.

Less than a month after these words were written, violent anti-Western protests and riots swept across the Islamic world, targeting Western embassies while using an obscure movie as a pretext for this Jihad.

On August 26 2012, writer Nathan Lean published an op-ed in The Los Angeles Times using the Breivik trial as a verbal stick to beat those writing about Islamization into submission, claiming that “heightened anxiety over the presence of Muslims in Europe and the United States has ignited a string of attacks on the faith community.” That’s nonsense. On the contrary, nearly every week we see stories about Muslim immigrant gangs harassing the natives in European cities, sometimes even attacking the police armed with guns.

Lean specifically singled out such writers as Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller for allegedly agitating a “climate of hate” in North America and beyond. He concluded his essay by stating that “The discourse of hate must be stopped before it affects other extremists.” As Spencer—who lives with death threats from Muslims due to his writings—commented at Jihad Watch, this is a barely concealed call for restricting freedom of speech.

more to read, source

A further note.  Just so ya know. The Mail that is mentioned in the article is NOT the Daily Mail I quote from so often.

The Poll Nobody Will Mention

This Seems About Right To Me

image

With about 100 times as many participants as your typical MSM poll as well, today’s poll from the main Yahoo! page pretty much says it all. 17% say the debates might make a difference. Which also means that they might not as well. In other words, it’s a waste of time for nearly everyone.

Let’s face the truth: anyone who is completely undecided at this point is a dribbling moron who shouldn’t be allowed out in public without handlers. Anyone who is merely only 75% sure shouldn’t be trusted with anything sharper than melted crayons. We are at just about the most divisive moment in US history besides the Civil War. There is no middle ground. You’re either with America, or with the terrorists Democrats fascists DNC Occupy Movement traitors commies hippies radical left Team Obama. See? I can’t make up my mind. I’m undecided!!

Speaking of dribbling, I have to go install a bariatric commode now. And I’ve got a window job tomorrow, so I might be away for a bit.

Are You Ready For The Big Debate Tonight?

Doc Jeff has your 6, and sends this along to set you up:

image

you know the drill.

Also: debate drinking rules. Any 6 rules may be applied. Please add your suggestions in the comments, then argue about which rules are worth it and which aren’t.

Rule 1: Any time Obama “accidentally” gives the American people the finger, DRINK. You know he does this all the time, and the press never calls him on it, so have a big frosty cup full ready.

Rule 2: Any time the camera cuts to Moochelle the Klingon War Bride and she looks like her normal, psychopathic roid-raged self, DRINK.

Joke From Iran

Iran: If Talks Fail We Will Enrich Uranium To 60%

At this point I hope every single BMEWS reader spots the joke the lie instantly, before even reading the snippet below, or following the link for the whole story.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran would enrich uranium up to 60 percent purity if negotiations with major powers over its nuclear program fail, an Iranian lawmaker said on Tuesday, in comments that may add to Western alarm about Iranian intentions.

Mansour Haqiqatpour, deputy head of parliament’s Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, said 60 percent enrichment would be to yield fuel for nuclear submarines, which often require uranium refined to high levels.

But it would also take Iran another significant step closer to the 90 percent enrichment level needed to make atomic bombs, which the West suspects is the Islamic state’s ultimate aim. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful energy only.

Blah blah blah, yadda yadda. Now watch Obama and Hildabeast run right over there and leap to their knees, mouths wide open.

You DO understand the joke right?

Talks with the west ALWAYS fail. Iran has pretty much just made the announcement that their uranium enrichment program is at the 60% mark. Which is almost reactor or bomb level purity, at least in terms of time.

Because a series of cyclotrons or a cascade of gas centrifuges is not a temporally linear process. It’s nearly logarithmic. That means it takes YEARS to enrich your yellowcake from zip to about 2%. Then it takes another couple of years to get 2% up to 30 or 40%. But once you’re partway there, the process starts going faster. So getting from 40% to 60% takes far less time than getting from 20% to 40%. And getting from 60% to 92% takes much less time than getting from 30 to 60%.

And this is exactly what Bibi said at the UN the other day, with drawings of bombs and red lines to help stupid people understand. Which is why the press ignored him or made fun of him.  Because they are our enemy, like Iran. And like Obama. And Islam. And they don’t want you to understand, or believe, or demand action, even though inaction endangers your very life.

So when the government tells the media to lie to you yet again, that Iran won’t have the bomb for at least another couple of years ... they probably have one or two already, and by November 5 they’ll have another one, and by January 20th they’ll have half a dozen, and the long range rockets to put them anywhere. And the war on terror will be lost, unless the world can act with coordinated massive strength, and accept the risk that they might get a bit nuked in the process. In the end they will win, but they have to take the risk at this point to get there. The time to bomb the living fuck out of Iran was a week after Iraq fell 9 years ago, but little Bush didn’t listen to me the same way big Bush didn’t listen to me yelling at him to shoot Saddam back in ‘92.

Another Unpaid Product Endorsement

This Kit Does The Job

image I finally got around to polishing my tired old headlights this afternoon. I got this kit as a Christmas present ... Ok, I’m a bad putitoffski. But it’s cool and rainy today, and there isn’t much else to do around here other than housework ... so, off to the garage I went.

Mothers PowerBall 4 Headlights, about $20

The headlights on my 1997 Saturn have an aerodynamic polycarbonate cover on them just like every other car’s headlights built in the last 20 or so years. I have never polished the covers, and the car has spent most of its life outdoors. So they were beyond just a little scratched and murky. They looked rather frosted and almost milky. I knew it was high time to do the job when I was driving home the other night and I couldn’t see the side of the road from my own lights, but could see the other side of the road from the lights from the guy behind me. Past time.

So I got out the power drill and followed the instructions. Put down some thing cardboard shielding under the light, and open the hood so the polisher can’t scratch your paint. Use a little polish on the spongy PowrBall™ and go over the headlight gently, running the drill at moderate speed and moving the ball in overlapping rows. I had to add more polish a couple of times.  And after about 4 minutes of effort ... almost nothing.

Which is to be expected. The first application just polishes most of the dirt off. So go over the lens cover with a wet paper towel, wipe it clean, and use the little wet sanders that come in the kit. I had them soaking in a cup of water. You get 2 1.5” square pads, with increasing grit wet/dry paper on each side. I think they start you off with #1 800 grit, #2 1000 grit, followed by #3 1500 grit and #4 2000 grit. These are the things that do the real work, like the coarse stone when you sharpen your knives. So you go back and forth a hundred times with the course pad, then wet it again and go the other way 150 times with the medium grit side. Rinse the lens cover off, and repeat things on the diagonal stroke with #3 and #4. The finer the pad is, the more times you rub it back and forth, and the harder you can rub. It doesn’t require arm breaking force.

And when you’ve got the sanding done ... your headlight cover looks awful. So you give it another damp wipe, and use the polish and the polisher ball again. And this time around it works like magic.

It took me about 15 minutes per headlight to do the whole job, and now my lens covers are nearly factory new looking again. I’m sure I’ll be able to see the difference tonight.

Sure, you could do the job yourself for less, if you had some of those foam pad backed wet/dry sanding sheets of the appropriately fine grits. We use them in bowling. My brother gets them for woodworking projects. And you could use some plain old v.fine polishing compound followed by a quick coat of car wax, instead of the pint bottle of lens polish they give you in the kit. And you might save $10, if you happen to have a polishing sponge ball for your drill around. I didn’t.

The $20 kit gives you 2 of the double sided sanding squares, which are half worn out after doing a pair of headlights. You also get a decent sized microfiber cloth that’s softer than the ones you can find in the Dollar Store. The pint bottle of lens cover polish is enough to do 50 or more sets of headlights. I was generous with the polish, and I doubt if I used as much as a tablespoon. The 3” sponge ball polisher can be washed by hand, and if it ever starts looking ratty the head is reversible. All said, if I had half a dozen of the sanding disks we use for bowling, I could just about go into business with this kit. I’m guessing the polisher ball will last for several dozen uses. So it’s far more than you need to do just one car’s worth, even if you have to repeat the task once or twice a year.

And I have perfectly clear headlights again. Nice.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
