Can Anyon Spare A Fuse

Two Thirds Of A Billion People Without Power Still
Biggest Blackout In History Continues
Half Of India Without Electricity For Second Day

NEW DELHI – India’s energy crisis cascaded over half the country Tuesday when three of its regional grids collapsed, leaving 620 million people without government-supplied electricity for hours in, by far, the world’s biggest blackout.

Hundreds of trains stalled across the country and traffic lights went out, causing widespread traffic jams in New Delhi. Electric crematoria stopped operating, some with bodies half burnt, power officials said.

Two hundred workers were stranded in three coal mines in West Bengal when the blackout cut off electricity to elevators in their underground pits, a mining company official told The Times of India.

The massive failure—a day after a similar, but smaller power failure—has raised serious concerns about India’s outdated infrastructure and the government’s inability to meet its huge appetite for energy as the country aspires to become a regional economic superpower. The power failure affected people across 20 of India’s 28 states—about double the population of the United States.
...
Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde blamed the new crisis on states taking more than their allotted share of electricity.

“Everyone overdraws from the grid. Just this morning I held a meeting with power officials from the states and I gave directions that states that overdraw should be punished. We have given instructions that their power supply could be cut,” he told reporters.

The Bharatiya Janata Party criticized the government saying the outage shows complete mismanagement as well as policy failure, The Times of India reports.

“It is a huge failure of the management in the power sector by the UPA government,” Prakash Javadekar, a BJP spokesman, told the Times of India.

“There failure is twin failure. It is management failure as well as the police failure,” he said.

So government runs a entire commodity, and it’s mismanaged, poorly delivered, widely abused, insufficient to the public’s needs, and rationed. Wow, I can’t wait until the good times begin when Obamacare starts kicking in.

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED ‘GRIEVANCES R US’

OK it may be a bit of a long story but please, stay with it. I’ve edited a bit to shorten, but although there’s some snide humor here at the end, what Littlejohn has to say is very straightforward and it’s damn well true. The mind boggling thing of it all is, how’d it get far and nobody was able to put a stop to it.
Littlejohn mentions only one of quite a few more for some reason, of the out of control spending by an unelected body that answers to no one. But it’s all in the name of equality of course.

Welcome to the Equality Hotline, for Scribble press 3

By RICHARD LITTLEJOHN

the Equality Commission, where staff facing redundancy are threatening to sue for unfair dismissal on the grounds that sacking them would, er, be a breach of the Equality Act.

Budget cuts mean that regional offices must be closed and the payroll slashed in half. But because all of those who will lose their jobs are, by definition, from minority backgrounds they claim their dismissal would be against the law.

This dilemma is the perfect illustration of the problems created by Harriet Harman’s ludicrous piece of legislation, which forces governments to take into account the impact of every single policy decision on so-called vulnerable groups.

If implemented to the letter, it would mean that no one from an ethnic minority or with any kind of disability could ever be sacked. But that in itself would fly in the face of true equality.

Surely if we are ‘all in this together’, cuts in public spending should affect everyone, regardless of race, gender, disability or sexual proclivity. And if there is one organisation ripe for the chop it is the Equality Commission, an umbrella organisation for every conceivable ‘victim’ group in Britain.

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED ‘GRIEVANCES R US’.

The old Commission for Racial Equality performed a valuable function in the days when racism was rife. But even though inequality still exists, we are long past the point where we need a full-time, expensive quango to enforce minority rights.

Adequate laws exist to combat discrimination. But the Equality Act was a bridge too far, a cynical piece of New Labour social engineering designed to scupper any attempt by an incoming Conservative government to tackle the gargantuan budget deficit generated by Gordon Brown’s drunken sailor public spending spree.

The pernicious doctrine of ‘multiculturalism’ concentrates on what divides, not unites, us.
And that’s precisely why the Equality Commission needs to be wound up. It is an uncomfortable, artificial alliance of competing special interest groups with their own individual axes to grind.

It has a vested interest in perpetuating the politics of division, lumping together people who have nothing in common apart from being outside the mainstream of the population.
Paradoxically, the Equality Commission is one of the few bodies where minority groups are over-represented, which makes it even more ridiculous that staff earmarked for redundo are able to claim discrimination. That’s how they got the job in the first place.

All too often this has generated internal conflict as the gays have fallen out with the Muslims and there have been allegations that the Afro-Caribbeans are paid more than the Asians.
It is time the organisation was put out of its misery. Abolition is the only humane solution. Who knew that the Equality Commission had an office in Guildford, at the heart of the Surrey stockbroker belt in the whitest of the Home Counties?

A recent report identified widespread waste, including a telephone advice hotline used by just 73 people in a year — at a cost of £5,000 a pop.
No doubt those members of staff currently facing the sack will be ringing in…

‘Thank you for calling the Equality Hotline. Please hold. All our operators are busy squabbling among themselves.
Hello.
Our services are available in 207 different languages. Please choose from the following menu. For Urdu, press 1. For Jafaican, press 2. For Scribble, press 3…
Hello.
If you are Muslim who wants to complain about gay marriage, press 1. If you are a West Indian who has been racially abused by a Pakistani shopkeeper, press 2. If you are a wheelchair user who wishes to report your disabled access being blocked by an illegal gypsy camp, press 3.
Hello.
If you are a feminist complaining about the oppression of women under Sharia law, press 1. If you are a man who thinks he should be allowed to divorce his wife under Sharia law, press 2. If you wish to make a vexatious complaint of racism against your employer because you think there might be a nice drink in it for you, press 3.
Hello.
If you are facing redundancy and would like to allege discrimination against the commission set up to eliminate discrimination, please hang up as we are unable to help you. As a result of spending cuts, this hotline is no longer in service...’

I listened to an interesting report on the radio last night, wherein people outside the UK were asked if they enjoyed the opening show for the olympics, but importantly, did they understand it all.  Quite a few said they didn’t get some of the images as it appeared centered on things outside their experience.  For example, the segment dealing with the tribute to the NHS. (Natl. Health Serv.)` Not having or wanting a TV, we didn’t watch the opening ceremonies, except for a bit of the fireworks display on the desktop pc.  So I did not get all the comments about how left wing the show was.  One conservative politician referred to it as multi-cultural crap, and then had to say sorry but that he was misunderstood.  I find that crap two, if I can take some liberty with spelling here.  So then here is Littlejohn’s very brief take on the subject.

Of course it was a parade of pinko propaganda. That’s what you get when you hire a pinko producer and a pinko scriptwriter and lavish them with public money.

But it was spectacular pinko propaganda and I’m not going to rain on the parade. It didn’t take itself too seriously and if there was a political message I doubt anyone swallowed it.

There was actually something quite quaint about the worship of the NHS, which owed more to the 1948 Olympics than 2012. That was the year the NHS was established.

Dancing nurses in starched aprons aren’t enough to cover the shortcomings of the modern-day health service. They only served to highlight the distance between fantasy and reality.

Two stories in the wake of the opening ceremony demonstrate how far removed today’s NHS is from the popular post-war ideal.

In one hospital in Hertfordshire, a grandmother died after being denied food and water for a whole week.

In another, a sick woman was shoved aside by workmen so they could drill holes to install a TV above her bed.

These are not isolated incidents. The NHS does perform miracles and provide excellent care, but this is the work of dedicated individuals, not a bloated bureaucratic system that is rooted in 1948, not the 21st century.

THE FACE AND FIGURE NONE OF US HAS REALLY BEEN WAITING FOR

WELL HERE SHE IS AT LAST!

image

I thought we’d never get to see this muslim beauty in all her glory. But here she is and I know all you sport fans and especially NJY and Drew will go mad.
Probably with laughter.

You will recall a few days ago it was reported that a young (16?) girl (that is a girl isn’t IT?) said she’d withdraw from the Olympics if she couldn’t keep covered up, being a strict muslim and all.  So instead of the officials saying ok fatso, good bye, they compromised.
Big deal.  If this hippo competes as planned at least it will hand a million people a hearty laugh.
Lets be fair tho. It isn’t necessarily her fault.  Like so many women from that part of the stone age world, she has been brain washed.
No female can possibly agree to the reasons for wearing this sort of asinine attire, unless she been convinced by the bearded faggots who run things, that they must.  Has to do with male desire etc.

So anyway ..... Fat face here is gonna be in the show.  Can’t wait.  She has a huge advantage however. How’s her opponent supposed to score against that mountain of blubber?  She’s more then likely bounce off her. And if lard belly here sits on her, it’s all over.
She’s so fat she wakes up in sections.  Well she would, wouldn’t she?  Look at how long her name is.

Female Saudi judoka WILL fight in a hijab… agreement reached with Olympic officials to allow her to wear headscarf in competition

Wodjan Shaherkani will compete in judo after an agreement is reached on with International Judo Federation on the kind of headscarf she can wear

The 16-year-old +78kg judoka had been told last week by the IFJ that she would not be allowed to compete in Islamic-compliant dress

Decision comes as debate heats up in Saudi Arabia over whether female athletes should have been included in the country’s Olympic team

Shaherkani and teammate Sarah Attar - the first women to represent the kingdom at any Olympics - were included after pressure from the IOC

By MATT BLAKE and DAMIEN GAYLE

A female Saudi Arabian judoka will be allowed to compete in the Olympics while wearing her hijab, it has emerged.

Wodjan Shaherkani’s participation in the London 2012 Games had been in doubt after the International Judo Federation said she needed to remove the head scarf for her match.

But Saudi Olympic Committee (SOC) spokesman Razan Baker announced yesterday that the IJF had relented its stance after negotiations between officials, clearing the way for Shaherkani to fight on Friday.

She and teammate Sarah Attar, the kingdom’s first ever female Olympic competitors, have both signed agreements agreeing to compete only in kit that ‘sticks to Islamic principles,’ Ms Baker told CNN.

The decision comes as the inclusion of female athletes for the first time ever in the Saudi Olympic team has prompted a heated reaction among hardliners in the oil-rich Middle Eastern state.

Some conservative Islamists have denounced Attar and Shaherkani as shameless ‘whores’, but many other Saudis have praised them as trailblazers for the progress of women’s rights.

The decision to allow Shaherkani, 16, to compete dressed in Islamic-compliant clothing threatens now to intensify that quarrel. She had said she would refuse to compete in the +78-kilogram judo category if she was banned from wearing a hijab.

Saudi newspapers reported that she had telephoned her father to say she would withdraw from the Olympics if she was forced to compete uncovered.

The president of the IJF Marius Vizer, said last week that Shaherkani would have to fight without a hijab to comply with ‘the principle and spirit of judo’.

The IJF’s regulations for the Olympic Games state that no headgear can be worn, and the federation had said there could be a danger to fighters if a hijab is inadvertently used for an otherwise legal strangulation grip.

But Ms Razan said yesterday that, after negotiation between the SOC, the International Olympic Committee and the IFJ, an agreement had now been reached on an acceptable form of headscarf.

‘They agreed on a design and she will compete wearing this design,’ Ms Baker said, adding that she did not know how this design looked.

PLEASE READ THE REST

Because the comments from some of the muzzie men show clearly the insanity that controls their women.

Looks like plenty of material for her opponent to get a hold of........if she can stop laughing long enough.

COWARDLY GOP Cover-Up

GOP Report: Blames 5 for Fast And Furious

Obama, Holder, Napolitano, key White House Insiders NOT ON LIST

After all of these months, is ISSA PLAYING CYA FOR OLD BOYS CLUB????

Congressional Republican investigators have singled out five employees in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to blame for the botched anti-gunrunning operation known as Fast and Furious, in a report on the scandal obtained by Fox News.

The report, the first of three to be issued from the congressional investigation, concludes that the five employees were responsible for an operation “marred by missteps, poor judgments and inherently reckless strategy.” All five have since been reassigned but remain employed in the agency.

The Republican-led House voted late in June to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt, but Justice officials since then essentially have said the ball is still in Republicans’ court, if they intend to follow through with vows to file a civil lawsuit seeking the remaining documents.

The congressional investigative report, to be issued Tuesday, specifically faults Acting Director Kenneth Melson; Deputy Director William Hoover; William Newell, special agent in charge of the Phoenix Field Division; William McMahon, deputy assistant director for field operations, and Mark Chait, assistant director for field operations.

Melson told investigators he felt the Justice Department was making him a scapegoat for the operation’s failure.

From a less chicken-shit news source:

This report chronicles the fundamentally flawed firearms trafficking case from the perspective of the United States Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives,” the preface states. “Part two will look at the devastating failure of supervision and leadership by officials at Justice Department headquarters, principally within the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, and within the Criminal Division. Part three will address the unprecedented obstruction of the investigation by the highest levels of the Justice Department, including the Attorney General himself.”

Providing an overview of Fast and Furious from inception through to the program’s termination, the report points a “culpability” finger at five Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officials, beginning with the role played by Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix Field Division William Newell, and including findings pertaining to the actions of Deputy Assistant Director for Field Operations William McMahon, Assistant Director for Field Operations Mark Chait, Deputy Director William Hoover and Acting Director Kenneth E. Melson.

A point of concern was sent last night by this correspondent to Chairman Issa and various staffers as to why an advance copy was provided to The Los Angeles Times, which filed an exclusive report yesterday. Further investigation indicated other “Authorized Journalist” news outlets had been given the document as well, and it appears there was an embargo on posting the actual report until this morning, meaning those select reporters were able to file their stories at first light ahead of the pack. Those reports are out there already influencing public perception, while “unauthorized journalists” not so favored are playing catch-up just to reach limited niche readerships.

The concern was that first Senator Grassley and then Rep. Issa were initially urged to open the investigation by Gun Rights Examiner and citizen journalist Mike Vanderboegh of the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog, and much further information has been provided to their staffs throughout the course of the investigations. Additionally, pressure from respective readerships did much to help the story gain wider notice, particularly in the early days before “mainstream media” would touch it. That dynamic is still occurring, and to ignore representatives of new media, especially the ones who dragged this story to their doorstep, in favor of the old does not serve to support an informed citizenry, particularly noting how many outlets have either continually ignored the story or wrote it up with a spin designed to derail the investigation and advance an administration and “gun control”-promoting agenda.

Biting the hand that fed them? Gee, thanks ever so much.

So is there any hope that once parts 2 and 3 come out that actual criminal charges will be brought against anyone? Don’t hold your breath. This lion has no claws, even as the deceptions and obfuscations continue.

While it’s probably not realistic to expect movement in the direction of filing charges until all three parts of the report have been released, meaning after the release of the highly-anticipated Office of Inspector General report and, per this part one report, “after the Justice Department fulfills its obligations to cooperate with the Congress and produce documents” (meaning “never”?), pressuring the five individuals identified as primarily responsible is not only a legitimate legal strategy the government uses all the time on ordinary citizens, it’s likely the only way any of them can be induced to fully spill what they know about how high up in the administration responsibility for initiation, implementation and subsequent cover-up really goes.

If that does not ultimately happen, many demanding justice will no doubt conclude the game has been rigged, and that those crying “politics” have had a point.

Lift rug, apply broom. Nothing will ever come of this. NOTHING. Even Part 2 will be dismissed as partisan politics with questionable timing, blah blah. And a tyrant’s nearly successful plan to shred the Constitution will be completely ignored. Impeachment? Hella no, it won’t even get a mention on the campaign trail.

Muslims Who Attacked Police Refused to Recognise French Law (Surprised?)

There’s a site called islam versus Europe that I found a month ago.  Every so often I like to check and see what they have and today is a good example of why I do so.  While we can read about a problem which everyone knows is just a euphemism for muslim problems with their host countries,
generally the media covers things in depth when a city is on fire or a mass demo by sign toting idiots calling for an end to free speech.
So this site finds news and give us the story whole as opposed to selective bits.  I will admit I may be unfair in that opinion due to my personal animosity toward certain groups of livestock passing themselves off as genuine life forms called human beings.

H/T islam -vs- Europe

Muslims Who Attacked Police Refused to Recognise French Law
Posted by Cheradenine Zakalwe

A couple of days ago, I posted France24’s account of the Muslim mob attack on police in Marseilles while they were trying to do an identity check on a burka-wearing woman.

Le Figaro also published a report on it, which has some interesting details the France 24 account left out, notably those that relate to the Muslims declaring that they refused to recognise French law.
It is around midnight. Two police officers are patrolling in the IIIe arrondissement of the city, close to the Es-Suna mosque. They then see a woman dressed in a burka. As the law authorises them to do, they decide to check her identity. When the officers approach the young woman, she starts to yell and tries to strike one of them. According to the statements of the police officers, Louise-Marie, 18 years old, said that she refused to submit to the identity check “because she didn’t recognise French law”.

Immediately, a man of around 40, intervenes to help the young woman. According to the statement, he yells that “this was his place and the police don’t make the law here.” Within a few minutes, around 50 people are encircling the two police officers. Several of them start to strike them and try to knock them down. However one of the police officers manages to make a radio call to colleagues. A police woman arrives to reinforce them and tries in her turn to arrest the veiled young woman. But she reacts violently and bites her forearm.

Finally, Louise-Marie, Michel and two other men are arrested and taken to the police station in the XVe arrondissement. However, the prosecutor’s office decides to release them a few hours later, with a simple summons. The decision shocks the Marseilles police. “We would have wanted them to be held for a longer time at least,” explains Lionel Vidal, local delegate of the Unité SGP Police trade union. “The officers hadn’t even finished writing their reports and they were already out.”

Source: Le Figaro (all in French) so no link

UPDATE: The Telegraph has some more on this. It seems the police are now being investigated over complaints that they used excessive force when making the arrests!

Now dear reader@ bmews, we get that paper every day and weekends too.  So how I missed this would involve an elaborate story of some kind that even I would have a hard time buying.
In short, I dropped the ball on an interesting and ongoing story. So all I can say is:  oops.

The officers involved, however, now face an administrative inquiry after people present during the incident complained they had used “illegal force”.
Police unions were furious. “Nobody can understand how police officers can be attacked…and in the end the people arrested are released before the officers themselves,” said David-Olivier Reverdy, of the local Alliance union.

“The niqab, according to laws that we enforce but don’t make, is forbidden. We are simply applying the law,” he told France Info.
Yannick of the Unité SGP-Police union, said: “This affair underlines the difficulty we have in applying the law. We get the feeling that many would prefer us to shut our eyes to avoid any incidents.

“In short, you can make police checks but don’t make waves, otherwise you’ll carry the can. It all smacks of hypocrisy and doesn’t make police work in the field any easier.”

Marseille’s deputy mayor Nora Présozi, supported the police, saying: “If we want to avoid an explosive situation, the police must imperatively enforce the law.

“Many women wearing the burka are looking for confrontation with the police. By doing so, they are conveying a poor image of Islam.”
But Muslim website aijib.fr claimed the officers were being over zealous as an interior ministry circular advises police not to intervene in or around “places of worship”.

Source: Telegraph

It’s also interesting that the woman’s name is Marie-Louise, suggesting that she may be a convert rather than an alien. A couple of months ago, I posted about a similar incident in Brussels in which a Muslim mob attacked a police station after a burka-wearing woman was stopped for an ID check. In that incident, too, the woman was a European convert to Islam rather than an alien. It seems the converts are actually more aggressive than the dyed-in-the-wool Muslims and go around looking for confrontation.

TERRORISTS AMONG US, AND THEY AIN’T ALL MUZZIES.

Take a good look at the cretins.  Vermin all.  Why does the state have to see them in human terms?  Clearly they aren’t in spite of having the gift of speech which of course is wasted on them.

Arrest and immediate deletion of the filth and little by little some form of sanity might come of it. Safer streets for sure. And maybe cleaner ones.  This group looks like they’d leave a ring around the ocean should they swim in it.

Interesting the way the Brit papers identify people in news stories. ALWAYS as what they are or were. In this case, ‘veteran’ or else they would say a father was attacked, or a mother was yadda, yadda.  Always.  I guess they think that makes the story more personal or something.

As opposed to the way it’s done back home.

Drunken gang of girls in subway stab attack: cops - m.NYPOST.com

NY Daily News: Rowdy group of eight women stab Manhattan subway rider after he makes wisecrack

And I strongly resent the term wolf pack. Wolves are clean and generally clean looking. Wolves are beautiful. Wolves are smarter and are a much higher form of life and do not deserve to be coupled with these brillo headed scum.  Skanks and slags. Bottom feeders.

Wouldn’t it be great if these types (including drug pushers and the white criminal class as well) could be quietly rounded up in the dead of night and never be seen again. If only.

‘Wolf pack’ of drunken girls who ‘stabbed 63-year-old veteran on NY subway after he told them they were being too noisy’

By RACHEL QUIGLEY

A 63-year-old war veteran was attacked and stabbed by a group of young girls on a subway after he rebuked them for being too noisy.

The group of girls - who were thought to be drunk - were aged between 15 and 20 and were traveling on a New York subway early on Sunday morning.

Ralph Carnegary, of Queens, said he was on his way to work as a souvenir vendor on Wall Street when he encountered the gang around 6.15am.

image

He told the New York Daily News he ‘couldn’t hear himself think’ and made a remark to his friend about them being ‘retarded’ if they felt the need to talk so loudly.

When he told the group to calm down and be quiet, that’s when they turned on him, a witness said.

The eight girls started punching Mr Carnegary with their fists. He was trying to shield himself and block their punches when one of them allegedly yelled: ‘Go for him’ and ‘cut him’.

It was then that one of them stabbed the veteran in the shoulder - which required treatment of seven stitches in hospital.

He told the Daily News: ‘I didn’t think they were actually going to knife me. The oldest one didn’t look no more than 18 or 19. I couldn’t believe they did that.’

(well you’ll believe it now.  and never be surprised about these lice. this is their nature. it’s what they do when they aren’t demanding reparations and burning cities in the name of civil rights.  Or as they often pronounce it, “cibil” rights. )

A city bus driver who witnessed their arrest told the New York Post that the women, beers in hand, were yelling: ‘We didn’t do anything!’ as they were being cuffed.

A knife was recovered at the scene. All are charged with gang assault, assault, menacing, rioting, criminal possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct.

Polygamous immigrant families to be paid more benefits

And speaking of blunders.  Here’s one for the books.

Polygamous immigrant families to be paid more benefits after Government blunder

Extra wives will soon be able to claim full single person’s benefits despite being married

Government admits loophole will exist because of their reforms

They do not want to recognise polygamy in any way, so treat extra wives as single, they told MailOnline

By MARTIN ROBINSON

Immigrants with more than one wife because of their religion are to get higher benefits in future after Government attempts to reform the welfare system spectacularly backfired.  There are around 1,000 polygamous homes in Britain, the majority of which are Muslim

image

Under new rules, the extra wives in a polygamous household will for the first time be able to claim a full single person’s allowance, while the original married couple will still get a married person’s allowance, official papers have warned.

Currently people in Britain’s polygamous families are treated differently and paid less benefits.

The extra wives currently receive reduced individual income support because the Government recognises their husband will also get the standard married allowance with his original wife.

But as part of the Coalition’s wide-ranging benefit reforms this nuance has inadvertently been scrapped, opening up a loophole for Britain’s thousand-plus polygamous households.

These details were revealed in a paper published in the House of Commons library.

‘Treating second and subsequent partners in polygamous relationships as separate claimants could mean that polygamous households receive more under universal credit than under the current rules for means-tested benefits and tax credits,’ the document says.

The first Asian woman to receive a peerage, Baroness Flather, has spoken out widely on the issue of polygamous families claiming benefits.
‘Under Islamic Sharia law, polygamy is permissible. So a man can return to Pakistan, take another bride and then, in a repetition of the process, bring her to England where they also have children together — obtaining yet more money from the state,’ she wrote in the Mail last year.

‘Because such Islamic multiple-marriages are not recognised in Britain, the women are regarded by the welfare system as single mothers — and are therefore entitled to the full range of lone-parent payments. We cannot continue like this.

‘Why are they allowed to have more than one wife,’ she added.

‘We should prosecute one or two people for bigamy, that would sort it out.’

Currently in the UK it is illegal to marry more than once.

But if the multiple marriages took place abroad then it is not.

A spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions told MailOnline said that the loophole will exist because extra wives in a polygamous home are treated as single.

‘Polygamy is illegal in this country and it would be wrong for the benefits system to legitimise these arrangements by recognising them in any way,’ they said.

Olympic Incentive

2012 Olympics: 1st Medal For India

Gagan Narang wins Bronze in 10m Air Rifle

Immediately Awarded nearly $180,000

The Haryana government Monday announced a reward of Rs.one crore for shooter Gagan Narang for winning a bronze medal for the country in the 10-metre Air Rifle event at the London Olympics. This is the first medal for India in the 2012 Games.

Even though Narang does not belong to Haryana, he has been given the reward under the category of sportspersons from the state as his family roots are from the northern state.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced the reward for Narang immediately after he won bronze in the shooting event in London on Monday.

Narang, who lives in Hyderabad, had told Hooda in October 2010, after the New Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG), that his family had lived in Haryana’s Panipat town, 180 km from here, for decades before moving down south Hooda said Narang has brought laurels to the state and the country.

The chief minister said players from Haryana winning a gold medal in the Olympics would get Rs.2.5 crore, silver medallists Rs.1.5 crore and those winning bronze Rs.one crore.

A crore is a special number in India, equal to 10,000,000. Ten million. So ten million rupees is $179,800, depending on what time you run the currency converter.

Narang was also rewarded for winning medals at the 2010 Common Wealth Games in Delhi. Narang, who won four gold medals in shooting in Delhi, walked away with a cash bonanza of Rs.37.5 lakh, and a new car worth Rs.8 lakh..

A lakh is another of those special Indian numbers, this one being equal to 100,000; 37.5 lakh Rupees is about $67,500.

The Olympic event was won by Romanian Alin George Moldoveanu, giving his country their first gold medal in these games. Silver went to Niccolo Campriani from Italy. The final scores between the top 3 places spanned one entire point: Moldoveanu 702.1 points, Campriani 701.5 points, Gagan Narang 701.1.

The Men’s Air Rifle competition uses a .177 caliber (4.5mm) air rifle with open sights, no sling, 12.13lb weight, standing position only. The course of fire scores 10 for a bulls eye for the first 60 shots in 105 minutes, and the top 8 qualifiers then fire an additional 10 rounds at an amazingly small target where the 9 ring is barely larger than a single caliber across - a 5.5mm circle for a 4.5mm pellet, and the inner 10 ring is subdivided into 9 super-fine concentric circles, each inner one scoring a tenth more than the previous outer one so that the maximum score possible is 10.9. So a perfect 70 shot score is 709.

The cash award by his former home state somehow does not qualify as a prize or a paycheck, which allows Narang to hold on to his amateur status. Yeah Right. Go figure.

American shooter Matt Emmons did poorly, coming in 35th place. He has been plagued with back problems; holding a 12 pound rifle still as a statue for over an hour plays merry hell with your musculature.

The Colorado Springs resident got off to a slow start and finished prelims 35th.

“My back hurts, man,” Emmons said. “I haven’t been able to figure out, especially in air rifle, what I’m doing wrong in my position that’s causing it to hurt so much.”

For perspective, air rifle isn’t his specialty. He admittedly hasn’t had a good score in three years. He wasn’t expected to medal. But the back problem that has plagued him the last few months has not gone away.

And his best event, the 50-meter rifle 3 position, is next Monday.

After the competition, Emmons walked up to his wife, Katy, who shoots for the Czech Republic. She lightly put her hand on his. She knows what he’s going through.

“Katy was watching me and she said my body was just swaying back and forth,” Emmons said. “I could see that in my hold. Like when I’m looking through my sights, it’ll come down and settle down on the (bullseye) then move to the right or the left and then back and then hold. It’s just not consistent.”

He shot only a 97 out of 100 in his first of six series of a competition won by Romania’s Alin George Moldoveanu, who missed a medal in Beijing four years ago by .08 of an inch.

At least this time Emmons didn’t shoot the wrong target by accident this time, or get another DQ for starting to shoot before his allotted time.

died in hospital after she was denied food and water.

Well why not? What the hell.  There’s already been a young man die of thirst in a hospital.  Why not an older lady die of hunger?
Alright, a bit more involved but hey.  Something is mighty damn wrong when things like this can make the headlines so often, and yet instead of easing things as in getting better, more people are screwing up.  It’s as if they aren’t aware that the press and public will find out and ask, why? How does this happen?  Sadder yet for family as they unknowingly contributed to the blunder, because they listened to and believed what the doctors were telling them.

Scandal of healthy grandmother who died in hospital after going without food for seven days

By ANDREW LEVY

A healthy, active grandmother died in hospital after she was denied food and water for more than a week.

Joan Pertoldi, 76, was put on a nil-by-mouth regime while she waited for a routine hip operation at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Welwyn Garden City.

Her family was told she would be operated on within 48 hours but the procedure was put off three times – twice because the prosthesis due to be inserted into the joint was not properly sterilised.

Other delays occurred because there weren’t enough staff at weekends.

The operation eventually went ahead eight days after she was admitted but, severely weakened, Mrs Pertoldi never recovered and died in hospital a few weeks later.

During her stay, Mrs Pertoldi was dropped by nurses on one occasion because they failed to consult physiotherapists’ notes which explained how much assistance she needed to walk.

After becoming dehydrated, Mrs Pertoldi developed a urinary infection which, the family say, lead to blood poisoning because doctors failed to tackle the problem.

She also developed a blocked bowel and contracted superbug clostridium difficile which caused her organs to fail, leading to her eventual death.

Hertfordshire coroner, Edward Thomas has now ordered the hospital to investigate the blunders and her family are considering legal action, claiming she died due to neglect.

The pensioner’s daughter, Anna Pertoldi, said: ‘The treatment my mother received in hospital was disgraceful. When mum went into hospital she was in good spirits. But because of the cancellations she was left weak and then quickly went downhill.

‘Being left on nil-by-mouth was just one of a number of failings my mother had to suffer. Basic standards of care and nursing weren’t there.’

The Daily Mail as highlighted substandard care in its Dignity for the Elderly campaign.

But Mrs Pertoldi’s case also comes after an inquest into the death of 22-year-old Kane Gorny, who died of dehydration while in hospital for a hip operation.

He phoned police from his bed because he was so thirsty but staff at St George’s Hospital in London, told officers he was confused and sent them away.

Too Bad

North Korea: Massive Floods Follow Extended Drought

Intense rains wash away the remains of yet another poor growing season. They also washed away large parts of the country, as Haiti-like deforestation plus torrential rains leads to mud slides.

Entire world probably expected to bail them out again, feed and clothe them, build them shelter and reforest and reseed their country, so they can go right back to playing tin pot dictator/terrorist supporting tyrant/neighborhood nuclear bad boy.

WRONG.

Widespread flooding in North Korea appeared to worsen on Monday after 24 hours of torrential rain hit the impoverished state which even in times of good harvest is unable to feed itself.

The floods follow a period of drought and are certain to lift food prices which have been rising sharply. According to defectors contacted by Reuters in neighboring South Korea, rice prices have already risen beyond the reach of ordinary households.

“A heavy downpour on the 29th July, coupled with heavy thunderstorms, have worsened the flood situation for DPRK (North Korea),” the United Nations North Korea office reported
...
North Korea’s official KCNA news agency said 400 mm (16 inches) of rain had fallen in the 24 hours to Monday morning.

This comes on top of widespread flooding which North Korea says from July 18 to 25 killed 88 people, left tens of thousands homeless and damaged agricultural areas.

“The flooding will result in more hikes in rice prices until the autumn harvest and which were already seen because of the massive drought,” Kwon Tae-jin, a senior researcher at Korea Rural Economic Institute, told Reuters. “It is simply making things worse,” he said.

The country has become increasingly prone to flooding because of widespread deforestation.

North Korea, which suffered a period of famine in the 1990s, has for years relied of foreign aid to make up for the shortfall in food production.

Even before the latest flooding, a dysfunctional food distribution system, rapid inflation and international sanctions over Pyongyang’s weapons programs have created what is thought to be widespread hunger.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry said its neighbor had not requested any aid from international agencies.

The U.N. office said the government had requested assistance form resident U.N. agencies and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Sunday Dreaming

Hey Mitt: Do It All, And Do It Now!!

Doc Jeff sends an email, urging Romney to widen the race to unprecedented levels. It sounds like a helluva plan to me.

How about this for a Republican slate!

Here is a winning strategy that would set Obama and his Cronies way, way back on their heels.  If Romney would take this advice, it would clearly send a message to the Republican establishment that conservatives aren’t going to do business as usual any more.

It would shake the establishment, and pull together and really energize conservative voters.  Here is a little something else this would do… it would shake the Obama campaign to its core.

Rather than a leisurely march toward a VP nominee or a surprise VP announcement like we got in 2008, vet the possible VP’s NOW and stand ready to announce the running mate in a nationally televised press conference the day after the delegates are in hand.

[ Drew: vetting? My ass. If Biden can get the job, then anybody can. Announce the whole damn shootin match TODAY, and start the attack machine dial to 11 RIGHT NOW. Give ‘em Hell, then give ‘em Hell again. And again! ]

Allen West
Vice President

Having Congressman West in the VP slot makes him a TRIPLE THREAT and a VP who WILL redefine the role.  Triple threat?

1. As the Vice President he would attend to the regular duties and be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
2. Vice President West would also act as a second Secretary of State in difficult diplomatic negotiations.
3. AND… A Vice President West would work in concert with the Secretary of Defense to realign our military and redefine its role.
Triple threat.  Oh but this is just the START of the strategy!

As soon as Romney has introduced West as the running mate… ROMNEY WOULD THEN INTRODUCE HIS CHOICE FOR SECRETARY OF STATE!

John Bolton
Secretary of State

As a former Ambassador to the United Nations there is nobody with a better handle on the worlds issues or more familiar with the players.  John Bolton is tough, straight forward and not likely to appease ANYONE.

Now, you have the nominees on stage, the VP choice and the Secretary of State nominee… lets not stop there.  Next to walk onto the stage…

Sarah Palin
Secretary of Energy

Palins directive… Set us on the path toward energy independent in 10 years.  Anyone more invested in that goal?  Anyone who is more knowledgeable or adept?
Can you feel the ground starting to shake?  Next out of the wings and onto the stage…

General David Petraeus
Secretary of Defense

The nominee for Secretary of Defense.  Enter General David Petraeus.  As great as he was fighting a PC war, imagine what hell be like once he and West have pressed the reset button on our rules of engagement.  In Petraeus we will have a Secretary of Defense whose mission will be to win.  PERIOD.  When our case is just, VICTORY IS NOT A BAD WORD!

Oh… but we’re not done yet…

Pam Bondi
Attorney General

Bondi is a no nonsense fighter who has taken on the current administration over Obamacare and WILL clean out the corruption rampant in that office today.

Okay, where are we?  Who is now standing on the stage?  The nominees so far are:  Allen West, John Bolton, Sarah Palin, General Petreaus and Pam Bondi.
How about a Secretary of the Treasury?  We would need someone who has worked for YEARS in the tax field who understands the overwhelming burden of tax codes and who has, for years fought to restructure those codes.

Michele Bachmann
Secretary of the Treasury

By now, fissures should be opening in the ground, rumbling coming from the sky and the faint odor of ozone should be in the air.  We will need someone new… someone with new ideas to head up the Fed.

Please welcome Ron Paul.
Do ya’ think he’d kick butt?  Do you think the Fed would tremble?  You betcha!

Governor Bobby Jindal
Secretary of the Interior

COME ON DOWN!
And finally… we need someone to head up the Department of Homeland Security.  We must have someone who understands the issues we face.  Someone who has worked in federal law enforcement.  Someone who won’t take any crap from anybody.
Please… a round of applause for…

Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Department of Homeland Security

Never before has a presidential nominee entered the full-on campaign with a fully assembled team.  Can you even imagine the shock-and-awe wave which would be sent through the Obama regime were the Romney to do this?  Think about it.

Instead of just Romney against Obama we would have:
Allen West vs. Joe Biden
John Bolton vs. Hillary Clinton
Sarah Palin vs. Stephen Chu
General Petraeus vs. Leon Panetta
Pam Bondi vs. Eric Holder
Michele Bachmann vs. Tim Geithner
Ron Paul vs. Ben Bernanke
Bobby Jindal vs. Ken Salazar
Sheriff Joe Arpaio vs. Janet Napolitano

**Think about that!**
Let that sink in… all of them campaigning at once.  There would be no way out for Obama as each and every key player on his team would be exposed and held to account from the wordGO.

It’s bold, brash and completely against any business as usual strategy. Imagine!  An entire assembled team of key cabinet positions.  Each one a pit-bull on a T-Bone, hammering their liberal counterparts on every issue, every day, from the word GO until November 6th, 2012.

Now, Doc forwarded this from somebody else ... and we both think that Ron Paul may not be the best choice. And I’d try to get Chris Christie for Treasury. But that’s just a minor quibble.

The point is, all these people could wind up being Romney’s appointments if he gets elected. All of them are actual Conservatives. At least half of them scare the heck out of the far left. All of them would get the base fired up. All of them could spend the next 100 days showing how our inept President appointed each of these inept people, all of whom worked in concert to make a bad situation worse.

And since it pretty much is shit or go blind time for the Republican Party - an All In moment if ever there was - why not go into the fight fighting, instead of doing another limp dick Bob Dole/Juan McAmnesty non-campaign campaign? Get all your ducks in a row for once in a lifetime, and have them quack in harmony. Hell, the Dems have been doing that for ages! And if they all go down to a loss, then form something like a shadow government like in the UK, and sit on the sidelines and second guess and double speak and naysay every single word and deed that the DNC utters ... so that when the thugs come around in another 4 years to snap on the shackles and lead you off to the camps, you’ll at least know that these people Told You So, and you didn’t listen.

no muzzie head scarf for martial art muzzies at olympics. sheesh. them again!

Saudi Arabia only agreed to send a women’s team to London on condition their two athletes respect a strict dress code.

Oh I see.  The Saudis were probably doing the west and the Olympics a grand favor by even agreeing to allow the women to come here.
Very nice of them.
Stone age assholes I swear they all are.  Look at the stipulations the Saudis made. Read this nonsense.
One of the women is American raised.

The fans in my puter are running hi. Shouldn’t cos I just booted only minutes ago. Funny noises never before heard, and freezes. Damn it. I never get freeze ups on this thing. Guess I do now. Maybe it’s the browser?

So take a look at this. Why do they even need anyone from the muslim world at the olympics anyway?

How many of you reading this saw the opening ceremonies and what did you think of them?  I only saw part. Fireworks okay.

How about you?

Saudis angry over Olympic judo hijab ban

(AFP) – 1 day ago

LONDON — Saudi Arabia have complained to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after judo fighter Wojdan Shaherkani was banned from wearing the hijab head scarf during competition.

The 18-year-old heavyweight, a member of a two-woman team who are the first female competitors sent from the conservative kingdom to an Olympics, was ordered by the International Judo Federation to fight with her head uncovered.

But the Saudis have lodged a complaint over the ban.

“At the moment we are discussing with the International Judo Federation and the Saudi Arabia Olympic Committee to find a solution for her to compete,” an IOC spokesman told AFP on Friday.

“I don’t think she has to compete until August 3. The rules of the federation are she cannot wear a scarf for safety reasons.”

IJF president Marius Vizer had told the Saudi fighter the hijab cannot be worn in competition.

“The Saudi Arabian athlete will take part in judo and she will fight according to the principle and spirit of judo, so without a hijab,” said Vizer following Thursday’s draw.

Judo applies strict safety rules and any covering on the head is deemed to present a risk to the fighter’s health.

Saudi Arabia only agreed to send a women’s team to London on condition their two athletes respect a strict dress code.

The country’s most senior sports official Prince Nawaf bin Faisal said that the duo would be allowed to compete so long as they were “wearing suitable clothing that complies with sharia (religious law)”.

Additionally he added other stipulations, including “the athlete’s guardian agrees and attends with her,” and that “there must also be no mixing with men during the Games”.

Men and women share the judo training venue, warm-up area in the competition hall and fight side-by-side on the various mat areas inside the arena.

American-raised 800m runner Sarah Attar is the second woman in the Saudi squad in London.

She has spent little time in the Islamic kingdom and grew up mostly in California, where she took up cross-country running.

PS:
A reason given for the headscarf ban is that it is against martial arts principles, and could be dangerous.

Right. And nobody suggests that looking like you came out of the 7th century doesn’t fit the host country. Oh but why bring that up?
That doesn’t matter. The host country is supposed to bend to the customs of the visitor.
